AKG D5S Dynamic Microphone
Supercardioid dynamic microphone with on/off switch
Our take on the AKG D5S Dynamic Microphone by Crutchfield's Alexander Hrabe
A tradition of excellence
Over sixty-five years ago, AKG began making microphones that were quickly embraced for their exceptional quality. Today, AKG's emphasis on continuous innovation keeps them in the forefront of microphone technology. If sound quality is your top priority, AKG microphones can make the difference between a good show and a great show.
The D5S dynamic microphone gives your vocals the power and clarity to soar above the mix, even on the loudest stage, and it sports an on/off switch for onstage convenience. Its supercardioid polar pattern ensures that it'll pick up your voice, and not the noise next to you or behind you. The mic capsule is isolated by two shock mounts to reduce handling noise, and an integrated windscreen filters out wind and breath noise, giving your voice the presence it deserves.
Built like a tank
Live gigs can be rough on your equipment, but the D5S's solid, zinc alloy die-cast body and spring-steel wire mesh grilleshield the transducer against physical damage and high sound pressure levels. This mic may be sensitive, but it's no wimp!

Features and Specs
|Application||For live use|
Overview: The AKG D5S is a dynamic hand-held microphone designed for lead and backing vocals. It has a supercardioid polar pattern that provides the maximum gain before feedback. The D5S has an XLR connector, and comes with a padded storage pouch with a zippered closure and a stand adapter. The D5S has the same mechanical, electrical, and acoustic characteristics as the D5, and features a noiseless on/off switch.
Dual Shock Mount: The microphone capsule features a dual shock mount that eliminates any kind of mechanical noise. This prevents the microphone from picking up handling or cable noise on stage during live performances. In addition, an integrated windscreen significantly cuts down on wind, pops, and breath noises.
Polar Pattern: The D5S has a frequency-independent supercardioid polar pattern that works well on stage. By suppressing sounds coming from behind, the microphone reduces the chance of feedback caused by on-stage monitors.
Rugged Construction: The D5S features a rugged zinc alloy die-cast body. The transducer element is protected by a rugged front grill made of spring-steel wire mesh that is extremely resistant to deformation caused by drops or rough treatment.
- Frequency Range: 70 Hz to 20 kHz
- Polar Pattern: Supercardioid
- Sensitivity: 2.6 mV/Pa (-52 dBV re 1 V/Pa)
- Max. SPL (1%/3% THD): 147 / 156 dB SPL
- Impedance: ≤ 600 ohms
