Features

"Natural Sound" Concept: Yamaha, with a long history of over 125 years as a musical instrument maker, also has a high reputation for HiFi components. Yamaha's A-S301 integrated amplifier takes advantage of this rich experience and high technological expertise. Based on the concept of "Natural Sound", for reproducing all music as it really sounds, and built with scrupulous care from circuit design to basic sound production, the A-S301 reproduces high sound quality and musically rich sound.

Proprietary Yamaha Technologies: The Yamaha AS-301 integrated amplifier employs proprietary Yamaha technologies for optimum performance and sound reproductions.

  • ToP-ART Design: When processing and transmission of the audio signal is simple and direct there is less chance of it being affected by noise and distortion. Yamaha's amplifier design technology called "ToP-ART" features an I/O (input to output) Direct Symmetrical Design, with left and right channels organized in a straight, symmetrical layout for highest signal purity.
  • ART (Anti-Resonance and Tough): In addition, the ART (Anti-Resonance and Tough) Base bottom chassis and a solid center bar provide high-rigidity support and vibration damping.

High Current Amplifier: The Yamaha A-S301 features a dynamic, high current stereo amplifier with low impedance drive capability. The amp is rated at 60 watts x 2-channels, measured from 20-20 kHz into 8 with 0.019% THD (70watts x 2-channels, measured from 20-20 kHz into 6 with 0.038% THD).

High Quality Parts: Custom-made power transformer, custom-made block capacitors, two direct signal path speaker relays, one-point grounding system, aluminum-extruded heat sinks and other top-quality parts effortlessly handle demanding audio signal conditions. The quality of each individual part, as well as how they work together, basically determines the sound quality of any component. Yamaha uses only very high quality parts, carefully selected and tested.

Sophisticated Front-Panel Design: With a beautifully simple and unique design inherited directly from Yamaha's HiFi audio components, this amplifier also boast an easy-to-operate button layout. The aluminum front-panel has a richly textured silver hairline finish. The control knobs are also of the same luxurious construction as used on our top-end models. The rotary encoder makes it quick and easy to select input sources. The luxury hairline finish material offers a nice tactile feeling. LEDs clearly show which source is selected, so you can easily switch sources even in a dark room

Controls

Pure Direct Mode: The Pure Direct mode causes the music signals to travel the shortest possible circuit route, bypassing the buffer amp and the tone, loudness and balance controls to virtually eliminate any signal degradation for the purest sound quality.

Variable Loudness Control: The A-S301 also features a new analog loudness control on the front-panel that uses electronic volume for higher sound quality, which lets you adjust the loudness effect as desired. Separate from the overall volume, this controls the balance of the low- and high- frequency sounds, providing full tonal range at any volume level; compensating for the natural loss in the human ear of high and low frequencies at soft levels.

Tone Controls: The integrated amplifier features independent bass (20Hz-400Hz band) and treble (3.5kHz-20kHz band) controls so you can increase or decrease the low band and high band frequency response (+/-10dB). The entire low and high bands are increased or decreased (you cannot indicate a specific center frequency for bass & treble). You can also adjust the output balance of the left and right speakers.

Impedance Switch: The integrated amplifier features a rear-panel impedance switch to match the impedance level of the speakers connected. Choose High or Low:

  • High: Select High if using one set (A or B) of speakers with impedance of 6-ohm or higher; when bi-wiring the impedance of the speaker must also be 6-ohms or higher.
  • Low: Select Low if using one set (A or B) of speakers with the impedance of 4-ohm to 6-ohm; if using two sets (A and B) of speakers simultaneously, the impedance of each speaker must be at least 8-ohms; when bi-wiring the impedance of the speaker must also be 4-ohms to 6-ohms.

Simple Remote Control: The clean, simple design of the remote control provides easy-to-understand one-hand operation. The easy-to-use design makes it simple to adjust song volume and order. The remote has a sophisticated looking hairline finish that matches the design of the amplifiers. You can also use the remote to control a Yamaha CD/SACD player.

Auto Power Standby: The amplifier has a power management function that detects when it hasn't been used for a long time (about 8 hours) even though the power is on, and automatically shifts it into standby mode. So even if you forget to turn it off, power consumption will be minimized.

Connections

Analog & Digital Inputs: The Yamaha A-S301 integrated amplifier offers analog & digital inputs for connection of a variety of home audio components.

  • RCA + Phono: The Yamaha integrated amplifier is equipped with six analog stereo (RCA) inputs for connecting external analog audio sources, including a turntable. The Phono input can be used to connect a turntable with an MM phono cartridge to play vinyl records. The unit's Phono input also features a ground terminal.
  • Optical & Coaxial Digital Inputs: The A-S301 is equipped with both optical (toslink) and coaxial (RCA) digital audio inputs. The optical and coaxial inputs will accept 2ch PCM (not Dolby Digital/DTS). The audio stays in the digital domain, giving you pure, pristine dynamic sound for all your entertainment sources, from sports and other programs to movies and concerts.

Recording Outputs: There are also two pair of RCA outputs for recording audio through the amplifier to recording device.

A & B Speaker Terminals: The Yamaha integrated amplifier features binding post terminals for its A & B speaker outputs. You can use the A & B speaker outputs to power two pair of speakers, or bi-wire a single pair of compatible speakers. The terminals are not 5-way binding posts because a plastic collar prevents their use with spade lugs and they are too far apart for dual banana plugs.

Sub Output: A terminal for connecting a subwoofer is provided, allowing you to increase the bass output of your system for a more powerful sound with better overall sound quality

Headphone Output: The A-S301 integrated amplifier is equipped with a front-panel 1/4" headphone output for connecting a pair of headphones (sold separately). When a set of headphones is plugged in, the speaker outputs are automatically muted.

Q
Does this receiver play in hi res Lossless? If I connect a source that sends this signal, it can produce? 24-bit/192 kHz. To produce this signal, would you need a DAC, does this device count on it? Thank you!
franco  Feb 25, 2024
1 answer
A
The Yamaha A-S301 does have a built-in DAC that supports 24-bit/192K sample rates, Guilherme. If you connect a source using the Toslink optical or coaxial connections, you would be using the DAC inside the Yamaha A-S301. If you are using a high-resolution streamer like the Bluesound Node X below you would connect with RCA analog and use the DAC built-in to the Node X. The Yamaha is an excellent integrated amp with plenty of power, and a nice warm tone. https://www.crutchfield.com/p_813NODEX/Bluesound-NODE-X.html

Q
hOW TOCONECT COAXIAL CABLE TO COMPUTER?:
cary  Dec 01, 2023
1 answer
A
To connect the Coaxial digital input on the Yamaha A-S301 integrated amp your computer's soundcard would need to have a digital coaxial output, Cary. If you do not have that output available, you can use the Cambridge Audio DacMagic 100-B in the link below to connect your computer with USB to the Yamaha A-S301 (or any other device with analog audio inputs). I hope this helps! https://www.crutchfield.com/p_779DAC100B/Cambridge-Audio-DacMagic-100-Black.html

Q
Could this Amp be paired with the Definitive Technology BP 8060 ST tower speakers with built in woofers ?
carl  Aug 29, 2023
1 answer
A
Absolutely, Carl. The Yamaha A-S301 would be an excellent pair wattage wise and provide exceptional sound quality. Make sure you add the AudioQuest FLX-X RCA splitter in the link below as the Yamaha only has one RCA subwoofer output, and you will need two mono subwoofer cables to connect to the subwoofer input RCA's on each Definitive Technology 8060 speaker. https://www.crutchfield.com/p_703M22F/AudioQuest-FLX-X-RCA-Y-Adapter.html

Would this receiver pair well with a set of Jamo S 803s?
keegan  Apr 07, 2023

A
Greetings Keegan, and thank you for your question. I see no reason why not. The Yamaha Integrated amp is built exceptionally well and has a good bit of clean power behind it.

Q
If I'm not interested in surround sound, can I plug a center channel into an open port and get good results? Only want to use two bookshelf speakers for left and right and have a center channel + sub.
john  Jan 29, 2023
1 answer
A
I suppose it's possible John, but I'm not sure about any performance advantage. If you are installing a center channel you would want to use a home theater receiver with proper decoding for a center channel. With your setup if you are planning on using the fantastic Yamaha A-S301 a 2-channel stereo speaker setup plus subwoofer would sound best. If you prefer running a center channel and a 3-speaker multi-stereo setup you could, though uncommon. My concern is music that is panned purposely would be completely thrown off by a center channel run off either the L or R extra speaker connections on the Yamaha.

Q
How can I use this to stream Spotify?
jim  Nov 28, 2022
1 answer
A
Greetings Jim, and thank you for your question. This Yamaha A S301 does not have the capability to stream from the Internet, or your Phone for that matter. You would also need a device that can, then have it connected to the A S301. Yamaha makes a streaming add on which I use as well. its the WXC-50. Been using it for 6 years now. Or there are other integrated amplifiers that we carry that have the streaming capability already built in, if you do not already have the A S301.

Q
Can I use my Bose 901 speakers?
rodel  Oct 17, 2022
1 answer
A
Greetings Rodel, and thank you for your question. The Bose 901s are a little tough with todays receivers/amplifiers because of their equalizer. Receivers used to have that monitor loop, today nothing we have does. You can use the 901s without the EQ with this Yamaha A S301, or if you had to use the EQ you would run signal out of the A S301 into the EQ, then out of the EQ to a secondary power amp. Sorry, its a little more complicated today.

Can you play on two sets of speakers at the same time simultaneously? I have a pair of Dali spektor 2 and a pair of Dali Oberon on wall. Both sets are 6 ohms.
jimardee  Jul 03, 2022
4 answers
A
Yes , there is an " A " channel and a "B " channel and a setting for both A and B
mike  Jul 05, 2022
A
I've got the 301 in my bedroom and 501 in my office. Since my living room has a class D amp that plays entertainment loud, I just use the 301 & 501 for background music in the other rooms. And both the 301 & 501 have self-powered subs, so I'm only using 6.5 and 5.25 speakers. Yes, I play 4 8ohm speakers on the 301 and 2 8ohm plus 2 6ohm on the 501 at medium to low volume because it has worked for me for years. However, the specs say that technically you should use 8ohm or 12ohm if you drive four speakers. And technically, you can run two 6ohm speakers in series on just the A channel to change the load to 12ohms, which this amp can handle, but the volume generated by the amp will decrease. Back to my years of use outside the recommendations, if I really wanted to crank these integrated amps all day, I'd probably stack them and put only two speakers on each. But I've had four of my favorite speakers on each for years and I'm loving it.
richard  Jul 05, 2022
A
As of now, I am only using 2 speakers (connected to A). In answer to your question is I believe so, according to page 2 of the manual-Controls and Functions #5 front panel speakers -selecting A+B -it can run 2 sets of speakers at the same time for listening (as long both sets are wired into the unit).
michael  Jul 04, 2022
A
Since your speakers are 6 ohms the Yamaha A-S301 would not be able to play both sets simultaneously. The amp is stable down to 4 ohms, however for this to play two pairs of speakers at the same time both pairs would have to be 8 ohms.

Q
Would this amp be suitable for Fluance's Reference High Performance 3-Way Floorstanding Loudspeakers?
akus1985  Dec 20, 2021
3 answers
A
The Yamaha is a nice budget friendly amp. Depending on the efficiency of your speakers the size of your space and desired volume level will determine which size one you'll want. The 301 easily drives my high efficiency (98dbl) speakers in a normal living room. It's a well built amp and looks great.
roscoe  Dec 22, 2021
A
What I know of your speakers, the 301 should have plenty of power to drive them. It has 60 watts of very clean power at 8 ohms, 70 @6 ohms and 80 to 90 @ 4ohms. It's a very reliable amp. I have almost 1500 hours on it and it still performs perfectly. For power, clarity of sound and reliability it's hard to for the money.
dennis  Dec 22, 2021
A
Yes, it would be more than suitable. I run my Yamaha A-S301 through a set of Polk Audio RTi-A7's which are comparable to the Fluance floor towers. I've added a 10 inch powered sub-woofer to the system along with a Fluance RT-85 turntable. I've never heard a better system in the price range and have heard systems at twice the price and don't sound near as good.

Q
Does Yamaha or someone else make a preamplifier? I'm refering to just the pre-amp, not the power amp.
fred d  Jul 24, 2021
1 answer
A
The A-S301 has a built in pre-amp, you don't need an external one. There are many pre-amps on the market. From entry level to way over priced. Crutchfield, Best Buy, pretty much any online outlet carries them.

Q
How good is the DAC in the Yamaha A-S301? I don't see anything in the specs about it.
blaine  Jun 28, 2021
1 answer
A
I'm very happy with it. I've been blue-toothing lossless files through it and it's pretty darned good. I have it at a vacation cabin so my set-up here isn't first class but, as I say, I'm happy with it. I'm guessing an audiophile with super-good speakers and the rest might have questions, but that's not our situation at the cabin. I hope that answers your question.

Q
If my speakers are 12 ohms which setting do I put the impedance selector at? High or low?
rory  May 05, 2021
1 answer
A
12 ohms is a "nominal" number that manufacturers give their speakers. The actual impedance varies with frequency. So if you want more current to the speakers, use the low impedance setting.

The A-S301 is an integrated Stereo amp. There are no surround effects, or FM tuner. Its has basic features, but for the price point very high quality stereo sound. Much better than an AV receiver in this price range.

What is shipping cost? What is Crutchfield return policy if not satisfied?
frank  Jun 01, 2020
3 answers
A
Here in Maryland, shipping costs have been free provided the item(s) exceeded $35, as was the case of the Yamaha product I purchased. It took only two (working) days for the product to arrive. Crutchfield service is first-rate and the staff courteous. I've only had to return one item out of many I've purchased from Crutchfield and, with no explanation required, was immediately offered a full refund or a replacement. It's as much the service as well as the wide range of excellent products that have kept me, and will continue to keep me, a loyal shopper.

I purchased my Yamaha A-S301 on 4/17/2019. When I made my purchase the shipping was free. Also, Crutchfield offers a 60 day money back guarantee if you are not satisfied.

Could I hook two 6 ohm speakers to this ?

Yes, I hooked two polk T series, T50 @ 6 ohms, but I felt the bass take too much level, so I hooked another two Polk T15 @ 8 ohms, looking better voice sound. So, when I play my turntables with jazz, blues or big band record feel like cristal clear. For me is excellent, the perform of my Yamaha A-S301 with speakers I hooked to. I hope this will help you! Can this power 4 outdoor speakers simultaneously when hooked up to an Integra 70.1 receiver?
bruce  Jul 23, 2019
2 answers
A
I bought this amp to power 4 outdoor speakers and a subwoofer....and it works flawlessly. Instead of purchasing a receiver, I plugged my cell phone in and played my Pandora and Spotify music selections. I thought about purchasing a receiver but it would have required running an RJ-45 or coax cable from my internet provider to the amp...and I figured the phone could do it wirelessly...it works like a champ and the sound quality is excellent.
joe  Aug 03, 2019

I have not hooked the A-S301 to 4 speakers. However, at 11:00, two speakers of medium efficiency are too loud for most people, including my wife, in a 15X22 LR. It still sounds great, however, for those of us who want to hear the conductor breathing.

Those speakers should be just fine with that amplifier. While Sony doesn't give us a rating for 6-ohms, they do for 4-ohm and 8-ohm, 70 and 60 respectively. This would logically make me guesstimate that the power output at 6-ohms is roughly 65. that is barely over the RMS rating for those Yamaha speakers and shouldnt cause too many issues.

Can't see why not, but if you blow them, then it's time to upgrade! If you can afford a decent amp, then at least decent speakers are called for! Good luck

Can you remove the feet on this amplifier? I have a space 6 inches high, and the specs say this is 5 and 15/16ths, so... really tight.
erik  Apr 19, 2019
7 answers
A
Great love it
stephen  Apr 27, 2019
A
The feet might be removable but I think it would be a very bad idea. The bottom of the amplifier is heavily slotted to allow cooling air through the electronics. If you remove the feet you will block off the air flow and likely fry the electronic components in short order. Don't Remove the feet of any non-rack mounted piece of electronics.
dennis  Apr 27, 2019
A
Yes, the feet on mine can be removed with a Phillips head screwdriver. It does measure under 6 inches with the feet attached, and without the feet it's closer to 5 and 1/8 inches.
christopher  Apr 26, 2019
A
The Amp's height, "as is", does require exactly 5 and 15/16th inch clearance. The "feet" are 7/8" tall and I'm sure they could be removed (might have to open up the case to get to the screw(s) - - no obvious way to remove them without doing so, that I could see.) I'd worry a bit about whether or not this "open space" is necessary for air circulation/cooling.
jim  Apr 26, 2019
A
Yes, I also have the same tight space, this is a large unit. However, I did add a shorter foot out of material I had around so there is some air circulation to the top and a little on the bottom. Other reviews stated the unit ran hot, so I wanted to be safe. My unit does not generate a lot of heat.
peter  Apr 26, 2019

Is there a way to Bi amp a pair of speakers with this amp?
gregory  Aug 19, 2018
4 answers
A
Yes, buy two of them and two sets of Y cables for the inputs. That's what I did and it sounds great.
david  Feb 15, 2021
A
No. You would need a second unit to do something close to this. You can however bi wire, which many people don't believe in. I personally do though because you are doubling the amount of wire, giving you a better signal path.
robert  Aug 23, 2018
A
The Crutchfield staff were very knowledgeable and willing to help me with questions, call them, or Google question. I don't have answer.
john  Aug 22, 2018
A
I'm not sure what you imply by bi-amping. The amplifier has the ability to drive two speaker pairs simultaneously or separately as either one of the A or B sets of outputs. It does not have the outputs to use the amplifier as a preamp for a more powerful power amplifier. If you are looking to run a system like a Bose 901 set of speakers that has an active equalizer between the preamplifier stage and the power amp I don't think that will work.
dennis  Aug 22, 2018
Q
Is there a way to Bi amp a pair of speakers with this amp?
gregory  Aug 19, 2018
5 answers
A
Yes, if your speakers have two pairs of binding posts. I bought two of these and used Y plugs for the inputs to biamp them. You can also just buy one and use the biwire setting.
david  Feb 15, 2021
A
Gregory M; The short answer is no. The reason is that to bi-amp you need two amps and a preamp not an integrated amp. If you don't have enough power to drive your speakers you need to move up to a much larger unit. Good luck and enjoy your music.
eugene  Aug 23, 2018
A
This amp can drive two (2) pair of speakers. (i.e. A and B) It's not really designed for it, but you can drive the L and R woofers with the speaker A outputs and the L and R midrange/tweeters with the speaker B outputs.
robert  Aug 23, 2018
A
You could bi- wire a pair of speakers with this amp. You would need a second amplifier to bi-amplify your speakers.

I don't believe so (but I may be wrong - sorry), see page 10 of the owner's manual (via the .pdf download) - no bridging on this model

Q
Is the crossover frequency to the subwoofer output adjustable?
matthew  May 24, 2018
4 answers
A
The subwoofer crossover frequency output is not adjustable. (i.e. Cut Off Frequency: 100 Hz) I am taking the Subwoofer output of this amp into my Subwoofer's (Klipsch Model R-10SWi) LFE input. The Klipsch SW has a Gain and Low Pass frequency adjustment. (i.e. 40 Hz, 80 Hz, 120 Hz, LFE) These two pieces of equipment work great together.
robert  May 24, 2018
A
I love this amp and own two of them. Both have Klipsch subs hooked up & sound awesome. I run the subs strait out of the amp and use the adjustable crossover on the sub to adjust cross over frequency and gain. Some experimenting and critical listening is required. A little adjustment can go a long way. The results are well worth the effort. Keep in mind that your room has a lot to do with response so placement is also a factor. Crossover point also will effect the Omni-directional characteristics of the sub so listen closely as it can effect the stereo field/image (can be a benefit in some rooms). Keep your vocals clear and center stage...a good reference point while setting the system up. Hope this helps.
fred  May 24, 2018
A
No. But I have a powered sub-woofer. Sounds great. I read that 'Most modern AV receivers feature an auto EQ program that will assign the proper crossover frequency automatically based on the capabilities of your loudspeakers.' Can't find any info on this for the A-S301.
charles g  May 24, 2018
A
The sub out only removes most of the highs and mids. It also sends bass effects from a movie source. Your sudwoofer should have the necessary crossover pointe built into tis amp. All subs sound best crossed over at 100HZ and below regardless of main speaker size. Good listening Matt B

I would say so. It's a pretty nice quality amp in an age when not to many good ones are made anymore. I run both a CD/DVD player and an iPod through this unit and I have been very pleased with the results.
tom  Sep 23, 2016
A
I do not know. I never thought of connecting an ipod to A-S301 because it is a bit too good to use with an ipod. If you connect it, I am sure that the 301 will not add distortion to the sound.

this is an excellent amplifier, any source, like an iPod would work great with it,depending upon which iPod you have, you might be able to find a dock that allows the digital signal from the iPod to go digital into the Yamaha for even better performance
john  Sep 23, 2016
A
It's got digital and analog, so I like that I can do LPs and mp3s. How will you hook up the iPod? I got Apple TV to make it east to play music off my iPhone, but I don't know if iPod has Airplay. If the amp has an AUX in, I guess you could get an RCA to 1/8" cable.
lawrence  Sep 23, 2016
A
We use it frequently for streaming from Apple Music or Spotify via an iPad or iPhone. Whether it works for you is all about how much of an audiophile you are. If you are happy with digital streaming the Yamaha is warm and a very solid integrated amplifier. We also use it for our DVD/Video streaming and while only stereo are happy enough (good pair of Peachtree audio speakers and Cambridge subwoofer). It a great lower priced product. If y\ou are a hardcore audiophile you will want some tube amp or something much higher end.
jeffrey  Sep 23, 2016
A
Yes. I exclusively use my iPhone using Bluetooth and a DAC and get excellent results.
david wayne  Sep 23, 2016

I use it with both a CD player and an Airport express playing iTunes. For the airport express I use a Toslink cable that connects to the optical input on the amp. This way the amp is decosing the digital music, which should sound better. With a good set of speakers I assume the ipod will sound great.

wayne g.  Jul 22, 2016
A
The internal circuitry has a DAC. So the digital signal is converted for audible use.
dean  Jul 22, 2016
A
Darrel, I'm afraid you can't connect an analog REC output to a digital input. Digital signals consist of binary bits like those found in computers. Analog signals are wave forms that correspond to the waves of sound moving through the air. Digital signals require a digital-to-analog converter to create waves out of bits. Digital inputs take signals from digital sources like some DVD and CD players. The Yamaha A-S301 Integrated Amplifier will convert these signals to high-quality analog wave forms to play through the speakers. The jacks for analog and digital connections are different too. The A-S301 will accept only RCA plugs in the analog jacks. Therefore, you can only connect analog peripherals to the analog jacks and digital peripherals to the digital inputs. Terry

Should not be an issue. Receiver is Bluetooth ready. You'll need Yamaha YBA-11 wireless adapter- available from Crutchfield for $50.

Yes, it can when an optional BT receiver is installed.
stephen  Mar 07, 2016
A
It's possible; however, the unit is "Bluetooth-ready," meaning one has to purchase the optional Yamaha YBA-11 adapter.
patton b.  Mar 06, 2016
A
No. This unit is designed for higher fidelity input. Add an Apple Airport Express, use an optional optical cable out, then into the Yamaha's digital input. High quality files from sreaming (Spotify) as opposed to lower sample itunes type files sound fantastic with this set-up.
daniel b  Mar 06, 2016
A
It cannot receive a Bluetooth signal directly because it does not have any built in networking capability. However I simply connect my Apple Airport Express to it and play music from my iPhone and MacBook. Works great and sounds great.
daniel  Mar 06, 2016
A
It doesn't directly receive a Bluetooth signal. It has standard RCA inputs plus fiber optic and coax digital inputs. You would need to get something to convert the Bluetooth to one of those formats.

Q
Could I plug RCA cables into the amp from a phone/MP3-player and access the DAC in the amp? Which input would that be? I want this unit primarily for the phono stage and also to play music from my phone through the DAC.

The only input that the DAC uses is the optical input. You can try using a product like a Chromecast Audio, which has optical out. You'd use an app like BubbleUPnP or various others to "cast" your files.
timothy  Jan 03, 2017
A
I am not sure about "access the DAC in the amp. I have run a cable from an IPod. shuffle to the RCA input and it works fine. I am thinking it has already run through a DAC in the IPod. I am plugged in to the same jack that would output to head phones or ear buds. It is a nice amp and I am really happy with it.
bruce  Jan 08, 2016
A
I'm no audiophile, but I would think you can do. I have my PC connected to the amp via the headphone jack on the PC connected to the PB inputs on the amp (3rd pair down). I have no problem listening to Spotify from my computer. Just need to turn off the computer speakers.
frederick  Jan 08, 2016

NO, there is no facility to access the DAC from a phone unless you have access to the digital stream from the phone, and that is usually via a USB cable

Not technically or experienced qualified to answer your question for sure, but my thought is, YES, you can hook up three out of the 4 speakers that the A&B setting would play, but your third speaker would either be playing R or L channel sound depending on how you connect your third speaker. If your third speaker has the wiring to connect a R&L to it, my guess is it would definitely work relative to providing "Center" sound. Sorry Joseph, best I can provide. Haven't tried it, and don't know for sure otherwise.
