What are the Spring Break Nationals?
Billed as "the world's most famous soundoff," the Spring Break Nationals is an annual car show extravaganza held in Daytona Beach, Florida during national university spring break week. Events include car audio competitions, bikini competitions, and live music.
Despite an ongoing war in Iraq and wet, stormy weather, the 17th Annual Spring Break Nationals drew large and enthusiastic crowds over the weekend of March 21-23. The unofficial opening of the national car stereo competition scene attracted more than 20,000 visitors to the Ocean Center on North Atlantic Avenue in the spring break capital of the southeast, Daytona Beach. Fans admired tricked-out rides from 300 competitors and strolled through over 100 booths set-up by many of the major car audio/video and custom car parts companies. IASCA, dB Drag, SLAP, MECA, and StreetGlow sponsored various SPL, SQL, customcar, and glow-off competitions over the course of the three-day event. Live music by the bands Villebillies, Plan of Man, and Tantric was provided courtesy of JVC. To see more pictures and information about Spring Break Nationals, click here.
Under the Crutchfield Tent
We were extremely proud to have Lloyd Ivey, Chairman and CEO of Mitek Corporation (brands include MTX and StreetWires), share his 2002 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible with us under the Crutchfield Tent. The Corvette is stocked with two 9500 Series 12" MTX subs that each weigh over 50 lbs. They are fed a healthy diet of 750 watts RMS each from the Thunder1501D mono amplifier.
