Features

Overview: The Soundtube CM500i is a 2-way, blind-mount, in-ceiling speaker featuring a coaxially mounted 5.25" woofer and a 1" tweeter in a drawn aluminum backcan and ABS baffle. The speaker features transformer tap settings for 25, 70, and 100 volt operation, and also includes an 8Ω bypass. Designed specifically for indoor background to mid-level SPLs, the CM500i is ideal for schools, court-houses, retail stores, hotels, and similar applications.

Drivers: The CM500i features a 5-1/4" polypropylene woofer with a rubber surround along with a 1" convex titanium tweeter with FerroFluid cooling, all mounted in a ported aluminum backcan enclosure. This combination delivers high efficiency and performance across the operating bandwidth with a frequency response of 75 Hz to 22 kHz (-3db). Able to handle up to 75 watts RMS (150 watts Program power) and with a sensitivity of 86.5 dB, the CM500i can provide clear powerful sound with a coverage angle of up to105˚ (averaged from 2 - 10kHz).

Enclosure: The CM500i is housed in a drawn aluminum backcan with a ported ABS plastic front baffle providing added musicality with a bass response down to 55 Hz (-10 dB). Soundtube's BroadBeam Ring technology offers extended midrange clarity and ultra wide off-axis performance. The speaker includes a painted steel-mesh grill that can be painted to match the room color and includes an attached safety restraint lanyard. The grill is magnetically held in place on the speaker, making installation and removal easy. The CM500i enclosure carries both UL1480 and UL2043 UL certifications and is CE and RoHS approved.

Mounting: Installation of the speaker is done blind-mount using a constant-tension fixed-wing mounting system. Two winged assemblies come pre-mounted to each side the speaker. Once the speaker is slid into the ceiling opening 2 Phillips-head screws on the front of the speaker are tightened. This expands out the mounting arms providing tension on the backside of the mounting surface. The CM500i can be mounted to ceilings ranging in thickness from 0.25 to 1.91 inches, including drop-ceilings using the optional Tile Bridge. A secondary attachment point is provided on the back of the speaker for an additional safety line (not included).

25/70/100 Volt: The CM500i can be used in 25, 70, and 100 volt applications and includes a built-in 33 watt transformer along with an 8Ω bypass selection. A tap selection dial on the front of the speaker allows for easy configuration without having to remove the speaker from the ceiling. The following tap settings are available:

  • 25 Volt: 0.63W, 1.3W, 2.5W, and 5W
  • 70 Volt: 3W, 6W, 9W, 17W, and 33W
  • 100 Volt: 6W, 9W, 17W, and 33W
  • 8Ω

Terminals: A 4-teriminal Euroblock connector on top of the speaker is provided for wiring connections. One set of terminals provides the signal input while the other set provides a pass-thru for daisy-chaining multiple speakers. Each terminal can accommodate speaker wire up to 12 gauge in size and includes a set-screw to hold the wire firmly in place.
