About the Alpine Hearing Protection MusicSafe Pro

Jeff Miller

Better-sounding onstage ear protection

Alpine's Music Safe Classic earplugs do an excellent job at reducing sound levels — up to 27.7 dB. But according to the musicians and DJs working here at Crutchfield, that's only half of what makes them special. Just as important? Their acoustic filters preserve the sound in your environment, so you can still hear music clearly and listen for your cues. Choose between three different levels of protection — Alpine includes interchangeable filters with "low," "medium," and "high" noise reduction.

Product highlights:

  • passive earplugs allow clear sound at safe listening levels
  • up to 27.7 dB sound reduction
  • interchangeable acoustic filters let you choose from three levels of protection
    • "low," "medium," or "high" noise reduction

Product Research

Features

Overview: The Alpine MusicSafe Pro earplugs are designed to prevent hearing damage from loud music while still letting you enjoy the music. They feature 3 interchangeable filters, for different levels of protection, while providing a comfortable fit.

AlpineAcousticFilters: The MusicSafe Pro series earplugs include filters for high, medium, and low levels of protection. Alpine's unique AlpineAcousticFilters use selective absorption to help protect against harmful noise levels while preserving excellent music quality. The type of filter you use can vary depending on what instrument you play, stage position, and style of music, providing flexible filtering options. When used in a studio environment, they offer hearing protection while still allowing you to hear conversations, keeping you in touch with you're surroundings.

AlpineThermoShape: The MusicSafe Pro earplugs are made from a very soft, flexible, and durable AlpineThermoShape material that conforms to the shape of your auditory duct when warm, making them very comfortable to wear. This also allows the earplugs to be easily fit to your ear should they be a little too large initially.

Safe Volume Levels: The maximum statutory volume limit to which hearing may be exposed is around 80 decibels (dB). Prolonged exposure to noise levels above 80 dB can lead to hearing damage or even hearing loss. Official reports show that that 80 dB level is commonly exceeded in our modern world. Concerts are a good example, where volume levels can reach 120 dB. For rock musicians, most of the harmful noise is mainly produced by the drums and the amplifiers, whereas for classical musicians their own instruments and those nearby, can greatly affect their hearing. The following chart shows the maximum exposure time at various decibel levels above 80 dB:

Noise Level Maximum exposure without hearing protection
86 dB 2 Hours
89 dB 1 Hour
92 dB 30 Minutes
94 dB 15 Minutes
98 dB 7 Minutes
102 dB 3 Minutes
106 dB 90 Seconds

Attenuation Levels for MusicSafe Pro earplugs (in decibels):
