About the JVC KD-AV41BT

Dave Delamere

Little audio and video powerhouse

Just because your car may not have the room for a big screen receiver doesn't mean you have to do without features that the big boys have. JVC's KD-AV41BT receiver combines multimedia options, like Bluetooth® and iPhone® control, in a smaller 2" tall chassis that'll fit almost any vehicle. You can play DVDs and CDs, or pop in a USB drive full of music and videos.

Maximum multimedia capability in a single-DIN car stereo!

Get your smartphone involved

Bluetooth enables wireless streaming for music, podcasts, and audiobooks, along with hands-free phone calls. You can install the included wired microphone close to you, so callers can hear you loud and clear. You can also use the front USB port and a compatible cable to charge and control your iPhone or iPod.

More good stuff

If you've got a portable music player, you can plug into the front auxiliary input for audio entertainment on a long road trip. Just connect the video output to additional screens, and your backseat crew can be entertained with DVD playback for hours. You can control all your media using convenient front panel controls and the brilliant 3" display. The included wireless remote comes in handy if the KD-AV41BT is installed in a camper or RV. You'll also find an input to hook up a backup camera, so you can use the receiver's display to see what's behind you.

You can tweak your sound with the built-in 2-band equalizer. If you need a bit more oomph, you can connect a powered subwoofer to the receiver's set of preamp outputs.

Want to keep your steering wheel controls?

In most cars, you'll need an adapter to retain those controls with this car stereo. Connect a few wires, then program the adapter for your particular car and radio, and you'll retain the convenience of your steering wheel controls. You'll see the adapters that work with your vehicle when you add this receiver to your cart.

Bluetooth note: Use of this receiver's Bluetooth features will depend upon your phone's Bluetooth capabilities. Learn more in our article explaining Bluetooth profiles.

    Display & Remote Features

3" LCD: The JVC KD-AV41BT features a 3.0" full-color widescreen (16:9) LCD with a resolution of 320 (H) x 240 (V) with 76,800 total pixels. The 3.0" LCD screen supports video playback, photo display, and song/artist information. You can adjust the dimmer level of the LCD to Low or High. During video & photo playback, you can adjust the LCD screen's brightness, contrast, and color.

Note: To prevent the display of video while the vehicle is in motion, the green wire (attached to rear-chassis) must be connected to the vehicle's parking brake detection circuit. You cannot view video unless your vehicle's parking brake is engaged. If you attempt to view video without the parking brake engaged, the unit's LCD screen will simply display "PARKING is not enabled. No video while driving". While your vehicle is in motion (parking brake off), you can still view all of the head unit's menu settings, source information, metadata, and phone info.

Fold-Down Detachable Face: The JVC KD-AV41BT's front-panel folds down to insert and eject your disc. The face-plate is detachable to deter theft. A hard-plastic face case is included to store the face-plate when it is detached. An optional soft face case (142DFC1X, sold separately) can also be purchased for this unit.

Remote Control: The JVC KD-AV41BT comes with an IR remote control and offers compatibility with factory steering wheel controls (adapter sold separately).

    • IR Remote: The KD-AV41BT receiver comes with an IR remote control for wireless operation of the DVD receiver. The remote does not offer Bluetooth phone control.
    • Steering Wheel Remote Compatibility: The head unit features an OEM steering wheel remote control input wire (blue/yellow) within the included wiring harness that lets you keep your vehicle's factory radio steering wheel remote controls when used with an optional steering wheel audio control adapter (sold separately).
    Built-in Bluetooth

Bluetooth Technology: The JVC KD-AV41BT is equipped with built-in Bluetooth (version 3.0), allowing you to make and receive phone calls wirelessly through the receiver; as well as stream music wirelessly from your smartphone to the head unit. In order to use Bluetooth wireless technology, your phone must also be Bluetooth compatible and be able to interpret certain profiles. This unit is compatible with the following Bluetooth Profiles:

    • Hands-Free Communication: HFP 1.6 (Hands Free Profile), PBAB 1.1 (Phone Book Access Profile).
    • Audio Streaming: A2DP 1.3 (Advanced Audio Distribution Profile), AVRCP 1.5 (Audio/Video Remote Control Profile).
Note: Due to the differences in Bluetooth technology, some Bluetooth enabled devices may be incompatible, function improperly, or may not support all features when used with the JVC KD-AV41BT. Check here for the latest Bluetooth compatibility information.

Secure Simple Pairing (SSP): With Secure Simple Pairing (SSP), you can easily pair a Bluetooth enabled phone to the JVC KD-AV41BT without having to enter pin codes or go through complicated settings. When an already paired Bluetooth device is in close proximity to the receiver, the auto connection function automatically pairs the two units. You can pair up to five Bluetooth-enabled devices to the JVC head unit, but only one device can be connected and used at a time.

Bluetooth Hands-Free Communication (w/ External Mic): The head unit supports Bluetooth hands-free communication for your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone. And thanks to the latest Hands-Free Profile (HFP 1.6) with wideband speech capability, the KD-AV41BT provides more natural sound quality and details during wireless calls. The controls of the KD-AV41BT can be used to dial a number, answer an in-coming call, or end a call. The unit also includes an external microphone (with mounting bracket), so you can carry on your side of the conversation while listening to the caller through your vehicles speakers. During a conversation, you can switch between the Private Mode (talking directly on your cell phone) and the Hands Free Mode.

    • Answering A Call: When a call comes in, a ring-tone will be heard through your vehicle's speaker and the caller's name or phone number will be displayed. You can answer the call from the head unit's front-panel controls.
    • Dialing A Number: Using the KD-AV41BT, you can dial a phone number in one of the following ways:
      • Phone Book: You can dial by using the downloaded phone book. You can download phone book data from your cell phone to the KD-AV41BT.You can search through your contacts alphabetically or numerically. Up to 1,000 numbers can be stored for each registered cell phone.
      • Call History: The Call History is a list of calls that have originated from and were received by this unit that you can dial. You can select Outgoing, Incoming, or Missed calls (up to 10 each).
      • Voice Dialing: If your mobile phone supports voice recognition, then you can dial out by voice command. Simply speak into the included microphone once you have activated the voice dialing function from the head unit's front-panel.

You are able to stream your stored music library on your Bluetooth-enabled smartphone, as well as music apps downloaded on your smartphone to the KD-AV41BT for playback. In addition to basic playback functions (Play/Pause, FF/RW, Skip, Random/Repeat), the KD-AV41BT lets you browse your stored music by Playlist, Artist, Album, Song, etc. (AVRCP 1.4 phones only; which includes Android 4.0+ and iPhone 5.0+). The head unit will also display your stored music and music app's song information; such as Artist name and Song/Album title (not compatible with all apps).

    iPod/iPhone Integration

iPhone Direct Connection: The JVC KD-AV41BT's front-panel USB port can be used to connect your Lightning-connector or 30-pin dock connector iPod/iPhone to the head unit. The KD-AV41BT supports audio playback, music navigation, information display, and charging of your compatible Apple device.

    • Lightning Connector: If you have a newer iPod/iPhone with the Lightning-connector, you can use JVC's Lightning connector-to-USB cable (105KSU62, sold separately) or the Lightning-to-USB cable that came with your Apple device to connect your iPod/iPhone to the KD-AV41BT.
    • 30-Pin Dock Connector: If you have an older iPod/iPhone with a 30-pin dock connector, you can will need to use the dock connector-to-USB cable that comes with your Apple device or a "Made For iPod/iPhone" 30-pin-to-USB cable (sold separately) to connect your iPod/iPhone to the KD-AV41BT.

iPhone Audio Playback: The USB connection allows your iPod/iPhone's stored music and music apps to be loaded instantly to the head unit and sound quality to be maximized through the head unit's 16-bit D/A converter, allowing for a Signal to Noise ratio up to 90dB. The JVC head unit supports audio playback of stored music, music apps, and podcasts on your iPod or iPhone. You can choose between two operating modes.

Newer iPod/iPhones with iOS 6.0+ allow you to continue to access your Apple device's touchscreen in this mode in order to access other applications; older iPod/iPhone devices will be locked during connection.
    • iPod/iPhone Mode: The iPod/iPhone Mode lets you control your older iPod/iPhone (iOS 5.1.1 and earlier) from its clickwheel or touchscreen. You'll still have access to basic playback controls (like Play/Pause & Previous/Next Track) from the head unit, but advanced navigation functions will be locked.

Song/Artist Info + Album Art: During Head Unit Mode, the KD-AV41BT will display your iPod/iPhone's music file information such as Track number, Elapsed playing time, Artist name, Song title, Album title, and even Album art.  No song/artist information is displayed in iPod/iPhone mode; the unit will simply display "App & iPod Mode".

USB Charging: The head unit's USB connection provides 5V/1A of current to power and charge your connected iPod/iPhone when your vehicle's ignition switch is set to the 'ACC' or 'On' position (if your iPod/iPhone has no initial battery charge, then the unit will not recognize it).

    Audio & Tuner Section

MOSFET Amplifier: The JVC KD-AV41BT is equipped with a MOSFET amplifier. Compared to conventional power supplies, the MOSFET amplification circuit is smaller and more efficient, and it delivers increased power with less distortion and absolutely zero on/off switching noise. More power means louder and cleaner music at higher volumes because you're not pushing the limits of the amplification circuit. The power output specs for the KD-AV41BT are as follows:

    • Full Bandwidth Power: 22 watts RMS x 4 channels (at 4 ohms, 20-20kHz, 1% THD)
    • Maximum Output Power: 50 watts x 4 channels (200 total watts)

2.5V/2CH Preamp Output: The KD-AV41BT is fitted with 2.5V/2CH pre-outs for the rear channels only. These rear-channel pre-outs are fade capable.

8 EQ Presets: You can choose between 8 EQ Presets to tailor the head unit's sound for all types of music. Choose from User, Flat, Pop, Rock, Classic, Jazz, Optimal, & Techno. The User mode allows you manually adjust the receiver's Bass & Treble.

Bass Boost: There is also a Bass Boost feature to emphasize the head unit's Bass sound even more, even at lower volume.

Key Beep: The in-dash head unit provides an audible beep to confirm button operation. This function can be turned On or Off.

RDS AM/FM Tuner: The JVC KD-AV41BT features a built-in AM/FM tuner with manual, seek, and preset tuning. You can store a total of 18 FM stations presets and 6 AM station presets. The radio allows you to set your AM/FM stations manually or automatically. The Local Seek feature tunes in only the AM/FM stations with a strong signal strength. The Radio Data System (RDS) feature displays radio broadcast information such as artist, title, and album when listening to compatible AM/FM stations.

    AV Connectivity

Front-Panel Aux Input: A front-panel stereo minijack is provided to allow the connection of almost any portable audio source with a 3.5mm headphone output. Simply connect your portable digital music player to the unit's front-panel auxiliary input, and you can listen to the audio from the portable player through the speakers in your mobile audio system.

Backup Camera Input: The rear-panel backup camera input consists of a composite video connector which allows you to connect an optional rear-view camera (sold separately). The unit features a reverse gear signal wire (purple/white), that when connected to your vehicle's reverse light circuit, will automatically switch the KD-AV41BT's display to the rear-view camera input. Automatic video switching takes approximately 3.0 seconds.

Video Output: A single RCA composite video-output jack allows you to an add external monitor such as rear headrest monitor (sold separately). You will want to contact an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat to discuss compatibility with your factory system. They will be able to pull up your vehicle and see if this will integrate. If it does not, then they will also be able to discuss other options with you.

Not sure as to the steering wheel interface. But I hook my iPhone 7 via Bluetooth and listen to my music and answer the phone via Bluetooth through the head unit. And know I don't have to use the front port. Hope this helps
