Mac: We're here in the Crutchfield studio to tell you about the new Kenwood DNX9140 navigation receiver.

Zak: This is Kenwood's flagship receiver and it really shows. It stands out not just because of all the things it can do but in how well it does them.

Mac: Yep. Let's start with the touchscreen interface. The 9140 has a high-resolution VGA monitor. With outstanding details and clarity, it's probably better than my TV. And it also has seven positions for the best viewing angle in your dash and menus are all very easy to navigate &151; most things are right where you think they should be. One of the big features that the 9140 brings to your dash is voice controls.

Zak: Yeah voice commands are great. You can use them to select your source, use the Bluetooth® calling features, run the navigation, even control audio search and playback.

Mac: It comes with an external microphone that you can mount on your sun visor.

Zak: And you activate voice commands by this handy button which you can also mount anywhere within reach.

Mac: Kenwood uses Garmin's navigation software. It includes dependable maps and over six million points of interest. And the fast processor calculates your route quickly.

Zak: You can also use the voice controls to enter your destination — either points of interest or addresses.

Zak: Where to. Points of interest.

DNX9140: Search by category or place name.

Zak: Category.

DNX9140: Select a search category.

Zak: Shopping.

DNX9140: Select a sub-category.

Zak: Page down. Home furnishings.

DNX9140: Searching for home furnishings. Select a line number.

Zak: Three. Go.

Mac: The Kenwood 9140 offers full control of you iPod. Now you need an extra adapter, but once you have that it's gonna work with all your newer iPods and iPhones. You can even use the voice commands to find your music.

DNX9140: Please select a source.

Zak: iPod.

DNX9140: Please select a line number.

Zak: Now as with navigation, Kenwood turned to a big name when it comes to Bluetooth — Parrot. This is a full-featured Bluetooth package. Depending on what your phone can do, you can make and receive calls, stream audio, download your entire phonebook into the stereo. And Kenwood has a great thing called Privacy Mode that lets you switch from talking on the Bluetooth to the handset with just the touch of a button.

Mac: The DNX9140 gives you room to build your in-car AV network. This includes lots of connections.

Zak: Now with any car stereo the real question is "What good would all these features be if the music doesn't sound good?"

Mac: Remember this is Kenwood's top of the line stereo and comes loaded with excellent sound features.

Zak: And of course that starts off with a premium 24-bit digital-to-analog converter. It gives you great sound from all your music sources.

Mac: It includes a sophisticated digital signal processor which provides you with some great sound shaping tools. It lets you get as tweaky as you could ever want to be.

Zak: And these tools are easy to access and easy to use thanks to the touchscreen interface. You can optimize the sound based on the type of vehicle you have, based on speaker sizes and speaker location, and you can even adjust the volume of each speaker individually. And it's got very flexible high- and low-pass filters for tuning the speakers just the way you want them. And yes there's an equalizer too. It's a 13-band equalizer and you can choose from several presets or create your own setting.

Mac: If you listen to a lot of compressed music files, be sure to turn on a feature called SRS WOW HD. This helps compensate for file compression and for the limitation of smaller speakers.

Zak: Now Mac and I could go on all day about what this stereo has to offer. It really is one of the most feature-packed car stereos that we carry.

Mac: You can check it out on our website at crutchfield.com/dnx9140.
