Classic Klipsch sound from a slim tower

Want great sound from music and movies without taking up a lot of space on your floor? Then check out the Klipsch Reference Premiere RP-4000F. it might be smallest tower in the company's new Reference Premiere lineup, but it continues the company's long-time pedigree of ultra-efficient, high-performance sound. It features two 4" spun-copper woofers for punchy bass and powerful midrange, and Klipsch's signature 1" horn-loaded tweeter for smooth, detailed highs.

Hybrid horn technology for dynamic performance

Horn technology is one of Klipsch's long-standing hallmarks. Flared openings in the speaker cabinet project sound waves toward your listening area and prevent them from simply spilling out in all directions. This design reduces reflections that can color the sound, and boosts dynamics and efficiency for powerful, "front row" sound that remains crystal-clear at all volume levels.

Klipsch's Tractrix® horn features a circular throat around an advanced titanium diaphragm tweeter that transitions into a square 90º x 90º mouth. This unique shape provides a cleaner, more efficient transition of sound waves into your listening space. The result is a wide listening "sweet spot" with precise placement of instruments and vocals.

A horn that enhances bass, too

Take a look at the back of the RP-4000F and you'll find that instead of the conventional round port tube found on many speakers, Klipsch uses a Tractrix horn-shaped opening for smoother, more efficient airflow in and out of the cabinet. The resulting decrease in air turbulence makes for cleaner, more powerful bass with reduced port noise and low-frequency distortion.

Because this speaker is rear-ported, I recommend pulling it away from your wall to give it room to "breathe."

Bi-amp or bi-wire for even better sound

On the back of the RP-4000F you'll find two sets of speaker input terminals. These let you bi-amp or bi-wire your speaker to get the best sound out of it.

Features

1" Horn-Loaded Tweeter: The Klipsch RP-4000F floorstanding loudspeaker features a 1" Titanium LTS Vented Tweeter with a Hybrid Tractrix Horn for exceptional high frequency response, detail, and dispersion. Klipsch proprietary Tractrix horn-loaded technology ensures high-frequency energy of the RP-4000F floorstanding speakers are aimed directly at the listener and reduces unwanted, artificial reverb caused by indirect sound bouncing off walls - meaning you experience the most clear, detailed, lifelike sound possible.

  • Titanium LTS Vented Tweeter: The titanium tweeter diaphragm's light weight yet rigid composition exceeds the performance of aluminum, polymer or silk tweeters. A vented tweeter design reduces standing waves behind the tweeter diaphragm for a smoother high frequency reproduction. Klipsch award-winning Linear Travel Suspension technology leverages a piston motion of the titanium diaphragm that lowers distortion and delivers real-to-life sound. A ceramic magnet housing provides premium performance,
  • Hybrid Tractrix Horn Technology: This redesigned 90°x90° Hybrid Tractrix Horn utilizes a circular horn throat paired to a square horn mouth to further improve high-frequency response and extension, while enhancing imaging and dynamics. The Hybrid Tractrix Horn's compressed molded silicon face adds high frequency damping to reduce harshness and horn resonance for a smoother frequency response with improved detail - creating a clean and natural sound. Klipsch also utilizes computer modeled phase plugs that act as a mechanical filter to further ensure a smooth, flat frequency response while protecting the tweeter from damage.

Dual 4" Cerametallic Woofers: The RP-4000F floorstanding loudspeaker utilizes two 4" Klipsch Proprietary Cerametallic woofers. Cerametallic consists of extremely light, rigid materials that can hold shape while being able to deliver lower frequencies with maximum efficiency. The Klipsch Cerametallic cone is matted to a dual-layer, copper-wound voice coil for exceptional conductivity. The 4" woofers are housed in a non-resonating, stamped-steel basket that's secured to a large magnet motor for exceptional efficiency and low distortion.

Rear Tractrix Port: The rear Tractrix port of the RP-4000F floorstanding loudspeaker is perfectly matched to the cabinet and woofer, creating ideal airflow with minimal distortion and turbulence even at the lowest frequencies. Klipsch Tractrix ports have custom designed inner flares that help reduce air turbulence entering the port. Less turbulent air helps reduce port noise for cleaner, more powerful bass.

MDF Cabinet: The Klipsch RP-4000F floorstanding speaker features a MDF cabinet with a scratch-resistant, textured wood grain vinyl that seamlessly integrates into almost any room or decor. The enclosure's reinforced MDF construction reduces cabinet vibration for less audible coloration and improved sonic accuracy. The MDF enclosure also features a satin painted baffle with a scratch resistant design for an elegant look without the grille.

Acoustically Transparent Grille: The Klipsch RP-4000F floorstanding loudspeaker comes with a removable, black cloth grille that is magnetic and acoustically transparent. This strong magnetic grille provides protection and a sleek aesthetic look to compliment your home's decor.

Dual Binding Posts: The Klipsch RP-4000F is fitted with two sets of sturdy binding posts allowing to bi-amp or bi-wire the floorstanding loudspeaker. These binding posts ensure a secure connection to many types of cable and connectors. The binding post terminals will accept banana plugs (single only), pin-connectors, spade-lugs and bare wire (up to 10AWG). Two plastic caps will need to be removed to use banana plugs.

  • Bi-Wiring: Bi-wiring can provide noticeable improvements in the overall transparency of your loudspeakers. Run separate speaker wires to the low & high frequency drivers from a single amplifier (the upper set of binding posts are for the high frequency drivers; the lower set of binding posts are for the low frequency drivers).
  • Bi-Amping: Bi-amping allows you to use separate amplifiers for the high & low frequency sections of your loudspeaker for greater dynamic range & lower distortion. We recommend that your separate amplifiers have identical gain to preserve the speaker's voicing balance.
Note: If you decide to bi-wire or bi-amp, you must remove the jumpers between the terminal posts (failure to do this could result in damage to your amplifier and loudspeakers).

Cast Aluminum Stabilizer Feet: The Klipsch floorstanding loudspeaker includes pre-installed, cast-aluminum stabilizer feet with rubber pads for safe placement on hardwood, tile, laminate, and vinyl flooring. The cast aluminum feet are mechanically designed to minimize surface area in contact with the floor, decoupling the speaker for faster, tighter low frequencies and more detail. No carpet spikes are included, and the speaker will not support optional carpet spikes or other type of feet.

Note: Do not remove the stabilizer feet. The Klipsch floorstanding loudspeaker should not be used without the stabilizer feet due to stability and sound performance reasons.

Application & Placement: The Klipsch RP-4000F floorstanding loudspeaker can be used in a dedicated stereo application or in a home theater application as front and/or rear speakers.

  • Front Placement: For optimum performance in a stereo application or as front speakers in a home theater application, Klipsch suggests placing the loudspeakers 6' to 15' apart. They may also be toed-in slightly for better stereo imaging. The listening position should be about 1 to 1.5x the distance separating the speakers.
  • Rear Placement: When used as surround speakers in a home theater setup, the speakers should be placed on the walls directly adjacent to the listening position. Another option would be on the wall behind the listening position.

Reference Premiere Series: The Klipsch Reference Premiere series utilizes a redesigned hybrid 90°x90° Tractrix Horn, a vented LTS titanium tweeter, Cerametallic woofer construction, and Tractrix geometry port technology for sound that will envelope you and blow you away. The Reference Premiere series by Klipsch consists of a variety of floorstanding, bookshelf, center, and surround speakers (all sold separately). Click on the Accessories Tab to find more Reference Premiere series speakers for your home system.

Optional Powered Sub: For bigger & deeper bass response, pair the Klipsch Reference Premiere series loudspeaker with one of Klipsch's powered subwoofers (sold separately - click on Accessories Tab).

Q
Are the RP-500SA Atmos speakers compatible to sit on these RP-4000F speakers? If not, are there no old or new Atmos speakers that will work?
bryan  Jan 04, 2024
1 answer
A
The RP-500SA will be too large to sit on top of the RP-4000F. It will overhanging the edge of the tower. Klipsch's Atmos "topper" speakers are intended to be used with their larger tower speakers such as the 5000, 6000, and 8000 models.

I have an old 1970s Yamaha CR-60 receiver that is rated at 35 watts per channel. Would this receiver work well with these speakers? I am would use them to play records and cds.

A
It would work, but I wouldn't do it. Get more power and newer
devin  Apr 01, 2022
A
i WOULD NOT RECOMMEND IT. Better to buy a new one rated at 45 or above....besides, you will be amazed at how much better the sound will be with the advances made. I was!
devin  Apr 01, 2022
A
Wow, 1970's and still working. These are very efficient speakers so as long as you don't try to push them too loud with 35 watts should be fine. I'm not an engineer but I think you'd get a lot of distortion if you turned up the volume too far.

Q
would a Marantz m-cr612, 2x60 watt receiver be enough power for these speakers?

A
You should not have any problem they are easy to drive. Hope that helps you.
keith  Sep 04, 2021
A
It will power them, but they will be underpowered a little. Should be fine if these are the only speakers being powered.
scot  Sep 03, 2021
A
Short answer is yes, I am powering mine with a Yamaha A-8501 4 channel 60w per channel receiver with a Klipsch powered sub. This was recommended by Crutchfeild for my budget. Upgrade to a 4 channel receiver when your budget allows. Remember the receiver quality is equally important. I'm adding two matching book shelve Klipsch speakers to my set up. Amazing sound quality speakers! No disappointment
bob  Sep 03, 2021
A
Absolutely - these speakers are very efficient, 60 watts is plenty.

Iv'e got an old pioneer receiver that sat in storage for 20+ years. Pulled it out and it works perfectly, cept I need new speakers, as my old speakers didn't fare so well. Just plan on using my set-up for playing cd's and albums. What floor standing speakers do you recommend for a good sound. Thank you?

I have three sets of Klipsch 5000 f. They seem to work with older and new power, as I have both. Klipsch have a specific type of sound so read about them. I love the sound of horn tweeters but I know some do not. I also have Monitor floor standing but get better (maybe just brighter and louder) highs on Klipsch than Monitor. Also, many brands are really expensive for their top speakers (Monitor in point), and don't really deliver more. Good all around speakers, but you will want a good sub (SVS suggested), although the bass in the K's is ok. Hope that helps. (The 4000 are too small without a solid sub.
devin  Jun 04, 2021
A
The Klipsch RP-4000F is a great choice if you want to feel the sound combine these with a Klipsch Wireless Sub for fantastic depth and a Klipsch Center Channel for clarity. The difference is phenomenal. The Klipsch wireless products work seamlessly with a very intuitive setup - you can truly set it up and leave it - you will forget the connection is wireless!
steve  Jun 04, 2021
Q
I have RP-280F fronts and a RP-450C center channel set-up. Would these RP-4000F's be good for rear surround or will I be bettter off with RP-160M's?

A
Rp 160's for rear.
devin  Apr 01, 2022
A
They will do just fine. I use them for front channel speakers but i use a sub for the low bottom end. What you got to ask yourself is do you prefer bookshelf or floorstanders for surround. Hope this helps.

what is the actual width of the cabinet? I assume the listed width of 7.5 includes the feet. Thanks

We do not have the dimensions of the cabinet; we have the overall dimensions which includes the stabilizer feet and they protrude past the cabinet. I recommend contacting Klipsch support using 800-554-7724 to check if they can supply the dimensions of just the cabinet.

Q
What would the best Klipsch speakers to use for a 5.1 set up with a Yamaha RX-A1080? I'd like the rear speakers to be wireless if possible but not a necessity. I have already purchased the R-112SW sub. I now need front, center and rear speakers. Will be using for home theater (movies and sports) and music listening.

I have the RP-4000 F and added the center RP 450 C, which worked well the 5 inch center speakers don't seem to dominate the smaller front ,for the rear R51 , which I believe also come wireless, the system works well as soft or loud as you like in a moderate size room, with a much older 65watt Onyko

The 7.5 inch width includes the feet. The width of the speaker cabinet is 6 inches.

The width of the cabinet is 6"
david  Oct 16, 2020

The true measurements are length 11.25" deep (which includes the little feet) x 6" wide (side to side) and 34" tall. Hope this helps. I have a pair and just did the measurements.
john  Oct 15, 2020

Actual cabinet width is 6 inches. The feet add about 1 1/2" to bottom width.

Just standard 12 to 14 gauge is fine for standard runs .Go heavier gauge for longer runs.
keith  Sep 24, 2020
A
I am using 14ga wire for mine with approx the same run. However, with only a 10ft run a smaller gauge wire should work fine.
michael  Sep 24, 2020

Any will do I wouldn't go smaller than 14 gauge though I used svs cables on mine

I currently have a RP150M bookshelf speakers and Marantz PM6006. Is it a good idea to add this speaker to my current set up? Thanks
cyril  Apr 17, 2020

A
Quality sound from a small footprint. Excellent imaging and efficiency.
edward  Apr 22, 2020
A
Yea since theyre both eight ohm speakers you should be ok. I would run the rp 4000s in the front and the bookshelves in the back. Its not surround sound but should still sound good.
keith  Apr 17, 2020
A
I think floor speakers will be great addition to your set up. With you having the RP150M, I would get the RP500 to match the 5" woofer. The RP400 sounds great and it can handle the amp you put in them but the are very slim. If space is going to be a problem, the 400 are perfect. Hope this helps.
felix  Apr 17, 2020
A
I can only speak for my current setup and room size which I feel has been seriously up graded since I added these speakers. I would recommend them in any configuration.
robert  Apr 17, 2020
A
Definitely! I have similar setup. It's wonderful
chris von  Apr 17, 2020
A
So your RP150M would become your surrounds and these would be main L/R? Personal opinion, I think you'd be fine adding these as your main L/R and would sound great. Power range and Impedance are identical, and sensitivity is very close. These towers have a smaller woofer (4 vs 5.25), but also get lower (37 vs 48 Hz). I decided to match my speaker sizes (4") for all 5 channels; I love my RP-4000F and have been very happy with them. The general rule of thumb would be to match your speaker sizes OR have your mains with the larger woofer, but given the specs I think it'd still work out well.
clayton  Apr 17, 2020
Q
Would these pair well with a Marantz SR6011? The Marantz is 110 watts per channel, while these Klipsch state there RMS is 75 with a 300 watt max?

I have a Denon 3400 hooked up to these and that has paired really well with these. The Denon is rated at 105 watts per channel.
nasir  Apr 01, 2020

Absolutely. Should be just fine. I believe my Yamaha receiver has a similar wattage per channel and it sounds great. Have had the speaker a little over a year and love them.

We dot not ship outside of the US/Canada. If you were to order it, you would be responsible for having it shipped somewhere in the US, and then having it shipped to the Philippines by a third party.

Ask crutchfield about their policy.

Q
Would these speakers overpower a 9x9 ft room? I currently am using the rp600m bookshelf Klipsch speakers, and I love them, but would like more bass than these give me.
robert m  Apr 14, 2019
9 answers
A
you should get a subwoofer.
devin  Oct 16, 2020
A
I think you will be very happy with these. They definitely won't overpower the room.
chris von  Apr 15, 2019
A
These would definitely do well in a 9x9 room. As far as the bass goes, you will certainly get more than the bookshelf speakers. However, I recommend a small (8 inch or less) for "fill" for the 25hz to the 80hz range. All that being said, these are great speakers for the small room that I am using them in.
michael  Apr 15, 2019
A
It's me again. Though these will give you more bass than your bookshelf speakers, they won't deliver "heavy" bass if that's what you're looking for. I just don't want you to spend the money and then be disappointed. I would feel guilty about that.
michael  Apr 15, 2019
A
I would keep your bookshelf speakers and buy a subwoofer instead for the extra bass.
glenn w  Apr 14, 2019
A
I just got these speakers a week ago. The room I use is 14x 18 with 8 foot ceilings and I love them! I would highly recommend them.
thomas  Apr 14, 2019
A
No, They would not over power. I too was using klipsch bookshelf speakers and was missing out on all the base and some mid range. The speakers would be perfect
james  Apr 14, 2019
A
I think they ll b fine.
mahai  Apr 14, 2019
A
They would fit well in a 9x9 room for sound. But the woofers are 5 1/4" diameter. They put out excellent highs. You could turn up the bass and get as much as you'd want. They are very clear sounding. Very nice speakers.
