Add a blast of bass

JBL's GT-BassPro12 powered subwoofer adds a blast of bass to your vehicle so you can really feel your music's impact as you drive. JBL designed this bass system to shine in the car environment, tuning it for tight, responsive low notes.

Powerful bass from a 12" sub

The GT-BassPro12 enclosure features a JBL 12" sub that really brings the thunder with its polypropylene cone and hi-roll rubber surround. The built-in 150-watt amplifier is matched up perfectly to the sub, so it won't wimp out when it's time to rock. Use an amp wiring kit (not included) to power up the GT-BassPro12, and you've turned your car into a concert hall.

Unique port for compact design

The enclosure features JBL's unique Slipstream port, which offers shorter length with a wide-mouth opening that reduces port noise and distortion. This means that JBL can build a more compact enclosure, and still get great performance from this hard-hitting sub. The medium-density fiberboard construction offers strength and durability under extreme conditions, while the carpet covering and stylish metal grille help protect your investment.

Features

Amplifier: The power output from the built-in amplifier is 150 watts RMS (450 watts max). The amplifier is counter sunk into the back panel of the enclosure (the heat sink fins protrude approximately 3/8").

Note: Neither speaker wire, RCA interconnects, nor amplifier wiring kit (power/ground/turn-on wires) are included.

Signal Input: The amplifier has both speaker level (harness) and line level (RCA) inputs. The input sensitivity range is 50mV-4V for the line inputs and 400mV-16V for the speaker inputs.

Crossover: The amplifier's low pass crossover point is continuously variable from 40 to 200 Hz; the crossover slope is 12 dB/octave.

Bass Boost: The bass boost circuit provides a variable (0-12 dB) signal boost centered at 45 Hz.

Status LEDs: There are two status indicator LEDs on the amplifier. A green LED lights to indicate the amplifier is turned on and operating normally. A red LED lights to indicate the amplifier's protection circuitry has been activated. The protection circuit activates and the amplifier shuts down when the input voltage (power) is too high or too low, when the amp overheats, and when there is a short between the amp and subwoofer.

Dimensions:

  • Width: 22-1/2"
  • Height: 14-5/8"
  • Depth (bottom): 12" (the grille adds approximately 2-1/8", for a total of 14-1/8")
  • Depth (top): 9-1/8"

Remote Level Control: The included remote level control lets you adjust the output level of the amplifier from the front of the vehicle. It can be mounted under the dash, in the glove compartment, etc, and has the following dimensions:

  • Width: 1.625" (2.55" including the mounting flanges)
  • Height: 0.775"
  • Depth: 1.525" (2.028" including the knob and cable)

Controls:

  • Auto Turn-On: two position switch; on/off; when using the speaker level inputs the amplifier will turn on automatically when it senses an input signal
  • Phase: two position switch; 0° or 180°; the sub's phase can be easily inverted
  • Crossover Frequency: rotary knob; set the low pass crossover point; continuously variable from 40 Hz to 200 Hz
  • Bass Boost: rotary knob; continuously variable from 0 to +12 dB
  • Level: rotary knob; continuously variable from 50mV-4V (line level) or 400mV-16V (speaker level)

Connections:

  • Remote Bass: RJ-25 jack for use with the included remote bass level control
  • Fuse: a single 25 amp ATO style fuse protects the amplifier
  • Line Input: stereo RCA jacks (female)
  • Speaker Input: 4-pin plug for use with the included harness
  • Power Input: screw terminals for power, ground, and remote turn-on; each will accept spade terminals up to 0.325" wide (approximate)

Q
If my stock stereo doesn't have RCA outputs can I just tap into the rear speakers and connect them to the sub without a line output converter?
nicolino  Oct 08, 2020
2 answers
A
Ni Nico, thank you for your question. The JBL GT-BassPro12 powered subwoofer has been discontinued, but the subwoofer is capable of being connected to your factory stereo system via speaker level connection. Please feel free to chat with an Advisor online or by phone at 1-800-324-9695. We will be happy to go over the products you will need in order to complete your installation.

Yes, that is how mine is

Q
Is it possible to use just one of the included remote level control knobs to control two of these?
aaron  Sep 05, 2020
2 answers
A
I'm not entirely sure but I am thinking probably not because each of these has a different amp considering they come built already. If it was just one amp and two subs then I would say yes, but since there will be two separate amps I don't think it will be possible to use just one RLC.
albert j.  Sep 06, 2020
A
It is possible, it's just that you will have to tie the remote wires for both together at the output side. That being said, I haven't tried it before so it may or may not comprise the functionality of the remote.
andrew  Sep 06, 2020

Will this work with a 2017 Ford Escape sync 3? I want bass again but I want to keep the factory head unit. (Apple car play/navi/Sirius xm)

I don't have your car or head unit, but I had it installed by a professional shop using my factory Toyota head unit. My advice, if you are getting it installed, talk to the installer first.

This sub is amazing. I have a stock hesd unit in my Vw passat '13 and i could not be happier. Dont hesitate. Go ahead and make your music life better with this sub you will not regret it

Q
Can I replace the sub in this unit without having to replace the whole thing? Mine is blown and don't really want to replace the whole box.
alex  Dec 06, 2019
1 answer
A
You could but you would need to know the ohms of the amplifier. That information is not readily available to my knowledge. You can test the ohms with a multimeter. You would also want a low wattage subwoofer because the amp only supplies 150 watts RMS which is very low for a 12 inch sub.

Will a 8 gauge wiring kit work?

Absolutely. I ran mine with 8 gauge. Works fine. Had to use a really short ground wire though, and change the ground point.

Q
Is 10 gauge wire and 30amp fuse good for install on this sub?
douglas  Mar 24, 2018
2 answers
A
Hey Doug, The JBL install manual calls for at least 12 awg In mine used 8 awg with 30a, so 10 should suffice. Good Luck and an excellent choice for a sub , mine is coupled with a sony hi power 100x4 with memphis doors x4 it is a very extremely loud super clean system.

Q
How easy would it be to install this into a 2016 Honda Civic?
eternal  Oct 28, 2016
2 answers
A
It's basically like installing an amp- all speaker connections are already connected. You would need to run a power line from the battery, A ground line to the closest place you can screw it down to, and a remote line to either your aftermarket radio or ignition. Plus either RCA cable from your aftermarket radio or Run the input from your back speakers using the built in inline converter. you can always call crutchfield support to help you too!

very easy install. sounds great!

Q
Can i hook up 2 of these at the same time?
lee  Sep 07, 2015
3 answers
A
To be honest you could, But you would need double the wires like, Power Ground Audio and Remote wires. You might blow a fuse or something worse. Better off with one amp and a dual sub box. I will say this you don't need two of them if you just want more bass out of your system. This package sounds fantastic! I can't believe how good it sounds and its pretty deep too.
john  Sep 08, 2015
A
I guess you could if you run big enough wire from the battery. These don't pull that much power. The question is, do you have enough space for two of these?
george  Sep 08, 2015
A
I think you probably could. You would have to find a way to split the power cable from the battery, remote turn on wire, ground cable, and RCA input line from the head unit so that both subs picked up a signal. Nothing someone couldn't handle if they have extra speaker wire and some basic electrical/soldering skills.

Rob takes 5 minutes to disconnect
james  Sep 01, 2015
A
It does have fairly easy disconnects for the power, ground, and audio but I don't know if it would be considered a quick process. It will take 5 minutes or so to reconnect. Also this is a decent size subwoofer to move around.
byron c  Aug 26, 2015
A
Autumn, removing your Sub couldn't be easier. All the wires in the back of the speaker are quick connects. They pull off, then push back on. It's obvious where they connect, but you might want to mark their places with tape and a marker.
frank  Aug 26, 2015
A
Yes, the sub can be removed fairly simply by disconnecting a few wires. I'd recommend plastic wire covers to prevent the power and ground connections from touching anything and blowing the fuse.
hakeem  Aug 26, 2015
A
It doesn't have a "quick disconnect" so you would have to undo some wires. Other that that its fairly simple to remove.
mark  Aug 26, 2015
A
It's pretty much self contained. The amp connections use a Phillips screw driver, I'd probably recommend putting some type of end on the wiring instead of just the bare wire like my set up, if it's coming In and out often the wire ends will get pretty frayed. But yes, takes about 60 seconds to undo the 3 wire connections and lift it out of car

Q
Can this unit be used laying on its backside, speaker pointed up, due to space confinement, or must it be sitting upright?
robert  Dec 21, 2014
7 answers
A
It has to be sitting upright due to the fact that the amp is built into the back.it'll kink the wires laying on its back.you could probably build a little platform to sit it up off the wires if you have the room.
aaron  Jan 11, 2015
A
Hi Robert, I think it can be used on its backside facing up. However the cords come out of the back so you have to find a way not to crimp or ruin the cords if you lie it on its back. I'm almost positive you can position sub woofers in any direction, but experiment because you will get different sounds. Also, if you have a smaller car, a smaller sub will actually give you bigger sound because of the way bass waves travel.
natasha  Dec 30, 2014
A
It can't lay on its back with the sub facing straight up. On the back is the connections and heat sync for the amp sticks out some.
byron c  Dec 22, 2014
A
The amplifier is on the back of the box so it would be laying on the wires.. but I'm sure you could if that wouldn't bother you. . Sub sounds very nice for price point too.. installer was impressed ..
christopher  Dec 21, 2014
A
I am using it sitting upright. I never tried it laying on its backside. I had an audio place connect for me and that is how they installed it. I diva a Tahoe with no 3rd row seats.
edward s.  Dec 21, 2014
A
I would not recommend placing this unit on it's backside due to all of the cables being located in the back and thus not allowing it to lay flat.
nicholas  Dec 21, 2014
A
You could if you wanted but the amp and all your hook ups are on my way the back.

Worked well in our setup. Was installed in a jetta and ran the wiring all the way to the trunk. Blew the amp fuse a couple times but never the link in the power wire from the battery. And amp fuse was most likely just a tune /volume fault of ours, at 18 years old "it's all about that bass "

Install the sub facing the back towards the trunk. That way you pretty much make your whole trunk a huge box.

jamil.s  Dec 01, 2014

it depends if you have preamp outputs. if you don't then you will have to buy the line to signal converter. the only other thing you need is the wiring kit. You will LOVE the sound of this sub, especially if it is in the open. chris
chris  Jan 13, 2014
A
Just the wiring. Choose what size gauge wire you want or wire kit you prefer and that is it. You tap in to the left and right side of speakers, find a good ground and connect battery cable and you should be good to go.
