Our take on the Peavey PV® 6 BT by Crutchfield's Buck Pomerantz
For the live musician
If you use two microphones along with a couple of channels for electronic instruments and playback, then Peavey's PV 6 BT mixer will handle your performance with ease. Two channels can handle vocals or instruments, while a stereo channel takes line level signals via a headphone or unbalanced 1/4" jacks. The "media channel" gets its signal via 1/4", RCA, or Bluetooth connection. A tablet cradle holds your portable device in a handy position on the mixer while it streams music.
Getting the tone right
A 3-band EQ lets you set the tone for each non-media channel. Special Mid-Morph EQ on the mic channels clarifies vocals by either cutting out low mid muddiness or adding high mid intelligibility. An adjustable compressor on the output gives you control over your sound's dynamics. Onboard digital effects — 16 different adjustable reverbs and delays are available — help vocals and acoustic instruments come alive onstage and sound full.
For home studio recording
The PV 6 BT offers a lot of features geared to the home recordist. First of all, USB output allows you to connect digitally with your computer's DAW software. That same connection also serves as the mixer's digital input, for monitoring your DAW's output with control room speakers and headphones, or as another sound source for a live take. You can plug an electric guitar directly into channel 1, using its guitar preset, so you can shred into your DAW without needing a loud amp and cabinet.
Control room monitors
Many recording studios have two sets of monitors — one small pair near the engineer and a larger pair farther away — to ensure finished mixes will sound good on everybody's stereo. The PV 6 BT features two control room outputs and a switch so you can quickly toggle between two speaker sets in order to compare the sounds.

Features and Specs
Overview: The PV6BT is a 6 channel analog mixer which includes reference quality mic preamps, Bluetooth wireless input, computer connection via USB, and 3-band EQ for channels 1-4 with bypass for channels 1 and 2. The PV6BT also includes 16 high quality digital effects, 48-volt phantom power for inputs 1 and 2. Signal/clip indicators for proper level settings.
Inputs: All of the PV6BT's main inputs are located on the top for easy access. Channels 1 and 2 are mono inputs that have both XLR and 1/4" jacks with channel 1 having a mic/line switch for direct instrument hookup. Channel 3/4 is a stereo input with dual 1/4" jacks and a 3.5mm stereo input. Channel 5/6 is a stereo input with dual 1/4" jacks and a set of stereo RCA inputs for items such as a CD or MP3 player. Channel 5/6 is also used as the input for a Bluetooth connection. The USB-B input/output is located on the back for connection to a computer.
Outputs: The main outputs are dual 1/4" jacks. The mixer also features 2 sets of dual-rca monitor outputs, a 1/4" stereo headphone output and a USB-B input/output. Channels 1 and 2 have 1/4" direct outputs which output the signal after the pre-amp/gain stage (and the pre-amp/line switch on input 1), but before the EQ stage.
Bluetooth: The PV6BT features Bluetooth 3.0 + EDR, A2DP for a seamless connection to almost any "smart" device. A Bluetooth connection shares the channel 5/6 input level and balance controls.
USB: The PV6BT mixer can stream the stereo mix directly to and from a PC via the rear USB-B connection. The USB to Control Room switch allows for direct monitoring when recording with a DAW, such as the included REAPER software. The mixer also features a tablet cradle to hold a smart device for convenient display and easy operation.
Channel EQ: Channels 1-4 feature a 3-band EQ with High and Low shelving controls. The High control adjusts 12kHz by +/- 15dB and the Low adjusts 80Hz by +/- 15dB. Channels 1 and 2 have a Mid-Morph EQ which, when turned counterclockwise, will cut at 250Hz to reduce frequencies that muddy the sound. When turned clockwise, it boosts at 4kHz to add intelligibility to vocals. Channel 3/4 mid control will provide +/-20db @440Hz.
Compression: The PV6BT offers built-in compression on the main output after the master level control, which affects both the main output and the USB output. This feature can be enabled or disabled. The compressor has a set ratio of 4:1 and is useful for controlling peak levels of the incoming audio.
Digital Effects: The mixer is equipped with a digital effects processor with 16 different effects. Channels 1-4 have dedicated effect sends. The effects include: 9 Reverb types, 4 Delay types, and 3 Chorus effects.
Level Controls: Channels 1 and 2 have individual level controls while channel pairs 3/4 and 5/6 have one level control for their respective stereo inputs. The main outputs, monitor outputs, and headphone output each have their own level control.
