Overview: The VG-C77AM Vertical Grip is designed for the Sony α99 II (ILCA-99M2) and α77 II (ILCA-77M2) digital SLR cameras. The grip comes with a battery magazine, which can hold one or two NP-FM500H Lithium-Ion batteries. No batteries are included with the Vertical Grip. When installed, the VG-C77AM adds approximately 2-3/16" to the overall height, and approximately 11.9 ounces to the overall weight of the camera (not including batteries).
Controls: The Vertical Grip is equipped with several controls, conveniently placed for use when the camera is in the vertical (portrait orientation) position. The controls include a shutter button, front control dial, rear control dial, Smart Teleconverter/Focus Magnifier button, Function/Image Rotation button, Multi-selector, Grip Control On/Off switch, Exposure +/- button, AF/MF button, Enlarge button, AE Lock/Slow-Sync/Image Index button, and camera power button.
Installation: The VG-C77AM Vertical Grip fastens to the bottom of the camera. After opening the camera's battery cover, the guide bar slides into the camera's battery compartment, and the attachment screw threads into the camera's tripod socket. The camera's battery cover conveniently tucks into an opening in the vertical grip. The grip has its own tripod receptacle for mounting the camera to a tripod in horizontal orientation. The electrical contacts on the grip and camera interface with each other to provide full functionality for the controls and battery power from the grip to the camera.
Note: The batteries should be charged with the battery charger supplied with the camera prior to inserting in the Vertical Grip.
Battery Life: You can use one or two NP-FM500H batteries in the VG-C77AM Vertical Grip. When two batteries are used, the remaining level of both battery packs is displayed graphically (segmented battery icon) in the LCD monitor, while the remaining power in the battery in use will be shown as a percentage. The battery with the least amount of remaining power will be used first. When exhausted, the unit will automatically switch to the next battery pack.
