Hi. I'm Ken in the Crutchfield video studios. Today we're looking at two stereos from JVC, the KW-AVX720 and the KW-AVX820. They're similar stereos except for three important differences.

The KW-AVX820 adds a detachable faceplate for security, it has six-channel, 5-volt preamp outputs while the AVX720 only has three channels and they're 2.5-volts. And most importantly, Bluetooth® connectivity is built into the AVX820.

Everything I'm gonna talk about applies to both stereos and the three things I want to show you are:

First: How easy it is to use these stereos thanks to the touchscreen.

Second: How the iPod controls work. That's one of the features we get asked about the most.

Finally we'll look at how the Bluetooth feature works.

Let's start with the 7-inch LCD touchscreen display. You can adjust the display angle and brightness to get the best view in your dash and it dims when you turn on your headlights so it won't be too bright at night.

You can customize the appearance by selecting from four different background designs or twelve different colors and the touchscreen interface works really well. The menus all feel like they're in the right places and it's easy to make adjustments. For example, touch this rectangle to get access to some handy shortcuts; or to change tracks just touch and slide. To change volume, just spin it up.or spin it down just like twisting a knob. Want to adjust the 7-band EQ? Just tap here and here and there you go.

When it comes to listening to your tunes, these stereos make that easy too. You can connect a thumb drive or MP3 player to the USB input and control it from the display, and the same goes for your iPod®. Just plug it directly into the USB input.

The stereo's compatible with newer iPods including the iPod touch, but if you want to view video from your iPod or if you have an iPhone then you'll need the optional video interface but controlling it is just the same.

Hands-free calling is a great feature to have in a car, especially as more and more states outlaw normal cell phone use in the car. You answer calls by tapping the touchscreen plus you can set the stereo to answer or reject all incoming calls automatically. You make calls by using the touchscreen's keypad, selecting a phonebook entry, or selecting a number from your call history.

You can also stream music to the stereo from your phone or other Bluetooth capable audio device. Steven, our cameraman, loves this feature for listening to podcasts that he stores on his phone. And as I mentioned before, Bluetooth capability is built in to the KW-KVX820 but it's optional on the 720. The price of adding the Bluetooth module to the 720 almost pays for upgrading to the 820, so if you want Bluetooth you really should go ahead and get the 820.

Besides the USB input and CD/DVD playback, there's also an A/V input. That makes it easy for you to listen to your music or anything else you want to connect. These stereos each have a powerful internal amp and a 24-bit D-to-A converter so your music will sound its best. And I already mentioned the 7-band equalizer for fine tuning. If you're listening over factory speakers, turn on the amplifier gain control. It limits the amount of power sent to the speakers so the music stays clean.
