Our take on the Samsung BD-J5700 by Crutchfield's Jeff Miller
Looking for a streaming box? Consider this Blu-ray player
The BD-J5700 has a compact, curved design and packs a plethora of entertainment options.
These days I use Netflix® to catch movies and binge-watch TV shows more often than I pop in a physical disc. It's still great to have the Blu-ray option, though — and the killer picture and sound that goes with it. With the Samsung BD-J5700, you don't have to compromise.
When using the built-in Wi-Fi®, you have access to popular streaming video services like Netflix or Hulu®. Plus you can put in that cartoon DVD the kids always watch, or the sweet digitally restored Blu-ray version of your favorite flick.
Solid picture and sound for movies, shows, and music
The BD-J5700 helps make the most of your high-definition TV. It plays Blu-ray titles in 1080p HD and offers video upconversion for standard DVDs. You'll open up the capabilities of your home theater speakers as well — lossless surround sound formats are supported, including Dolby® TrueHD and DTS-HD®.

PCM Downsampling: This feature lets you choose to have 96kHz PCM signals downsampled to 48kHz before they are output to your AV receiver.
Downmixing Mode: This feature lets you select the multichannel downmix method that is compatible with your stereo receiver. You can choose to have the player downmix to normal stereo or to surround compatible stereo.

You can paus and restart, but if you pause then turn off the device, it does not know where to restart based on where you paused it. [ CATHY May 15, 2015 ]
Yes. [ carol May 14, 2015 ]
If you pause the movie, it will restart there, even if the player has been turned off. However, it is my understanding from other users, that, if you take the disk out, it will not remember. You need a more expensive model. [ Susan May 14, 2015 ]
Hi Bill, I really don't know the answer to your question. We have a bed and breakfast and the Samsung was one of two new TVs purchased for our B&B. I will say that a couple of our guests have commented on how nice the Samsung is but I only watched it briefly when hooking it up. It has a great picture. I will try to find a time to go in to that suite and check the function you asked about - if you want to ask the question again at a later date I will be happy to answer it then. Just to clarify - are you talking about when playing a DVD? [ BARBARA A May 14, 2015 ]
Bill, I don't know. I bought it because I thought there was a jack for a headset on the back. There wasn't, so I had to return it, unfortunate because I wasn't able to access its many possibilities without that one need of mine. If it were me with your question, I would call the advisors at Crutchfield. They were exceptionally helpful for me. James [ James May 14, 2015 ]
