Overview

Our take on the Klipsch Reference RSB-11

Finding a home theater solution for a large room or open-floor plan can be tricky. I think in some ways a heavy-duty sound bar like the Klipsch Reference RSB-11 might be the way to go. You don't have to worry about running unsightly wires or figuring out the best way to arrange speakers.

Klipsch Reference RSB-11

The Klipsch Reference RSB-11 bar-and-sub combo delivers home theater sound in sound-challenged spaces.

Klipsch helps cut through "dead air"

Finding a home theater solution for a large room or open-floor plan can be tricky. I think in some ways a heavy-duty sound bar like the Klipsch Reference RSB-11 might be the way to go. You don't have to worry about running unsightly wires or figuring out the best way to arrange speakers.

Thanks to the large 8" subwoofer, you can expect bass potent enough to fill the space. And since it communicates wirelessly with the bar, you some flexibility on where you place (or hide) it. And Klipsch packed the bar with drivers that are designed to excel in rooms with the even the most challenging acoustics.

Every seat is the front row

That driver array ensures every seat in the house is the best seat for sound quality. Two 3/4" tweeters offer detail and nuance. Each is mated to a horn — a staple of Klipsch speakers — which disperses high frequencies across a wide listening area.

There are also four 3" midrange drivers. They give you Klipsch's signature "in-your-face" soundstage that works great for high-action films and shows.

I loved the clear dialogue

We recently set this bar up in our home labs and watched the latest James Bond movie. I was impressed at how clear the dialogue sounded — particularly the heavy accents that are sometimes hard to understand on lesser systems. Speech was easy to follow, even over the louder, more thunderous effects.

    Features

Soundbar w/ Tractrix Horn Technology: The Klipsch RSB-11's soundbar speaker is equipped with two 0.75" horn-loaded textile dome tweeters with 90° x 90° Tractrix horns that deliver crisp highs, plus four 2.5" fiber composite woofers for dynamic midrange and enhanced vocals. By incorporating highly efficient horn-loaded technology into the soundbar, all sounds are more detailed, dialog clarity is significantly improved, and overall output is maximized to cover even the largest listening areas. The tweeters and woofers are bi-amplified and utilize a DSP-controlled crossover network.

Wireless Powered Subwoofer: The Klipsch RSB-11 includes a wireless powered subwoofer with an 8" side-firing fiber composite woofer in a bass reflex enclosure with a rear-firing port. The powered sub delivers deep, accurate bass to your movie and music soundtracks. The sophisticated 2.4 GHz technology automatically connects the soundbar and subwoofer together wirelessly; up to 50'. The wireless powered sub's cabinet features a black wood-grain vinyl finish and rubber feet. The wireless powered subwoofer has independent volume control from the included IR remote control.

Dolby Audio Decoder: The Klipsch RSB-11 incorporates Dolby Audio for rich, clear, powerful sound. Its built-in Dolby Audio decoder allows the Klipsch soundbar system to automatically reproduce detailed, high-output sound in almost any size room no matter what format of sound (including Dolby Digital 5.1 and 2ch PCM) is coming from the TV's output.

Sound Modes: The Klipsch RSB-11 soundbar & subwoofer system offers 3 sound modes to choose from - Virtual Surround, Voice Enhance, and Night. The Virtual Surround mode is designed to simulate the effect of a surround sound system. The Voice Enhance mode increases dialogue volume for enhanced vocal clarity without increasing ambient sounds. Night mode adjusts the system's dynamic range for quieter listening environments.

HDMI 2.0: The Klipsch RSB-11's soundbar is outfitted with three HDMI 2.0 inputs and one HDMI 2.0 ARC output. The system's HDMI connectivity supports 4K pass-through and is HDCP 2.2 compliant.

    • 4K Video Pass-Through: The RSB-11 lets you maintain 4K quality from source to screen by allowing 4K video to "pass-through" and be displayed on a 4K TV or projector, without compromising image quality. Giving you the pure 4K experience makes this system the perfect partner for 4K-capable TVs and Ultra-HD Blu-ray players. 480i, 480p, 720p, 1080i, and 1080p video signal are also supported (there is no upscaling).
    • HDCP 2.2: HDCP 2.2 is supported by the system's HDMI inputs and output. HDCP 2.2 is short for "High bandwidth Digital Content Protection" and is used for 4K video copyright protection for compatibility with Ultra HD Blu-ray players, 4K Satellite/Cable providers, and 4k online video services.
    • ARC (Audio Return Channel): This feature of the system's HDMI output allows audio to be sent from your ARC compatible TV to the soundbar system through the same HDMI cable already being used to send audio and video to your TV. This eliminates the need for extra cables connected to your television.
Note: The soundbar's HDMI input does not support HDR (High Dynamic Range) video

Digital & Analog Inputs: In addition to HDMI connectivity, the Klipsch RSB-11 offers an optical (toslink) digital input and a stereo minijack (3.5mm) analog input. Using the digital optical connection, the soundbar accepts sound from both the TV and any device (such as a DVD/Blu-ray player or Cable/Satellite receiver) hooked up to the TV. The system supports Dolby Digital & 2ch PCM audio through its optical digital input.

Note: The digital optical output terminals of many newer flat-panel TVs only send an audio signal in 5.1ch when receiving Dolby Digital surround sound from the TV's built-in tuner, network connection, HDMI inputs, or connected USB device; and will output only 2ch stereo from sources connected to the TV via stereo RCA or minijack.

Bluetooth Audio Streaming: The Klipsch RSB-11 features built-in Bluetooth for wireless audio streaming of stored music and music apps on your Bluetooth-enabled Apple iPod/iPhone/iPad, Android smartphone/tablet, Windows PC/Phone, Mac computer/laptop, and more to the Klipsch soundbar & subwoofer system. A simple single button press will pair your device with the RSB-11 system. Once paired, the RSB-11 speaker system will automatically re-connect to your device when within range (up to 33').

    • aptX Codec: In addition to supporting Bluetooth's standard SBC codec, the RSB-11 supports aptX for CD-quality streaming from Android OS 4.0+ devices
    • Playback Control: From the system's remote control you can operate basic playback functions like Play/Pause & Previous/Next Track. You'll continue to use your Bluetooth-enabled device to control advanced music playback functions and to view song/artist information.
Note: Due to the differences in Bluetooth technology, some Bluetooth enabled devices may be incompatible, function improperly, or may not support all features when used with the Klipsch RSB-11.

Remote Control: The RSB-11 comes with a  full-size IR remote control for wireless operation of the soundbar & subwoofer system. The remote also operates basic playback functions like Play/Pause & Previous/Next Track for Bluetooth-connected devices. You can also program the Klipsch RSB-11's Volume Up/Down and Mute functions into your existing TV remote for further ease-of-operation.

HDMI-CEC: HDMI-CEC allows you to easily manage and operate the RSB-11 system along with an HDMI-CEC compatible TV, Blu-ray player, satellite receiver, and/or cable box with a single remote; when all components are connected via HDMI.

Mounting Options: The soundbar speaker can simply be positioned on a shelf or stand, below or above your TV. It can also be wall-mounted using its dual keyhole slots and included template (mounting screws not included). Because the powered sub is wireless it can be positioned almost anywhere up to 50' from the soundbar speaker. It is recommended that the sub be positioned on the same wall as the soundbar.

Power Requirements: Both, the active soundbar & wireless powered sub will require AC power.

    Why did you buy this?

I was looking for a unit under 500.00 this was on sale scratch and dent. Also that would have three features and this unit has that: 1 auto volume 2 speech enhancement 3 overall performance for my 60" tv. I had looked at this unit and passed on it, then I spoke with consultant Brooke and she picked this unit as top pick for my requests. After reviewing a second time she was right as rain. I've heard lower price point Klipsch sound bars that sound incredible - this one is a notch up and I expect it to sound at least as good, if not better than the lower model. Also, I'm buying this on sale for $125 sale price. We aren't interested in the older surround sound systems anymore. [ Michael  Feb 20, 2018 ]

You sure can! The turntable needs to have a phono preamp built into it. If it doesn't, then you can get a phono preamp so they can work together. Here are our phono preamps should you need one: https://www.crutchfield.com/g_50500/Phono-Preamps.html?tp=204 My Bio: http://www.crutchfield.com/Support/Bio.aspx?bio=101 [ Paul  Apr 02, 2018 ]  Staff
    I honestly don't know. Sorry. [ Christopher  Mar 26, 2018 ]
The Klipsch RSB-11 wireless powered subwoofer has independent volume control (from the included remote control) that lets you adjust the bass output independently--however I'm afraid there is no independent treble adjustment. For more details or to discuss further, feel free to contact an Advisor directly by phone (888.955.6000) or online chat. [ Larry  Mar 05, 2018 ]  Staff
HI, this is a pass thru support. All the decoding is done at the device not the soundbar. The only decoding it does is for Dolby digital for sound from your smart tv. Looking at the manual, it does have codes for AT&T remotes. [ Jerry  Feb 20, 2018 ]
    I don't know. I don't have either one. [ ERNEST  Feb 18, 2018 ]
Thanks for the reply Ernest, even though it wasn't really what I wanted to hear. To answer your question, no I'm not really a gamer, just trying to make a great all around, somewhat future proof setup. I currently have a Sony XBR65X900e and a Klipsch RSB-11 soundbar. The TV has 4 HDMI inputs, but only 2 of the 4 support the latest HDR/18gbps standard, and 1 of those is also the ARC HDMI i have running to the soundbar. I recently purchased an Oppo UDP-203 4k BluRay that will go to the other HDR/18gbps compatible HDMI input because it supports both the Dolby Vision and HDR10 HDR formats. Here's my issue, I also pre-ordered an Xbox One X Scorpio edition that will arrive in November and there aren't any HDR compatible inputs left on my TV. I was hoping my solution would be to just run everything into the HDMI inputs on the soundbar and just let the ARC connection from the soundbar to the TV do the work. Unfortunately though, without HDR pass through via the HDMI inputs on the soundbar it won't work. [ John  Aug 30, 2017 ]
It does not have HDR pass through. There are only a few HDR monitors. This sound bar is made for TVs. You must be a gamer. [ ERNEST  Aug 30, 2017 ]
