Inexperienced with turntables and speakers, I was looking for a system that would be easy to set up, not too expensive, and yet would provide quality audio. I should mention that I live in a small, off-the-road-system town in rural Alaska and therefore can't readily get to shops where I might test out various sound systems. Guided by Randy's recommendations, I ended up choosing a Technics SL-1500C turntable and Klipsch The Nines speakers. The equipment arrived very well packaged (a big deal out here where goods are passed through multiple carriers), set-up was a breeze, and after a few days of listening my wife Barbra and I are thoroughly pleased with this system. By the way, I noticed that Crutchfield's score on the Klipsch speakers rated them slightly lower in the "vocals" category - but having just now listened to Annie Lenox's "Medusa" album, I have to say the vocals through these speakers sound pretty great. Thanks Randy!

I had a simple home amplifier question, which I thought would take 5 minutes to figure out, but lucky for me Randy spent over an hour talking amps, speakers, surround set-ups, my JLB HDI-3800 issues, ported subs, surround speakers, TIDAL for music, record player and vinyl VS CDs ... I had 900 questions, he answered 910 questions! Great guy to talk to. One drawback: Now I want (need) an AMP, a ported sub, 4 surround speakers, and $5300 to pay for it. LOL He is another reason I've been doing business with Crutchfield since my college days in the late 80s, back when all we had great music!

I asked Randy about a particularly tiny detail about the operation of a Sony Bravia TV. The TV does not have analog audio outputs (to drive a receiver or in my case a pair of powered speakers), but it does have digital audio out on TOSLINK optical that can feed a DAC (which would then drive my speakers). So my question was, "does the TOSLINK audio output of the TV follow the volume setting on the remote?" and the answer is, "no." But he suggested an alternative solution in the form a little device called a DARC1, which takes the audio signal on the TV's eARC output (which is on an HDMI connector) and splits it out to analog line-level stereo that can drive my speakers -- and the remote can control the volume. Thanks to Randy for taking the time to find a solution.

My experience with randy was nothing other than amazing! Patient, kind, knowledgeable, informative, and he has a good sense of humor. He was all those things for me, even knowing this is a future purchase. It'll take a couple months to get the money in order for me. How satisfied was I with Randy's service? I asked if they're allowed to receive tips, which I thought would be common, as this is a custom service-based transaction. The answer there was unclear, as no one has ever asked before. But his time and service, even before I purchased through them was that definitely good! Another thing I learned a bit about, is how the business handles their employees, as it was relevant to the tips question. I'm not going to type out what I learned, as it's a lot of words, and I've already said a lot. But it's an honorable platform, for a business to run on. This is the second time I've made a purchase through Crutchfield. I purchased a powered sub, about 7 years ago. My experience was similar to this. I would highly recommend Crutchfield, to anyone interested in the products they have available. Thanks again Randy!!
