Onkyo's versatile TX-NR807 boasts Lucasfilm Ltd.'s THX Select2 Plus certification for guaranteed home theater excellence. Seven channels of high-current power plus state-of-the-art surround decoding team up to deliver intense, hard-hitting sound for your movies, music, TV shows, and video games. Exclusive THX Plus listening modes keep your surround effects detailed and accurate, even at lower listening levels. And you get a host of other entertainment possibilities. If you have a PC network set up, this receiver can enhance the sound of all those entertainment options.

Easy access to PC music, Internet radio, and more
Connect the TX-NR807 to a wired PC network to access music files stored on your computer. You can view track titles on your TV and select the tunes you want to hear using the receiver's remote. You can also enjoy Internet Radio stations over your broadband connection. The 'NR807 is SIRIUS Radio ready, too — just hook up an optional home tuner to receive your favorite satellite radio channels. Or add Onkyo's HD Radio tuner to listen to the free digital over-the-air programming that many AM and FM stations now broadcast.

Add new dimensions to your surround sound experience
Along with the latest high-res surround decoding for Blu-ray soundtrack, the future-ready 'NR807 boasts Dolby® Pro Logic® IIz. This cool feature lets you add an optional pair of front "height" speakers for a larger soundstage with an expanded vertical dimension — a perfect complement to your video games and movies. And this receiver offers Audyssey DSX (Dynamic Surround Expansion). Like Dolby Pro Logic IIz, Audyssey's DSX processing allows you to add a pair of front height speakers — use them in place of back surrounds, or connect optional front "wide" speakers instead, creating an exceptionally broad soundstage for greater home theater impact and realism.

Flexible video connections and 1080p HDMI upconversion
This receiver's 1080p-compatible HDMI inputs let you connect up to 6 digital high-def sources for easy switching. And thanks to analog-to-HDMI conversion, you can pass all of the video sources in your system to your TV via a single HDMI cable. Plus, the 'NR807 can upconvert any non-HD video source, enhancing the picture quality of standard DVDs and older video sources viewed on your HDTV.

Precision auto setup tailors sound to your room
For the most accurate home theater sound possible, Onkyo included Audyssey MultEQ®, a sophisticated automatic speaker calibration system. The 'NR807 uses the included microphone to analyze sound from up to six different listening positions, then automatically adjusts level, equalization, and delay settings for each of your speakers. You get precise response across a wide listening area instead of just a single "sweet spot," so everyone in the room can enjoy optimized home theater sound.

THX Loudness Plus: THX Loudness Plus is a new volume control technology featured in THX Ultra2 Plus and THX Select2 Plus certified receivers. With THX Loudness Plus, home theater audiences can experience the rich details in a surround mix at any volume level. THX Loudness Plus compensates for the tonal and spatial shifts that occur when the volume is reduced by intelligently adjusting ambient surround channel levels and frequency response. The THX Loudness Plus feature is automatically applied when listening in any THX listening mode.

Dolby Pro Logic II & IIx Music Modes: While listening in the Dolby Pro Logic II or IIx Music format, there are three further enhancements you can adjust:

  • Panorama: Broadens the front stereo image to the surround speakers to provide a wraparound effect, especially effective when there is limited output from the surround channels, panorama can be turned on/off in the menu.
  • Dimension: Allows you to move the sound field forward or backward.
  • Center Width: Allows you to adjust the width of the center channel.

Center Image: In the DTS Neo:6 Music mode, the Center Image feature adjusts the output of the left and right channels relative to the center channel, allowing you to make the center channel more or less dominant as needed. This improves the image of the center channel, especially when the listener is off-center. Adjustment varies from 5 (nothing subtracted from the L/R channels) to 0 (L/R channel output is cut in half).

Audyssey MultEQ: MultEQ detects speakers, and then sets levels, delays and crossovers, as well as measuring room acoustics. Using the receiver interface, it takes up to 6 measurements around the listening area and uses high-resolution equalization filters for satellites and subwoofers. MultEQ covers both frequency response and time domain (where most of the problems lie) across the entire listening area. The results are immediately obvious - a clear, well-balanced and natural sound. With the supplied speaker setup microphone, Audyssey MultEQ can measure the number of speakers connected, their sizes, crossover frequencies, and distances from the listening position and calculate the optimal speaker settings for you automatically. The supplied microphone has a 19-3/4' cable that plugs into the front of the receiver. There is a threaded insert on the bottom of the microphone so it can be mounted on a tripod for accurate listening position placement. If you wish to setup the speakers manually, you can follow the procedure for Speaker Configuration.

  • Speaker Configuration: You can set up the receiver's speaker configuration from 2.1, 3.1, 4.1, 5.1, 6.1, 7.1, 8.1, 9.1, 10.1, or 11.1 channel.
  • Subwoofer Setup: You can select whether or not you will be connecting a powered subwoofer to this receiver and the low-pass crossover point for the subwoofer - 80Hz, 90Hz, 100Hz or 120Hz. You can set the level of the LFE channel individually for Dolby Digital, DTS and multichannel PCM sources.
  • Speaker Crossover: This receiver has a built-in high-pass crossover for each speaker in the system. This setting is available when the subwoofer is set to Yes. The frequencies that you can choose from are 40, 50, 60,70, 80, 90, 100, 120, 150, 200 Hz or Full Range. Frequencies lower than the set crossover point are output by the subwoofer.
  • Speaker Distance: The distance from your listening position to each speaker can also be set manually. The front speaker distance can be set from 1 to 30 feet in 1-foot increments. The center and subwoofer settings can be up to 5 feet more or 5 feet less than the distance you set for the front speakers (30 feet max). The settings for the surround left, surround right, surround back left, and surround back right speakers are each individually adjustable, and they may be up to 5 feet more or 15 feet less than the distance you set for the front speakers (30 feet max).
  • Equalizer: You can adjust the receivers 5-band equalizer (63, 250, 1000, 4000, and 16000 Hz) for each speaker manually from -6 to +6dB in 1dB increments. The subwoofer's level can be adjusted at 25Hz, 40Hz, 63Hz, 100Hz, or 160Hz.
  • Speaker Levels: You can manually adjust the level of individual speakers between -12dB and +12dB; -15dB to +12dB for the subwoofer.

Bass And Treble: You can independently adjust the Bass (50Hz) and Treble (20kHz) of the TX-NR807 from -10 to +10 dB.

Double Bass: You can enhance the bass output by activating the Double Bass function. This function allows you to feed bass frequencies to the front left and right channels and to the subwoofer. Double Bass can be set only when the subwoofer is set to On and the front speakers are set to Large.

Audyssey Dynamic EQ: Audyssey Dynamic EQ solves the problem of deteriorating sound quality as volume is decreased by taking into account human perception and room acoustics. Dynamic EQ selects the best possible frequency response and surround levels moment-by-moment as volume is changed. The result is bass response, tonal balance and surround impression that remain constant despite changes in volume. Audyssey Dynamic EQ combines information from incoming source levels with actual output sound levels in the room, a prerequisite for delivering a loudness correction solution. Audyssey Dynamic EQ works in tandem with Audyssey (2EQ, MultEQ, MultEQ XT) to provide well-balanced sound for every listener at any volume level.

Audyssey Dynamic Volume: Audyssey Dynamic Volume solves the problem of large variations in volume level between television programs, commercials, and between the soft and loud passages of movies. dynamic Volume looks at the preferred volume setting by the user and them monitors how the volume of program material is being perceived by listeners in real time to decide whether and adjustment is needed. Whenever necessary, Dynamic Volume makes the necessary rapid or gradual adjustments to maintain the desired playback volume level while optimizing the dynamic range. Audyssey Dynamic EQ is integrated into Dynamic Volume, so that as the playback volume is adjusted automatically, the perceived bass response, tonal balance, surround impression, and dialogue clarity remain the same whether watching movies, flipping between televisions channels, or changing from stereo to surround sound content.

Dynamic Reference Level: Movies are mixed in rooms calibrated for film reference. To achieve the same reference level in a home theater system, each speaker level must be adjusted so that -30dBFS band-limited (500Hz to 200Hz) pink noise produces 75dB sound pressure level at the listening position. When automatically calibrated by Audyssey MultEQ, the Onkyo AV receiver will play at reference level when the master volume control is set to the 0 dB position. At that level you can hear the mix as the mixers heard it. Audyssey Dynamic EQ is referenced to the standard film mix level. It makes adjustments to maintain the reference response and surround envelopment when the volume is turned down from 0 dB. However, film reference level is not always used in music or other non-film content. The Dynamic EQ Reference Level Offset provides three offsets from the film level reference (5dB, 10dB, and 15dB) that can be selected when the mix level of the content is not within the standard.

Re-Equalization Circuitry: Re-EQ (re-equalization) corrects a soundtrack with high frequency response that's too harsh, compensating for the fact that sound mixed for large theaters may sound too bright when played back through speakers in the home environment. This can be set to either On or Off.

Music Optimizer: The Music Optimizer function enhances the sound quality of compressed music files. The Music Optimizer function only works with PCM digital audio input signals with a sampling rate below 48kHz and analog input signals.

Late Night Feature: The Late Night feature limits the dynamic range of Dolby Digital recordings. Limiting the dynamic range makes it easier to find a volume that ensures the quiet sounds are not too quiet and the loud sounds are not too loud for night time listening. This allows you to comfortably listen to without the need to constantly adjust the volume to keep from waking family/neighbors. The choices are: Off, Low, and High.

Note: This feature only works with Dolby Digital encoded software and the depth of the feature will vary based on the individual software package.

Audio/Video Sync: Occasionally the audio and video signals are not properly synchronized, typically when using a progressive scanning DVD player. You can correct this by delaying the audio; options are 0 (no delay) to 250 milliseconds, in 5 millisecond steps.

IntelliVolume: With IntelliVolume, you can set the input level for each input selector individually from -12 to +12 dB in 1 dB increments.

Multi-Zone: The TX-NR807 features the following Zone 2 and Zone 3 connections so you can listen to one input source in your main room and a different audio source in two other rooms.

  • Line Out: By using the Zone 2 and/or Zone 3 line-level preamp outputs on the TX-NR807 you can connect an external receiver or integrated amplifier in a second and third room, allowing you to listen to 7.1 surround in the main room and play a different audio source in two other rooms of your home. The volume of Zone 2 and Zone 3 are controlled by your optional integrated amp.
  • Speaker Out: By using the Zone 2 and/or Zone 3 speaker-level outputs on the TX-NR807 you can directly connect a secondary pair of speakers in another room of your home, allowing you to listen to either 5.1ch or 3.1ch surround sound in your main room and play a different audio source in one other room of your home. The volume of Zone 2 and Zone 3 is controlled by the TX-NR807 receiver.

Bi-Amping Front Speakers: The Front L/R and Surround Back L/R-Zone 2 L/R speaker terminal posts can be used with front speakers, surround back speakers, or Zone 2 speakers respectively, or bi-amped to provide separate tweeter and woofer feeds for the front speaker, providing improved bass and treble performance. When bi-amping the front speakers with the Surround Back L/R-Zone 2 L/R outputs, the AV receiver is able to drive up to 5.1 speakers in the main room. You will need use the Zone 2 preamp output to connect speakers in another room.

Assignable Digital Inputs: The Onkyo receiver is equipped with three optical digital inputs (2 rear/1 front) and three coaxial digital inputs. All six digital inputs are assignable.

Binding Post Speaker Outputs: The TX-NR807 utilizes color-coded binding post connectors for all of its speaker channels. The binding posts are not 5-way because a plastic collar prevents their use with spade lugs.

Preamp Outputs: The Onkyo TX-NR807 features 7.2ch preamp output for connecting an external power amplifier.

Sleep Function: From the remote, you can set the unit to automatically turn off after as much as 90 minutes or as little as 10 minutes; choices are presented in 10 minute increments.

Video Features

HDMI (V.1.3a):The TX-NR807 has six assignable HDMI v1.3a inputs and one HDMI v1.3a output for connecting DVD players, HDTV set-top boxes, and other video components to your TV or projector. The receiver's HDMI circuitry allows the receiver to output an HDMI audio signal from its speaker outputs, headphone out, and HDMI out so you don't have to run and additional analog or digital cable. The HDMI inputs will support uncompressed standard or high definition digital video along with the following audio signals: 2-channel linear PCM (32-192kHz, 16/20/24bit), Multichannel linear PCM (up to 7.1ch, 32-192kHz, 16/20/24-bit), and Bitstream (DSD, Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby TrueHD, DTS, DTS-HD High Resolution Audio, DTS-HD Master Audio). The receiver uses HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection), so only HDCP-compatible components can display the picture. The HDMI inputs can accept and switch 480i, 480p, 720p, 1080i, and 1080p signals to a TV, monitor, or projector.  Each of the HDMI inputs can be assigned to any of the four rear panel A/V inputs (DVD, VCR/DVR, CBL/SAT, TV/Tape). The HDMI inputs are also compatible with DVI, so TVs and displays with a DVI input can be connected by using an HDMI-to-DVI adapter cable, along with audio cables.

Upconversion With Upscaling: The Onkyo TX-NR807 will convert incoming analog composite video, S-video, and component video signals to HDMI so you can connect all your video sources through the receiver and then to your TV via HDMI to give you the best picture quality possible. Using Faroudja DCDi Edge Technology, the receiver has the ability to upscale incoming analog and digital video signals up to 1080p. You can specify the output resolution for the receiver's HDMI output and have the AV receiver upconvert  and upscale the picture resolution as necessary to match the resolution supported by your television. You can select from 480p, 720p, 1080i, 1080p, Auto, or Through.

Zoom Mode: This setting determines the aspect ratio that will be used for 480, 480p, 576i, and 576p input signals when they are output via HDMI at 1080i or 720p. You can select from Normal or Full.

xvColor: Increases detail and color space when watching movies on your television from an external device connected by HDMI through the TX-NR807. This unit also supports Deep Color.

Auto Lip Sync: The Lip Sync function can automatically synchronize HDMI audio and video that has gotten out of sync due to the complex digital video processing being performed by your HDMI-compatible TV. With HDMI Lip Sync, the audio delay required to synchronize the audio and video is calculated and applied automatically by the AV receiver.

Component Video: There are 2 component video inputs and 1 component video output. The component video inputs and outputs have a bandwidth of 5Hz to 50MHz. The receiver offers component video upscaling up to 1080i.

Video Adjustments: Using the AV receiver's video adjustments, you can adjust the picture quality of the receiver's monitor output and reduce any noise appearing on your connected television display. You can adjust the following video settings.

  • Picture Setting: You can select Game Mode (On/Off) or Zoom Mode (Normal/Full/Zoom/Wide Zoom).
  • Picture Mode: You can select Video, 3:2, 2:2, or Auto.
  • Picture Quality: You can adjust the following video settings for the receiver's video monitor outputs - Edge Enhancement, Noise Reduction, Brightness, Contrast, Hue, and Saturation.

On-Screen Display (OSD): The TX-NR807's on-screen setup menu appears on your connected TV and provides a convenient way to change the AV receiver's various settings using the supplied remote control. The onscreen setup menu appears only on TV connected to the receiver via HDMI. If your TV is connected to the composite video output or the Component Video output, use the TX-NR807's front-panel LCD display when changing settings.

Name Edit: You can enter a custom name of each individual input mode and radio preset for easy identification. Once entered, the custom name will appear on the unit's display.

Display Dimmer: The display brightness has three settings; Dim, Dimmer, and Normal.

Network Ready

Network-Ready: The Onkyo TX-NR807 AV receiver is "network-ready", which means you can hook it up to your home network with a standard Ethernet cable and enjoy the music files stored on your computer or media server. If your network is connected to the Internet, you can also enjoy Internet radio.

Ethernet Connection (LAN): The AV receiver's Ethernet (RJ-45) port supports 10Base-T. For best results, a 100Base-TX switched Ethernet network is recommended. Use a shielded Ethernet cable (straight-type) to connect the AV receiver to your home network.

Note: Although it is possible to play music on a computer that is connected to the network wirelessly, payback may be unreliable, so a wired connect is recommended.

vTuner Internet Radio: The Onkyo TX-NR807 offers the full vTuner Internet Radio Service when connected to your home network so you can access Internet Radio stations such as Pandora and Rhapsody.  Once you have connected the TX-NR807 to the Internet, you can select vTuner Internet Radio to search for and play Internet radio stations and podcast at any time. To enhance your Internet radio experience, the portal is available to you as an easy way to browse to find stations, set up/organize your favorites, add your own stations, and get help. You can preset up to 40 Internet radio stations.

Note: To receive Internet radio, your Ethernet network must have Internet access. A narrowband Internet connection (56K modem, ISDN) will not provide satisfactory results, so a broadband connection is strongly recommended (cable modem, xDSL modem). Internet URLs in the following formats are supported: PLS, M3U, and podcast (RSS). However, depending on the type of data or audio format used by the Internet radio station, you may not be able to listen to some stations.
