TomTom's motorcycle navigator comes ready to ride
TomTom's motorcycle navigator comes ready to ride
Nothing brings you closer to the feel of the road than a finely tuned motorcycle. The wind, the engine noise, the sense of freedom — it's all there to enjoy whenever the conditions are right. The GPS specialists at TomTom developed the Rider 400 portable motorcycle navigator to help you take advantage of your rides, whether you're looking for a particular out-of-the-way spot or a more thrilling route to your destination. This 4.3" traveling companion packs a long list of features, including lifetime map updates and traffic and camera reports for as long as you own your navigator, at no extra charge.
You can view your maps in portrait or landscape orientation with the TomTom Rider 400.
Glove-friendly, glare-unfriendly capacitive touchscreen
Gloves keep your hands safe, but they don't work so well on most portable navigator touchscreens. The Rider 400 boasts big buttons on its display to let you choose your destination and search terms with ease. You can also take advantage of its capacitive pinch-to-zoom fingertip control to see your maps with more detail, like you would on your smartphone or tablet. And the navigator's high-contrast display lets you see it clearly in bright sunlight during the day, while giving you a less intense view when it's darker outside.
Detailed North American maps
The Rider 400 boasts maps of the United States, Canada, and Mexico, so you can plan for guidance nearly anywhere. You'll have millions of points of interest at your disposal, so you can find a nearby fuel, food, or rest spot easily. You can check out the maps in regular landscape view, or rotate the navigator 90 degrees for a vertical view. And with your compatible Bluetooth® headset, you can hear the Rider's spoken directions — including actual street names at turns — when you're paired with the navigator. You can view the maps in regular 2D mode, or check things out with 3D representations of nearby buildings, landmarks, and terrain.
Reliable and thrill-ready guidance
The Rider 400 features text-to-speech voice prompts, which announce actual street names at turns. And its advanced lane guidance ensures you won't miss any upcoming turns by showing you the correct lane for each maneuver along your route. If you've got an adventurous side, you can opt for the navigator to route you for a "Thrilling" ride to a destination or between several stops, which incorporates as few highways as possible. You can select a level of curviness of the roads on your ride, as well as an elevation to climb or descend if you're looking to conquer some hills along the way. And if you find a particularly exciting route, you can save it for future reference or to share with others.
Built for the long haul
The Rider 400 features a waterproof chassis that'll stand up to the elements. And it includes a rugged RAM mount that'll keep your Rider 400 securely attached to your bike, plus a kit that allows you to hard-wire this navigator to your motorcycle's electrical system, for a permanent power solution.
Bluetooth connectivity for directions, calling, and sharing
The Rider 400 can pair with most Bluetooth phones and headsets, so you can hear its spoken turn-by-turn directions directly in your ear. It also enables hands-free calling through your paired phone, so you can call ahead to check on weather conditions or to make a reservation. You can also use Bluetooth to share your saved rides with your buddies who also have Bluetooth-capable navigators or other mapping devices, so you can head out on a group ride on a particular route without worrying about anyone getting lost.
Quick Search
When you type in a destination address or point of interest, the Rider 400 saves you time by immediately suggesting popular results as you fill in letters. You can see all possible destinations in a list or view them on a map.
TomTom MyDrive services for better trip planning
TomTom's MyDrive platform helps you keep the information flowing smoothly to your Rider 400. You can download the MyDrive app to your smartphone, or set up an account online via TomTom's website. Once your account is active, you'll be able to send destinations and points of interest from your computer or smartphone directly to your navigator, saving you from having to look them up when you're on your bike. You can also access specialized motorcyle points of interest from TomTom's Rider community, featuring scenic vistas, particularly challenging stretches of road, and more.
Free lifetime traffic updates in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico
You can access TomTom's traffic reports using MyDrive on your computer, tablet, or smartphone, so you can see how bad traffic is along your route before you even start your trip. To get traffic updates on your Rider 400, simply download the MyDrive app to your smartphone (iPhone® and Android™ only), then pair your phone to the navigator using Bluetooth. You'll have rapid updates — including predictive traffic based on historic patterns — right on your navigator's screen. And you won't have to pay anything extra for these reports, although data charges may apply, depending on your phone carrier.
Keep your maps current and share with others
You can keep your maps updated through TomTom's site for as long as you own the Rider 400. You can also keep up-to-date with road changes through Map Share, a feature which gives you dynamic updates like new speed limits, blocked roads, and recent detours. And if you register these changes on your device as you come across them, you can share them with other TomTom users across the country.
Handy camera alerts
Your Rider 400 purchase gives you free lifetime access to TomTom's camera alert system, available through the MyDrive app. You'll get warnings when you approach fixed and mobile speed camera locations and known hotspots, plus red light cameras and speed enforcement areas. The warnings appear on the map screen and the navigator delivers an audible alert as well. You can even mark new cameras and hotspots along your route and share them with other TomTom users.

Features
Overview: The TomTom Rider 400 is a portable navigation device designed for motorcycles. It has a glove-friendly 4.3" capacitive-touch screen, and contains preloaded maps of the United States, Canada, and Mexico on its built-in 8 GB memory. The Rider 400 is fully interactive through Lifetime TomTom Services. You can connect the device to your smartphone via Bluetooth and receive real-time traffic, lifetime map updates, and lifetime safety camera locations. The Rider 400 comes with a sturdy RAM handlebar mount.
Handlebar Mount: The Rider 400 comes with a charging bike dock and a RAM mounting kit that lets you install the device on most bikes. The RAM kit comes with dual ball-and-socket joints that allow you to adjust the position of your device for best visibility. The included DC power cable has a long cable for connecting the unit to the battery.
Bluetooth: The unit has built-in Bluetooth that allows you to connect to your smartphone's internet connection for TomTom Services and MyDrive functions. You can also connect a Bluetooth headset so you can hear the spoken instructions and warning sounds while you ride.
Waterproof: The Rider 400 is designed to be used in any type of weather conditions. The memory card slot and power connections are protected from moisture and dirt, and carries an IPX7 waterproof rating.
Lifetime Map Updates: With the Lifetime Map Updates subscription, you can download up to four map data updates per year from the TomTom website. These map updates apply to maps of the USA, Canada, and Mexico. If a newer map update is available when you purchase the unit, you can download one complimentary update within 30 days from the time of first use. You must first register your device and create a TomTom account.
TomTom MyDrive: TomTom MyDrive is a smartphone app that works with your Rider 400 to give you the most up-to-date information about traffic along your route. Not only do you receive up-to-the-minute traffic reports as you travel, you can check the traffic along your route ahead of time. This lets you plan ahead of time which route you're going to take. MyDrive lets you set your destination on your smartphone or tablet, and send it to your Rider 400 before you get on the bike. You can save your favorite destinations and access them by tapping them on the map. TomTom MyDrive is compatible with iPhone/iPad running iOS 8.0 or later, and with Android devices with OS 3.0 and up.
4.3" Capacitive-touch LCD: The Rider 400 features a 4.3" widescreen capacitive-touch LCD screen with a resolution of 480 x 272 pixels. The unit can be oriented from a landscape to a portrait view to let you see more of the road ahead. The unit automatically switches between day and night colors, depending upon the time of day. In daylight mode, the screen is easily readable in bright sunlight. At night, the screen brightness is dimmed and dark colors are used to make it less distracting when viewing in the dark. The capacitive-touch screen responds similarly to today's smartphones and tablets, even while you're wearing gloves, allowing you to pinch to zoom in or out, and swipe to move map around.
Rechargeable Battery: The unit has an internal Lithium-ion battery. A fully charged battery offers approximately 6 hours of operation when not connected into the bike's power source. The Rider 400 also comes with a car charger and a 5' USB power cord, so you can use it in your car or truck as well. With the USB power cord, you can also charge the unit while connected to your computer.
Special Motorcycle Routing: The Rider 400 has a "Plan a Thrill" mode that lets you instantly create interesting rides that include challenging roads, and uses as few highways as possible. You can choose the level of curves and hills according to your riding skills. If desired, you can add planned stops along the route. By default, the Thrilling routes are round trips, but you can plan a one-way route, if desired.
IQ Routes Technology: The Rider 400 calculates your routes based on the real average speed measured on roads rather than the posted speed limits. IQ Routes takes into account the time of day you're traveling a road, and how rush hour traffic, pedestrian traffic, and traffic light changes can affect actual traffic speed. You will get a more accurate ETA and the fastest recommended route based on real world data.
Advanced Lane Guidance: When navigating difficult intersections, the Rider 400 uses realistic images and arrows to indicate which lane to take to best negotiate the turns. This service is only available in the US and Canada.
Points Of Interest: The Rider 400 gives you access to over 10 million pre-loaded Points of Interest (POIs) including fuel stations, parking, restaurants, cash machines, and lots more. The POIs are indicated by icons, and in some cases, logos of the business. You can select which POI categories you want to display.
Favorite Locations: The Favorite menu allows you to store into memory those locations that you visit frequently. You can choose a favorite location the same way you choose a destination. The following menu options are available; Home, Address, Recent Destination, Point Of Interest, Point On Map, GPS Position (allows you to store your current location quickly), latitude and longitude, and the location where your TomTom was last used.
Memory Card Slot: The Rider 400 has a slot for a microSD card to give you additional memory for storing purchased maps, or saving routes and tracks. The slot is protected by a rubberized cover to prevent dirt and moisture from entering.
Help Me! Menu: This feature gives you direct access to safety and road assistance information, such as the phone number and route description to the nearest police station or hospital. The Where Am I? feature can pinpoint your exact location so you can accurately communicate it to emergency resources. When the device is paired with your mobile phone via Bluetooth, you can call for help (police, fire, rescue, car repair) with one touch.

It would be 5 stars if had option other than hard wiring. Like powered directly to trickle charger connection.
