Add-On Bluetooth Music Receiver: The AudioEngine B1 add-on Bluetooth music receiver enables wireless connection of your Bluetooth-enabled devices (such as your Apple iPod/iPhone/iPad, Android smartphone/tablet, Blackberry, Windows PC, Mac computer, etc.) to your home entertainment system. Now, you will be able to listen to music files and music apps from your Bluetooth-enabled devices on your home stereo system (your home system must have a free stereo analog RCA input or optical digital input).

Bluetooth Version 4.0: The AudioEngine B1 add-on Bluetooth music receiver features Bluetooth 4.0 with A2DP support, which allows you to wirelessly stream audio (including stored music and music apps) from your Bluetooth-enabled device to your home entertainment system. You will continue to control your music and view song/artist information from your Bluetooth-enabled device.

Note: Due to the differences in Bluetooth technology, some Bluetooth enabled devices may be incompatible, function improperly, or may not support all features when used with the AudioEngine B1 add-on Bluetooth music receiver .

aptX Compatible: The AudioEngine B1 add-on Bluetooth music receiver supports aptX audio coding, which is featured on a growing number of Android mobile devices as well as MacBooks and Apple desktop computers. aptX allows audio to be broadcast wirelessly in significantly higher quality than over standard Bluetooth. The aptX codec achieves a 4:1 compression ratio, allowing for near-CD quality listening  (16-bit/44.1kHz). You'll instantly notice more extensive dynamic range, deeper bass, and crystal-clear top end.

Note: The Bluetooth B1 also includes support for other codecs like SBC, MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, and AAC.

24-bit Upsampling DAC: The B1 features high signal-to-noise ratio due to the inclusion of a 24-bit high-performance upsampling DAC (AKM AK4396).

Extended Range: The B1 also has special circuitry and a precision-tuned antenna to extend the wireless range (up to 100'), providing much more versatility than other Bluetooth receivers.

Analog & Digital Outputs: The AudioEngine B1 is fitted with both a stereo RCA analog output and a optical (toslink) digital output to connect to your home AV receiver or integrated amplifier.

LED Indicator: The B1 Bluetooth receiver features a single LED to indicate operation status. If it's on and solid, this means the B1 is powered on and currently connected to a Bluetooth enabled device. If it's on and blinking, this means the B1 is powered on but not currently connected to a device. If it's off (and plugged into power), this means the B1 is powered off (standby) and not connected to a device.

Power Requirements: The AudioEngine B1 add-on Bluetooth music receiver operates off of standard household current using the included external AC power supply or can be powered from a 5V USB port on back of your home receiver (cable included).

Note: The B1 automatically powers down and mutes the output after approximately 10 minutes. The BT input, however, is still active so you can just pair to it again without pressing the front-panel button. B1 will remain on if a device is paired with it and turned on though.

The pairing process is as follows. I turn on Bluetooth, for example on my smartphone, and "Audioengine B1" appears in a list of paired devices. I select it and the phone is connected immediately. The process is very consistent and nearly instantaneous but there is no provision that I can see to name the receiver and apply a password. [ Glenn  Sep 24, 2018 ]
If I remember right you just press the button and then it shows up on your phone [ STEVE  Sep 24, 2018 ]
Andrew I have this device connected to a NAD 388. The pairing process happens by depressingi the white light button on the front of the Audioengine and release and it should blink. This pairing mode. Check your phone, tablet or computer and Audioengine should appear in the Bluetooth section. Select the device to pair when it appears and the device should show as connected. The Audioengine hasn't shown me a password.Hope that helps [ John  Sep 24, 2018 ]
It should be, as it connects via two standard RCA phono plugs; I have it connected directly to my Rega Elex-R amplifier (along with my Denon 3910, which I use only for audio/SACD), and it works beautifully. [ Christopher  Jul 23, 2018 ]
As long as you have an available rca input. Yes it will work. [ JEFREY  Jul 23, 2018 ]
Absolutely it's compatible. As long as you have a spare audio input (aux, tape, etc) or a spare digital input (optical). Just run the cable from the Audioengine B1 to your receiver's input and you're ready to go. [ Christopher  Jul 22, 2018 ]
Your receiver seems to be a 5.1 system, which means five separate audio channels plus subwoofer. The Audioengine B-1 is stereo, which means two channels: right and left. You could use it with your receiver but you will not get five-channel surround sound, you will get two-channel stereo. [ Glenn  Jul 22, 2018 ]
Yes it is I hook mine up to almost anything using rca connection, it sounds great. [ Douglas  Jul 22, 2018 ]
Hi Thomas. The audioengine B1 is compatible in that it will work with your Denon. I use it with a JVC from the 1990s. But it is just a stereo Bluetooth device. It works the same just like a stereo cassette or FM stereo broadcast would work with your receiver. By itself the audio engine does not have any multiple Channel, or special encoding,. It's just stereo and your receiver will distributed amongst the five speakers anyway that it chooses to. As far as THX goes, I don't know the answer. [ Alann  Jul 22, 2018 ] would just use any available audio input. [ Dale  Jul 22, 2018 ]
Hi, I am not sure I understand your question. The Audioengine B1 is connected to the input such as AUX on your receiver. It needs to receive a Bluetooth signal from a source. For example I use my iPad to get programming from the internet. The Audioengine then picks up what I have chosen and feeds it to the receiver. Your Bluetooth headphones would link directly to the iPad. I do not think the Audioengine would be involved. [ JOHN  Mar 29, 2018 ]
Not really sure if it works in reverse like that [ STEVE  Mar 26, 2018 ]
I don't think so. This device is a receiver, not a transmitter. It's purpose is to connect, via bluetooth, a source of music, such as your smartphone or a tablet, to your hifi system. [ Glenn  Mar 25, 2018 ]
I do not know, but I think not. The audioengine B1 is a Bluetooth receiver , not transmitter . Your wireless Bluetooth headphones should have a receiver built into it to receive signals from your smartphone or whatever. If you instruct your smartphone to connect to your wireless headphones you should be able to hear Pandora Etc music . The audioengine B1 is also a receiver and when you instruct your smartphone to connect to it it receives the Pandora music and plugs it into your vintage receiver by way of RCA pin plug cables , so you can hear it on speakers . If you plug ordinary headphones into your receiver you can hear the music through those headphones. To get music from your vintage receiver to your Bluetooth headphones I think you need a audio to digital converter that also transmits Bluetooth and hook that to your receiver. Hope this helps. I do not own Bluetooth headphones so I cannot test for you. [ Alann  Mar 17, 2018 ]
This is a receive only device - we use it with a Mp3 player (iPod, iPhone, Samsung phone) sending a Bluetooth audio file to a amplifier input is how I use it. It does work great we get over 75 feet distance to our built in home stereo speaker system. [ Cliff  Oct 16, 2017 ]
No, I have never observed any latency. [ Wayde  Oct 07, 2017 ]
No unit works perfectly. [ Ramon  Oct 06, 2017 ]
No I have not experienced any. Unit works great with good range. Improved sound as well. [ FAREN  Oct 06, 2017 ]
No - I have not noticed any. [ Frank  Oct 06, 2017 ]
Yes, unfortunately, there is. You will notice a difference between video on computer and audio. But, if you're just looking to connect to a good set of older speakers and don't care about syncing with laptop (i.e., video), then it works great. Good luck. [ Scott  Oct 06, 2017 ]
None [ ROBERT  Oct 06, 2017 ]
Yes. The Bluetooth receiver will provide any audio from your connected Bluetooth device to the inputs of your home sound system. I hope that helps. My Bio: [ Ryan  Sep 09, 2017 ]  Staff
I don't see why not as I've connected to it via computer, tablet, and Oppo Find 7A phone. [ Jude  Nov 25, 2016 ]
I would think so, it works perfectly with my iPhone and MacBook [ michael  Nov 25, 2016 ]
No [ WALTER  Oct 17, 2016 ]
yes [ JAMIE  Oct 17, 2016 ]
This unit is designed for home use, and I don't know of anyone using one in a vehicle. Technically it should be possible, but you will still need to provide power to the unit. You might be better off to take a look at these car Bluetooth adapters here: [ Jeff  May 29, 2015 ]  Staff
According to Audioengine's web site's Q&A: What if my source doesn't support aptX®? Can I still use B1 and if so, how will it sound? You can absolutely still use the B1, and it will sound great. aptX® is a high quality Bluetooth audio codec that works really well. With that said, in addition to mandatory support for SBC, Bluetooth also includes optional support for many other codecs, like MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, and AAC, all of which have their own advantages, and some of which sound very close to aptX®. With that said, there is a good chance that your audio data will be transmitted to the B1 without getting encoded to SBC. Unfortunately, I don't know how it can be verified. [ dashrendar  Jun 03, 2015 ]
We have not received any answers from other customers on your question. I would recommend reaching out to an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. They should be able to help answer your question. [ Krissy  Sep 16, 2014 ]  Staff
