American International HON-K808 Dash Kit
phillip from Lancaster, OH on 6/12/2017

Perfect fit! And can hold the radio receiver chassis as well without issues. Due the the design of Honda, not this product, it can be removed by hand so some adhesive is recommended to keep the bumps on roads from moving the plate around. But that won't be seen from the outside. The inner piece (take it out before the radio install or the receiver chassis won't go in) clips in just right with the face of receivers as well for a factory look unlike many adapters. Color is slightly off of the dash black color, but isn't something you'll notice without a picky eye for detail. If this does not fit your Civic your car has been modified in the past, it's literally as close to plug and play as a product can ever be.
Pros:
Cons: None, the factory Honda dash design and this fitting is NOT a product flaw.

Dropped right in, everything fit just fine. Felt a tiny bit loose, until I got everything installed.
Pros: Fit.
Cons: A slightly better diagram of the installation would have been nice. Knowing that the inner part went in first, then the stereo sleeve, and *then* the outer cover would have made it less likely for me to need to pull it out again.

Rollmaster from Roanoke, Virginia on 6/11/2015

This is why I buy from Crutchfield. They offer the best installation accessories available. The fit and finish is always perfect. The install is always clean and tight when you are done unlike the sloppy junk that you get from other retailers. Now if they could just get Honda to take notes on how to make things that go together and come apart without complications.
Pros: Perfect Fit, great design, looks like it belongs once it is installed
Cons: NONE except for the Honda that it went it was frustrating and un-cooperative. Honda uses one way screws in their dash, they go in but they don't come out!

Not fancy, but gets the job done
Michael W from Layton, UT on 1/19/2014
1997 Honda Civic
This receiver kit is a 2-piece design. Take the two pieces apart, put the first part in the dash, secure the head unit cage, slide the head unit in, and put the trim ring on. It's as simple as that. The design is pretty underwhelming. There are other kits out there that may give a more "factory" look, but the price was right on this--free with purchase of my stereo. I can't take the faceplate off of my Pioneer unit (not a big deal to me) and there is a bit of a gap between the front of the head unit and the trim ring of this kit. I wish it looked as good as it does with Pioneer's standard trim ring (which must be removed), but that's the way it goes.
Pros: great fit, secure, easy installation
Cons: I feel it could look better and there may be other alternatives out there (from other vendors).

Simple elegant
A Mitchell from Long Island NY on 1/17/2014
1998 Honda Civic
It's the finishing features that make the install, hiding the wires and mess, making it feel custom. Thats exactly what the trim does. My only problem after installing my Alpine CDE-HD149BT was it was too recessed (my prior Kenwood was perfect in the dash)-98 civic. After re reading the book it appears its not the trim, which is the same in both cases, I might have missed attaching some plates to the radio that were in the box, DOH! Looking for those now, but once done I have no doubt it will look as factory as my Kenwood did.
Pros: Durable, simple.
Cons: None

When Crutchfield included this with my car stereo purchase, I was not sure what to expect. I purchased a Kenwood KDC-X997 and hoped it would look much more visually appealing than the aftermarket walmart stereo and kit that was installed. The receiver kit was easy to install and looks pretty nice with the Kenwood. My only criticism is that it looks like the stereo is somewhat recessed. I think given that it's not a factory stereo, it will obviously look a little different and just takes some getting used to. All in all, I think it's a good kit and I'm glad it was included from Crutchfield.
Pros: Good fit and finish
Cons:

Works as advertised
Mike from Mesa, AZ on 10/11/2013
1997 Honda Civic
I had first bought a Boss Audio 612UA stereo (one of the cheapest I could find for this old car), but the face on the stereo was too big for this receiver kit. After putting in the outer trim, then putting in the stereo, the inner trim piece wouldn't fit. I ended up taking the Boss back and purchased a Pioneer DEH-150MP. The inner trim piece is a little snug and I can't get detachable face off the stereo, but i'm not too concerned about that. It looks great and matches the rest of the dash, and that's really what I was aiming for.
Pros: Looks great.
Cons: Snug fit. Doesn't fit all single-DIN stereos.

What can I say? It's an easy to install plastic receiver mount. It went in easily. You need to bend out the actual receiver metal mount to get this to stay in place, there is nothing on the plastic mount itself to hold the bracket. It worked well and it fit properly.
Pros: Easy install. Fit well.
Cons: Needed to use actual metal receiver mount to secure this. It's the design of the dash. There is nothing to secure a mount to without metal tabs.

Deggy from Madison, WI on 4/13/2011

I used this with an older Sony with a flip down face. The flip down face would catch, so I had to trim the bottom edge. Others have said the same thing. Make sure you don't trim too much. There is an existing groove on the back side that seemed naural to cut along, and now I can see a little of the DIN cage. Wish I would have trimmed less. Other than that, It fits fine and looks good. It does exactly what its supposed to.

Useful but not universal; the instructions could be better
msljr from Austin, TX on 8/23/2010
1998 Honda Civic
I had Mike of Sacramento's experience: I didn't realize at first that the bracket was in two pieces that must be separated before you install the radio. The master sheet for my 98 Civic suggests that you use it all in one piece, and that's just not the case. The correct order should be: split bracket in two; put the rear half in the dash first; then install the DIN sleeve; then install the head unit; then install the outward-facing trim ring from the receiver bracket. Also, the outer trim ring that you'd normally use to finish off the installation may not work for all head units. The Sony CDX-GT700HD that I installed has a thick, fold-down faceplate that won't work with the outer trim ring from this bracket. The Sony trim ring mates perfectly with the rear half of the receiver bracket, however, so all is well.

Works perfect
Mike from Sacramento, CA on 8/23/2009
Works great. Only problem I ran into was I didn't realize that it was two pieces (one that is inserted before the radio is placed in the dash, one that snaps in after the radio is placed in). If I had either read the instructions, or looked at the piece a bit more closely, I would have done it right the first time. Once I installed it properly, the deck worked perfectly, even folded down for inserting CDs. I suspect some of the other people's problems may relate to this, or just different decks (mine is a Kenwood KDC-MP528). My only complaint and it is very small, is the texture of this piece is slightly different from the surrounding pieces, but it isn't a big distraction.

Modification necessary!
Eric from New Braunfels, Texas on 1/25/2009
1997 Honda Civic
A great looking product, easy to install but... I had to do MAJOR modifications for this to work with our Alpine CDA-9884 deck. The faceplate for the deck would not flip down due to interference between the buttons on the faceplate and the plastic trim. I had to shave off nearly 1/3 of the material on the trim to make the system work (for access to the CD player and for faceplate removal).

EJ from Louisville, KY on 2/19/2008

I ordered the dash trim kit for my '97 Civic to cover the areas where the stock radio used to cover, and installed it without a problem. I'm satisfied with the product, besides the fact that my Alpine receiver has a faceplate that folds down and this inside piece to the trim kit stops it from folding down to insert a CD. I kept the inside piece off and inserted a standard trim ring and it looks nice, better than before.
