Overview

Our take on the Grado eGrado

If you didn't know anything about Grado, a legendary brand with a serious following among audiophiles, you might mistake the eGrado for just another behind-the-neck, "street-style" headphone. True, these 'phones offer a convenient design that stays put when you're walking, commuting on the subway, or checking out some tunes mid-flight. But with their detail and definition, they'll give you a taste of the kind of performance that's to be found at the higher end of the headphone category, at a price that's decidedly in the affordable range.

Born in Brooklyn and built to perform

Each pair of eGrado headphones is made right in Brooklyn, New York where the Grado family has been building award-winning audio gear for more than 60 years. Like all Grado headphones, the eGrado uses a vented "open-air" earcup design with large, non-resonant air chambers for powerful, extended bass response and more open, spacious sound. Each driver features a high-quality copper voice coil to ensure smooth, dynamic performance with exceptionally low distortion. Drivers are also carefully matched to within 0.1 dB for enhanced stereo imaging and a wide soundstage.

Product Highlights:

  • portable on-ear design with padded earcups and behind-the-neck headband
  • open-air design for spacious, low-distortion sound
  • driver pairs matched to within 0.1 dB for better stereo imaging
  • frequency response: 20-20,000 Hz
  • sound pressure level (at 1mW): 101 dB
  • impedance: 32 ohms
  • cable with stereo mini plug
  • warranty: 1 year (does not include earpads)
  • Our 60-day money-back guarantee

What's in the Box:

  • On-ear headphones (blue) with attached 48" cable (right angle 3.5mm plug)

Excellent sound quality. They stay put when walking, running or bicycling. I am a bit concerned about the plastic band having an issue as you do have to stretch them apart over your head. As long as Grado stands behind the product I think they are a good value.

Q & A

Customer Q&A

Crutchfield asked
Why did you buy this?

I've purchased Grado products in the past because of the level of quality that they bring to the table. I purchased a pair of SR225e's a couple years ago and it broke my heart to see them go. Luckily I had purchased a pair of RS2e's to take their place when I sold the 225's. The eGrado's are for my wife. Grado headphones offer a high quality product that really deliver at all price points. For the money, you can't go wrong with anything out the of Grado lineup! [ Guest  Jun 23, 2018 ]
Yesterday, the neckband on my Sennheiser PMX 60 headphones snapped. Seems this style of on-ear, open headphone is getting harder to find. I'm trying the eGrado because of the Grado brand name, the price point and (hopefully) the high quality. [ Steve  Apr 25, 2018 ]
Heard the brand was great. Wanted something that I could walk/jog with an open back for situational awareness. [ S  Aug 02, 2017 ]
I have another set, my son "borrowed" it. I needed a new one. JIM [ JAMES M  Jul 11, 2017 ]
sound pressure will probably meet my needs for loud and clear sound - hearing impaired. [ Diane  Mar 25, 2017 ]
ear buds dont fit in my ears [ Cynthia  Feb 21, 2017 ]

Grado headphones are ALWAYS the best value for their price... and these are about the cheapest they make... so they're good for travel & the gym. [ Joseph  Aug 07, 2016 ]
I have owned traditional Grado home stereo headphones for years and have been waiting for a more portable on the ear version (with a shorter cord!). [ Paul  May 26, 2016 ]
I own a set of Grado SR80e headphones for home and home studio use--and love them. These seemed perfect for travel headphones that would still have the Grado sound. [ JAMES  Apr 29, 2016 ]
For my 5 yr old kid. [ Mario  Apr 11, 2016 ]
Great sound at this price point and they stay put better than other designs. [ James  Dec 05, 2015 ]

I have a 4 year old and a 6 year old, and they both love this headphones. These headphones are an open design witch i prefer to close one. [ Mario  Dec 07, 2017 ]
These are the best sounding lower priced headphones I have ever had. Way better than anything else in this price range. [ John  Dec 07, 2017 ]
FANTASTIC FOR KIDS or really anyone. They are hifi quality especially for the money. Both my young children love them AND THEY LAST LONGER than ear buds. Great for adults working out/sweating too! Not really designed for high end stereo's... [ keef  Dec 07, 2017 ]
Yes, better than a close one or in ear. [ Mario  Jul 12, 2017 ]
Yes, you can here background noise. It also depends on how loud you turn up the headphones. But I am very pleased with the sound these provide. [ Kyle  Jul 11, 2017 ]
yes you will be able to hear emergency vehicles. I love them for walking/running! [ keef  Jul 11, 2017 ]
The cord length is listed as 48 inches. [ Jeff  Oct 07, 2015 ]  Staff
Depending on what you are looking for - yes. The behind-the-neck design will help them stay on when getting jostled around (as it bound to happen on the subway). However, the open air design will not block out the outside world. In fact it is designed to let some of it in. If you are looking to block out noise, then around the ear or in-ear designs might be better. [ Jeff  May 08, 2015 ]  Staff
