The R165X3 adds a piezo supertweeter for extra detail.

Better components give you more detail

Each 6-1/2" speaker sports a stiff polypropylene woofer cone that delivers strong drums and bass, along with clean reproduction of the midrange frequencies. The silk dome tweeter and piezo supertweeter add the excitement of strong high-frequency response to your music without a trace of harshness. Klippel Analysis: By using a state-of-the-art Klippel Distortion Analyzer, Rockford Fosgate engineers can optimize the speaker's motor structure, voice coil alignment, and suspension for the best possible performance and the lowest distortion.

Mounting: While Rockford Fosgate calls the R165X3 a 6-1/2" speaker, its required cutout will not allow it to fit in standard 6-1/2" applications. It does easily replace what we describe as 6-3/4" speakers. Please enter your vehicle information to confirm fit.

Q
Is these plug and play for a 2003 tundra? If not what is needed?
chey  Feb 20, 2024
1 answer
A
We do not offer any plug-and-play solutions for any vehicle, Chey. The Rockford Fosgate Prime R165X3 speakers do show a fit in the front and rear doors of 2003 Access Cabs, and a fit in the front doors of 2003 regular cab Tundra trucks. We provide the free Metra 72-8104 speaker harness below with the purchase of your speakers. Make sure to use our online Vehicle Guide on the website to pair the free harness with your speaker order and see other compatible parts and upgrades that work with your specific truck! https://www.crutchfield.com/p_120728104/Metra-72-8104-Speaker-Wiring-Harnesses.html

Will these be a direct swap for my 2002 gmc sierra 2500hd lower door speakers?
daniel  Feb 12, 2024

Greetings Daniel. Aftermarket speakers need mounting adapters, and wire harness' to plug them in. Somewhat direct as long as you have the adapters. Purchased thru us we include those at no additional cost for the 2002 Sierra.

Q
Will they need a crossover to remove the bass, or can they handle the full range signal without much distortion? Installing on a 45x4 head unit
christopher  Jun 26, 2023
1 answer
A
A crossover would not be necessary in most cases. If you're using a powerful amplifier, you may consider setting a high-pass filter set around 50 Hz, or perhaps around 80 Hz if you're using a subwoofer in the system.
zachary  Jun 26, 2023 (Staff)
Q
Will these be a direct fit/plug n play in my 2005 Silverado crew cab 1500 front door speakers?
mason  Jun 08, 2023
1 answer
A
These will fit your truck's front doors, but they will not be plug-and-play, so to speak. You will need to drill new screw holes for this speaker as they are too large for the bracket we carry for your doors. We do have a harness to handle the wire connections, though.

Q
Will these fit a 2015 mazda6 that uses a factory bose sound system? As the oe speakers are not 6 1/2
omar  Apr 26, 2023
1 answer
A
These can be used in your 2015 Mazda6 with the use of adapter brackets. There are other considerations regarding speaker impedance if you plan to continue using the factory amplifier to power your new speakers. Please reach out to our advisors via online chat or phone at 1-800-324-9695.

Will these fit a 2019 nissan navara ?
jake's  Mar 05, 2023
1 answer
A
Greetings Jake, and thank you for your question. We are not going to be able to research the Navara, but the U.S. version would be the Frontier. The Rockford Fosgate R165x3 can fit the rear of the 2019 Frontier crew cab.

Q
It says they won't fit an '04 Tacoma but my doors take a 6 1/2 in h speaker. Why would they not fit?
chris  Feb 19, 2023
1 answer
A
During our deconstruction and research of the 2004 Tacoma, we found that the factory speaker size was 6" x 8". Our website recommends either 6" x 8" speakers or 5-1/4" speakers with a bracket. For additional help with selecting speakers, please reach out to our advisors via online chat or phone at 1-800-324-9695.

Q
will these last decently long with lots of bass compared to the lifespan of my stock speakers for my 2006 Pontiac Vibe?
justin  Nov 28, 2022
1 answer
A
Greetings Justin, and thank you for your question. The Rockford line of speakers are manufactured much better than most all OEM factory speakers. Bass maybe not as good as the factory at first because they need to break in a bit, but they should at least give the same bass as your factory speakers after the break in period.

Q
do you make a wiring harness that hooks into the speaker wire plug for a chevy sonic 2014?
matt  Apr 28, 2022

A
It depends on which model you have and the speaker locations. When shopping for speakers you can check to see what fits your vehicle by using our Outfit My Car tool: http://www.crutchfield.com/car/carselector.aspx Just enter your vehicle information such as year/make/model. Sedan/Hatchback, 4 or 6 speaker factory system. You will be shown the needed items for installation. For additional details on fit or installation please contact an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. They will be able to pull up your vehicle and give you the details on if this will fit and what you will need for an installation in your vehicle.

Q
can they be wired for 2 ohm instead of 4? or maybe just bridge them?
matt  Apr 28, 2022
1 answer
A
The ohms of the speakers are not able to be changed from 4. If you design a system where two of these speakers will be connected to one amp channel, then it is possible to wire the two speakers in parallel to present the amp with a 2 ohm load. We have advisors that can be reached by calling 1-800-324-9695 who can help give you a personal recommendation on system

Q
So the Rockford-Fosgate-R165X3 brings the built in tweeters, now my question is should i invest in some new dash corners tweeters or the speakers one will work fine. is there such thing as too many tweeters?
brian  Aug 27, 2021
2 answers
A
I get plenty of high range sound with just the speakers as is. I would try the speakers alone first. If you need more of what you'd get from extra tweeters, you can add them later. Hope this helps.
christopher h  Sep 01, 2021
A
If possible, I would definitely get the additional tweeters for your dash or pillar. These sound great but are typically to low to get the full range of the built in tweeter. Plus if you don't plan on running separate amps to drive them, you'll wish you would have got those additional tweeters. Go ahead and get both sets! These are still a great upgrade especially if you're coming from stock! Good luck!

This says it fits my 2000 Camaro for the backseat side speakers, but the outside of the speaker isn't large enough to mate at all 4 holes. I was only able to get one screw at the top and one at the bottom. Is there a bracket that will adapt this to fit the hole?

Component speakers have separate tweeters and woofers along with a crossover filter. When the tweeters and woofers are mounted together in a single speaker (I.e. these rockfords you're asking about) these are non-component speakers.

Would I need a new wire harness for these speakers on a 2002 Acura rsx or would it plug right up to existing wires?
alex  Apr 13, 2020
1 answer
A
I bought four of these speakers. Original wires and terminals plugged right in with no changes. If I remember correctly, if different terminals were needed, they were supplied. These went in a 99 Oldsmobile Bravada. One for each door. Pretty simple install, you have to remove door skins inside, but instructions are provided. The performance of these speakers are fantastic! Unbelievable difference. I figured my next buy would be a new system. No way, original system sounds so good now, Crutchfield lost that sale because new speakers makes that much diff.!

Depending on how you want it to sound. Speakers start clipping when volume is loud. It wiill ruin speakers over time. An amp will help you achieve a better sound and filter out clipping.

These speakers will not fit in the front doors of your Santa Fe. Not all speaker locations have the same depth, and height measurements. these speakers require a cutout diameter that is too large for the front door location.

I have a 2004 Nissan Altima and I would like to know if these speakers are good for Voice?
keyshawn  May 07, 2019
1 answer
A
Bang for the buck... Definitely. If you power them with an amp they're pretty good mid-range too. However people have different interpretations of "voice". If you want something bright then infinity is better. Alpine is a good all around speaker. Polk's, Kicker, MA, are, to me, meh. Kenwoods and JBL's, again imo, sound best when they're amplified. Focals are pretty incredible if you're willing to pay the price; definitely need to amplify them. At the end of the day, it really is about personal preference. I've had people tell me that, widely agreed upon, trash speakers sound incredible. But usually anything is better than stock.

Can these be installed in the rear doors of a 2003 Toyota Rav-4 (with stock6-speaker system)? Second question, will they work with / fit behind the stock speaker grilles?
jason  Apr 26, 2019

A
They would be a very tight fit but should be able to squeeze behind the factory grills in that rear location. The 2-way Rockford Fosgate would actually be an easier fit https://bit.ly/2VapwrT

Q
I believe my 2001 Silverado already has a separate tweeter, what $40 speaker pair will fit and best for the $?
curt  Feb 12, 2019
1 answer
A
Factory tweeters, in most vehicles, are not a standard size and require custom work to replace with aftermarket tweeters in the same stock mounts. The good news is; most aftermarket component style speakers do come with an assortment of tweeter mounting brackets you can use to custom mount them. I have a 2009 acadia . Your website says these will fit the front doors. Will I need any additional accessories or adapters to buy or will I receive all I need in my order once I purchase this set? I want to order a set for the rear door too. Will those come with everything I need for install? Years ago I remember ordering a new in dash radio and speakers with another vehicle I had and the radio and speakers came with all easy plug and play adapters and mounting plates for easy installation. Thanks!

These speakers can fit the front doors of the 2009 Acadia's. Depending on the system in yours, you might need a bracket to mount them which we send free with the speaker purchase should it be needed. These don't fit the rear doors. We have other speakers that can. I recommend contacting an advisor on 1-800-324-9695 to get a personal recommendation for those doors My bio: https://www.crutchfield.com/bio/Paul

Will they produce solid bass down to 100 Hz?

I will answer my own question since I bought and installed these. There is a definite drop off at 100Hz, but they will produce a decent amount of bass if you crank up the bass at the head unit. You could also set the crossover for your subwoofer at 100Hz to help out with the bass.

I don't know. I have two 12" Polk subs crossed over at 100 hz. I can say the transition is smooth though. I have both the RF Primes and JBL Clubs in 6.5" in different cars and the JBLs are much better. The JBLs are full range and have satisfying bass off deck power. They're 3ohm so will get more power from whatever source you're using.

I don't know anything about Toyota Camry but I have four of these speakers hooked up to a clarion mini amplifier 50x4 and it sounds great and that's in a Jeep Cherokee I recommend the speakers they should work with your stock radio but having an amp is always better
dan  May 22, 2018
A
You do not need an amp to run these speakers. They will provide clear sound with a factory stereo. An amp would be a nice addition to get the maximum volume while maintaining clarity with this model of speaker.
adam  May 22, 2018

These speakers will be a significant upgrade over factory and will work fine without an amplifier. They fill my Chevy Silverado crew cab with crisp sound. I am pleased and crutchfield will give you a great shopping experience.

Q
I have a 2002 Nissan frontier king cab - is any cutting required to install these?
mark  Jan 05, 2018
1 answer
A
They fit the rear speaker locations of my 1995 Sentra with no modifications. If your Frontier has a similar speaker (4 screw mounting), then they'd likely fit. If not, you can usually use an adapter plate to adapt the speakers to fit with no cutting. I had to use the adapters for my front door speaker locations because Nissan used an unusual 3-screw mounting hole pattern in the front doors. Crutchfield kindly included the adapters free of charge for my front speakers (I did have to enlongate the mounting holes in the adapters, however, because of that unusual mounting pattern).

Q
Are these 6.75" speakers? The Rockford Fosgate website says they're 6.5" and how does that affect fit for a 2015 honda accord LX?
arpit  Jan 22, 2017

A
Thanks for your question. The installation will be the same whether you purchased 6.5 or 6.75. You will still need the mounting bracket, so no difference in fit. I've attached the link below for the speaker bracket which will be included with your purchase at no additional charge. Hope this helps. https://www.crutchfield.com/p_003HSB524/American-International-HSB524-Speaker-Mounting-Brackets.html?osp=003hsb524&tp=2824
