Overview: The Garmin Varia RTL510 Radar Tail Light warns you of vehicles approaching from behind, while making you more visible to oncoming motorists. Getting hit from behind is the leading cause (40%) of cycling fatalities in the U.S. (according to a study by the League of American Bicyclists). Varia Rearview Bike Radar helps protect you by giving you an extra set of eyes watching behind you. The Varia RTL510 radar tail light requires the optional Varia RDU radar display unit, the Garmin Edge 1030, or other compatible Garmin device (all sold separately).

Varia Smart Bike Lights: The Varia line of cycling awareness products includes smart tail lights, smart head lights, and dedicated display units. The RTL510 radar tail light can detect vehicles approaching behind your bike, and wirelessly display the relative speed of approach and threat level on the dedicated display or on a compatible Garmin Edge cycling computer. The bright RTL510 tail light also notifies the approaching vehicle of your presence.

RTL510: The RTL510 radar tail light mounts high on the seat post on your bicycle. The bright LED light is visible up to a mile away in daylight, and is visible within a 220-degree range. The RTL510 uses low power radar to detect up to eight vehicles approaching from the rear. It then alerts you through a dedicated radar display unit or a compatible Garmin Edge bike computer (such as the Edge 1030). The radar detects approaching vehicles up to 153 yards (140 meters) away, at speeds between 6 and 99 mph. The radar beam width is 40°, to provide coverage for typical bends in the road. The tail light features a large, bright LED with three modes: solid (20 lumens), night flash (29 lumens), and day flash (65 lumens). The RTL510 uses 2.4GHz ANT+ technology and wirelessly links to the RDU or Edge unit. Dimensions of the RTL510 are: 1.561"W x 3.892"H x 0.908"D. It weighs 2.5 ounces.

Garmin Edge Compatibility: The RTL510 is compatible with the Garmin Edge 1030. The unit will display radar information and alerts from the RTL along the edge of the display. It also provides audible tone alerts when vehicles are detected (if tones are enabled in the settings menu). As with the RDU, the threat level LED and vehicle position LEDs have similar functionality.

Rechargeable Batteries: The Varia RTL510 is powered by a built-in rechargeable Lithium-ion battery. The RTL510's battery life is approximately 6 hours in solid or night flash mode, and up to 15 hours in day flash mode. Using the supplied USB cable, the battery charges in approximately 3 hours via USB plugged into an AC power source, or 5 hours plugged into a computer.

Mounting: The RTL510 is equipped with a "quarter-turn" mount that attaches the light to the seat post.

Water Rating: The RTL510 has an IPX7 water rating, making it suitable for use in rain or snow. It can withstand incidental exposure to water, but is not suitable for immersion.
