CD receiver with MP3/WMA playback
Our take on the Clarion DXZ275MP by Crutchfield's Ken Nail
Clarion's DXZ275MP CD receiver feels right when you use it, thanks to its thoughtful, user-friendly design. And it'll expand to cover some of the hottest new media.
This versatile receiver will play discs loaded with MP3 and WMA files, so you can enjoy hours of music on a single CD. You can add an optional adapter to control your iPod® with the DXZ275MP, while you check out track information on the display.
You can use the receiver's controls to run a Clarion satellite radio. The front-panel auxiliary input accepts audio from your portable music player, and an optional Bluetooth® adapter lets you take hands-free calls with your Bluetooth enabled cell phone.
The robust internal amp delivers stellar audio performance, and you can enhance the sound with the Z-Enhancer EQ's three preset tone curves and the Magna Bass EX bass boost. If you're building a bigger system, use the two sets of preamp outputs to connect outboard amplification.

CEA-2006 Compliant Amplifier: The Clarion DXZ275MP amplifier section is rated at 19 Watts RMS x 4 channels in 4 ohms at 1% THD+N with a 80 dBA signal-to-noise ratio.
MP3/WMA Playback: The unit can play MP3 and WMA files recorded onto CD-R and CD-RW discs using ISO9660 Level 1 or 2, Joliet, or Romeo formats. The player can recognize up to 8 hierarchical levels, up to 255 files per folder, and up to 510 total files. Bit rates for MP3 are 8-320 kbps, plus VBR (Variable Bit Rates). Bit rates for WMA are 48-192 kbps. This unit is compatible with, and will display MP3 and WMA ID3 tags.
Shooting Star DCP Design: In this design, all the frequently used controls are as close as possible to the driver for ease of operation. The organizing of the controls on the left side of the DCP allows for a large easy to read display. This enables you to see station or track information quickly and easily with minimal distraction from the road. Additionally, a precision rotary volume control knob is centrally located for optimum control from either the driver's or passenger side seat. The face-plate will detach and comes with a hard plastic carrying case for protection.
Display/Screen Saver: The DXZ275MP is equipped with a high visibility single line display with Screensaver function which is clearly visible from a wide range of viewing angles. Approximately thirty seconds after the last button press, a screen saver will activate. You can choose between a series of moving images or a customizable scrolling message of up to 30 characters. The screen saver can be deactivated at any time.
Title Text: You can enter titles up to 8 characters long into the unit's memory and have them displayed on the on the screen for CD, CD Changer, Radio stations and TV stations. The number of titles that can be entered for each mode are as follows.
- CD Mode: 50 titles
- TV Mode: 20 titles
- Radio Mode: 30 titles
- CD changer Mode: 100 titles
Z-Enhancer: The Z-Enhancer function features three types of sound tone effects stored in memory. You can choose from the following.
- B-Boost: Bass frequencies are emphasized from -3dB to +3dB
- Impact: Bass and Treble frequencies are emphasized from -3dB to +3db
- Excite: Bass and Treble frequencies emphasized from -3dB to +3dB and Mid frequencies de-emphasized
Note: When the Z-Enhancer feature is on, the bass and treble controls cannot be adjusted.
Bass and Treble: When not using the Z-Enhancer you can adjust the Bass (100Hz) and Treble (10kHz) independently from -7 to +7 (+/-14 dB).
Magna Bass EX (Extend): The Magna Bass EX feature provides an extra boost of bass when activated. Unlike conventional loudness features which boost the low frequency range at around 100Hz, the Magna Bass EX boosts the low- and center-range frequencies of about 50Hz. By focusing on the lower frequencies, the added bass impact won't distort or muffle the high frequencies.
Amp Canceller: If you choose to connect the receiver to external amplifiers, you can turn off the built-in amplifier for better sound quality.
Auto Store: Auto Store is a function for automatically storing up to 6 stations in sequential order in the provided preset bands. The receiver features 3 FM bands and 1 AM band; giving you a total of 18 FM bands and 6 AM bands.
Preset Scan: Preset Scan plays the stations stored in the preset memory momentarily. This function is useful when searching or a desired station in memory.
Instant Station Recall (ISR): You can store one radio station in Instant Station Recall (ISR) memory and recall it from any mode (except Power Off). Once the ISR station has been recalled, you cannot tune to another station without first disengaging the ISR function. You can, however, switch to another source.
2CH Output: The unit features a set of 1.8-Volt preamp outputs attached to the rear of the chassis with a 7.5" pigtail for use with an external amplifier.
Front Auxiliary: The CD player feature a 3.5mm stereo minijack input on the front panel to enable you to connect an external portable audio source such as an MP3 player. You can adjust the input sensitivity level of the AUX input from Low, Mid to High to match the output level of your portable audio device.
Disc-In-Play-Function: This feature allows you to turn the power to the unit "on" and start playing the disc automatically when the disc is inserted even if the unit is not powered up, as long as the ignition key is turned to the "on" or "acc" position.
Auto Reload: When a CD is ejected and left sticking out of the CD slot for 15 seconds, the unit automatically reloads the CD to protect if from damage.
Top Function: During CD playback, the Top function resets the CD player to the first track of the disc. If an MP3/WMA disc is playing, the top function resets the player to the first track of the currently playing folder.
Last Position Memory: If you turn off the unit while a disc is playing, it will resume playback at the stopping point when it is turned on again.
Illumination Dimmer: The receiver's display automatically dims to a preset brightness when the vehicle's headlights are turned on. The wiring harness includes an orange/white lead which should be connected to the vehicle's parking light circuit in order for the dimmer feature to operate.
Mounting: You can install the unit within 30-degrees of horizontal. When ISO-DIN mounting, you will need to use your vehicle radio's original factory ISO screws.
Optional Wireless Remote: The CD player is IR remote compatible and can be operated with the optional Clarion RCB-176-200 wireless remote control (part # 020RCB176).
OEM Remote Ready: The unit also features an OEM steering wheel remote control input on the rear of the unit to allow you to keep your vehicle's radio steering wheel remote controls and/or rear seat radio controls when used with the optional SWI-JACK interface adapter (part # 127SWIJACK, sold separately). The BLT370 gives you hands-free communication from your compatible Bluetooth cellular phone and wireless streaming audio from any Bluetooth compatible portable audio device.
iPod Ready: The DXZ275MP is compatible with Clarion's EA1276 CeNET iPod interface adapter (part # 020EA1276B, sold separately) which allows the unit to simulate the iPod features and functionality.
