Pairing: The Alpine CDE-143BT can be paired to up to five Bluetooth enabled mobile devices (only one device can be used at a time)
Hands-Free Communication: The head unit supports Bluetooth hands-free communication for your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone (including iPhone & Android). Note: During a conversation, you can initiate a transfer of audio between your mobile phone and your car's speakers.

Seemed like the best stereo for the money. Alpine is a very known company without all the gimmicks to try and sell you a lesser product. The "mech-less" version was identical in form factor to the CDE-143BT, and had identical depth to the CDE-143 (even though it conceivably could be much shallower in the absence of a CD drive mechanism). Inclusion of the CD drive was only at a $10 price premium over the mech-less version. [ Jason Jan 05, 2016 ]

RMS wattage is based on speaker. You'll need to know what the RMS wattage is for the 3-1/2 speaker and 6x9 speaker. This unit puts out 18 watts per channel. So 1 speaker is wired directly to one channel of the CDE-152 will receive 18 watts. Most all speakers will perform directly connected to the headunit. If your speaker is capable of handling up to 100 watts you might look into an amplifier. Depending on the amp you choose will depict how much RMS wattage is supplied to the speaker. It all starts with how loud and hard you want to drive your system and how much money you have. There's no right answer to this question. [ bighunt83 May 09, 2018 ]

Not sure what the problem could be but I did have an issue and had to get a replacement unit due to a poor connection of the removable faceplate. When you are playing music from your iPhone, you can control all functions with your phone. 1 answer How do I disable auto play when I plug my iPhone into the UBS port? It automatically starts playing music when I first plug my iPhone 6 in to the UBS port. It will automatically start the last open app I had paused, or if there is no paused app open, it goes to the first song in my music library. I have to unlock the phone and pause it again. If this is not annoying enough, it also starts playing my music from my library when I close a paused music app. My understanding is that this is an issue with the head unit (which sends the command to start playing) not the phone itself. 1 answer Hello everyone I've got a question for all yall so I just bought this stereo and hooked it up and everything works great when I listen to the radio but so far when I have tried playin music through Bluetooth or USB only my subs work. I am so stumped to as why my speakers stop workin when I switch it from radio to either of these settings can someone please help me get my speakers workin?!?!? [ Garrett Nov 27, 2015 ]
Have you tried to make the connection from your iPhone via a 3.5mm speaker cable? If so is there still a problem or do all the speakers function normally? I purchased the Alpine but as a present for my son to put in his PU truck. The good news is he lives on the adjacent property and so we tried his radio and his works just fine in all modes. If the plug works then I tend to think there is a problem with the radio itself. It uses something called A2DP (Advanced Audio Distribution Profile) which is fancy jargon for USB/BT sends the audio signal to the radio and then it has a separate audio processor that figures out which part of the audio signal goes to which speaker. I can't find anyway to tune the speakers independently based on the input so it is most likely a problem within the radio. Now I assume your speakers are properly set-up according to the owner's manual so we are left with a problem in the radio itself. Like with everything radio, please run through the installation checklist but it really sounds like a problem with the radio. That is why Alpine has that warranty. A headache to rip it out and reinstall so you might want to call Crutchfield and talk to their tech reps. If they concur I can't praise the customer service at Crutchfield highly enough. I have bought several stereos, TV's and car radios over the years and never disappointed once. [ Willard Nov 29, 2015 ]

3 answers I have this stereo and I'm noticing a problem when listening to podcasts that I put on a USB flash drive. The audio files play fine, but every 10 seconds or so, it skips a second and jumps forward. It's just an annoyance and I don't notice it with music. Is this due to the low bitrate of podcasts or possibly the length of the audio file that's playing(1+ hours)? If I put the same podcast on my ipod and plug the ipod into the stereo, it plays just fine. It only has this problem when playing the mp3 directly from a flash drive. I tried multiple flash drives and all have the same issue. [ John P Jan 09, 2015 ]

No, if you are using factory amp and speakers just connect the speaker outputs of the alpine to your factor speakers themselves. I would bypass to factory Bose amp if possible because the tend to have their own processing built into them. Word of caution about this radio though. Im having issues with it about 8 months after installation. Bluetooth connection problems, etc. Alpine is not what it used to be, Pioneer is more reliable. [ KRIS Nov 27, 2014 ]
To use an external amp you simply have to connect to the pre-amp outputs available on instead of the speaker outs. So no, you don't have to use a converter. [ JAMES Nov 27, 2014 ]
Not sure [ BRADLEY Nov 26, 2014 ]
Tom, You don't need to purchase a power converter to use this Alpine radio with external amps and speakers. There are RCA connections on the back of the radio for your external amplifiers, separate from the regular speaker harness connections. You can download a free copy of the manual directly from Crutchfield or the Alpine web site. Page 32 shows you the connections to external amplifiers and speakers. It is a great radio for the price. It sounds terrific. Feel free to ask any other question that you might have. Thanks, [ ESTEBAN Nov 26, 2014 ]
One line of text only. Longer titles roll off right edge. [ KELLY Feb 13, 2016 ]

Volume is control thru the Knob. [ ANDY Aug 11, 2014 ]
I believe it will work either way. The volume on the phone controls output volume and volume on stereo controls speaker volume, so either way will raise or lower volume. [ JAMES S Aug 10, 2014 ]
You can control it with either phone or head unit [ RAY Aug 10, 2014 ]
The iphone volume is disabled in USB mode but works in Bluetooth. Sound quality they both of these is far better than the old head phone plug [ DONALD Aug 10, 2014 ]
The knob. [ JULIO C Aug 09, 2014 ]
Shouldn't be a problem. The information is visible both night & day. [ ANDY Aug 11, 2014 ]
It is not too bad. I have pretty good eyesight. It is probably smaller than some factory radios but is about 3/8" tall. My daughter has this in her car and I have the 153BT in mine. Both are great. [ DONALD Aug 04, 2014 ]
The display on this unit is small. The clock readout especially. Get the double din unit which has a large display. [ KRIS Aug 04, 2014 ]
Yes. It displays song, artist, album, station or clock. [ JULIO C Jun 24, 2014 ]
Sorry I wrote camera; I meant clock. [ KEITH Jun 24, 2014 ]
Hi Wayne, the unit does have a camera, although I set it and switched to never see it again since my car has a clock. [ KEITH Jun 24, 2014 ]
Yes, it is in the menu display setup under general [ MICHAEL S Jun 24, 2014 ]
Yes, it does. You just have to use the instruction book to set properly. [ JAMES S Jun 24, 2014 ]
Yes [ BRIAN C Jun 24, 2014 ]
Yes, the unit has a clock display and the one I have keeps good time KI4MGM [ WILLIAM Jun 24, 2014 ]
Yes it does. [ DREW Jun 24, 2014 ]
Does the system require a power converter if I wish to use my existing Bose amplifier and speakers? [ Tom Nov 26, 2014 ]
The display is fairly bright and the dimmer is adjustable. I use the amber color which I feel is the most visible of colors available. In a convertible you might want something that has Matt finish on the screen like the double din pioneers. That way the glare is not reflected. [ KRIS May 05, 2014 ]
I found the display to crisp and bright under all lighting conditions in my Mini Cooper with a panoramic sunroof wide open and the windows open. We had a JVC in our Volvo, and my wife had a difficult time with that screen since it wasn't quite as sharp. She didn't have a problem with the Alpine. [ KEITH May 05, 2014 ]
I do not have a convertible, but the display is very clear in my Ford Ranger and sunlight is very bright here in Brunswick, GA. Hope this helps. I do love the stereo sound. [ JAMES S May 05, 2014 ]
I have no problem reading display, Do not have a convertible but is in classic auto and display is no problem seeing at anytime. Great radion [ BRADLEY May 05, 2014 ]
I haven't had any problem viewing the display of the Alpine as installed in a F150. [ GEORGE May 05, 2014 ]
The display is actually quite bright. You shouldn't have any problems. [ JAMES May 05, 2014 ]
No [ NICHOLAS Apr 07, 2014 ]
Sorry. Have not played with it enough to know if it can be done. [ GEORGE Apr 07, 2014 ]
No you will have to open it up [ RAUL Apr 07, 2014 ]
Nope, only has blue LED display. [ KEITH B Apr 07, 2014 ]
No, its blue through and through. I bought the 143bt as a replacement for my 103bt for the steaming capabilities . I miss the 103 which had the blue/red, green and red. [ TREVOR G Apr 07, 2014 ]
no and no. power must be on, but the radio rocks none the less. but don't forget the subs and amp. It can take it. lol [ ROBERT Apr 08, 2014 ]
Is it possible to change the LED color in this head unit? Like without opening it just from stock menus or something like that? [ Bryce Apr 06, 2014 ]
I bought one of these units and sorry to say they are very limited so i took it back Alpine only lights up with power on I hope you are meaning that if the car ignition ios on and the stereo is off as no car stereo displays anything with ignition off completely unless its wired wrong,. I ended up purchasing a Sony MEX-N5000BT and its does everything I want it to and then some and for full functioning bluetooth system its the best deal anywhere [ SHAWN Apr 04, 2014 ]
The unit should not be lit when the key is off. If it were the battery would die. And the clock should be on when the key is on if it were connected correctly. That is the red which is constant power for the memory of you presets and such and the yellow which is switch power. The unit should be off with the key and on with the key. [ DREW Mar 27, 2014 ]
It takes exactly ten seconds for bt audio and eight seconds to transfer a call when you get in the car and turn the key [ TERESA Mar 06, 2014 ]
Within a few seconds. Not long enough for me to notice. [ MARK Mar 06, 2014 ]
It connects immediately on my Iphone 5. I am unsure about any other phone. [ MICHAEL S Mar 06, 2014 ]
Within seconds, if your headunit was the device your phone last connected to and your bluetooth is on before your car. It is very seemless though. Just in case you wanted to know I use a Galaxy S3. [ VISHAL Mar 06, 2014 ]
Really don't know about working with an android phone but works excellent with my at&t nonsmart phone. [ DON Feb 23, 2014 ]
Yes, this stereo should pair up with your selected smartphone with no problem. [ MAURICE Feb 23, 2014 ]
Bluetooth is bluetooth so it should work. [ GEORGE Feb 23, 2014 ]
All I can answer to is that it works with my Google Nexus 4 through Tmobile and my friends HTC through Verizon, the Parrot products used for Alpine generally work for everything. [ TREVOR G Feb 23, 2014 ]
8 answers Hello. How does the OFF command engage? IE, Do you have to click SOURCE multiple times to find a Standby mode or is it a press and hold down to power off OR is there a "one touch" power off button? I want to be able to kill the system with ONE TOUCH and will buy whatever until allows me to do this. Thanks in advance! [ Justin Feb 11, 2014 ]
Hi Justin, You have to hold the SOURCE button down and it will go off. If you don't hold it down, then it will go the other source modes. I am not sure if there is a ONE TOUCH option. [ DANIEL I Feb 14, 2014 ]
Just hold down the "source" button for a couple of seconds and it will power off. [ COOPER Feb 12, 2014 ]
Press and hold the source button to power off head unit [ JORDAN Feb 12, 2014 ]
To turn the receiver off, you simply push a hold the blue square (source/power button). It will turn off after a second or two. [ SEAN Feb 11, 2014 ]
Press and hold source to turn off. Press and release source to turn back on. [ MATTHEW Feb 11, 2014 ]
To power off you just hold down the source button for about half a second. To turn on just hold the source again. [ JULIO C Feb 11, 2014 ]
Off is push and hold (the source button). Excellent system for the money, BTW [ Phillip Feb 11, 2014 ]
Hi Justin, you simply hold the source button for a few seconds to power down the unit. I love the way this stereo sounds. In theory, it should sound like all other aftermarket radios, but I've always loved the 'sense of presence or energy of Alpine receivers. I can't explain it except that I love listening to music more with it. [ KEITH Feb 11, 2014 ]
Thank you. [ Dayna Jan 19, 2014 ]
This will depend largely on your vehicle. For details on installation please contact an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. They will be able to pull up your vehicle and give you the details on what you will need for an installation. [ Jeff Jan 19, 2014 ] Staff
They told me it diddent include install kit with open box items [ TERESA Mar 06, 2014 ]
Thank you! [ Dayna Jan 19, 2014 ]
Yes it did come with the installation kit [ Kelly Jan 15, 2014 ]
Yes, I believe Crutchfield sends a free installation kit with every car stereo purchased. Hope that helps out. [ JARED T Jan 15, 2014 ]
My product was not an open product. I did get installation kit. [ FRANK I Jan 15, 2014 ]
This receiver is not Satellite radio ready. However you could still attach an external tuner to the auxiliary input. The unit is equipped with front-panel minijack (3.5mm) auxiliary input. Preset Tuning: The built-in tuner provides 12 FM and 6 AM preset stations. Stations can be preset manually or automatically. [ Jeff Jan 08, 2014 ] Staff
Not sure what Patric is asking - work with XM radio. I did not think this has XM capability. And I do not understand the preset station question. Are you asking if it can store more than 12 stations? [ GEORGE Jan 08, 2014 ]
I have no idea. Sorry about that. [ ROBERT Jul 17, 2015 ]
I hook it up to my portable xm with no problems works great [ BRADLEY Dec 23, 2013 ]
What if the radio get wet from being in my bike will it work or will it be damaged [ Ernest Aug 21, 2014 ]
It works on iphone4 and galaxy s3. must run the mic to a convenient spot. [ GEORGE Jan 08, 2014 ]
Yes, I purchased this for my daughters car. I ran the microphone cable up the front door column and installed the mic on the visor. [ GEORGE D Dec 12, 2013 ]
For some reason it works with my sg4 but not my daughters iphone 5 [ LUCAN M Dec 12, 2013 ]
I put this in a BMW Z3 and it really noisy on the road, but I have made a siri call parked. [ ROBERT B Dec 12, 2013 ]
Don't know because I have the 5. It works perfect for me. I have nothing but good thing to say about this inexpensive unit. I don't see why not since it is BT connection. Unless the 4s and 5 have different BT [ CHI YIN Dec 12, 2013 ]
I don't think this radio has voice recognition. I bought another Alpine for the mustang and that one had voice recognition. [ MARK A Dec 12, 2013 ]
Yes you can but make sure you windows are up so there can here you better [ RICHARD Dec 12, 2013 ]
i have been able to do it. Siri will ask and you have to speak clearly for it to go through. [ JOEY Dec 11, 2013 ]
Just hold down the phone button on the head unit. [ JAMES Dec 11, 2013 ]
I woldn't know how to do hat anyway.'m a low tech guy in a High tech world [ STEPHEN Dec 04, 2013 ]
I haven't tried to do that. The owners Manuel says that you can. [ KEVIN J Dec 02, 2013 ]
Sorry but I dont usr apple products. [ FRANK I Dec 12, 2013 ]
Yes you can control anything on your phone while plugged in through the USB port minus the volume. This is a great deck, I thought by using the Bluetooth I would loose sound quality but it's so convenient and high quality you won't notice a difference. You have all the controls with Bluetooth and volume, don't even need to take your phone outta your pocket music, plays when you start up [ SHAWN Nov 21, 2013 ]
Yes [ Kelly Nov 20, 2013 ]
Yes! [ JD Nov 20, 2013 ]
Yes you can [ JASON H Nov 20, 2013 ]
Hey Chris, yes you can control the songs through your phone when connected via usb. [ MIKE Nov 20, 2013 ]
I have not experimented with the unit enough to know. [ GEORGE Jan 08, 2014 ]
sorry... i have mine hooked to my vehicle lighting thru the harness so it uses the auto dimmer... i have not played with the manual dimmer feature at all. [ GREGORY Nov 19, 2013 ]
Ok. The only problem I have with accepting this is that my alpine head unit never dims at all. I get full brightness only, or, if I dim the dash lights to near off I get full brightness with a bit of flickering. [ Larry Nov 18, 2013 ]
Larry, I'm sorry but this was a gift to my daugther's boyfriend. And both of them moved to Kentucky a few months ago. I asked him and he doesn't know. I remember installing the Orange wire to the instrument cluster illumination lead, also an Orange wire. If properly connected, I thought that the car's dimming function would take care of that. So if your car internal illumination is set to low the radio display would follow. I would start checking that Orange wiring to be connected to the right place. If not I would contact Alpine via email. They used to be very good at technical answers. Thanks, Esteban [ ESTEBAN Nov 17, 2013 ]
The issue as I see it, is that the "dimmest" setting is still pretty bright. That is one of the common complaints about this, and several other units in a similar price range.. [ JOHN Nov 17, 2013 ]
Not sure, but I can control my iPod from the head unit, or I can switch to iPod control. I've never used my Pandora, but I would assume so, this way you can drive "hands free", which is required in most, if not all, States. [ IVORY COAST Nov 20, 2013 ]
The Pandora app for android should be according to manual. I have not been able to use the Pandora feature on the head unit. It does not connect automatically when the Bluetooth does. I have been playing Pandora just using Bluetooth. [ KRIS Nov 19, 2013 ]
It should be. The controls work with Pandora on my Galaxy S4 [ MATTHEW Nov 15, 2013 ]
