A cool application with Sonos

"I installed this little DAC between my TV and my Sonos system — a pair of PLAY:5s and SUB that I've got in my main viewing room. It means I can use that 2.1-channel Sonos system for a big improvement in TV sound, as well as for music.

The PLAY:5s only have an analog input, so this converter was just what I needed. Now I can call up a YouTube concert on my TV's built-in smart app, and send that music all around the house to different Sonos players."
— Jim Ralston, Crutchfield editor

Note: not compatible with Dolby Digital® or DTS® sources. Please make sure your digital source can output PCM stereo audio signals.

Features

Digital-to-Analog Audio Converter: The Metra CS-DAC Digital-to-Analog Audio Converter is designed for either home or professional audio sources. It converts Coaxial/Toslink PCM digital audio signals to analog L/R audio for connection to an external device such as an amplifier via standard RCA-style jacks. The CS-DAC is small in size and easy to install.

Optical & Coaxial Digital Inputs: The Metra CS-DAC is fitted with one Optical (Toslink) digital input and one Coaxial (RCA) digital input. Both digital inputs support 24-bit S/PDIF 2ch PCM audio with sampling rates at 32, 44.1, 48, or 96kHz. This unit does not support Dolby Digital or DTS.

Note: If you try connecting both the Optical and Coaxial digital inputs, the CS-DAC will give priority to the Optical input.

Stereo Analog Outputs: The Metra CS-DAC features an analog stereo RCA output. It converts the Coaxial & Optical PCM digital audio input signal to analog L/R audio and outputs the signal through the stereo RCA output jacks.

Power Requirements: The Metra CS-DAC operates off of standard household current using the included AC power adapter (100-240V).

So that I may use my legacy Bose system with my new Sony TV. [ Ruben  May 29, 2018 ]
My new TV set has a digital only TV sound output. My wireless headphone need an analog signal input. I am assuming that the Metra ethereal CS-DA will take care of my situation. [ Jon  May 26, 2018 ]

Did a lot of research on how I could go from digital to analog audio. There were cables for sale but did not think the yamaha receiver was capable of converting the signal. Per conversation with Buddy, I decided to go the more pricey route because of Crutchfields overwhelming quality service reviews and purchasing experience. There are not many companies out there with the pride and quality service provided by Crutchfield. BIG Mahalo Buddy. [ Alan  Dec 01, 2017 ]
simple and small for a tv hookup. [ Jeff  Nov 12, 2017 ]
Want to connect a newer TV to an older but very good receiver. The price for this item seemed right and it got good reviews. [ Richard  Oct 18, 2017 ]
Needed to convert HDMI digital output from Roku to analog for compatibility with new Sony ES receiver. [ Donald  Sep 24, 2017 ]
could not connect my Sony Headphone to my Samsung TV without it! [ Dale  Aug 29, 2017 ]
Abe recommended that this converter would allow us to use our external speakers with our new TV that only has optical digital audio out. [ Clarice  Dec 11, 2016 ]
Needed to hear my headphones thru the sound bar. [ J  Dec 10, 2016 ]
I needed to go from the DVD player's digital audio output to connect to my projector's analog audio imput [ John  Nov 17, 2016 ]
New surround sound amps make the speakers cut out if you plug in headphones. I hate that. Why not both? I need both when my wife and I watch movies with lots of dialog. So I need two amplifiers, one just for headphones. This box makes that possible between a new blu ray player and an old amp. [ Russell  Oct 04, 2016 ]
Suggested by an advisor, Marshall. TV only has an optic out for audio. This item will enable me to connect optic audio to an "analog in" device . [ Doug  Sep 20, 2016 ]
