Features

Overview: The Mackie MTEST-1 is a versatile cable tester that can be used to verify continuity on just about any type of cable, even one with different connectors on each end. It's powered by a 9 volt battery (not included) and its heavy-duty build quality makes it a durable, road-worthy tool.

Connections: Each side of the tester has female jacks for the most common types of cable ends. One end of the cable in question will plug into a left side input jack while the other end gets plugged into the right output side of the tester. The XLR connection has both male and female sockets available. If you have a cable that needs to be tested and doesn't have one of the provided connector ends, a pair of testing probes are included for testing any type of non-active circuit. Since its common for cables to have two different ends on them (eg. 1/4" TRS to XLR), the MTEST-1 can automatically detect which input and output jacks are being used. The following connection sockets are provided:

  • 1/4" TS/TRS
  • 1/8" TS/TRS
  • MIDI
  • RCA/Phono
  • XLR
  • Speakon
  • Banana

Note: The MTEST-1 cannot be used to test cables with phantom power on them.

Indicators: Two rows of 5 LEDs illuminate to show which input pins are connected to which output pins and a 6-way knob is used to switch between each pin selection. A ground LED is provided to indicate whether the corresponding contact and chassis are properly grounded or indicate that there's a short circuit from the pin to the shell. A Battery Check LED will illuminate brightly to indicate the 9V battery is good and will dim as the battery charge decreases.
