All the music you want — anywhere in your home

Sonos PLAY:5

The Sonos Play:5 can tune itself for the clearest possible sound in your specific room.

Sonos lets you tap into music from your personal collection and from the Internet, anywhere in your house. The all-new Sonos Play:5 makes it easy to get started or add an additional room — it's a self-contained music system with built-in speakers.

The ultimate smart speaker for streaming music

The Play:5 is ideal for spaces with vaulted ceilings, open kitchen/family room combinations, and other large rooms. Sonos gave it six built-in synchronized drivers to deliver rich, vibrant sound.

A convenient touch feature allows you to effortlessly skip songs and adjust volume with just a touch of your hand. You'll get top-notch, room-filling sound from a player that easily fits on a counter in the kitchen or an end table in the living room.

Exceptionally easy multi-room music

Place Sonos music players like the Play:5 in every room where you want to listen to music. The players connect to your home network — either via Wi-Fi® or by connecting one player to your router via Ethernet to create a dedicated Sonos network. This network, known for its extensive range and superior performance, gives you house-wide access to tunes stored on your PC along with a wealth of Internet audio choices. (For the best wireless performance, we recommend adding the Sonos Boost.)

Sonos controllers

The Sonos app gives you easy wireless control

You can use your iPhone®, iPod touch®, iPad®, or Android™ smartphone or tablet to control any and all Sonos players. A free download turns your smartphone and tablet into a full-fledged Sonos controller. Easily navigate and search through playlists and tracks stored on your computer, or select an Internet radio station. Create customized playlists on the fly for individual rooms or for playback over your entire Sonos system. You can also mute or adjust the volume of each of your players.

Trueplay speaker tuning for optimal sound

If you use your Sonos control app on an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, great news. You can use your iOS® device to fine-tune the Play:5 with Sonos's Trueplay feature. It uses the mic built into your device to measure how the sound reflects off your walls and furnishings, and then it adjusts the speaker's settings for the best possible sound. Trueplay works with every Play:1, Play:3, and Play:5 speaker in your system. (Currently for iOS devices only.)

Spotify®, Apple Music™, SiriusXM, and more at your fingertips

The Sonos system works seamlessly with a host of streaming music services, including Pandora®, Spotify, Apple Music, Rhapsody®, TIDAL and more. You also have access to thousands of Internet radio stations from around the world through TuneIn Radio, and terrestrial radio stations through iHeartRadio. If you subscribe to SiriusXM Internet Radio, you can tune into all your favorite programming on any Sonos player in your system.

Using an Alexa voice control assistant with your Sonos system

The Sonos One has Amazon Alexa voice control built in.  It lets you select songs from compatible music services using nothing but your voice. You can also control your Alexa-compatible smart home devices with it.

But what if you already have Sonos speakers around your home, like the Play:5? You can get those same cool voice control features by adding an Alexa-compatible voice control assistant and pairing it with your existing Sonos system via the Alexa mobile app. Alexa will "see" all the rooms that you have set up in your Sonos system, and you can control music playback in all of them, simply by talking to your Alexa device.

Which music services work with Alexa?

Here's the list of music services you can control with Alexa (updated  May, 2018):

  • Spotify® (Premium account required)
  • Pandora®
  • Amazon Music
  • iHeartRadio
  • SiriusXM
  • Deezer

Compatible with AirPlay 2

The Sonos Play:5 has AirPlay 2 built in. That means you can stream audio directly from your iPhone®, iPad®, or Mac® computer through your Sonos system. That includes soundtracks from YouTube® videos and Netflix movies.

And if you subscribe to Apple Music®, you can do even more. Use Siri on your iPhone, iPad, or Apple TV 4K to control Apple Music with voice commands. Tell it what selection or playlist to play — and which Sonos speakers you want it to play through.

Expand your Sonos system

You can have up to 32 Sonos music players in your system, and each one can play an independent selection of individual tracks or playlists. Listen to jazz in the den while your spouse plays rock music in the kitchen, or pump a single playlist of songs throughout the entire house during a party.

Sonos Multiroom Music System
Speaker & Amplifier Section

Sonos Multiroom Music System

Sonos PLAY:5 (Generation 2): The PLAY:5 (generation 2) is part of the Sonos wireless multiroom music eco-system consisting of a family of wireless network speakers, players, and amplifiers. Start with a single PLAY:5 speaker and add more over time - including the Sonos PLAY:1 / PLAY:3 / PLAY:5 powered speakers, the Sonos One voice-activated speaker, the Sonos Connect:Amp / Connect zone players, and the PLAYBAR / PLAYBASE / BEAM soundbar speakers (all sold separately). With multiple zones, you can play the same or different songs in different rooms. Up to 32 Sonos devices can be connected in one system.

Two Ways to Connect Wirelessly: Sonos brings great sounding music wirelessly to any room in your house, without a big wiring project through SonosNet or WiFi.

  • SonosNet Wireless Mesh Network: Sonos can utilize its own SonosNet proprietary wireless mesh network technology to provides superior wireless range for whole-house coverage, ensure synchronous music playback, and avoid sources of wireless interference. The transmitting range of the Sonos wireless system is approximately 100', depending upon your home's layout. In addition to the PLAY:5, you will need a Sonos Boost (sold separately) connected to your network router/modem via a Ethernet cable.
  • WiFi Wireless Network: Sonos can also operate over your home's existing WiFi network (802.11 b/g/n; 2.4GHz). Because you are connecting wirelessly to your home's existing WiFi network, you do not need to hardwire a Sonos Boost to your router/modem. The Sonos system's wireless range will be dependent on your home's existing WiFi network. Sonos products manufactured after March 2014 are loaded with the proper firmware and ready to go out of the box for WiFi connectivity. All Sonos products manufactured prior to that date will require a wired connection to facilitate a firmware upgrade and  hereafter they will be able to work over WiFi.
  • You cannot connect the Sonos system via both the SonosNet proprietary mesh network and WiFi; you will need to choose one. Sonos recommends using its proprietary SonosNet wireless mesh network over WiFi when applicable.
  • The Sonos proprietary mesh network will provide a more secure wireless connection with fewer interruptions for optimum performance.
  • WiFi is subject to greater interference from other WiFi and 2.4GHz devices on your network. WiFi connectivity is not compatible with 5GHz (you will have to use the Sonos wireless mesh network in this case).

Ethernet Port (10/100 Mbps): In addition to built-in WiFi, the Sonos PLAY:5 is equipped with one Ethernet port (10/100 Mbps). Use it to wire directly to your router to operate Sonos if WiFi is unstable, or use the Ethernet port to provide Internet accessibility to non-wireless devices if you're using a SonosNET Boost setup.

Music Streaming Services: Sonos gives you access to unlimited music; such as your iTunes library, your favorite music services, and thousands of Internet radio stations, shows, and podcasts.

  • Online Music Services: Sonos works seamlessly with TuneIn, Spotify, Pandora, SiriusXM, Google Play Music, Apple Music, Amazon Music, iHeartRadio, Rhapsody, TIDAL, Deezer, SoundCloud, and more; plus downloads from any service offering DRM-free tracks. (Service availability varies by region.) Click here for the latest online music services (some online services require a paid subscription).
  • Music Libraries: Sonos supports playback of music from any computer or network-attached storage (NAS) device on your home network where you have shared music folders. Sonos can play music stored on up to 16 PCs, Macs or NAS (Network Attached Storage) devices on your home network, supporting the most popular audio formats. Sonos indexes your music folders so you can view your music collection by categories (such as artists, albums, composers, genres, or tracks). Sonos supports the following audio file formats - MP3 (compressed), WMA (compressed), AAC (MPEG4), iTunes, Ogg Vorbis, Audible (format 4), Apple Lossless, FLAC (lossless), WAV (uncompressed), and AIFF (uncompressed).
  • iTunes Music: The Sonos wireless music system supports the playback of music and playlists managed with your iTunes account (playlists are limited to 40,000 tracks). Sonos can access your iTunes music files from your network computer or directly from your Apple iPod iOS device (4.0+) running the Sonos app.

Sonos Controller App: Sonos allows you to control its audio setup, playback functions, and search features through the Sonos Controller app (for Apple iOS 9.0+ and Android OS 4.3+) or the Sonos Controller software (for Windows PC (7-up) and Mac OS X 10.10-up) - letting you control the entire Sonos eco-system from your compatible smartphone, tablet, laptop, or computer. The new navigation bar (My Sonos, Rooms, Browse, Search and More) at the bottom of the app makes finding what you're looking for effortless and moving between music quicker than ever.

  • My Sonos: Organize your music with the My Sonos tab. It's the simplest way to combine and access all the music you love. Bringing together in one simple screen all your favorite songs, playlists, albums, podcasts and radio stations from across your different music services.
  • Now Playing: The Now Playing screen features album art and basic playback controls. For a deeper look into the music you're listening to, the "Info View" screen gives you artist bios, album reviews and concert listings. See related artist suggestions to discover a new band for your queue. You can also add to your playlists, delete songs from your library, and share tracks to Twitter or Facebook.
  • Rooms: You can choose to play different songs in different rooms, choose to group all rooms together to hear the same music throughout your home, or choose to group only certain rooms together for music playback. You can also crank up the volume for each room individually or together.
  • Browse & Search: Browse your music services, favorites, internet radio, personal music library and playlists. You can browse your music content by Album, Artist, Song, or Playlist. You can even search across all of your music services and files simultaneously, so you can find the music you love instantly.
  • More: Provides personalized & custom settings for your Sonos system. Adjust and audio settings like bass, treble, balance, and loudness for each room location.
Note: The Sonos device, Apple iOS/Android device, Windows PC, and/or Mac computer must be connected to the same wireless network.

AirPlay 2 (Firmware Update Available): AirPlay 2 is an advanced and easy-to-use wireless multiroom audio platform for iTunes, Apple Music, and other Apple iOS apps. With AirPlay 2 you can play any sound from your Apple iOS device (running iOS 11.4 or later) or Mac computer (running OS X 10.13.2) on the Sonos One, Play:5, Playbase speakers, and other compatible AirPlay 2 speakers throughout your home. You will also be able to ask Siri-enabled devices (like your Apple iPhone, iPad, or Watch) to control playback of your Apple Music on compatible Sonos speakers. You can even watch videos and movies from YouTube and Netflix on your compatible Apple iOS device or Mac computer with perfectly synced audio on a Sonos One, Play:5, or Playbase speaker. You can choose to play audio in one room, play the same audio in grouped rooms, or play the same audio in every room.

Note: Even though the Play:1, Play:3, Playbar, and other Sonos products are not AirPlay 2 compatible, you can still group these Sonos speakers with an AirPlay 2 compatible player (like the Sonos One, Play:5, or Playbase) to unlock AirPlay for your entire system.

Alexa Compatible: Through a free network software update you'll be able to control your Sonos system through any Alexa-enabled device - including the Sonos One and Amazon Echo (sold separately - see Accessories Tab). Using the Amazon Alexa device as you normally would; just say "Alexa" and the name of the Sonos room you want to play a particular music service through when instructing Alexa to play music. Play a song, skip forward and back through playlists, target one room or an existing group of rooms, and adjust volume - all using your voice.

  • Alexa supports Amazon Music, Pandora, iHeartRadio, TuneIn Radio, and SiriusXM music services (Spotify control is coming soon). When instructing Alexa to play a particular artist, the song will begin playing from your default music service, set in the Alexa app, unless you specify the service in your voice instruction.
  • For a complete list of Alexa voice commands you can use with Sonos, click here.
  • Any non-music related commands will still play over your Alexa device (weather, traffic, flash briefs, etc).
  • You will need to search and enable the Sonos skill from the Alexa app on your mobile device or computer.
  • Your Sonos equipment and Amazon Alexa-enabled devices must be on the same wireless network.

Google Assistant: The Google Assistant will be supported by Sonos in 2018 through an over-the-network firmware update.

Home Network Requirements: To access Internet music services, Internet radio, and any digital music stored on your computer or Network-Attached Storage (NAS) device, your home network must meet the following requirements:

  • High-speed DSL/Cable modem, or fiber-to-the-home broadband connection for proper playback of Internet-based music services. If your Internet service provider only offers Satellite Internet access, you may experience playback issues due to fluctuation in download rates.
  • If your modem is not a modem/router combination and you want to take advantage of Sonos' automatic online updates, or stream music from an Internet-based music service, you must install a wireless router in your home network. If you don't have a wireless router, you will need to purchase and install one before setting up your system.
  • You will need the Sonos Controller application for Apple iOS 9.0+ and Android OS 4.3+, or the Sonos Controller software program for Windows PC 7-up and Mac OS x 10.10-up.
  • Connect at least one Sonos component to your home network router using an Ethernet cable, and then you can add other Sonos components wirelessly. Or setup your Sonos component wirelessly via WiFi without any hardwire connection.
  • For best results, you should connect the computer or NAS drive that contains your personal music library collection to your home network router using an Ethernet cable.
  • Make sure all of your Sonos components have the latest software update installed.
Note: Although Sonos is compatible with most networking equipment, some network devices are incompatible. Usually when networking hardware does not work with Sonos, it's because it lacks support for the network protocols that Sonos uses to operate, like UPnP, STP, and SMB/CIFS.

Automatic Updates: The Sonos wireless music system supports free automatic software updates so you will always have the newest features and music services to enjoy. Simply register the Sonos device and the Sonos Controller app on your smartphone/tablet or the Sonos Controller software program on your laptop/computer will automatically notify you when software updates are available. By simply pressing one button your system updates itself.

Speaker & Amplifier Section

Six Discrete Speakers & Amplifiers: The PLAY:5 (generation 2) uses six state-of the-art Class-D amplifiers individually coupled with the unit's six speakers to deliver superior sound to any room. Two 0.75" tweeters and one 1" tweeter create a crisp and accurate high frequency response, while three dedicated 4" mid-woofers ensure the faithful reproduction of midrange and midbass frequencies crucial for accurate playback of vocals and instruments. Each driver is powered by its own state-of-the-art, great sounding Class-D amplifier that is light weight, powerful and very energy efficient in standby and use.

Acoustic Port: The acoustic port on the rear of the unit serves two purposes: it is vital to the sound output of the PLAY:5, and it doubles as a convenient handle when moving it from one room to another.

All-Digital Sound Architecture: From the recording studio to your home the music is reproduced as the artist intended. All filter settings, active equalization, and time-alignment are done in the digital domain through state-of-the-art DSP circuitry so there is absolutely no loss of audio quality or energy.

Equalization Settings: The PLAY:5 offers adjustable bass, treble, balance, and loudness controls for optimal sound performance.

Touch-Sensitive Controls: The PLAY:5 provide touch-sensitive controls on its top-panel. Controls include Volume Up/Down, Play/Pause, & Previous/Next Track.

Mounting Options: The PLAY:5 speaker can be positioned vertically or horizontally. Integrated rubber feet protect your furniture and keep the speaker securely in place. The PLAY:5 is designed to withstand high humidity, such as in a bathroom with a running shower. However, the PLAY:5 is not waterproof or water resistant.

Trueplay Tuning (for Apple iOS): The layout of a room, and where a speaker is placed, can have a significant impact on the sound that you hear. Trueplay, an auto-tune app within the Sonos App,  uses the microphone in your Apple iOS device to measure how sound reflects off walls, furnishings and other surfaces in a room, and then fine tunes the Sonos PLAY:5 speaker to make sure it sounds great no matter where you've placed it. The Sonos PLAY:5 speaker already sounds fantastic, but Trueplay brings you even closer to how music should sound. Completing Trueplay tuning for a room takes approximately 3 minutes from start to finish.

  • Compatibility: Trueplay is compatible with the Sonos PLAY:5, Play:3, and Play:1. In order to perform Trueplay tuning, the Sonos app for iPhone, iPad or iPod touch running iOS 7 or higher is required. This includes iPhone 4s and higher, iPad 2 and higher, as well as iPod touch 5th generation and higher. Trueplay tuning is not available if the VoiceOver" feature is enabled on your Apple iOS device. Trueplay is currently not compatible with Android.
  • 1Ch/1.1ch & 2Ch/2.1Ch Tuning: Trueplay can be used with a single speaker setup, two speakers configured as a stereo pair, or either of these configurations with the Sonos Sub added.
Note: You will need to retune the PLAY:5 speaker using TruePlay, if you move the speaker within the same room or to another room, change the orientation of speaker (horizontal vs. vertical), or change the configuration of the speaker setup (going from a single speaker to a stereo pair for example).

Creating a Stereo Pair: For a wider stereo experience, you can combine two PLAY:5 units in the same room to create a pair of stereo speakers. In this configuration, one unit serves as the left channel and the other serves as the right channel. The Sonos Controller app can be used to configure the units in this manner. When creating a stereo pair, the speakers should be placed 8' to 12' apart.

Optional Wireless Subwoofer: The optional Sonos Sub 1 wireless powered subwoofer (sold separately) can be linked with the PLAY:5 to enhance its bass response. The set-up procedure for the Sub adjusts the crossover automatically so it seamlessly integrates with the PLAY:5. Through the Sonos Controller app, you can also set the phase and level of the subwoofer to match it to the PLAY:5's output.

5.1ch Surround System: Two Sonos PLAY:5 wireless speakers can be used to create a wireless 5.1ch surround sound experience with the Sonos Playbar, Playbase, Beam and Sub 1. Now you don't have to run wires to a powered sub or rear speakers to enjoy true 5.1ch audio.

Ethernet Port: There is a rear-panel RJ-45 Ethernet port (10/100 Mbps) for hardwiring the PLAY:5 speaker to your network router.

Aux Input: You can connect an external source, such as a portable music player or a CD player, to the unit's rear-panel minijack (3.5mm) input. The Aux input is automatically detected when a device is connected, and the source appears on the system. Music from the external source can be played in any zone. The volume is controlled by the Sonos wireless music system, however, the playback (pause, music selection, etc.) must be controlled at the source.

AC Power: The Sonos PLAY:5 operates on standard household current (100-240V, 50-60Hz) using the supplied 6.5' AC power cord.

How much of an improvement is the redesigned flagship Sonos speaker over the original version? Our writer spent some time with both to find out.

Great wireless speakers gets even better!

Written by Roy, Advisor, on 10/6/2015 5:13:00 PM
Sonos has raised the bar on their wireless speaker system with this improved PLAY:5. The new ability to pair two of these in stereo (before only capable in the PLAY:1 and PLAY:3 speakers) delivers a better experience than ever before. It allows true stereo separation with the larger speakers that noticeably increases the mid-bass and bass output. Keep in mind if you have older PLAY:5 speakers, this cannot be accomplished as the older speakers do not have the hardware (a 5GHz antenna that was only found in the smaller speakers before) to do this.

I was impressed with the new Play 5 improvements along with the ease of setting up Sonos. I found the Bowers & Wilkins A7 system way too much trouble to use. [ Bill  Feb 08, 2016 ]
Despite having an expensive surround sound system in my family room, a home theater, and 48TB house server for all of our media, Sonos made perfect sense, when it comes to music from Spotify and Apple Music. I do not want to turn on the receiver, preamp, subwoofer, etc. every time I want to listen to some music. I just want to click a couple of button on my iPhone and listen. Move to another room and continue listening. Go to the master bath and continue listening there. [ ALEX  Feb 02, 2016 ]
Looking to fill a timber loft with excellent sound and wireless capability. I hear this is just the product to make that happen...looking forward to receiving these speakers and putting them to the test. [ KEVIN  Jan 31, 2016 ]

I already have many Sonos speakers, but only have a play3 in office, which I've never been very happy with. This will replace the play3 which will migrate to another part of the house that doesn't need top quality sound. [ Edward  Jan 17, 2016 ]

Great Sound, Solid design love the feature to be able to expand easy to all rooms of house, also to mix and match with other Sonos speakers and to control them through one Simple app [ M  Dec 31, 2015 ]
We chose the SONOS over the similar BOSE system because of the company's long history in the market, the speaker tuning feature, the more extensive music service selection in their app, and the expandabilty/connectivity with additional devices. [ MICHAEL  Dec 23, 2015 ]
Because they are outstanding loudspeakers with the best internet streaming ability of any speakers....and are made even better with the Trueplay tuning capability. And they also have line-in connections for a hardwired source such as a CD player. [ WILLIAM T  Dec 21, 2015 ]
I purchased one of the Play 5 second gen(2015) just to see if it was worth the price and was blown away with the sound quality for such a small speaker! Buying a second one so I can pair them in stereo. I own several Sonos speakers, including the original play 5 but this one is by far the best. Great job Sonos! [ Christopher  Dec 18, 2015 ]

I have a Play3 in kitchen area and I wanted another speaker in living room (larger Play5 seems ideal). Receiver, Sony 4K TV etc in basement. Sonos is ideal for wifi speakers in rest of house. I wish they made weather proof speakers for outdoor use! [ Jeffery  Feb 21, 2016 ]
Bought Play1 and Play3 and they are fantastic! [ Steven  Feb 09, 2016 ]

14 questions already asked

No. They only work via WiFi. [ Gary  Aug 28, 2018 ]
No, they are not Blu Tooth. You do not need Blu Tooth, you just down load the iOS or Android app to your phone and connect to them over your WiFi system. [ Jeff  Aug 27, 2018 ]
I don't believe the Sonos system is compatible with Bluetooth. Fidelity is in fact better with Songs. However the Sonos platform permits access to Apple Music, Spotify and other media. Hence the listener has virtually unlimited access to different artists. [ James C.  Aug 27, 2018 ]
Yes you can [ JAMES A  Aug 27, 2018 ]
I've never heard the Bose but I can't imagine it possibly sounding better than the Play 5. It plays better and deeper than it's size would indicate. The app can't be beat and it couldn't be any easier to use and streaming your library is effortless. The glowing reviews at Crutchfield and across the internet tell the Sonos story. [ Mark  May 11, 2018 ]
I definitely prefer the sound of the Sonos Play 5 over Bose. In fact, I firts ordered a Bose Soundtouch and return it immediately. I have absolutely no problems playing my iTunes library, as well asother services such as Pandora without any problems with my Sonos system. [ Jose  May 11, 2018 ]
So, I love my Sonos system. I use them for surround with my TV, in the kitchen, bedroom and my living room. I have the Play 5s in the living room. They produce great sound. And a lot of it. I didn't really consider the 3s because the 5s had better reviews. The also have an auxiliary input on the back, so if your husband has a record player, or CD player he can plug that into the system and play those in other rooms - a pretty cool feature. That said the 5s are expensive and frankly they are more powerful than I need in my living room. My living room is about 15'x20'. If your husband is looking to play music in many rooms, you might consider getting 3 or 4 of the Play 1s. That would cost about the same as a pair of the 5s and give him a multi room option. And depending on the size of the room, you could also just go with one Play 5 and then two or three Play 1s for other rooms. One of the Play 5s will fill the room with sound, though it won't really be stereo. One word of caution, if he's a true audiophile he may get frustrated with the limited tuning options on Sonos. I love music and the sound matters a lot to me. Sonos is truly spectacular. The software is amazing and the sound is really good. But, in an effort to make it simple, they limit what you can do. It's a minor annoyance, and if he loves music he will likely love Sonos. [ Jonathan  Jan 02, 2018 ]
No it does not. It has two connectors in the rear. One is a network jack (RJ-45) and the other is a line in connector ( ?) . Hope this helps [ Harold  Mar 20, 2017 ]
It does have 3.5 mm on a back panel [ Nikolai  Mar 17, 2017 ]
You will love these! Play 5 is amazing and play 3 is perfect for an office or bedroom setting. They do become a little addictive and I now have 8 of them in total and have two friends now growing their systems! To answer your questions, I don't think they are using any bandwith when off, but if they are it is not significant. Today's internet speeds would be unaffected by the minimal audio stream to these. I can tell you that my mother lives in a more rural area with a 10Mbps internet and never has a problem with this on and the grandchildren on their devices; gaming, streaming videos or Skyping friends. I hope you enjoy them as I am sure you will! [ Alexander  Jan 29, 2017 ]
Technically yes, it does have a line in connection, but it is designed to be a wholly contained wireless unit. It contains amplifiers and 5 speakers to stream your own mp3s or music services like Pandora, Amazon, Itunes...It sounds great by itself or can be part of a stereo pair as well. [ Alexander  Dec 11, 2016 ]
Not directly. To connect to an existing stereo system you will need a Sonos connect. The Sonos connect has inputs and connects existing equipment to your wifi network. Once part of your network the play 5 could play stream the music from your existing stereo. [ Charlton  Dec 10, 2016 ]
it has an aux input so you could hook it up directly to your stereo that way. It can also pass that audio to the rest of your Sonos system (assuming you have multiple sonos speakers). But beware that there will be an audio delay (due to analog to digital conversion) so playing it at the same time as your traditional speakers in the same system, you will hear it out of sync. [ Henry  Dec 10, 2016 ]
Yes. It has a 1/8" inch aux connector [ JEFFREY  Dec 10, 2016 ]
Yes, they have apps for iphones & Ipads, androids and windows 10 computers. This speaker sounds great and the Sonos system is amazing and so easy to use that my 76 year old mother has speakers in three rooms and loves it! She has had them for 2 years and even texted me last week letting me know how much she enjoys them. [ Alexander  Oct 28, 2016 ]
Yes, you can use the app to control sonos [ Jesse  Oct 28, 2016 ]
Via the iOS Sonos app yes. But not over Bluetooth or airplay. [ JEFFREY  Oct 28, 2016 ]
according to the sonus web site/support, the answer is yes. i even think there might be two ways to do it. [ Harold  Jun 08, 2016 ]
sorry I do not know [ MICHAEL  Jun 08, 2016 ]
I don't know. We don't have a turntable. I think you can run anything connected to wifi but best to ask tech support. The sound is awesome though. Very clean and deep. [ WILLIAM  Jun 06, 2016 ]
No. I Don't think directly, but maybe with a line level adapter of some sort. [ Alexander  Jun 06, 2016 ]
had another idea, after thoughts are good too. If you think you can split your Source (TV) audio out to two different Play:5, you could get two play:3's that would do the same as the Play 5. you would still have your stereo and now you have the capabilities to play/put the 3's in other rooms just like the 5's. i think they sell as a set. That was my second thought for my christmas present from my wife :) [ Harold  Jan 14, 2016 ]
Once the speakers are paired, they show up in the app together as 1 "Room", which means they can only be used together. You can easily unpair them to use them simultaneously for different audio, but would the have to go through the processor pairing them again. This is also the same if you add them as "Surround speakers" connected to a playbar, in which case all thre speakers are one room. [ Josiah  Jan 12, 2016 ]
just a guess here, does the TV (source) have two lines out, one for each Play;5 ? Does a line out cable have the capabilities to be split ? again, one for each Play:5 ? Hate to answer a question with a question. [ Harold  Jan 11, 2016 ]
Yes, the Sonos 5 is an integrated speaker/amplifier combination. Quite powerful in a relatively small package. Plug it in, download the app, follow the instructions and it will work using your existing wifi. If plugged in to your router by ethernet the unit will create it's own wifi thus reducing any additional strain on your wireless network lessening the chance of dropouts. It is expensive but a very nice sounding (as well as attractive) piece of audio equipment. [ RYLAND P  Sep 16, 2016 ]
Yes the amp is built into the speaker [ CARLO  Sep 16, 2016 ]
Your TV would have to offer an analog audio output for you to connect to the 3.5mm "Local Source" input on the Play5 speaker. If the primary purpose of the speaker will be to produce audio from your TV, you may want to consider the PlayBar instead: It offers an optical input for making a digital audio connection from your TV and provides a simulated surround sound experience (in addition to all the streaming services/options of the Play:5). I hope that helps! My Bio: [ Ryan  Feb 17, 2016 ]  Staff
Hi Michael, you can connect it via 1/8 headphone jack cable with an adapter. I've read that there may be latency issues. The second option is buy Connect or Connect Amp but that may be expensive. Also, Sonos does not have a solution for streaming audio from youtube and other web based audio unless its in there application. I think for the price I should be allow to play anything on my computer and stream it to the speakers. [ Alex  Feb 17, 2016 ]
Yes. There is a company that makes wall mounts specifically for Sonos. They sell them on here. [ Karin  Jan 05, 2016 ]
don't think so but I would contact either Sonos of Flexson to find out for sure. [ ANDREW  Jan 04, 2016 ]
Not easily, no. I suppose one could find a way but it would take some time and more than a little finesse I think to craft a permanent mount without damaging at least the finish of the unit. [ Ken P.  Jan 04, 2016 ]
You can create a shelf on the wall and place the speaker on it but there are no mounting options on the speakers. [ Alex  Jan 04, 2016 ]
