About the Blaupunkt GTHS80

Bob Bihlmayer

Space race

There's a new space race! It's the race to introduce low-profile powered subwoofers that fit in the smaller spaces typical of today's modern vehicles. Blaupunkt's GTHS80 powered sub is a recent entry, and its low-profile, high-power design makes it a serious contender.

Space race

There's a new space race! It's the race to introduce low-profile powered subwoofers that fit in the smaller spaces typical of today's modern vehicles. Blaupunkt's GTHS80 powered sub is a recent entry, and its low-profile, high-power design makes it a serious contender.

100 watts and an 8" sub

With an enclosure only three inches tall, the GTHS80 fits under a car's front seat or the rear seat of a truck, where conventional subwoofers won't fit. The built-in amplifier sends 100 watts RMS to the 8" sub, filling your vehicle with bass. Amplifier controls include bass boost, phase control, and a variable low-pass filter, allowing you to dial in the sound that's right for you.

Works with almost any system

The enclosure has high- and low-level inputs, which allow it to work with any system. It also includes an adjustable input sensitivity control to further fine-tune the input levels.

Product Research

Features

Overview: The Blaupunkt GTHS80 is a compact amplified subwoofer designed to go in spaces most subwoofers won't. It features an 8" up-firing driver, powered by a 100-watt amplifier. The GTHS80 comes with a 12" power/signal harness, a remote bass level module (with 19.75' cable), and the mounting hardware.

Amplifier: The GTHS80's built-in amplifier provides 100 watts RMS and 300 watts Max power. The connections and controls are located on one end of the subwoofer:

  • Connections:
    • Molex Jack: 10-pin input for the included power/signal harness. The 12" harness has connections for power, ground, remote turn-on, and left and right signal input. The manufacturer recommends connecting the amplifier with 8-gauge power and ground wire.
    • Line Input: stereo RCA jacks
    • Remote Level: RJ-25 modular jack for the included remote level control cable
    • Fuse: 30A ATO fuse (installed)
  • Controls:
    • Gain: rotary control for matching the output of the source unit (flat head screwdriver required)
    • LPF (Low-pass Filter): rotary control to adjust the high end of the frequency response (40Hz - 250Hz) (flat head screwdriver required)
    • Phase: 2-way switch (0° / 180°) to compensate for time alignment problems with the other speakers

Protection: The amplifier has protection circuitry that will shut down the amp in case of extreme overheating, short circuit, or input overload. An LED indicator on the side of the unit will glow red if the protection circuit has been activated.

Specifications:

  • Frequency Response: 20 Hz to 250 Hz
  • Power Output: 100 watts RMS, 300 watts Max.
