Tascam's CD-RW900MKII professional CD recorder offers outstanding performance and convenience at a price that won't break the bank.

Tascam's CD-RW900MKII professional CD recorder offers outstanding performance and convenience at a price that won't break the bank.

This versatile recorder features a new TEAC-designed tray-loading transport to ensure reliable, long-term operation in the most demanding installations. In addition, the new transport allows you to write track markers without a gap, for seamless continuous live recordings — something not possible using off-the-shelf PC drives. You also get your choice of three track division functions — automatic, time-based, and manual — to make recording simpler and help create polished recordings without the need for constant supervision. Plus, a record-mute function can insert silence between tracks.

Other useful recording features include a digital input level control as well as independent left and right analog trim controls for setting optimal recording levels. A high-performance AKM processor is used for analog-to-digital and digital-to-analog conversion for clean, clear sound quality with wide frequency response and dynamic range.

And the included remote has number keys for quick access to a specific track.

Features

CD Recorder: The Teac CD-RW900MKII is a professional CD recorder with analog and digital inputs/outputs for recording of your external audio sources.

Reliable CD Transport: The new Teac transport (CD-W5600S) was designed for audio use; not a re-packaged computer drive. The tray-loading design provides a stable platter to minimize errors while writing the disc. Improved firmware allows the transport to write track markers without a gap, for seamless continuous live recordings.

High-Quality AD/DA Conversion: An AKM AK4528VM is used for AD/DA conversion for clean, clear sound quality with a frequency response of 20Hz to 20kHz (+/-0.8dB).

Disc Compatibility: The following disc type can be played back by the Teac CD-RW900MKII.

  • Commercial pre-recorded CDs recorded in CD-DA format (44.1kHz, 16-bit)
  • CD-R and CD-RW disc that have been recorded in CD-DA format (44.1kHz, 16-bit) and finalized properly
  • MP3 files (44.1kHz, 64-320kbps) recorded in ISO9660 level 1/level 2 format on CD-R and CD-RW disc, and properly finalized
Note: The CD-RW900MKII can recognize up to 255 folders and 999 files on a recorded MP3 CD-R/RW disc.

Shockproof Memory: A RAM buffer stores audio data in memory to ensure smooth playback, even if shock or vibration lasts for up to four seconds.

Analog & Digital Inputs/Outputs: Unbalanced analog, plus S/PDIF coaxial and optical connections are provided for connection flexibility. The CD-R900MKII features a stereo analog RCA input and output, a coaxial digital input and output, and an optical (toslink) digital input and output.

Independent Input Trim Controls: Both the left and right analog inputs have their own analog input gain controls. In addition, the digital input can be controlled for optimal recording levels from a digital source.

Headphone Jack: The CD-RW900MKII also includes a front-panel 1/4" headphone jack for record monitoring and playback listening.

Playback Functions: Even if you don't need to record every day, the CD-RW900MKII makes an excellent CD player. Functions including auto-cue, auto-ready, pitch control, program, random/repeat, and more are provided.

  • Auto Cue: Using the auto cue function, you can select a cue point where sound begins (not where a track begins) within a track.
  • Auto Ready: This function allows the playing back a single track, and the automatic cuing of the next track ready for playback.
  • Pitch Control: When playing back an audio CD, the pitch (or speed) of the playback can be varied (+/-16%).
  • Program Play: This function enables playback of selected tracks in any desired order (up to 99 tracks).
  • Random Play: In this mode, the unit will play back all the tracks on the disc in completely random order; regardless of track number.
  • Repeat Play (A/B): In this mode, all the tracks on a disc are played continuously. If a specific portion between two points on the disc is specified, that portion can be played back repeatedly.
  • Timer Playback: By using an external timer,  you can set the CD-R900MKII to play the loaded disc automatically when the unit is turned on by the time.

Track Division Functions: The CD-RW900MKII offers a variety of track division functions to make recording simpler.

  • Automatic Track Division: A track marker can be created based on the input level, adding a new track when the input falls below a specified level (from -24 to -72dB).
  • Time Track Division: Time-based track creation can be set every 1-10 minutes. This method is preferred in some applications like conference recording, when there is no gap between segments like there is when recording music.
  • Manual Track Division: A new track can be written manually by pressing the Record key while the unit is in record mode.
  • Rec-Mute: The Rec-Mute function can insert silence between recorded tracks.

Fade In/Fade Out: At the beginning and the end of a recording, fade-in and fade-out effects can be performed. The length of the fade-in/out can be set between 1-30 seconds.

Synchronized Recording: Synchronized recording basically means that recording will begin automatically when a signal is received, and will stop when a signal ends.

Disc/Track Titles: You can use the Text Edit option to provide titles to your recorded discs and tracks. A PC-compatible keyboard can be connected to the unit's PS/2 interface on the front panel to make it easier to input titles.

Wireless Remote Control: The Teach CD-RW900MKII includes an IR remote control for wireless operating of the CD recorder. The remote is powered by two "AAA" batteries (included). The remote's operating range is approximately 7 meters (23') at an angle of 15° left or right.

Rack Mountable: The CD-RW900MKII comes out of the box with rack ears installed. The unit will fit into a 2U rack-mount space, however it is recommended to leave 1U of space above and 4" behind the unit for proper ventilation. If needed, the player's 4 rubber feet can be removed when rack-mounting. Four rack-mounting screws with rubber washers are included.

8 questions already asked

I have not tried to record music from a pre-recorded CD, as I bought the unit to record from phonograph records and audio cassette tapes onto CD's. One thought: go to Crutchfield's product page for this unit and read/print and study the instruction manual. I just scanned the manual prior to writing this. Some of the "messages" listed on p. 32 suggest some restrictions in certain recording situations. If you can't do what you want directly, there are several workarounds. 1. Record your CD on your Apple iTunes program and make an MP3 recording at the slowest recording speed. Not ideal but it works well. I've done it in the past with very good results. 2. Record your source CD onto an audiotape or audio cassette and feed the audio signal into the CD burner. If you're only purchasing the unit to pirate CD's, I just don't have the expertise to give you a yes or no. However, if your purchase strategy is to buy a very fine CD player/recorder that gives you a great deal of flexibility, and re-recording CD's is only one of the things you want to do, you are looking at a fine piece of equipment. I love mine. I've found that very few audio devices that I've owned over the years do everything perfectly. Excellent performance overall is a good compromise if you can live with it, and this unit's performance is excellent for everything I use it for. Good luck! [ FRED  Apr 25, 2018 ]
I have been able to. [ JACK  Apr 15, 2018 ]
Set input to analog, records in most cases (not all) [ JOHN  Apr 14, 2018 ]
I Haven't experienced any problems so far. I've only used CD'S a few times. Mostly I record from vinyl. Results are awesome. [ CARL  Apr 14, 2018 ]
I have not tried to record from a prerecorded CD I only use it for live recording. [ RICHARD  Apr 14, 2018 ]
The Tascam CD-RW900MKII is a CD Recorder not a CD Copier. [ Thomas  Apr 14, 2018 ]
If the disc is copy protected I would say it cannot be recorded. Someone with more knowledge will most likely may have some suggestions. [ MURIEL  Apr 16, 2018 ]
do not know. have not tried this. [ Paul  Apr 15, 2018 ]
i never had a problem recording bought in store/prerecorded CDs from my Marantz deck into this Tascam. I'm recording some stuff for my wife to listen to, everything goes thru fine. Good luck. [ VERNON S  Apr 15, 2018 ]
The Tascam CD-RW900MKII does not use the serial copy management system because this CD recorder is a professional recorder, not a consumer recorder. In addition, you can use the less expensive non-music blank CDRs. [ MARK  Apr 14, 2018 ]
I've used it a lot without any error issues...serial copy management has not been a problem with my useage. No Finalizing problems either. [ Thomas  Apr 14, 2018 ]
Because of copyright management, you can't record a whole pre-recorded CD from the manufacturer, or record one which you made. I had a Sony CD player and recorder. It had 2 CD slots. I could record tracks from the store bought CD to the blank CD. But, after I recorded to the blank CD, I could not use the recorded CD to burn to another blank CD. I guess Sony says, we will let you make a CD. But, after you make it, we won't let you burn it to another blank CD. [ Gregory  Apr 14, 2018 ]
Sorry, can't help as I've never tried to do this. [ GREGORY  Apr 14, 2018 ]
This unit only has 1 CD tray so it will not record tracks from another CD. I tried to hook it up to my system to record from my CD player but could not figure it out. I returned this item and bought a Sony CD-R that had a separate tray for the blank CD-R. [ WILLIAM  Jul 10, 2017 ]
Hello , yes this will record analog and digital signals from your audio equipment to use in your car ! You can also put markers between songs so you can jump to your faves !! [ JOHN  Jul 10, 2017 ]
yes. Record from any source, finalize the CD and it will play on any CD player, including your car [ Milton Bays  Jul 10, 2017 ]
yes, you can choose between analog, digital or optical inputs... you will not be able to tell copy from original.. [ glenn  Jul 09, 2017 ]
yup, thats what i use it for ... i record a show on sirius deep tracks that airs in the evenings and listen to it @ some future time while i am on the road ...you can record anything .... is very versatile as far as inputs go... analog, digital and optical.... sound quatliy/fidelity excellant... well made and looks good ..easy to use ... [ glenn  Jul 09, 2017 ]
i was wrong they are removable with 2 phillis head screws... sorry about that !! [ glenn  Jul 09, 2017 ]
no [ glenn  Jul 09, 2017 ]
My initial answer was no, but I see that they can be removed. [ Charles Jarman  Apr 01, 2017 ]
No [ Charles Jarman  Apr 01, 2017 ]
Yes, they simply unscrew. I removed them on mine. [ Richard  Mar 30, 2017 ]
Hey Bruce , the ears are easily removed and are held on with 2 phillips head screws on each side ! [ JOHN  Mar 29, 2017 ]
Yes, there are two screws on each side to remove the rack ears. [ DAVID J  Mar 29, 2017 ]
Yes Kathy, you can record your voice on a cd. You'd have to get good microphone in order to do it and, you'll need a very good cd burner. [ ANTHONY J  Feb 16, 2017 ]
I forwarded your question to an Advisor and they responded with the following: It can as long as either your turntable has a built in phono preamp or if it does not have this, then you get one to put in between the recorder and your turntable. If you would like to discuss further you can contact an Advisor directly by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. [ Krissy  Aug 17, 2015 ]  Staff
No. [ Gregory  Apr 14, 2018 ]
I like it very much works just the way we need for are blues band thanks if you deal in live sound. [ CHARLES  Feb 12, 2015 ]
