Bose® Virtually Invisible® 791II
Our take on the Bose® Virtually Invisible® 791II by Crutchfield's Eric Angevine
A 7" woofer and two strategically-placed 1" tweeters help each Bose® Virtually Invisible® speaker fill your room with clear, accurate sound.
Bose's best in-ceiling speakers yet
If you're like me, you want a little bass oomph when you listen to movies and music, but you don't necessarily want large, floor-standing speakers cluttering up your living room. Bose calls these in-ceiling speakers Virtually Invisible because they're designed to blend into any decor. You can enjoy crisp music, sound effects, and dialogue from hidden speakers. Each Bose® Virtually Invisible® 791II speaker has a 7" woofer to handle the low notes, and two strategically positioned 1" tweeters to direct the all-important mids and highs to your ears. Exclusive Bose Stereo Everywhere design provides balanced stereo sound over a wider area, with no drop-offs.
The speakers are easy to install in your walls, and they come with a pair of round grilles that attach magnetically. The grilles and grille frames are finished in white, but are paintable to match your decor.

Virtually Invisible In-Ceiling Speakers: The Bose Virtually Invisible 791 II in-ceiling speakers are engineered with one 7" woofer and two strategically positioned 1" tweeters each, eliminating the need to aim the speaker into the room. The acoustic design allows for full, even sound coverage, while their smaller size increases placement options. Exclusive Bose "Stereo Everywhere" speaker performance provides balanced stereo sound over a wider area, with no drop-offs.
Stereo Everywhere Speaker Performance: "Stereo Everywhere" speaker performance produces balanced stereo sound over a wide area, unlike conventional home audio speakers that radiate sound mostly in a single direction. Bose "Stereo Everywhere" speaker performance delivers sound evenly throughout the listening area for balanced stereo sound wherever you listen, not just in one sweet-spot.
Drivers: The combination of two 1" dome tweeters and a 7" high-excursion woofer provides spacious stereo sound for your favorite music. You will also enjoy the deep low notes of dramatic movie sound effects. This makes 791 II speakers ideal for a rear-channel option in a home theater setup. The tweeters are strategically positioned to eliminate the need to aim the speakers into the room.
- 7" Woofer: A 7" high-excursion woofer delivers deeper low notes for more dramatic movie sound effects and musical richness.
- Dual Angled 1" Tweeters: Two strategically positioned 1" tweeters (array configuration) in each speaker eliminate the need to "aim" the speakers into the room. This lets you arrange your room with greater freedom.
Spring-Post Terminals: The Bose Virtually Invisible 791 II in-ceiling speaker use spring-post terminals to connect your speaker wire (18-14AWG).
In-Ceiling Installation: The Bose Virtually Invisible 791 II in-ceiling speakers offer simplified installation with only four clamp screws that secure each 791 II speaker to your drywall. The 791 II-series speakers also feature an infinite baffle design that uses the ceiling as the speaker enclosure. The infinite baffle design eliminates the need for a separate speaker enclosure, so it uses the space above the ceiling instead. Once you have positioned the speakers, just tighten the clamp screws and snap the magnetic grilles into place. The finished looked is unobtrusive, and almost invisible. You can even paint the speaker grilles to match your décor.
Note: Virtually Invisible 791 II speakers are designed for in-ceiling installation only. Virtually Invisible 791 II speakers can only be installed in wood frame construction covered with wallboard made of gypsum, plaster and lath, paneling or similar construction.
Paintable Grilles: The ultra slim bezel is attached directly to the speaker grille, allowing them to be easily painted in one simple step and blend elegantly into the room. And with no cloth scrim, there's no worry of excess paint clumping or soaking in. Plus, magnets allow them to snap on and off quickly.
Cutout Template: Cutout templates are not included in the box, therefore, you will need to print a template from the manual linked from the Crutchfield website, or from Bose.com. You must make sure the template is printed at 100%, and not enlarged or reduced. The measurements on the template are expressed in millimeters, but a 1" scale is provided to make sure it is printed to scale.

Installation in a "new build / remodel" to a Rowe NGX jukebox and we normally use the Bose 301 speakers and after talking with your advisor Abe on one occasion and Parker on another we determined these were very similar in sound and a much cleaner install. Can't wait to hear the audio in this location. [ Kevin Jan 14, 2017 ]
5 questions already asked
1 answer I am looking for a sound system to install in the street: we would like to equip 1 and 1/2 block with wireless, commercial grade and wether proof speakers that would allow us to wirelessly connect to the band we book for festivals or to play our business pandora for community events. Is this the right system? [ Julie Jul 18, 2017 ]
The Crutchfield A/V Design Group will be best suited to help you with this: http://www.crutchfield.com/Institutional/diy.aspx This specially-trained group of advisors can go over what you have, what you want, and recommend the components & cabling you'll need to get the performance and capabilities you require in each location. I hope that helps! [ Kenny Jul 18, 2017 ] Staff
No, needs to be hardwired to an AMP. [ MITESH Mar 13, 2017 ]
Sorry I can't answer, I use 3pair of these for whole house system pushed by a Denon AVR [ michael Mar 13, 2017 ]
I Use the Denon AVR4100W at 125W per chanel I have 3 zones with 4 speakers in (1) large room and 2 sspeakers in another and then all can be run at once for whole house music, they are great and take all I can give them. Hope this helps [ michael Jan 06, 2017 ]
110 watts. 55 watts per channel. The 791's are being driven by a Sonos Connect Amp with Maximum output of 55 watts per channel. Great sound. [ Howard S. Jan 06, 2017 ]
I placed them in my garage ceiling. I can not turn them more than half way up and I was raised in the 70's [ Shelton Keith Jan 06, 2017 ]
No, you do not need a subwoofer when using these speakers, all you will need is the receiver and the cabling. Hope this helps. [ Michael Jul 26, 2016 ]
Not at all, they are great. They are in my garage and wow! [ Shelton Keith Jul 26, 2016 ]
I did not use them as surround speakers. You will probably want a sub if you are doing a surround system for watching movies. [ Scott Jul 25, 2016 ]
Bruce, I bought the same speakers and don't have a sub woofer. They work and sound great without. Hope that helps. [ GARRET Jul 25, 2016 ]
Bose does not publish the frequency range on them. [ Paul Nov 30, 2015 ] Staff
