Active parking lines and LED lights

Parking lots can get crazy. But Boyo's VTL17LTJ all-weather backup cam will guide you with active parking lines that help you into your space. Boyo makes installation more straightforward by mounting this cam onto a sturdy strap that stealthily attaches behind any license plate.

Nice view

Once you power the camera and run the included video cable to the compatible aftermarket monitor or receiver in your dash, you'll see a 170º wide-angle view when you're backing up your vehicle. Boyo builds in powerful LED lights to ensure a detailed picture when you're driving at night or in a parking garage, while selectable reverse image and parking lines also make this a perfect choice if you want a front camera.

Installing this camera yourself? Here's what you should know.

What does it do? Unless otherwise noted, a backup camera is only intended for use backing up your vehicle. (If you require a front-view or constant rear-view camera, check for that capability.)

What tools and supplies will I need? A panel tool, a wire cutter/stripper, a soldering iron, and a rosin-core solder with heat shrink tubing are recommended, along with whatever tools are needed to remove the radio from the dash.

How much wiring is required? Wiring instructions vary from camera to camera. Some cameras have power wiring that can only be connected near the radio. Others let you power the camera at compatible reverse lights. In all cases, the camera must be wired for power and ground, the camera's video output must be connected to the radio/monitor, and the radio/monitor must be connected to a reverse trigger in your vehicle. Some radio replacement interfaces supply a reverse trigger wire for the radio -- using that wire to power your camera will damage the interface.

Will the included video cable be long enough? You'll need to route the camera's video cable from its mounting location outside your vehicle into your vehicle's cabin and all the way to the screen in the dash. This often requires drilling a small hole in your vehicle or filing some metal and or plastic. You'll also need to estimate the length of cable needed to run from the camera to the dash, which will not be a straight shot. Each camera's cable length is listed.

Features

Front or Backup Camera: The Boyo VTL17LTJ can be used as a backup camera with a mirror image or front camera with a normal image. To use as a front camera, cut the small White loop wire to get normal viewing image (make sure to tape both ends of wire when cut).

Note: The Boyo VTL17LTJ is meant as a driving aid only; never solely rely on the camera. In addition to using the camera, always look around you to make sure everything is clear.

CMOS Image Sensor w/ LED Lights: The Boyo VTL17LTJ backup camera is equipped with a CMOS image sensor with a 720 (h) x 480 (v) resolution for high quality video. Integrated LEDs on either side of the camera provide excellent visibility at night.

Wide Viewing Angle + Angle Adjustment: The VTL17LTJ backup camera offers a 170° wide viewing angle (diagonal), so you can see more of what's behind you. You can also physically angle the camera's mounting bracket up or down (between 30°-40°) for the best view behind your vehicle.

Dynamic Park Assist Lines: The Boyo VTL17LTJ will display park assist lines on your connected monitor to aid you in backing up into a parking spot. A built-in gyro-sensor allows the park assist lines to dynamically curve as you steer and angle your vehicle.

Note: The dynamic park assist lines can be turned on or off. To disable the dynamic park assist lines, you must cut the small Blue loop wire (make sure to tape both ends of wire when cut).

Waterproof (IP67): The Boyo VTL17LTJ features a waterproof (IP67) housing to protect it from the elements. It's totally protected against dust and protected against the effect of immersion between 15cm and 1m for the duration of 30 minutes.

Composite Video Output: The Boyo VTL17LTJ backup camera if fitted with a composite video connector (RCA) which makes it compatible with virtually any in-dash receiver with integrated video monitor and a composite video camera input. The total length of the camera's video cable is 25', while the total length of the power/ground cable is 9'.

Mounting Options: The Boyo VTL17LTJ backup camera features an integrated license plate bracket which mounts behind your vehicle's license plate frame (mounting hardware is included). A surface-mount bracket is also included, if prefer to not use the license plate mounting bracket.

  • The Boyo VTL17LTJ is designed to work best on vehicles that have a license plate located at the center and above the bumper. If your vehicle has a plate location that is offset to the left side, right side or your plate is located under the bumper then the VTL17LTJ may not provide optimum performance.
  • The backup camera must be mounted at a 30° to 40° angle for proper sensitivity, accuracy, and performance. It should not be mounted horizontally or vertically straight.

Q
Does this camera work with wireless transmitter/receiver kit?
h  Oct 31, 2023
1 answer
A
Greetings H. Thank you for your question. Those wireless kits we do not offer for 12 volt systems, however if the kit you have found uses RCA composite as the input/output, this camera should work fine.

Q
Is installation included? Do you install back up camera?
efren  Mar 07, 2023
1 answer
A
Greetings Efren, and thank you for your question. The price of the camera is just for the camera, and you either install it yourself, or take it to a professional installer. We offer installs at our local Virginia retail stores for of course an additional cost above the cost of the camera.
hogan  Mar 07, 2023 (Staff)
Q
Does camera have an audio signal when getting close to an obstruction?
johnny  Jan 23, 2023
1 answer
A
Greetings Johnny, and thank you for your question. This Boyo VTL17LTJ is only a visual camera, there are no audible alerts. They do offer another with proximity sensors as well. Its a bit more costly. You can find it here: https://www.crutchfield.com/p_707VTLBSD1/Boyo-VTLBSD1.html?tp=83

Q
will Boyo VTL17LT work in a 2007 lincoln mark lt factory radio? factory unit has navigation and touchscreen functionality. thanks El
eleazar  Jan 09, 2023

A
This particular Boyo would not be compatible with your factory navigation radio as it does not have a universal coaxial input.

Q
Would this work with a dual dmcpa70?
fwcoy  Dec 25, 2022
1 answer
A
The Boyo VTL17LTJ is an excellent choice to pair with the Dual DMCPA70 radio, Jackson. You have a single rear camera input on the Dual, and the Boyo will give a great picture for your backup cam while being easy to mount to your current license plate mounts. Check out this cool video below of ours that outlines the basics of a rear camera install on a sedan! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FAVWPzYmkjE

Q
Will this be compatible with my Boss BE9ACP on my 2010 Accord? Also what other things would I have to buy to install it (harnesses and adapters etc).
bryan  Apr 02, 2022
1 answer
A
Looking at the specs of the Boss BE9ACP I don't see anything about camera input. Unless I'm missing something. I hooked mine up to a Pioneer AVIC-W8600NEX and had no issues. pretty much plug and play.
richard  Apr 02, 2022
Q
I have a 2016 Chevy Malibu LT and according to this website, this camera is compatible. I still have the stock radio screen in my car so my question is is this camera compatible with it? From my understanding, it will work if my car's stereo has a RCA video input in the back. Does anyone have an idea if mine does? Thanks in advance.
danielle  Mar 07, 2022

A
You will want to contact an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat to discuss compatibility with your factory system. They will be able to pull up your vehicle and see if this will integrate. If it does not, then they will also be able to discuss other options with you.

Q
Can I have camera connected to ignition (i.e. always on), but have LED lights connected to reverse light?
tanya  Mar 28, 2020
2 answers
A
Yea, I have my car camera always on (not this model), I can hit the back up button on my stereo going down the highway and look behind me. The one I have this way doesn't have the LED - If I remember right on this one, it is only one positive lead, so it is either all on or not. I don't think they can be separated.
kevin  Mar 28, 2020
A
The LED lights will only come on when in reverse. No need to wire separately, in fact you can't wire separately.
michael  Mar 28, 2020
Q
Do they make a license plate frame that this camera will fit into?
louis  Mar 02, 2020
1 answer
A
I put the license plate and frame on top of the camera and bolted it together.

Q
are there instruction for routing wire from the camera to the dash of a 2005 Dodge Dakota Quad Cab?
phil  Jan 09, 2020
1 answer
A
I didn't get routing instructions for my 2010 Tacoma but I looked under the cab and saw a bundle of wires going thru a grommet and fed the wires thru that and zip tied to a wire bundle going to the rear tail lights

Q
"Active parking lines"??Are the lines just straight lines, or do they curve to show you a projected path?
renzo  Aug 14, 2019
5 answers
A
The camera has a sensor to detect turning and makes the lines curve. Don't rely on them. Use as guide line. I turned them off by a jumper in the wire harness.
james  Aug 21, 2019
A
It curves to show a projected path.
paul  Aug 15, 2019
A
They curve, but I wasn't a fan of that feature. I ended up turning them off by disconnecting one of the wires. It's labeled right on them. I opted to use the lines from my stereo. The camera quality was really good.
tony  Aug 15, 2019
A
Depending on your vehicle they do bend and show your turn as you back up.
dort  Aug 15, 2019
A
lines curve

Q
is power hook up down to the vehicle backup light?
michael  Apr 17, 2019

A
That is the most common place. It allows the camera to turn on and off with the rear view lights. If you purchased the camera from Crutchfield our tech support can help you get the wires connected. You'll find their number at the bottom of your invoice.
casey  May 03, 2019 (Staff)
A
That is how I like to do it, so the backup lights trigger the camera.

Q
Hodo I calibrate the parking lines? They are way off
donald  Mar 29, 2019
1 answer
A
You can turn them off, but can't adjust them. Since it's not tied into the steering, it's kind of a guess on it's part.

Yes. The Boyo VTL17LT uses a RCA video connection and the Sony XAV-AX1000 has a RCA video input on the back. They are very much compatible.

Yes I have same set up
joe  Mar 20, 2020

I do not see in the Alpine W650 specs that it is capable of review camera or backup camera. So, I would say it won't work with it.
james  Feb 25, 2019
Q
where do you connect the camera wires?
thomas  Dec 31, 2018
2 answers
A
The video (RCA) camera wire connects to the back of your radio head unit. There should be a round jack that you plug into. I assume your radio has the ability to display backup image? So, you have to run the video wire all the way to the radio.

What's the deal with the trigger wire? It's hot anytime the key is in acc or run. No where is that spelled out so I'm sharing here to save potential installers a heads up. DO NOT hook it up to your backup lights...instant regret. D-:

Q
how does the active part of the lines work without some form of steering input?
james  Sep 03, 2018
4 answers
A
Good question. One for the techies that designed it. The active lines work just fine
joseph  Sep 03, 2018
A
To be honest with you I don't know. All I know is when I hooked it up with my head unit it has the steering lines with it. Not sure if the head unit does it or the camera itself.
christopher  Sep 03, 2018
A
To be honest I didn't install the camera my friend did for me and I was there it's supposed to plug in to your headunit if it has a camera mode and you run it to the back of your car mount it above license plate and there's another wire that you solder to any source of ground and once everything was working the lines would just move when in reverse idk how to explain it really
john  Sep 03, 2018
A
I would guess it's some kind of gyroscope. That feature is pretty useless. I turned that feature off and just use the parking assist from my head unit. I do like the product very much though. It works well, I just feel that particular feature is useless. Hope that helps!

Yes you can....simply remove the "jumper cap" from the blue wire and they will no longer show.
terry j.  May 11, 2018

According to the instructions, yes you can turn off the parking lines. There is a jumper on the wiring harness that you simply remove to turn them off. I have not physically done this, but the jumper is there.
joseph  May 08, 2018
A
Yes they can be turned off.
amy  May 08, 2018
A
Yes there is a jumper wire on a board to the camera or the camera.

Yes, but I find them extremely helpful in my Ford F-250 truck. They did need to be calibrated properly, I parked the tires on a long straight line and did one side, then moved the truck so I could adjust the other side. They have worked like a charm ever since!!
gregory  May 08, 2018
A
Yes, just follow the included instructions.
julianna  May 08, 2018
A
Yes, you just remove a jumper on the cable

What do I need to install?
fernando  Oct 15, 2017

It comes with most everything you need. The only additional item you'll need is something to tie the power wires in to the existing wires. I just used wire nuts, you could also solder or use T junctions.
