About the Klipsch RP-440D SB

Kramer Crane

Powerful Klipsch sound for your front soundstage

I love the rich, distinct sound that Klipsch's Reference Premiere speakers are known for. So I was stoked when I saw their latest home theater offering — a wall-mountable sound bar that packs their signature sound into a sleek, space-saving speaker. This passive sound bar takes the place of the front three speakers in a traditional home theater setup. Left, center, and right channels are combined into a single speaker that mounts to your wall or sits on the included table-top stand.

The RP-440D SB gets its power from a home theater receiver (required for operation). This bar is a great option for folks who want a simple, clean-looking system that delivers an immersive sound experience.

Klipsch RP-440D SB 3-channel passive home theater sound bar

Wall-mount the Klipsch RP-440D SB under your TV, or place it on top of your entertainment cabinet using the included glass base (shown with magnetic grille removed).

Classic Klipsch sound

Klipsch famously mounts their tweeters inside of a flared opening, or horn. This helps control the way sound waves are projected into your room, for crisp, focused highs. The 90° x 90° Tractrix® horns used in this sound bar help deliver a wide "sweet spot," along with precise placement of special effects and dialogue. The RP-440D SB teams three of its horn-loaded 1" tweeters with four 3-1/2" woofers for an expansive front soundstage.

Features

3-Channel Passive LCR Soundbar Speaker: The Klipsch Reference Premiere RP-440D SB is a 3-channel passive LCR soundbar speaker. It combines the three front channels (Left/Center/Right) into a single speaker cabinet - featuring three horn-loaded 1" titanium dome Linear Travel Suspension (LTS) tweeters and four 3.5" copper-spun Cerametallic woofers.

  • The center-channel section features a single horn-loaded 1" titanium dome Linear Travel Suspension (LTS) tweeter and two 3.5" copper-spun Cerametallic woofers.
  • The left & right channels each feature a single horn-loaded 1" titanium dome Linear Travel Suspension (LTS) tweeter and one 3.5" copper-spun Cerametallic woofer.

Horn-Loaded Tweeter: The Klipsch Reference Premiere RP-440D SB features proprietary Tractrix Horn technology coupled with a Linear Travel Suspension (LTS) titanium tweeter to produce clean, natural high frequencies.

  • 90° x 90° Tractrix Horn: The Tractrix Horn's geometry helps to improve high-frequency response and extension, while enhancing imaging and dynamics. The 90° x 90° Tractrix Horn also focuses the high frequency sounds towards the listening area, for the cleanest, most natural sound possible.
  • LTS Tweeter: Behind the Tractrix Horn lies a 1" titanium tweeter with a Linear Travel Suspension (LTS) for open, natural, sound. The Linear Travel Suspension (LTS) minimizes distortion for enhanced, detailed performance.

Spun-Copper Cerametallic Woofers: The four 3.5" woofers of the RP-440D SB passive soundbar speaker features Klipsch's distinctive, spun-copper Cerametallic material. Made with an anodized aluminum, this cone is strong and dent resistant. The anodizing process converts its inner and outer surfaces to ceramic. The outcome is a rigid cone with superb damping characteristics that will not flex or resonate at frequencies within the woofer's operating range. The woofers also employ a rubber surround for added durability.

Bass Reflex Enclosure: The horn-loaded tweeters and spun-copper Cerametallic woofers are housed in a bass reflex enclosure with three down-firing ports for greater efficiency and better bass performance. The speaker enclosure is made of ABS and features a matte black painted finish.

Wrap-Around Magnetic Grille: The Klipsch Reference Premiere series RP-440D SB passive soundbar speaker comes with a removable, wrap-around cloth magnetic grille which easily snaps into place over the ABS enclosure.

Spring-Post Terminals: The RP-440D SB is equipped with a set of spring-post terminals for each channel to connect to your AV receiver's Front Left, Front Right, and Center speaker output terminals. These spring-post terminals will accept bare speaker wire from 16AWG to 12AWG. Due to the position of the spring-post terminals they will not accept banana plugs or pin-connectors.

Mounting Options: The RP-440D SB passive soundbar speaker can be mounted horizontally on a wall or table-top. The included wall-bracket and dual four-way keyhole slots allow for easy, tight-to-the-wall mounting (mounting screws not included). The included glass base provides a table-top solution for placing the speaker on a stand, table, or shelf (the base attaches to the speaker using the two included screws).

  • Wall-Mount Dimensions:
    • Speaker: 42.0" (w) x 6.0" (h) x 2.5" (d)
    • Bracket: 38.0625" (w) x 2.0" (h) x 0.5" (d)

Customer Q&A

7 questions already asked

Q
How much height does the table-top mount add to the overall height of the soundbar?
william  Oct 28, 2022
1 answer
A
The slick table-top stand adds 3/4" of an inch to the total height of the Klipsch RP-440D SB, Bill. Looks like to be at the 6.75" total height measurement. I hope this helps!

Q
Would my Onkyo TX-SR393 receiver be able to power this sound bar? If not what receiver would you recommend?
weymouth  Jul 23, 2022
1 answer
A
Your receiver would be plenty of power to use with that Klipsch sound bar.

A
Yes connects with speaker wire. even has routing for wire under mounting bracket for clean install
burns  Jun 25, 2021
A
It is not RCA. They are speaker wire terminals.
zachariah  Jun 14, 2021
A
Yes, you connect with speaker wire. There are binding posts that you can insert speaker wire into.
angela  Jun 14, 2021
A
Yes, it connects with bare speaker wire. No RCA connectors on the back; they are spring-loaded connectors that you push down to open a hole to insert the speaker wire.
charles  Jun 14, 2021
A
yes, connects directly to the speaker wire with quick clips. Right, Left, Center; 2 wires each. easy hook up

Q
Does it connect with speaker wire? Shows RCA on back?
chris  May 30, 2021

A
Yes, the speaker has screw terminals for speaker wire on the back.
bryan  May 31, 2021
A
Yes it does. You'll need to run 3 for l, c, r channels.
nicholas  May 30, 2021
A
Yes it connects with speaker wire. I don't believe RCA is an option. You are probably looking at the terminals which kind of resemble RCA.
jeff  May 30, 2021
A
Chris, I am so sorry. I was addressing the subwoofer I recently bought from Ctrutchfield. Yes, the Klipsch soundbar does connect using speaker wire.
michael  May 30, 2021
A
Hi, Chris, The subwoofer connects with either an RCA connector-the back of your amp or receiver should have an RCA as well-or wirelessly; I have mine connected using the RCA output. No speaker wire are required.
michael  May 30, 2021
Q
Can this speaker be used just as a center speaker if you connect speaker wire to the LCR connectors in back of the speaker? Or is it better to get a designated center speaker?
ray  May 05, 2021
6 answers
A
Probably, but it's pretty wide. There is a dedicated center from the same series that would work better.
william  May 05, 2021
A
Not sure how your amp would handle driving 3 speakers from center channel (if I remember my physics, you'd be running about 2 .66 ohms, and most amps will handle 4 to 8 ohms, so check) but this is a very good solution to space limited areas. If you have the space run a dedicated center, left, right setup. I love mine, but this was only solution to corner tV in odd shaped room.
burns  May 05, 2021
A
I don't think so. You would be firing 3- 4ohm speakers to one channel of the amp/receiver.
bernard  May 05, 2021
A
You could just hook up the center speaker ports but then it would not provide sound out of the other speakers. I would think there are better and less expensive options that would provide better center channel speaker performance. If you are just needing a center speaker I would just buy a dedicated one.
joshua  May 05, 2021
A
The unit plays thru tweeters and midhorns. You may put additional left and right front speakers to complement this unit and you would have a setup that plays great high note sounds.
sterling  May 05, 2021
A
I would get a designated center speaker if you have room for a front left, right and center speaker. I did not have room for separate speakers so I got the all in one.sounds great!!!
jeff  May 05, 2021
Q
Can this be mounted or attached to a TV? If so, will any universal mount work?
nicholas  Apr 23, 2021
4 answers
A
I was able to mount mine over my tv using din rail and attaching to the tv mounting bracket and the wall bracket that came with the speaker. I did have to weld 2 bolts on the wall bracket to attach the din rail. Works great and looks awesome over the tv
jeff  May 05, 2021
A
It comes with a wall mount. I didn't wind up using it. I just mounted it on two screws in studs on the wall and it's been great. Don't think there would be an easy way to attach it to the TV. Also FYI, in case you didn't notice, it's not a powered soundbar so you need a receiver of some sort and audio wiring to the mounting location.
jeff  Apr 24, 2021
A
This is designed to mount to a wall (below the TV) or on a flat surface with the included pedestal. It does not mount directly to a TV.
merrill  Apr 23, 2021
A
I don't believe so. It can be mounted separately to the wall above or below the TV or it can sit below the TV on a very nice included stand.
