Powered Bluetooth® speaker
Our take on the Fender Monterey by Crutchfield's Ralph Graves
The Monterey features classic Fender amp details, like "witch hat" control knobs and "jewel" power indicator.
When I was checking out the Fender Monterey recently, everyone I showed it to asked the same question: "Is that a miniature guitar amp?” The confusion's understandable. Fender based the Monterey's design on their legendary '68 Custom amps. And the sound from this powered Bluetooth speaker is all Fender. I just cranked up the volume and let the music rush over me. The clean highs, punchy bass, and solid midrange were great for classic rock, and other genres, too.
High-quality Bluetooth streaming with aptX®
The Monterey features aptX® audio coding, an advanced form of Bluetooth that allows higher-fidelity sound with compatible Android™ phones and other portable audio devices. But you can also stream from any Bluetooth-enabled device to the speaker — it's backward compatible with less-advanced versions of Bluetooth.
Delight in the details
This is one solid speaker, and no wonder. Like an old-school Fender amp, the Monterey's cabinet is made of wood and covered with black leatherette. The textured grille has a metal Fender logo attached. On the top are three “witch hat” knobs for volume and tone, along with a metal toggle power switch. And yes, it even has the blue jewel indicator that lights up when the speaker's turned on.
The volume knob doesn't need to go to eleven. At ten the Monterey's blasting with a full 120 watts of power. Two 15/16” tweeters and two 4-15/16” woofers deliver tight, powerful sound — with plenty of detail at all volume levels.
OK, you can't use the Monterey as a guitar amp, but you can connect other gear to it. The speaker has stereo minijack input for your portable devices. Plus it has stereo RCA inputs. If you have a turntable with a preamp, you should give this option a try. The Monterey sound great with vinyl.

Fine sound and incredible looks. Getting lots of compliments in the office. Thought it would be louder by the weight of it. But one thing is true, no distortion and good tonality even for classical and jazz.

Fender Design: The Fender Monterey Bluetooth speaker has a look inspired by Fender's 1968 Custom amplifiers. Every detail, from the witch-hat knobs to the amp jewel and control labels came from these classic designs.
Wooden Enclosure: The wooden speaker enclosure is crafted using the same materials and techniques Fender uses to make their legendary amplifiers, giving this Bluetooth speaker a rich, natural sound.
120W Quad-Driver Design: Monterey's 120W quad-driver design features two 0.9375" tweeters and two 4.9375" woofers that have been carefully selected and precisely tuned for pure, natural Fender sound.
Bluetooth Audio Streaming: Thanks to built-in Bluetooth 4.2 with support for A2DP, you can wirelessly stream stored music libraries, music apps, podcasts, audiobooks, and other audio content on your Bluetooth source device (like your smartphone, tablet, laptop, etc.) to the Monterey speaker. AAC and aptX codec support lets you enjoy clear, high-quality Bluetooth wireless sound form your Apple iOS or Android Bluetooth enabled device. You are able to wirelessly pair multiple Bluetooth devices, but only one can be used at a time. Once the Monterey has been paired, it will automatically reconnect with the last paired device within wireless range. The Monterey has a wireless range of approximately 33'.
- Playback & search functions, as well as song/artist/album display will still be done from your Bluetooth source device (not the Monterey).
- The Monterey does not support wireless hands-free communication via Bluetooth.
Tone Controls + Shape Button: Traditional Bass & Treble control knobs on top of the enclosure let you adjust the sound of the speaker to your room, or the specific music you're listening to, so you'll always hear your music at its best. The Shape Button on the rear of the enclosure equalizes the sound, letting you tailor it to match your taste for more bass, or more prominent vocals.
Aux Inputs: The Fender Monterey is outfitted with a top-panel 3.5mm Aux input and a rear-panel stereo RCA input for connecting external audio devices with a 3.5mm (1/8") output or stereo RCA output. A source selection button lets you switch between the 3.5mm Aux input, Stereo RCA input, and Bluetooth Audio.
Power Requirements: The included 58" detachable AC power cord plugs into the back of the Fender Monterey Bluetooth speaker and into an AC outlet or surge protector (sold separately).
Note: The Monterey is not battery powered.
