Overview

Our take on the TiVo® MoCA POE Filter

TiVo owners often use MoCA to create a multi-room TiVo system. Because MoCA connects your home network to your coax cable, it is possible for the MoCA signal to carry your network signal out of your home (and out of an antenna, if you have one).

TiVo owners often use MoCA to create a multi-room TiVo system. Because MoCA connects your home network to your coax cable, it is possible for the MoCA signal to carry your network signal out of your home (and out of an antenna, if you have one).

That means that if a close neighbor has a MoCA adapter of their own, it might be possible for them to connect to your home network. While this isn't very likely, the way to eliminate that possibility is to install a point-of-entry (POE) filter.

Typically, only one POE filter is needed where cable enters your home, or at as close as possible to the antenna

What is MoCA?

MoCA (pronounced "mocha," like the chocolate coffee drink) stands for Multimedia over Coax Alliance. It's a great networking option if you can't easily make a wired Ethernet connection. MoCA delivers the same high-speed network connection you get with an Ethernet cable, and delivers it through your existing coax cable (the wire you use to receive cable TV) to any room in your home.

Why did you buy this?

Filter for reverse signal blocking [ Jack  Jun 18, 2018 ]
Because MoCA w/ TiVo Bolt is not working (losing almost 40 channels) and TiVo devices require their own PoE filter w/ 70-80dB rejection. It should be included with Bolt or Bridge. [ Darryl  Aug 11, 2017 ]
