About the Klipsch RC-64 III

Kramer Crane

Klipsch's flagship Reference center channel

Measuring nearly three feet wide and weighing in at a massive 55 pounds, the Klipsch RC-64 III is not your average-sized center channel. Nor does this expertly designed, hand-built speaker produce average sound. It delivers vivid center-stage detail with every stroke of its four (!!) 6-1/2" woofers and dynamic 1-3/4" horn-loaded tweeter.

Features

Horn Loaded Tweeter: The Klipsch RC-64 III features a newly designed 1.75-inch titanium-diaphragm compression driver inside a molded rubber square Tractrix Horn for smoother high-end response with greater extension, enhanced imaging, and more powerful dynamics. The 6.25" square Tractrix Horn delivers a 90° (w) x 90° (h) dispersion pattern for a broader sound-stage.

  • Tractrix Horn Tweeter: The Klipsch RC-64 III features a professional-grade 1.75" titanium-diaphragm compression driver inside a molded rubber square Tractrix Horn. The compression driver features a new phase plug design to improve phase coherency at the throat of the horn, resulting in improved sound pressure linearity at high frequencies.
  • Molded Rubber Square Tractrix Horn:  The redesigned Tractrix Horn utilizes a circular horn throat paired to a square horn mouth to further improve high-frequency response and extension, while enhancing imaging and dynamics. The compressed molded rubber construction adds high frequency damping to reduce harshness and improve detail. This creates the cleanest, most natural sound possible.

Quadruple Cerametallic Woofers: The four 6.5" woofers of the RC-64 III feature Klipsch's distinctive, copper-spun Cerametallic cones. Made with an anodized aluminum, these cones are strong and dent resistant. The anodizing process converts their inner and outer surfaces to ceramic. Each 6.5" woofer feature a heavy-duty cast aluminum frame for resonant-free operation. In addition, each woofer incorporates a dual shorting-ring magnet structure design to eliminate modulation of the magnetic flux resulting in improved linearity of cone movement. The 6.5" woofers also employ a rubber surround for added durability. The outcome is a rigid cone with superb damping characteristics that will not flex or resonate at frequencies within the woofer's operating range.

2.5-Way Crossover Network: The sophisticated 2.5-way crossover network design of the RC-64 III attenuates the outer woofers output at higher frequencies to minimize horizontal interference off-axis to the loudspeaker. This maintains a wide and even sound distribution, ensuring each listener hears the center channel information exactly as intended.

Dual Binding Posts: The speaker has two sets of binding posts connected by jumpers. Using the dual binding posts, you can bi-amp or bi-wire the speakers (make sure to remove the jumpers in this scenario). The binding post terminals will accept banana plugs (single only), pin-connectors, spade-connectors, and bare wire (16AWG - 10AWG).

  • Bi-Wiring: Bi-wiring can provide noticeable improvements in the overall transparency of your loudspeakers. Run separate speaker wires to the low & high frequency drivers from a single amplifier (the upper set of binding posts are for the high frequency drivers; the lower set of binding posts are for the low frequency drivers).
  • Bi-Amping: Bi-amping allows you to use separate amplifiers for the high & low frequency sections of your loudspeaker for greater dynamic range & lower distortion. We recommend that your separate amplifiers have identical gain to preserve the speaker's voicing balance.

MDF Sealed Enclosure: The enclosure features a MDF construction with a beautiful furniture-grade wood veneer, plus improved internal cross-bracing to minimize panel vibrations that can color sound. The acoustic suspension (sealed) design of the enclosure aids in the speaker's accurate, detailed sound.

Note: Available in a Black Ash, Natural Cherry, or Walnut finish.

Magnetic Grille: The RC-64 III center-channel loudspeaker features a removable magnetic grille which easily snaps into place over its cast-aluminum front baffle. The speaker can be used with or without its grille in place.

Rubber Feet: The center channel speaker comes with six self-adhesive rubber feet to secure the speaker in place and prevent any damage to your stand's or shelf's surface. The rubber feet add approximately 0.3125" to the height of each speaker.

Placement: The RC-64 III should be centered directly above or below your video screen. If necessary, you can place the speaker on an optional floor stand in front of and below the screen that elevates it to the correct height. Ideally, however, the speaker's front baffle should be flush with the front of the screen.

USA Made: The Klipsch Reference III loudspeaker is built to order and handmade in the USA at Klipsch's manufacturing facility in Arkansas.

Q
Why Klipsch RC-64 III have no rear ports?
michael  Jul 17, 2021
1 answer
A
Because this speaker is an acoustic suspension design speaker and does not require ports. This speaker sounds fantastic.

Q
Can this speaker be used in a recessed wall since it doesn't have a port on the back of it? And if so, will it affect the sound in any way or shake the wall? Building a 20 x 17 theater room. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time!

I put it in a built in cabinet. Works wonderfully, absolutely love it. The wiring in the back would be my only concern for you. I found it difficult to hook up and slide into my cabinet. If you have that figured out I would say go for it. I do not believe it will affect the sound in any way.

I don't see a problem with doing that at all. If I had a space like that I would probably do it too. I kept DJ equipment CDJ's on mine for years and never had a change in sound, so I don't think recession would bother it at all. I would leave some space for a little ventilation just in case but the box never vibrates at all because it is such a solid piece of equipment. I love this front speaker because it kicks and sound beautiful, it really does!!! Good luck.

Q
Looking to replace center speaker with RC-64III. Currently we have Klipsch C-200 as center, Klipsch R26F (left and right), Klipsch SW-450W subwoofer, and 4 Klipsch B-20 for surround sound with Denon AVR-X3200W receiver. We are having trouble hearing dialog during movies; when we turn up volume, the background music is too high. Is replacing the center speaker a good idea? Is the RC-64III compatible with my current system? Thanks, Jeff

I would make sure your adjustments to your front left and right speakers are turned down and the eq of your center channel is set to 150 hz. This will direct more bass to your sub providing clearer less bassy tones coming through your center channel. But I will say the Klipsch RC 64 #3 is a great addition to any set up.

I am a little hard of hearing which is why I bought this center. I have it paired with older Klipsch Heresey's. I hear the center very crisp. Unencumbered from the other channels. My hearing issue was solved. I am not geeky enough to answer anything nor technical. All I know is dialogue is not an issue for me anymore

I have the RC 64III as well, you need to try and set your center channel in the Denon Receiver.. I have the Denon 7200 W.. if that does not work and you want the RC64 then go get it.. Love mine and I had a PSB Center channel before and this Klipsch is delivering the good.. Can't get my wife out of the HT room any more..

Ive been through several center speakers and the RC-64 is the best yet with very clear vocals during movies. I believe you will be happy with the move. However you may also want to review your AVR settings to insure the center is managed well. Consider more power to you LRC front stage with an amp that will bring your system to life.

Jeff: I recently bought one of these center speakers. The sound quality is excellent. I have RF III main speakers and it matches up well. I initially had some distortion with high frequencies but replaced the speaker wire with a larger gauge and that resolved the issue. of note...I have had the same issues with low volume dialog in my systems in the past. It is usually not the speaker that is the problem but the sound field in use. I have a Yamaha receiver and have the same issue if I leave it in 7 channel mode. The dialog volume is significantly improved if I use the dolby surround decode mode for movies. Might want to give that a try. Michael

Q
Can I pair this speaker with R-820F?
austin  Aug 18, 2020
1 answer
A
Hi Austin, thank you for your question. The RC-64 III center channel, will be best matched with a set of Klipsch's flagship RF-7 III floor standing speaker. Due to the difference in materials used in the cabinetry, as well as the difference in both tweeter and woofer materials used in the flagship models, there will be a distinct difference in sound quality between the RC-64 III, when used with the R-820F. If you would like to gain more product advice, or receive personalized recommendations on your setup, please chat with us online or by phone at 1-800-324-9695. We will be happy to help.

Can I pair this speaker with R-820F?

A
Yes, however, I think it is more speaker than you need to match your floor speakers. I have it paired with the RF7 speakers and they match pretty well in a very large room and 200 watts to each. Maybe look at the RP504C
kent  Aug 18, 2020
A
There shouldn't be any reason why you can't. Just make sure to level match them to the center for the best results.

depends on the room size... i wouldn't !!! my system is way overkill for my home , i paired my RC-64 III with the RF-7 III towers...Marantz reciever/ power sub B&W... lov the sound, but i only watch dvds or /movies from Prime of Netflix.... when i play music the sound quality is amazing, but only in stereo, not like a sound track from a movie which uses all the speakers ... it took over 3 months to brake in my sound system, 4-6hrs/day7days/wk at different vol levels....hope this helps M

I have it paired with RF7 III and am very happy with the match. Looks like your fronts have a similar sensitivity and therefore, I believe you will be happy with the match.
kent  Jun 04, 2020

I don't see why not as they are not connected together, or reliant on each other. I am assuming you have a receiver and amps for them. This center speaker is excellent, and I highly recommend it. This is what I put together for my theater and it is the best sound I have heard in any theater. The bass units are off the chart. I do have a very big room with 15' ceilings so it can take all the punch the system can deliver. - [ ] Klipsch RC-64 III Black Ash Center Speaker - [ ] Klipsch - Reference Premier Dual 8" 900-Watt Passive Floor Speaker - [ ] Klipsch - SPL Series 15" 400 Watt Powered Subwoofer - [ ] Bowers & Wilkins - CI 300 Series 6" 2-Way In-Ceiling Speakers (Pair) - For Surround and Atmos Speakers - [ ] Marantz AV8805 - 13.2 Channel AV Audio Component Pre-Amp for Premium Home Theater, IMax Enhanced, Auro-3D and Dolby Surround | Amazon Alexa Compatible,Black - [ ] Monolith Multi-Channel Power Amplifier - Black with 5x200 Watt Per Channel, XLR Inputs for Home Theater & Studio

Since both are Klipsch you can pair this with the Klipsch tower speakers. Tonal quality will be the same. I paired mine with the Klipsch chorus 2's and they sound great. This is an awesome center channel speaker. You will love it.
bryan  Jun 04, 2020
A
Yes, although the RC-64 is meant for the rf7 3s. What you should receive is robust and powerful presence from your center channel.
cedrick  Jun 04, 2020

Absolutely! This speaker would pair perfectly with the 8060FA towers.
