Prepare to be surrounded

High–definition movie soundtracks demand a high–performance surround speaker, and we're confident the RP-250S from Klipsch's Reference Premier Series is up to the task. After all, Klipsch knows a thing or two about creating exciting cinema sound. You'll find their speakers in movie theaters around the world (and in the homes of thousands of our satisfied customers).

Each Klipsch RP-250S surround speaker features two 5-1/4" woofers and two horn tweeters angled apart from each other. This smart design spreads ambient surround effects over a wide area, for a diffuse soundfield that completely envelops your listening room. It also allows this speaker to deliver great Klipsch sound even if you place it in less-than-ideal locations. Use a pair (or two) as your rear speakers for a perfectly voice-matched accompaniment to an all-Klipsch Reference Premiere Series surround sound setup.

The Reference Premiere Series difference

Never one to rest on its laurels, Klipsch has been busy refining and improving its designs to create loudspeakers that blow the doors off of its loyal followers' expectations. The new Reference Premiere Series builds on the acoustics and technologies of Klipsch's classic Reference Series, with important enhancements that provide an even more intense listening experience.

Hybrid Horn technology for dynamic performance

Klipsch RP-250S surround speaker

With its Hybrid Tractrix horns and Cerametallic woofers, the RP-250S is built to effortlessly deliver clear, powerful Klipsch sound.

Horn technology is one of Klipsch's long-standing hallmarks. Flared openings in the speaker cabinet project sound waves toward your listening area and prevent them from simply spilling out in all directions. This design reduces reflections that can color the sound, and boosts dynamics and efficiency for powerful sound that remains crystal-clear at all volume levels.

Klipsch's newly designed Hybrid Tractrix® horn features a circular throat around an advanced titanium diaphragm tweeter that transitions into a square 90º x 90º mouth. This unique shape provides a cleaner, more efficient transition of sound waves into your listening space. Compared to previous Klipsch models, this horn design delivers a wider sweet spot with more precise placement of instruments and vocals. Even the horn material itself has been upgraded to molded silicone rubber that helps decrease resonance for smoother, warmer highs.

High-tech woofer design

The RP-250S's dual 5-1/4" Cerametallic™ woofers dish out smooth midrange and articulate, well-defined bass. Klipsch makes its cones out of specially treated aluminum that's strong yet lightweight, to dampen and prevent distortion. With the Reference Premiere Series, Klipsch also gave this woofer a newly developed titanium voice coil former that allows more linear movement for enhanced efficiency, lower distortion, and extended low frequency response.

Build a complete Klipsch system

Team a pair or two of RP-250S surrounds with other Klipsch Reference Premiere Series speakers to create a high-impact home theater system.

Product Research

Wide Dispersion Surround Technology (WDST): The Klipsch RP-250S delivers precise sonic detail through the careful positioning of two Tractrix Horn loaded titanium tweeters and two 5.25" woofers. By aligning the two horns at 90° with respect to each other, along with the two woofers, the RP-250S smoothly covers a 180° horizontal arc, allowing maximum placement flexibility. This unique Wide Dispersion Surround Technology delivers a new dimension of reality and convenience, and produces a smooth, seamless broad distribution of sound, which is the perfect vehicle for every surround format.

90° x 90° Hybrid Tractrix Horns: A redesigned Tractrix Horn utilizes a circular horn throat paired to a square horn mouth to further improve high-frequency response and extension, while enhancing imaging and dynamics. The compressed molded rubber construction adds high frequency damping to reduce harshness and improve detail. This creates the cleanest, most natural sound possible. These 90° x 90° Hybrid Tractrix Horns provide a wider sweet spot while maintaining controlled directivity of the sound.

LTS Tweeters: Behind each Tractrix Horn lies a 1" titanium tweeter with a linear travel suspension for open, natural, sound. The Linear Travel Suspension minimizes distortion for enhanced, detailed performance.

Cerametallic Woofers: The dual 5.25" woofers of the RP-250S surround loudspeaker feature Klipsch's distinctive, copper-colored Cerametallic material. Made with an anodized aluminum, this cone is strong and dent resistant. The anodizing process converts its inner and outer surfaces to ceramic. The outcome is a rigid cone with superb damping characteristics that will not flex or resonate at frequencies within the woofer's operating range The 5.25" woofers also employ a rubber surround for added durability.

Crossover Network: The Klipsch RP-250S surround speaker's crossover network is constructed using extremely high-quality components including top-of-the-line internal wiring, polyester film-type capacitors and an air-core inductor to ensure signal purity and proper driver integration. The speaker's enhanced crossover frequencies (1500Hz) offer smoother on-axis and off-axis integration.

Sealed MDF Enclosure: The Klipsch RP-250S employs an acoustic suspension enclosure for tight accurate bass. The speaker's rigid cabinet offers improved internal cross-bracing to minimize panel vibrations that can color sound.

Magnetic Grille: The surround loudspeaker features a removable magnetic low-diffraction grille which easily snaps into place over its polymer front baffle.

Binding Posts: The Klipsch Reference Premiere series RP-250S is equipped with sturdy binding posts to ensure a secure connection to many types of cable and connectors. The binding post terminals will accept banana plugs (single only), pin-connectors, spade-connectors, and bare wire.

Mounting Options: The Klipsch Reference Premiere series RP-250S offers flexibility when mounting the speaker.

  • Rubber Feet: The surround speaker comes supplied with four self-adhesive rubber feet so you can sit the speakers on a stand or shelf securely. The rubber feet add approximately 0.3125" to the height of the speaker.
  • Wall Mounting: The Klipsch surround speaker features a single keyhole slot on the back of the cabinet for wall-mounting the speaker without any additional wall-mount bracket (mounting screws not supplied).

Placement: The Klipsch Wide Dispersion Surround Technology surround speakers in a typical 5.1-channel system can be mounted to side or rear walls. It is recommended that the RSP-250S be mounted above the ear height of seated listeners (between 5'-7' above the floor).

Customer Q&A

Crutchfield asked
Why did you buy this?

I already have the rp-240 s [ HENRY Lavalle  Oct 12, 2018 ]
Replace my current non-Klipsch rear speakers to have a better match for the RF-7ii and RC-64 setup. More power, bi directional and these went on sale so I just had to get them. [ Jeffrey  Jul 08, 2018 ]
Wanted a Klipsch speaker set and this was included. [ MICHAEL  Jun 21, 2018 ]
I currently have a 5.1 Klipsch system that I have had for 15+ years and it still is absolutely incredible. My friends ask why I'm putting together another home theater system. My answer is that I want to have a new system before I retire and now is the time. These are to be the rear speakers coupled with the 140SA's for the Dolby Atmos effect. The front two are the RP280FA's with the Dolby Atmos built in. Four of those would have been overkill and another grand to boot. [ Charles  Mar 28, 2018 ]
Building my sourrond system with Klips [ Gary  Mar 22, 2018 ]
Can't wait to HEAR these!! [ Lori  Mar 19, 2018 ]
Will be a close match to my in ceiling Klipsch speakers I'm using for Atmos. [ eric  Feb 25, 2018 ]

new speakers of my living room suround system [ Steven  Jul 20, 2017 ]
I have a good pair of front speaskers, but now I need really good rear speakers. These seemed to fit the bill. [ DONALD WILLIAM  Jul 15, 2017 ]
I have 2 pair of these serving as both L/R surround and rear surround speakers. They do a wonderful job of defusing sound and filling the room as surround sound should. If I place my receiver in 7-channel "stereo" mode for music, these speakers have no problems handling 140w and putting out some serious volume. Highly recommended. [ JAMES D  Jul 11, 2017 ]
I currently have a Kipsch 3.1 system and wanted to complete the set. [ Tabitha  Jul 07, 2017 ]
excellent speakers [ RICHARD  Jun 21, 2017 ]
I have rp260 fronts a 450c center and am extremely satisfied. Im very excited at what these surrounds will add. [ Alex  Jun 14, 2017 ]
I have the RP-280F and the RP-450CA and they are just superb sounding speakers. I trust the RP-250S will be just as good at adding superior sound to my 7.2 surround sound system. 5 down, 4 more to go. [ Travis  Feb 17, 2017 ]
I have purchased other products by Klipsch and find them to be the best [ Eric  Feb 16, 2017 ]
Good sound [ James  Jan 23, 2017 ]
I have bought other Klipsch Reference Premier (250F & 450C) from your company last week. I want the size of the woofers to be all the same in all 5 speakers to get perfect tonal matching for my 5.1 surround sound system. [ Bernardo  Jan 06, 2017 ]

Kilpsch rocks!! [ Jason  Sep 04, 2016 ]
Long time fan of Klipsch speakers (since 1978). Posted reviews reinforced my bias for the brand. They also match my other Klipsh speakers. [ Lyle  Jul 17, 2016 ]
To match my (3) front Klipsch speakers I just purchased a few weeks ago from Crutchfield. [ Bryan  Jun 04, 2016 ]
upgrade [ JUAN CARLOS  May 28, 2016 ]
I've had a Klipsch Home Theatre for years and thought it was time to update it. [ Moe  Jan 20, 2016 ]
Upgrading my award winning home movie theater to Dolby Atmos. It started with a new Yamaha Receiver, that led to new Klipsch Dolby Atmos mains (with upfire top speakers built in). Wanting to match the voice of my mains, I upgraded the center speakers and the 4 surrounds. Once Klipsch took over the mains, the rest of the upgrades were a natural. [ Adam  Dec 27, 2015 ]

No holes on bottom, just surface mount on back of unit which slides down on large screw. [ MARK D  Aug 30, 2018 ]
There are no mounting hole in the bottom. . [ CHRISTOPHER J  Aug 29, 2018 ]
No, they do not have any holes on the bottom. [ Jason  Aug 28, 2018 ]
There are not mounting holes on the bottom. Only provisions from the factory are for wall mounting. [ Jeff &  Aug 28, 2018 ]
I use the 160 as my front and the 280 as my surround the sound is great. You might try it the otter way but I think the 160 sound would be overpowered. [ Richard  Jun 13, 2017 ]
Ryan - This is a question without a true definitive answer. Yes, you certainly could use the 160M and get by just fine. In my opinion though, the 250S would be a better choice and here is why: The 250S is configured to disperse the surround track in two directions to create an envelope that "surrounds you". The 250S is purpose built. I'm not sure if you have 2 surround in a 5 speaker setup or 4 in a 7 speaker setup. The point of the surround is to diffuse and surround. If wall mounting I'd lean even harder toward the 250S (its designed to do so). That's my two cents! [ Adam  Jun 13, 2017 ]
They have a keyhole mount, all you need is a good screw and a stud to put it in. They are heavy so I would make sure you have something to secure the screw into. [ Njh112  Nov 28, 2016 ]
The back of the speakers have a hanger that will fit over a screw head. If you are mounting on a flat surface use a wall anchor and screw. [ Lee  Nov 27, 2016 ]
They have slots on the back to use for mounting. They are pretty heavy so an anchor in a wall stud would be best but there wasn't one where I wanted to mount them so I used a heavy duty Sheetrock anchor. They have been up for over a year now without issue. [ DANIEL P  Nov 27, 2016 ]
Hi there. To wall mount these all that is required is one screw into a stud for each, or a drywall anchor and screw suitable for the weight. These were not difficult to mount at all. Hope that helps! Limited handyman skills are all you need. [ Adam  Nov 27, 2016 ]
I have mine with just a screw type drywall anchor. I just used a wide head screw and haven't had any problems. [ Jeffrey  Nov 27, 2016 ]
yes, these are awesome and have very good staging. [ Veronica  Jul 08, 2016 ]
I'm using my 250's as my rear surround speaker powered by a Denon 5200. I am all more than pleased with sound that is being produced by this speaker. [ Jose F.  Mar 10, 2016 ]
Hi Dennis. I use these speakers (4 of them) as side and rear surrounds in a 9 speaker + 2 subwoofer setup. When used as surrounds I would say absolutely yes, these speakers have adequate bass response. If used as stand alone bookshelf speakers in a 2 speaker setup Id say there are better selections including other Klipsch bookshelf speakers. I wasnt clear how you intend to use them from your question. Hope that helps! [ Adam  Mar 09, 2016 ]
Sorry I cannot really rate my RP-250S bass response effectively. Since they are used as High speakers for Immersive sound (Atmos, DTS:X, Auro-3D), I cannot isolate them to test only the base. They are rated at 58 Hz on the low end and I am pretty sure they achieve that. As ambience speakers, they sound spectacular. I can highly recommend them. Hope this helps. [ Donald  Mar 08, 2016 ]
I would say yes. They really compliment my current system. I feel they provide good bass. I'm happy with them. [ Eric  Mar 08, 2016 ]
I would look up the specs to determine low frequency response, but I have a caution for you if you intend to use these as main/front speakers, which is what it sounds like. These are intended to be surround speakers, and for that they are outstanding. In that application, low end bass extension is not as critical. Since these are not engineered to be front/main speakers, I would not expect them to be as effective as any other speaker designed to be a front/main speaker, like your Bose, which were engineered to be front speakers and to have correct sound stage/imaging. What I DO recommend is you consider the matching Klipsch bookshelf speakers in place of these, which I also have. Those have such a wide sound-field and broad sweet spot (and surprisingly good bass extension even when sitting on a shelf) that I think you would be very pleased. These are outstanding speakers. I believe you will hear things you never heard from your Bose speakers in terms of clarity, range and balance. [ John  Mar 08, 2016 ]
They do, but are you going to be using them as surrounds or just as a bookshelf speaker? If you are looking for great bookshelf speakers I would go with the new Klipsch RP-160M bookshelf speakers. The RP-250S speakers are designed for surround applications. [ DAVID T  Mar 08, 2016 ]
It's working good and very satified, thank you. [ EDDY  Mar 08, 2016 ]
Yes, Yes I was going to buy a new bass no need. [ MICHAEL  Mar 08, 2016 ]
I was acutally surprised with the RP-250S's range, but it depends on what's sent to them. I found that my Yamaha RXA-1040 receiver in 5.1 decodes and handles it, but when set to 'straight', I was surprised at their range. The biggest change I found was in the bi-directional sound field, rather than directional bookshelf speakers I had. [ William  Mar 08, 2016 ]
I would not mount them on a stand. They are designed to be mounted on the wall. [ DAVID T  Mar 08, 2016 ]
If you read the manual it clearly states that the surround speakers should be placed on the side walls five to seven feet from floor. Or one to three feet from your ears when sitting. [ rickyqueens, nyc  Jan 16, 2016 ]
Made a typo in that answer. Height of speakers should read 30inch. [ EDWARD  Dec 01, 2015 ]
I recently bought a pair of these and mounted them onto a pair of "Sanus Natural Foundation 20 inch Speaker Stands". Used "Blu-Tack Reusable Adhesive" to secure them to the platform. (both ordered from Amazon). Good height, well made and sturdy. [ EDWARD  Nov 29, 2015 ]
Wish I could help, I was lucky enough to be able to hang mine. Best of luck! Tom [ Thomas  Nov 29, 2015 ]
I mounted my speakers on the wall. [ Antonio  Nov 29, 2015 ]
2 speakers are $900. [ DAVID T  Mar 08, 2016 ]
When you read the description it clearly states (each) not pair. [ rickyqueens, nyc  Jan 16, 2016 ]
It's one speaker. [ DONALD  Sep 07, 2015 ]
These are sold as pair [ Warren C.  Sep 07, 2015 ]
It is only one surround speaker [ Juan  Sep 07, 2015 ]
They are priced each. [ Donald  Sep 07, 2015 ]
