Our take on the Speak Music Muse Auto by Crutchfield's Alexander Hrabe
Alexa voice-control in the car
All the stuff you love about Alexa voice control at home is now available in the car. Speak Music's Muse Auto interface lets you ask Alexa to perform everything from home automation commands to delivering the latest headlines to rocking your favorite playlist. Just use the free Muse Auto app on your smartphone to choose your preferred method of connection to your vehicle's audio system: via Bluetooth, USB, or aux input.
With the low-profile Muse Auto button mounted on your dash, Alexa hears you loud and clear. This is a great option if you've been looking to integrate hands-free calling and music streaming without upgrading your car stereo. Overview: The Speak Music Muse Auto brings Amazon's Alexa voice assistant to your vehicle. This small device pairs to your smartphone via Bluetooth, and lets you control numerous devices with your voice, while you keep your hands on the steering wheel. It attaches to your dashboard via its magnetic/adhesive mount, and is powered via USB/DC power port through the included adapter. It can interface with your vehicle's audio system via Bluetooth, USB, or Aux input.
Alexa Skills: Muse Auto gives you access to over 30,000 Alexa skills, allowing you to control countless activities from your in-car entertainment to closing your garage door. By speaking "Alexa", you can choose your music/entertainment sources, including SiriusXM, iHeart Radio, TuneIn, Audible, and Amazon Music. It works with many Smart Home devices, including Wemo and Nest. Other Alexa skills include shopping, weather forecasts, social media, calendar, and numerous other activities.
Muse Auto App: The free Muse Auto app, available for Apple and Android devices, lets you connect to the world of Alexa. The app is compatible with Apple iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch with iOS 10.0 or later, and Android devices, running Android 6.0 and up.
Connections/Controls: The device is small -- only 1-5/8" in diameter and just over 1/2" tall. It has a connecting cable that splits into two pigtails: a 54" USB connection (Type A plug) and a 79" auxiliary audio cable (3.5mm plug). If you connect to your vehicle's audio system via the aux cable, you'll need to power it with the USB cable (using the included DC power/dual USB port adapter). If your system has a USB input, it will likely provide power for the device, as well as the audio interface. The unit has a "microphone" button to activate voice control, and track skip (forward and backward) buttons for music playback.
Mounting: The low-profile Muse Auto device has a magnetic mounting disk that attaches to your dashboard via an adhesive backing. A spare adhesive pad is included, should you want to move the device to another vehicle.
