About the Klipsch Reference R-10SWi

Kramer Crane

High-quality bass made simple

Klipsch knows how much fun it is to have your own home theater. They also know that running a long cable from your receiver to your sub can be challenging. So they've equipped the R-10SWi with wireless signal transmission — this power-packed sub can deliver deep, impactful bass anywhere you have a power outlet.

Klipsch R-12SWi Reference wireless powered subwoofer

The wireless transmitter plugs into your receiver's sub output, and sends high-quality bass across the room.

How it works

This sub's "secret sauce" is how Klipsch transmits low-frequency effects. The included wireless transmitter plugs into the sub output on the back of your receiver (sometimes labeled LFE). Simply plug the transmitter and the sub into an A/C power source and you're ready to rock.

Wireless signal transmission offers flexible placement

There are two huge benefits to using a wireless subwoofer. Not having to snake a long sub cable across the floor keeps kids, pets, and gear safe. And having placement flexibility for your sub can significantly improve your system's bass response. We recommend trying your sub out in a few different spots around the room to see where you get the best performance.

Want some tips on getting the best bass in your room? Check out our subwoofer setup guide.

If adding two of these subs, each one must operate with its own pre-paired transmitter. If your receiver has two subwoofer outputs, you can connect one transmitter to each. If your receiver has just one sub out, you can use a mono RCA Y-adapter.

Features

Wireless Receiver & Transmitter: The Klipsch Reference series R-10SWi powered sub features a built-in wireless receiver and comes with an external wireless transmitter that plugs into your AV receiver's LFE output. Thanks to this 2.4GHz wireless connectivity, your receiver can now send its LFE audio signal to the R-10SWi powered sub wirelessly (no subwoofer cable required between receiver and sub). Wireless range is approximately 30' at CD-quality level.

  • The powered sub's built-in wireless receiver is pre-paired to the included wireless transmitter for quick and simple installation.
  • If adding two R-10SWi powered sub, each subwoofer must operate with its own pre-paired transmitter. If your receiver has two subwoofer outputs, you can connect one transmitter to each. If your receiver has just one sub out, you can use a mono-RCA Y-adapter (sold separately).
  • The wireless transmitter measure 2.375" (w) x 0.6875" (h) x 4.75" (d).
Note: Both, the powered sub & wireless transmitter will require AC power.

10" Woofer: The Klipsch Reference series R-10SWi powered sub is fitted with a powerful 10" copper-spun IMG (injected molded graphite) front-firing woofer for deep bass. The copper-spun IMG woofer is exceptionally light while being extremely rigid, providing remarkable low frequency response with minimal cone breakup and distortion. The front-firing woofer gives you greater placement flexibility than a down-firing woofer.

150 Watt Amp: The Klipsch R-10SWi powered sub employs an all-digital 150 watt RMS (300 watt Peak) amplifier for high efficiency and dynamic bass performance.

MDF Cabinet: The R-10SWi is housed in a durable MDF cabinet and finished with a brushed black polymer veneer. The MDF enclosure is rigid and protects against unwanted vibration and distortion.

Rear Firing Port: The R-10SWi's enclosure uses a bass reflex design with a rear-firing port for greater efficiency and bigger bass.

Controls: The level control, low pass crossover, and phase control allow you to blend the powered subwoofer's low-frequency tones with your system's other speakers, as well as establish the ideal level of bass.

  • Level Control: The level control adjusts the subwoofer's volume relative to the rest of your home audio system. After the sub's level control has been set, the volume control of your AV receiver will be the volume control for both the Klipsch powered subwoofer and your connected loudspeakers.
  • Low Pass Crossover: The variable lowpass crossover is adjustable from 40-120Hz. The crossover point chosen determines where low bass frequencies are "handed-off" from your AV system's loudspeakers to the Klipsch powered subwoofer. Set the crossover point based on the size of your systems' main left/right speakers.
  • Phase Control: This control is used to acoustically match the subwoofer's output to your main speakers. Select the position either 0˚ or 180˚ in which your subwoofer has more output at the listening position.

LFE/RCA Inputs: If you prefer a hardwired connection, the Klipsch R-10SWi powered subwoofer is also equipped with a pair of line-level RCA-type inputs to connect the sub to your receiver or integrated amplifier.

  • LFE Input: Most of today's AV receivers have a line-level subwoofer output (LFE). If your receiver has an LFE output, connect one end of a subwoofer cable (sold separately) to this output and connect the other end of the cable into the powered subwoofer's line-level input labeled "LEFT/LFE". Set the powered sub's built-in crossover to "LFE" with this type of connection.
  • Stereo Input: In absence of a subwoofer (LFE) output on your receiver, as an alternative hookup, you can connect Left & Right channel pre-amp outputs from the receiver to both the "Left/LFE" and "Right" inputs on the powered subwoofer.

LED Indicator: The front-mounted LED power indicator lets you know when the sub is powered on or off. The LED will light green when the powered subwoofer is on and receiving a signal. If the LED is dark and not lit, the powered sub is off.

Auto Power On/Off: The powered subwoofer will automatically turn On when it senses an audio signal. It will automatically go into "Standby mode" after 15-20 minutes with no audio signal. You can also choose to turn the powered sub On or Off manually from the rear-switch on the back.

Placement: Klipsch powered subwoofers are designed to reproduce deep bass and deliver the impact that makes your movies and music come alive. For optimum performance, place your subwoofer in a corner of the room on the same wall as your front channel speakers. Please note that room placement can have a dramatic effect on the performance of your powered subwoofer. Corner placement, as suggested above, will increase the amount of bass output, while placing the subwoofer along the middle of a wall, or out in the room will decrease the amount of bass output.

Q
Is this is suitable for r4b sound bar ?
sreeram  Jan 29, 2024
1 answer
A
Greetings Sreeram. Thank you for your question. The R4B comes with a already paired wireless subwoofer. The Klipsch R 10SWi would not be a replacement subwoofer for the R4B even though it is also wireless. They use a different wireless frequency. The R4B bar does not have a wired subwoofer output to use a wired sub, or this subwoofer with a wire connecting them. Unfortunately, you will have to use the wireless subwoofer that came with your bar.

Q
Hi. Does the Klipsch wireless subwoofer ever go on sale ?
mitch  Jun 24, 2023
1 answer
A
There have been sales on it in the past. If you would like to be notified about a sale, should it happen again, I recommend contacting an advisor by calling 1-800-324-9695 to make the arrangements.

Q
My receiver is in a IT Closet separate from the entrainment room. will the signal travel trough a wall/ closet enclosure?
damon  Mar 31, 2023
1 answer
A
Theoretically, yes. However, we cannot guarantee performance through a wall/door. Passing through solid materials may shorten the approximately 30' range offered by this system.

Q
Will the Klipsch R-10SWI work with a Yamaha HTR 6140 Receiver?
charlie  Mar 06, 2023
1 answer
A
Greetings Charlie, and thank you for your question. The Klipsch R10SWi comes with a transmitter that would plug into the subwoofer output jack on any receiver that has an RCA subwoofer out.

Q
What are the dimensions of the wireless transmitter?
robert  Feb 21, 2023

A
Greetings Robert, and thank you for your question. I will see if we can get that added to the presentation on our website. The dimensions are as follows 2.375 inches wide x 4.75 inches deep, and 0.6875 inches high.

Q
Can this wireless sub be placed inside an enclosed cabinet?
tom  Feb 14, 2023
1 answer
A
It can be placed inside a cabinet but depending on the size of the enclosure and the distance the receiver is from the cabinet you may run into connection issues and the subwoofer may sound very boomy so you may want to consider plugging the port.
arielle  Feb 14, 2023 (Staff)
Q
Can this be used with a Bluetooth receiver that doesn't have a separate rca subwoofer output?
james  Jan 19, 2023
1 answer
A
It would not be possible to connect this without an RCA preamp output. In order to use the wireless adapter, a subwoofer-specific single channel RCA output would be necessary. It would be possible to connect the sub with a cable to 2-channel RCA preamp output set so long as they provide variable volume control. This subwoofer does not have any sort of speaker level input.
zachary  Jan 19, 2023 (Staff)
Q
Can a single transmitter be used with two subs? I own an R-10SWi already but I'd like to add a second. Thanks in advance.
robert  Dec 11, 2022
1 answer
A
Greetings Bob, and thank you for your question. I had to reach out to Klipsch for the answer. Each transmitter is paired with the subwoofers receiver. To add a second wireless subwoofer, you must also use the included transmitter with the second sub. If you have two subwoofer outputs, you need to use both. If you only have the one, you need to split that with an RCA splitter and run both transmitters from the splitter.

Q
Will this work with the discontinued Klipsch HD Wireless Control Center?
cfrank01  Aug 06, 2022
1 answer
A
This subwoofer will not work with the Wireless Control Center. The R-10SWi is intended for use with receivers and amplifiers with LFE RCA outputs.

Q
How do you connect or pair the R-10SWi with the Klipsch R-15PM monitors?
jon  Jul 12, 2022
1 answer
A
The R-15PM only offers a single-channel RCA output for connecting a subwoofer. It would be necessary to use an RCA Y-adapter to split the subwoofer output for two subs. This will be the case whether we use the wireless transmitters or RCA cables. Here's an example of an RCA Y-adapter for this application: www.crutchfield.com/p_703M22F/item.html

Will this sub work with the following setup: Yamaha RX-V385, Klipsch RP4000F, RP 400C, and R-51M for surround?
janet  Apr 09, 2022

A
It should work fine .I have all RP klipsch speakers with a sony 1080 receiver and it works great with non BLOATING bass. Just make sure to set the crossovers to blend with the speakers.
tony  Apr 11, 2022
A
Yes, it will work with any receiver or powered speaker that has a "sub-out" or line level outputs. The wireless module plugs in to the back of the source and delivers the signal to the sub. I think your connection is referred to as "Pre Out Subwoofer" Easy hookup and works great.
edward  Apr 11, 2022
Q
what is a typical low pass setting for home theater ?
thomas e  Apr 09, 2022
1 answer
A
The best setting will come down to the exact components, space, and personal listening preferences. Most home theater receivers include a calibration setup and speaker settings menu that will help you tweak your sub and other speakers to best match your space and taste.

Q
I have an Onkyo TX 2500 100 watt receiver. Bought 2 RP160 M speakers from you last week, they work great. Will the Klipsch R-10swi powered subwoofer work with my setup?
robert  Feb 13, 2022
1 answer
A
Wow that receiver is an oldie but goodie. You would have to look at back to see if there is a plug-in that says sub or subwoofer, if that is present then it should work just fine.

Been using it for over a year with wireless and have had no issues with latency or otherwise. You can adjust threshold levels on the speaker as well as with your amp. If you have a good receiver/amplifier, you're probably going to be fine.

I have mine kooked up to a onkyo rz 820, no problems.
dennis edward  Sep 04, 2021
A
It should. I looked your receiver up and it looks like there should be two 'subwoofer pre out' jacks on the back. Most newer equipment have these - as does my Yamaha RX V677. This sub really pairs well with my Klipsch RP 280F's that I purchased from Crutchfield also.
michael  Sep 04, 2021
A
I don't see why this wouldn't work with your receiver. It was very easy to set up with my Yamaha receiver and all receivers usually have the necessary connections to work with a subwoofer. I used this wireless Klipsch subwoofer to connect to a second SVS subwoofer that is wired directly to the Yamaha receiver in the front of the room. The Klipsch came with a wireless receiver/dongle that plugged into my SVS subwoofer and communicates in unison with the SVS subwoofer perfectly.

Can I connect the subwoofer to two different inputs: the transmitter to my home theater and the LTE input to a Fender powered speaker? I will not use both at the same time but I want to switch between the two when doing karaoke. Thank you
roberto  Jun 22, 2021
2 answers
A
Yes, you can send two signals, one on the wireless and one on the wired channel in the back. They will actually play at the same time if they are both on. However, there is only one gain/volume knob on the back so any leveling with the mains would need to be done at the amp, at least for one of the two signals, or manually. I've been really happy with this unit. Easily fills up a modest 400sf room. So impressed with the output and price I bought a second one for my son.
james  Jun 23, 2021
A
I suppose you could. There is the wireless function that had a transmitter that you plug in to your amp or receiver. There are also RCA connectors on the subwoofer so I guess you could wire them to sometime else.
robert  Jun 22, 2021
Q
New to Subwoofers, is this compatable with a Yamaha R-N303? I don't see an LFE port...
gary  Jun 17, 2021

A
Gary, The LFE Port is the number 1 input (L) on the Line In Ports on the left back side of the sub woofer looking at it from the front. You will see the letters LFE next to the L input connector.
lawrence  Jun 17, 2021
A
No it looks like your amp does not have a subwoofer out. You would need a subwoofer that takes speaker out. Then you would run speaker wires to the sub from the amp then from the sub to the speakers.

Will it work with an Audiolab 6000A?
john  May 20, 2021

Your 6000A is not set up for a power sub. This power sub has it's own amp. Unless you have a receiver / amp that has a dedicated / LFE I would have to say no! That said, I would call the Techs at Crutchfield, an ask them!

My receiver is an Onkyo TX-SV303PRO. Will that receiver support the R-10SWi subwoofer and Premiere RP-400M speakers?
ford  Dec 28, 2020
2 answers
A
Yes it'll work perfectly
sandy  Dec 29, 2020
A
Yes, generally speaking receivers will support virtually all speakers from major manufacturers, and there should be no compatibility issues. For example, I have connected my Denon receiver with a combination of JBL in-wall speakers, the R-10SWi subwoofer and the Klipsch RP-250C center channel. Technophiles may not like to mix and match speakers but I am not as picky. If you want to be 100% sure, you need to check that the Onkyo receiver will accept the impedance of the speakers that you would like to use. Just do a google search for "speaker impedance matching". Or, simply call the Crutchfield sales team. I have found them to be very knowledgeable.

Byron Dean M.: I cannot comment regarding Yamaha Music Cast, and all my home theater speakers - other than the Klipsch subwoofer - are hard-wired. I do, however, use Chromecast to input signals to my Onkyo (from both Android and Apple sources) and have had no interference issues whatsoever with the Klipsch. Good luck!

Does this Klipsch subwoofer connect wirelessly to a Denon Heos AVR?
ed  Apr 12, 2020
2 answers
A
The Klipsch subwoofer comes with a small wireless box (optional) powered by a micro-usb (included) and it works by plugging its one RCA male into the RCA female subwoofer spot on the Denon then automatically connects to the subwoofer wirelessly. It works for me. I never tried the Denon wireless directly to the Klipsch.

Gabriel, I am unclear what you are trying to do. The subwoofer is either directly connected to the receiver via subwoofer cable or wirelessly. Mine is connect wirelessly and it works great. Your floor speaks would also be connected to your receiver. The subwoofer will work with any speaker, just a matter of what you prefer to listen to.

Your speakers do have an RCA mono subwoofer output that can be used to connect a powered subwoofer like this one!

Q
How does the auto-on/auto-off feature work? Will it automatically turn off if the wireless adapter is on but the receiver is off?
justin  Feb 12, 2020
5 answers
A
Yes.
bruce  Feb 16, 2020
A
The auto-on/off feature works by detecting an audio signal being transmitted by the wireless adapter, which is always on. The sub will deactivate after a period of time with no detectable signal. In my case, that circuit became unreliable over time and the sub activated and deactivated continually, so I had to disable auto-on/off, unfortunately.
john  Feb 12, 2020
A
I cannot answer your question as I do not own this subwoofer.
william  Feb 12, 2020
A
Yes, it will auto off when the receiver is off. The auto on/off is controlled by the signal level coming from the receiver to the adapter. If the adapter is on but is not seeing a signal from the receiver it will shut the sub down.

I don't see any reason why you couldn't, but be aware that there are four foot pads on the bottom (looks like they can easily be removed with a screwdriver (important to have those on to prevent vibrations). Also note there is an airport in the back, so you will need some space for the back blow-out..

I cannot answer this question, but I have two comments: (1) I find it very hard to believe this subwoofer cannot be used with your receiver, I just don't know which plug to use, HOWEVER (2) I have never heard of "L" and "R" subwoofer output jacks - I do not believe sound waves at this frequency are stereophonic or directional - please make sure they are not actually inputs for two separate subwoofers #1 and #2 (which is what I have).
bruce  Dec 16, 2019
A
We would have to check the receiver's setup to be sure but if your receiver is designed so that both of those preamp outputs need to be used with one sub, then Josh's idea of using an RCA Y adapter is the solution. Feel free to contact an advisor on 1-800-324-9695 to discuss this and check
jason  Dec 13, 2019 (Staff)
A
My receiver has a single RCA plug on the back called Sub Woofer Pre out which I plug the sign RCA jack into... check to see if the TWO RCA subs you have are to allow of TWO (2) different subwoofers for you system and you would just plug into one of them. Two RCA plugs doesn't make sense to me for a subwoofer because there is not a left and right channel for the subwoofer.
glenn  Dec 12, 2019
A
The manual of the receiver "should" tell you which you should use if you're only using one sub. It's a pretty common thing to only have one sub. Or you can buy a "y" adapter, that would work too.

Steve, I have texted my wife to ask her to measure the power cord. If I don't hear form her, I will measure it when I get home and reply later this evening if that's OK.. I actually have two of these subwoofers - one in my upstairs "media room" which is about 15'x18' and one downstairs in a cabinet in my living room area (not ideal placement down there). In both areas, they easily fill the room with plenty of bass. The downstairs has 11' ceilings and is a big space. I also have 6 Klipsch CDT-5800-C IIs installed downstairs and they fill up the space and sound great.

What is the range of the wireless signal? Would it pass through a brick wall to another location about 20 feet away?
rebecca  Jul 30, 2019

A
Hello, mine was located 40 feet away and going through a double insulated wall with no issues, the sounds was awesome. The system uses the 2.4GHz signal to broadcast, which is the same type used for cordless home phones. Klipsch doesn't give range specifications, but my past experience using devices with this type of signal, I have found it works very well going through structures. Not knowing your type of brick wall--If it was me, I'd install it--I bet it will work fine. I hope this was helpful! Frank

Is this compatible with a Marantz NR1609 receiver and Klipsch RP4000F Speakers ? Thank you
luis  Jul 29, 2019
1 answer

Hi Luis, thank you for your question! The Klipsch Reference R-10SWi subwoofer is compatible with the Marantz NR1609 receiver. You have the option of using a wired connection to your receiver through the subwoofer preamp output, or you can use the sub wirelessly with the included wireless transmitter. This sub will also be a great match up with your Klipsch RP4000F speakers. Feel free to chat with an Advisor online or by phone at 1-800-324-9695. The Supreme Court recently passed a law allowing state governments to mandate online sales retailers to collect sales tax even when they don't have a physical presence. CA (along with many other states) have required we now collect tax at the point of purchase. If you have questions or take issue you can contact your local state government representative.

I have this sub to connect to a edifier bookshelf speaker set that has a sub out port. The transmitter doesn't connect to this since it's lfe I think, the bookshelf speaker has a l/r ports and a cox port too, what should I do too make it work?
austin  Mar 02, 2019
2 answers
A
I have two Klipsch sub's used in different applications. But in both cases, the amplifier source has an RCA-type connector for the output to the subwoofer. I have looked at the web for those Edifier speakers and I can find no documentation about what the connector is--clearly not an RCA. "LFE" does not refer to the connector type, but rather the signal type--in this case "Low Frequency Effects". Not sure what I can tell you other than perhaps get some technical advice from the Edifier folks. And the "COX" is an input to your bookshelf set--same RCA-type connector, but the signal it will receive has to be digitally encoded somewhat like what would come through the optical connector. Neither of these latter will do you any good connecting to a sub woofer.

I listen to a lot of the greatful dead soundboards and the fidelity is outstanding pretty much strait forward in the higs and mids they dont demand much from the speaker but the bass at times is subsonic and it'll shake the room . Can I run 2 r10swi subs simultaneously using both transmitters? Or, will 1 transmitter work for both? Or, will I have to hard wire one to avoid buying a wireless control center? Thx george.
george  Nov 28, 2018

A
It all depends on your amp! I run both my subs through my Yamaha RX-V673, which has connections for two subs. You won't need a wireless control center if your amp is a newer model. Hope this helps, the sub is fantastic, nice not having to hard wire them. If you have to hard wire your looking at the wrong item.
dennis a  Nov 29, 2018
A
I see no reason to believe that you couldn't run two subs off of one transmitter. You press and hold the sync button for 3 seconds to pair. Just make sure both subs are powered up when syncing. Not sure that two would offer any additional benefit over one. Obe sub can give you overwhelming unidirectional bass even in a hollow room. I keep the gain on mine set around a quarter of the way up.
terry  Nov 28, 2018
A
I don't know. Wow, the thought never even crossed my mind to use two of these. One does the trick for me and I chose to hard wire it. If you feel you need two subwoofers, maybe you should consider a larger one with more power. Remember, the low frequencies aren't directional in nature. Cheers!

robert e  Nov 26, 2018

Kelvin, no, it is 110/120 only. The sub and the powered wireless sender are both 110/120 only.
bruce  Nov 26, 2018
A
I live in a country with 120V/60Hz AC power. The R-10SWi I purchased last year says "AC IN 100-240V - 50/60Hz 2A" on the back (and the 2A must be a maximum spec since such would vary depending upon input voltage). Hence, at least the one I purchased is dual-voltage capable. There is no external transformer--so if you will use this with a 220/240V system, the power cord will need to have an adaptor or will have to be specified for that country.

I have this sub paired with Klipsch R-15M bookshelf speakers, Klipsch R-1650 in ceiling speakers and a Denon AVR-S530BT Receiver. As long as your receiver accepts or has an input for a sub, your speakers should work with this sub.

As long as your receiver has a sub output port you should be fine. Most newer receivers have a calibration function, which you'd need to do to tune for your room. I think you'll find the improvement of your audio will be incredible.

In my experience, yes. Since it is a wireless (not infra red) connection, it behaves like a wireless router in your home network. The type and amount material obstructing the signal will dictate the signal strength received by the subwoofer.

Q
I see the MartinLogan SW2-TRD and the Klipsch R-10SWi both operate at 2.4 GHz. Will that interfere with my Siemens Gigaset 2.4GHz wireless home telephone system?
john  Nov 12, 2016
1 answer
A
The 2.4GHz range is commonly used with other household electronics (such as cordless/wireless phones) which can create interference if too many are installed in one home or area. However, both Klipsch and MartinLogan specially designed their wireless subwoofer transmitters & receivers to reduce any potential interference or "cross-talk" with other household electronics; so I wouldn't expect any issues to arise with your Siemens phone system. I hope that helps!
