Outdoor speakers (Black)
Our take on the PSB CS500 by Crutchfield's Marshall Chase
Great sound, right where you want it
The PSB CS500 outdoor speakers provide amazing sound quality even in the most challenging environments. These weather-proof speakers use high-quality drivers. The 1" titanium dome tweeter delivers crisp highs and the 5-1/4" woofer pumps out solid bass. Each CS500 has a bracket that allows horizontal or vertical mounting. Once mounted, each speaker can be swiveled to direct the sound wherever you like.
As a Canadian-based company, PSB knows as much about harsh weather as they do about high fidelity. The sturdy interior of the CS500 cabinet features extensive bracing to put a damper on vibration. All materials are tough enough to withstand temperature and moisture extremes. Other protective measures include UV resistant enclosures, rust-proof speaker terminals and rubber seals and gaskets. These speakers will provide years of music enjoyment whether you're out listening on your urban terrace, on the boat dock or just cooling off in your toddler's pool.
What I heard
PSB brought a pair of CS500s to Crutchfield for a demonstration. I noticed something different right away — the speakers were mounted diagonally. The unique bracket allows for an amazing variety of positions, which is a tremendous help when you're faced with challenging locations. My second big, positive impression came when I listened to a number of tracks played both from a hard drive and an iPod®. The music files ranged from normal CD-quality to high resolution, and the PSBs' realistic tonal quality and the fact that the cabinets had zero resonance really stood out. In fact, the CS500s reminded me of good bookshelf speakers. Not surprising since PSB modeled the CS500 after their Image B5 bookshelf speaker .

Jeff from PSB visited Crutchfield and told us all about the PSB CS500 outdoor speakers.
Why did you buy this?
I own a pair of the CS500 as well as the CS1000. Both sound great with the CS1000 sounding a bit more full with lower bass extension. But since these are going outside and I don't play my music too loud, the CS500 are perfect for my needs. [ JULIAN Feb 22, 2018 ]
They appear to be quality speakers with bookshelf performance. Although hard to find professional reviews of them, the speakers use the same components as bookshelf speakers that have been widely and positively reviewed. On a lesser note, they are white, which my wife will like, and will fit a very specific and limited mounting location. [ Jonathan Feb 19, 2018 ]
great quality company-own other PSB speakers [ Ken Feb 27, 2017 ]
Love the sound of the PSB speakers in my home and couldn't wait to bring it outside [ Jason Jul 14, 2016 ]
1 question already asked
I've had a pair of these on my deck for a year. They are excellent outdoor speakers. I primarily listen to music. The bass is full without being overbearing. I'm very satisfied with all aspects of these speakers. [ CHARLES Jun 20, 2017 ]
Before i purchased both PSB cs1000 & cs500 speakers and was able to demo the Boston Acoustics voyager 60 and def tech 6500. I was surprised the PSBs had very good bass IMO which sounded natural tight & true. The BA bass was solid which I liked and the def Techs bass sounded too boomy. Side note: Build quality of the BA and the PSBs speakers was excellent. Both are heavy duty marine quality built & will last 10 + years. I have 3 pairs of BA voyager Pros which have lasted almost 15 years until I recently decided to upgrade 2 pairs. They show their age but still work fine. The def Techs outdoor speakers build quality does not compare to the PSB & BA. Depending on your budget the 1000s have the best bass but it's a larger speaker. Good Luck.
