Style matters

If the look of your car matters to you, you're probably not going to throw any old thing on the dash. The Garmin Dash Cam 30 with its full-color 1.4" LCD display is the ideal solution. Not only is it a high-quality HD camera, Garmin has also devoted serious effort to making it a stylish piece of technology with intuitive controls.

Eye on the road

The Garmin Dash Cam 30 watches the road through a wide-angle lens, capturing everything ahead of you in full HD. So, if you're looking to record a cross-country road trip for posterity or you need to document your mileage for work or insurance purposes, this cam gives you the sharpest picture possible in low light or bright. The Dash Cam 30 comes with a 4GB microSD, but there's room to upgrade up to 64GB for selectable WVGA, 720p, or 1080p video storage.

The compact solution

The Dash Cam 30 fits in the palm of your hand, so it won't clutter up your field of vision. You simply install the cam on your windshield or dash using the included adhesive mount, and plug it into your car's 12-volt power port — you're done! This fully automated camera starts recording once the engine is turned on and stops when the engine is turned off. You'll always have the peace of mind that the Garmin Dash Cam 30 is loop-recording your drive in case you need to set the record straight. Watch whatever you record on the cam's built-in monitor, or download Garmin's free Dash Cam player software to view and organize your video files on your computer.

Incident Detection

If you're involved in an accident, you'll be thankful for Garmin's Incident Detection feature which uses a built-in G-Sensor to detect hard braking or a collision, and then saves vital video files for a complete record of the event. An integrated microphone allows you to record audio; if you need to take the cam out and get some snapshots of damage, it has photo capability and battery life up to 30 minutes as well.

Warning: The use of this device and/or its mount may be restricted in some states or jurisdictions.

    Product Research

    Features

Overview: The Garmin Dash Cam 30 is a compact, stand-alone HD video recorder which mounts to your windshield with the supplied adhesive mount. It has a 1.4" LCD display, and comes with a 4 GB microSD card. As it records, the time and date are embedded into the video so you'll know exactly when a captured event occurred.

Note: The Dash Cam 30 does not have GPS capability, therefore, no location data of the captured event is recorded.

Recording: The Dash Cam 30 records in a continuous loop onto a microSD card. It records both video as you drive. As long as the Dash Cam is receiving power, it is recording. As the available memory runs out, it starts recording over the oldest recordings. You can manually save a video recording by pressing a dedicated button on the side. You can also take still photos at any time by pressing the Photo button on the side panel.

Resolution: The Dash Cam 30 records high definition video in AVI format (H.264 compression) at 30 frames per second onto the microSD card. You can set the resolution to 1080p or 720p. The higher the resolution, the shorter the available recording time on the memory card.

Display: The unit is equipped with a 1.4" color TFT LCD display. You can use the display to properly aim the camera while recording, or for playing back recordings. The brightness of the screen can be adjusted in the menu.

Lens: The Dash Cam has a wide-angle lens that gives you a full view of the road. You can manually adjust the exposure for brighter or darker lighting conditions.

Rechargeable Battery: The built-in rechargeable battery is charged when connected to vehicle power through the DC power port. Normally, the unit will be plugged into vehicle power as you drive. If you need to remove the Dash Cam from the vehicle, the battery has enough stored power to operate approximately 30 minutes.

Record After Power Loss: You can set the Dash Cam to continue recording after the DC power is lost. You can choose between 5 seconds, 15 seconds, 30 seconds, and 1 minute.

microSD Card: The Dash Cam 30 comes with a 4 GB microSD Class 4 card. The camera is compatible with microSD cards up to 64 GB, Class 4 or higher required.

Automatic Incident Detection: The Dash Cam has a built-in G-sensor, which can detect when a collision or hard braking occurs. When the G-sensor detects an incident, the previous, current, and next recordings are automatically saved. This way, a complete record of the moments before, during, and after the event is preserved.

Installation: The Dash Cam 30 is designed to be mounted on your windshield using the included adhesive mount. The adhesive disk is only 1-5/8" in diameter, however, it is designed for long term installations. The camera should always be mounted in the upright orientation, otherwise the resulting video will be upside down or sideways. If connected to an ignition-switch powered outlet, the Dash Cam will turn on and off automatically as you turn the ignition on and off.

Viewing Videos and Photos: You can view recorded video and still image files on the Dash Cam's LCD screen. You can remove the microSD card and view the files using a card reader on your computer. Videos and still images are stored in separate folders. When viewing the footage on your computer, you'll have a record of the date and time.
