About the Ring Video Doorbell Pro
Upgrade your doorbell
Upgrade your doorbell
Sure — Ring's Video Doorbell Pro is a doorbell, but it's also much more. It's a powerful home security camera in a super sleek package, and its companion mobile app is fully loaded with features that allow you to keep an eye on your home from wherever you are.
Connect to your existing wiring
The Ring Video Doorbell Pro does need to be hardwired, but if your current doorbell operates at a voltage between 16 and 24 volts AC, you can connect it to your existing wiring. This will both power Ring's camera and allow it to trigger your old chime when someone rings the bell.
Keep tabs with your phone or tablet
Not at home? Not a problem. You'll get an instant notification on your mobile device. You can answer from the app while checking out an HD view of your visitors, and they won't know you aren't at home unless you want them to.
Answer the door from wherever you are.
Catch the important action
But when someone is up to no good — like stealing your freshly delivered packages — they probably aren't ringing the bell. Ring Video Doorbell Pro definitely has you covered there with infrared night vision and advanced motion detection.
You can create your own custom motion zones within the app, so that you can keep an eye on specific parts of your yard while avoiding heavily trafficked street areas. That way, your important notifications don't get lost in the shuffle.
The motion sensitivity slider allows you to fine-tune what triggers a motion event. Its scale ranges from “people only” to “all activity.” Motion scheduling allows you to turn off the motion detection on certain days and times — trash pickup day, for example.
Mounting tips
Optimal mounting height is four feet. But our front doors don't always conform to the norm, do they? Fortunately, Ring offers an accessory wedge kit. You can use one, two, or all three of the kit's wedges depending on how steep you need the angle to be. Here are some situations where you might want to angle your Ring Video Doorbell Pro down to improve performance:
- your door is up a flight of stairs
- you are mounting on siding
- your current doorbell is mounted higher than 4 feet
Ring also offers a corner kit to improve motion detection when your around-the-corner door has a suboptimal view of your home's approach.
Optional cloud storage
The camera streams live footage to the app 24/7, but if you want to save or send video clips, you'll need a Ring Protect plan. Ring Protect is a subscription-based cloud storage service. The basic package ($4.99/month or $49.99/year) covers a single camera and allows you to save and share your Ring videos from that camera. You get a free, 30-day trial subscription when you activate your Ring device.
Installing multiple Ring devices? The Ring Protect Plus plan ($10/month or $100/year) includes cloud storage for unlimited Ring devices at a single location.

More details on the Ring Video Doorbell Pro
Product Research
Features
Overview: The Ring Video Doorbell Pro instantly alerts you (on your smartphone, tablet, or computer) when someone approaches your front door or rings your doorbell, and lets you see and hear who it is before you answer. The Video Doorbell Pro has a built-in camera that streams HD video via Wi-Fi, and two-way audio to let you speak with your visitor. It features customizable motion zones, and enhanced Wi-Fi. The Ring video doorbell replaces your existing doorbell, and integrates into the existing 16-24 VAC transformer wiring. Four interchangeable faceplates are included, so you'll find one that fits your décor.
Camera: The Video Doorbell Pro has a wide-angle lens with a 160° field of view. The camera produces bright 1080p HD video in a Live View that you can watch on your phone, tablet, or computer. When motion is detected, a notification will be sent to your smart device or computer through the Ring app, allowing you to view the live video stream. Built-in infrared LEDs enable night vision after the sun goes down.
Motion Zones: Motion Zones allow you to define specific areas that you want the Ring Doorbell Pro to monitor for movement. You can determine the size and shape of the Motion Zone in the Ring app by "drawing" the box on your screen. Other zones, where there is frequent activity that causes false alerts, can be designated as non-active. Other Motion Settings include scheduling and sensitivity. You can schedule brief interruption in coverage to avoid triggering alerts caused by expected activity. A slider in the app menu lets you fine tune the sensitivity from "People Only" motion to "All Activity.
Weather Resistant: The Video Doorbell Pro is resistant to inclement weather and temperature extremes (-5°F to 120°F).
Installation: The Ring Video Doorbell Pro is designed to replace an existing doorbell, and is compatible with most mechanical or digital doorbell chimes with 16-24 volts AC transformers. Installation hardware and wiring are included. Optional Wedge and Corner installation kits, sold separately, can help properly aim the camera for best performance. Four interchangeable faceplates are included with the Video Doorbell Pro -- Satin Nickel, Black, Cream, and Venetian Bronze -- so you can customize the look.
Wi-Fi: The Ring Video Doorbell Pro operates on an 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi connection on either 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz bands. It requires a minimum upload speed of 1 Mbps, however, 2 Mbps is recommended for best streaming performance.
Ring App: The free Ring - Always Home app pulls together all of your Ring devices, including Video Doorbells and Security Cameras. You can have multiple users on your Ring account, each with the ability to view video from any of the video devices. The app sends you an instant alert when someone triggers a motion sensor, or rings your Ring Video Doorbell. You'll be able to see, hear, and speak to anyone on your property using your smart device. In addition, the app lets you create a virtual Neighborhood Watch and receive alerts from your neighbors. In the app, you can zoom and pan for a better look, customize the Motion Zones, times for receiving (or not receiving) alerts, and how often to be notified for motion events. The Ring App is available for Apple iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch running iOS 9.1 or later, and for Android devices running version 4.4 and up. The app also works with Windows 10 and Mac OS.
Ring Protect: The Ring app includes a free 30-day trial of Ring Video Recording, which lets you save, review, and share recordings from the app. Ring Protect plans are currently* $3.00 per month / $30.00 per year for basic coverage (per camera), or $10.00 per month / $100.00 per year for Protect Plus (unlimited cameras).

Received this to install on my new home currently under construction, friend has one so I have seen it in action, sure it will be fine. Although I didn't need this for several more months I ordered early to take advantage of the special price. As always, Crutchfield service is superb.
