Silk tweeter delivers smooth highs

The C2-650X 6-1/2" speakers feature rugged polypropylene cones that can handle high power without distortion, so you get full-bodied low tones you can really feel. The 3/4" silk dome tweeters serve up smooth-sounding high frequencies that won't tax your ears, adding a satisfying dose of realism to your soundstage. Built-in crossovers make sure your tunes play smoothly across the whole musical spectrum. JL Audio includes a pair of grilles for custom installations.

Features

Woofers: The JL Audio Evolution C2-650x coaxial speakers feature injection-molded, mica-filled polypropylene woofer cones with a butyl rubber surround. Each woofer has a 1" voice coil on a Kapton Former, a symmetrical roll spider and a Ferrite magnet.

Tweeters: Each coaxial speaker features a ¾" silk dome, ferrofluid-cooled tweeter with a damping neodymium magnet. The edge-driven silk dome tweeter is smooth, detailed (on or off axis), and provides great overall performance. Silk is lightweight and great for high frequency extension and efficiency. It is also designed for durability in the extreme automotive environment.

Size Classification Note: Some manufacturers, including JL Audio, call this size speaker a 6½". Because it requires a larger cutout than a standard 6½" speaker, Crutchfield has traditionally referred to this size as 6¾". Please enter your vehicle information to confirm fit.

Grilles: Front-loading protective grilles are included, with black steel mesh and satin silver accents. Electroformed logo nameplates can be positioned on the grilles or elsewhere in the vehicle, according to the needs of the installation.

Power Handling: JL Audio publishes several power specifications for this speaker, 60 watts continuous power handling (RMS), 225 watts peak music power, and 15-100 watts recommended amplifier power (RMS). We've listed the conservative combination of 15-60 watts RMS in the specs table.

do i have to use an amp?

It would generally not be necessary to use an aftermarket amplifier with these speakers. However, using an aftermarket amplifier helps to provide better sound with most any aftermarket speaker. Also, in some situations, and aftermarket amplifier may be necessary due to other factors, such as vehicle speaker compatibility. These are small, full range speakers, not subwoofers. A multi channel amp around 75 watts will do the trick.

Depending on where you want to install them and the version of the system in your Tahoe, it could be just a cutout diameter issue, mounting height issue, or just not enough room where the speaker mounts. I put these in my 2007 DTS and they sound weak. My stock ones are much louder and have way more bass. I have to have the radio up all the way just to get them to have any power going to them. AT half volume my stock ones where much much louder and this is with non-Bose system. What is up with that I mean the JL magnet is 3x the size of the stock paper ones but sounds much worse,.What gives?

Hi, thank you for your question. While these speakers do have a high sensitivity rating, and can be powered with a factory head unit, they will be best paired with an amplifier. Adding an amp will give you more power, which will in turn result in fuller sound at lower volume levels, and allow the speaker to function more efficiently. These speakers are not a very bass-heavy speaker, but adding an amp will open their abilities, and provide you with a more dynamic sound quality and more precise frequency. Without an amplifier any speaker designed for higher watt load is going to be lower volume than the stock speaker. You're not supplying enough power to move the larger magnet as far as the tiny one can move with the same power.

Installed this in my 2015 Tacoma in the front and back doors. The difference is night and day from the highs to surprisingly impressive lows. I will say I paired with a Sony XAV-AX100 head unit which gave it some new life also but would highly recommend these jl's, they're the next best thing without upgrading to components and an amp. What front door speakers will be compatible with the 2014 Mazda3 GT (Bose System)? I've been reading a lot online saying it's very specific and difficult to swap the front door speakers in the setup, but my front left one is rattling like crazy. Any help would be much appreciated! Thank you.

This question is always subjective at best and really hinges off on how and what one hears. I have installed two pairs of these, one in my 2016 Silverado and one pair in my 2014 Indian Chieftan, and without fail I do hear a difference. The clarity at all volume levels is cleaner than my factory speakers and on the bike, the point at which the speakers distort is higher. Bass, while not as strong as some would like is solid, but where they excel is in the highs which are not as "tinny" sounding as in the factory speakers. Prior to these, I always opted for Infinity Kappas or Polk Audio but once I listened to these I was sold. They have now become my go-to speaker and amp of choice. Hope that helps.

I Think there is always an improvement with aftermarket speakers over stock in any of the applications I have installed. I installed an Alpine amp with these speakers and it sounds great; much better then stock

What kind of bracket is it? What's the size?

All plastic one size fits all bracket. Two sets of spots to screw in speakers depending on which size you get. What I didn't like was for the smaller size it had metal clips to screw through to reinforce the holes but for the larger size there were slots instead of holes and no metal reinforcements for them. Seemed not the best but was free. I plan to reinforce the screws more with some epoxy next time I open my doors to put in dynamat.

Hi! I'm not really sure what you are asking. I will be glad to help. What bracket are you referring to? And the what size are you referring to? I out these in a jeep wrangler and used the existing holes and made new ones. Maybe a little more custom than you might want to do. Ask me anything and I will try to answe the best way I know how!
