Cambridge Audio Minx C46
Our take on the Cambridge Audio Minx C46 by Crutchfield's Dave Bar
The Minx C46's tiny size makes it easy to mount discreetly almost anywhere.
Clear sound from a discreet source
Cambridge Audio created the Minx C46 for people who love great sound but not the clutter of speakers. With a mere 3" mounting diameter, these in-ceiling mighty-mites make a virtually invisible choice for enjoying open, natural sound for music listening, as well as clear movie dialogue and special effects when used as part of a 5.1 surround sound system. Their small size also makes them quick and easy to install, and the grilles can be painted to blend seamlessly into your home. Be sure to add one of Cambridge Audio's powered subwoofers for true, full-range sound with room-filling bass.
Cambridge Audio's BMR (Balanced Mode Radiator) disperses sound over a wide area for a more enveloping listening experience.
Engineered with passion
Based on the highly regarded Minx Min 11 satellite speakers, Cambridge Audio engineers carefully designed the Minx C46 at their London facility to deliver refined sound. These speakers rewrite the rulebook of what's possible from miniature in-ceiling speakers thanks to BMR (Balanced Mode Radiator) technology. BMR drivers use a flat speaker surface that combines the traditional "pistonic" movement of speaker cones with a "bending-wave" movement to create sound. It's what allows the Minx C46 to cover a much wider frequency range than comparably sized speakers. You'll also experience much broader sound dispersion across your entire room, for a more enveloping listening experience. Plus, the speaker's compact, integral metal enclosure provides consistent performance wherever you mount them while reducing sound leakage into adjacent rooms.

BMR (Balanced Mode Radiator) Technology: The Cambridge Audio Minx C46 in-ceiling speaker features a single 2.25" BMR (Balanced Mode Radiator) driver. The Cambridge Audio BMR driver utilizes patented 'bending wave' principles normally seen in advanced flat-panel speakers, combined with piston-movement (backwards and forwards) like in a traditional speaker design. This type of design provides the Minx in-ceiling speaker with a much wider frequency response and deeper and more powerful bass frequencies, plus incredibly spacious sound. The BMR driver design also adds value by delivering a much broader sound dispersion across the entire room, avoiding the typical "sweet spot" pitfall, for a more enveloping sound.
- Rubber Surround: The 2.25" BMR (Balanced Mode Radiator) driver employs a rubber surround for added durability and excursion.
- Neodymium Magnets: The BMR driver utilizes ultra-compact push-pull neodymium magnets for greater efficiency.
IP65 Certified: Fully tested to IP65, the Minx C46 in-ceiling speaker is suitable for high humidity and dusty environments. Its IP65 rating ensures that no dust or water can pass-through and a fitted gasket swells under exposure to heat to block smoke.
Magnetic Grille: The Minx C46 includes a magnetic mesh metal grille that is paintable.
Spring-Clip Speaker Terminals: The Cambridge Audio Minx C46 in-ceiling speaker is fitted with spring-clip speakers terminals to attach your in-wall speaker. The spring-clip terminals will accept bare wire (up to 16AWG) and pin-connectors.
Mounting Options: The Minx C46 in-ceiling speaker requires a cut-out of 3" in diameter and mounting depth 3.75" of depth. Two spring-loaded mounting clips (one on either side of the Minx C46) secures the speaker in the ceiling. The Minx C46 in-ceiling speaker will fit into a standard 3" ceiling spotlight mounting hole.
Applications: The Cambridge Audio Minx C46 in-ceiling speaker is incredibly versatile and can be used as a virtually invisible surround speaker solution as part of a Minx 5.1 system, installed around your home to bring music discreetly to every room, or used in arrays in a commercial environment to provide an even spread of sound.

Why did you buy this?
I chose to use this product instead of other similar ceiling speakers because of the size. I did not want a large 6" or 8" speaker cluttering the ceiling. This seems like a more elegant solution without sacrificing sound quality. [ Paul Dec 07, 2017 ]
Small size, wide dispersion. I used to use minx front speakers (bought from Crutchfield) and liked them. I dont expect much from rears, except good ambient disperse sound. These will mount in my new house without taking up ceiling space. They are wife friendly. [ Greg Nov 10, 2017 ]
Adding as surround to my 7.1 system. [ David Dec 22, 2016 ]

I used this for a ceiling install. It is really small and easy to install. Use a 3" hole saw and you will have a perfect fit. I don't see why you could not use this in a wall. I do not recall its depth. Check that out and the depth of your wall cavity to make sure there is enough room. [ Dennis Oct 04, 2018 ]
I purchased two of these and installed them in the ceiling. They were simple to install and work and sound great! I would imagine they could work for a wall mount? [ ZANE Oct 04, 2018 ]
Fully tested to IP65, the Cambridge Audio Minx C46 in-ceiling speaker is suitable for high humidity and dusty environments. Its IP65 rating ensures that no dust or water can pass-through; so it should work just fine as a bathroom/shower speaker. Hope that helps! :) [ Larry Nov 12, 2017 ] Staff
Yes I installed them in a bathroom that's approximately 8 x 8. Very easy to install but you have to turn the bass up to the max setting. They can sound a little "empty". [ Jeff Oct 17, 2017 ]
Depends on how damp it is going to be...I love the speakers. I use them as surround speakers in my family room. [ DENNIS Oct 17, 2017 ]
I do not believe these are rated for "exterior" use (just for the humidity factor you may get in bathrooms). That being said, I have had a set of speakers in my bathroom (not these in particular) that are not exterior rated for 3-4 years now and they still work great. I also believe that these would hold up better than run of the mill in-ceiling speakers because the entire back is enclosed. Just keep in mind, you won't get much of a bass response out of these. But they are incredibly clear and powerful for how small they are. [ Brian Oct 17, 2017 ]
