Gets the job done. New pocket doesn't have the cover like the oem style does, but for something free included with a head unit purchase I can't complain. As others have noted, it will stick out slightly and isn't 100% flush like oem, but it's fine. You don't have to use all the parts it comes with.
Pros: Convenience
Cons: Not the clearest instructions to go along with it, but you can figure it out. I used a YouTube video.

Disappointing, but it's possible to make it fit.
Gregory from Port Angeles, WA on 9/4/2018
2005 Honda Civic
The piece isn't built to the right dimensions - it stuck out a solid 1/8th of an inch, maybe more, and was very noticeable to anyone, not just nitpickers. There are two factors. Less significant is the lip around the edge. It's about 0.230 inch whereas the factory bit is about 0.175. But the big problem is the depth of the retaining clips, because they determine how far in the piece sits (there is not only a clip to keep it in, but a flat post facing it that the clip pulls the lip against). The good news is it's fairly soft plastic and with a file you can bring the post down, the bad news is that makes the gap between clip and post too big so it isn't as tight. I folded masking tape to make a shim on the clip side after filing down the post. It took an hour+ of filing and futzing to make it fit good enough - not perfectly flush but pretty good. Then there is the trim ring, which leaves an unmissable gap between it and your head unit. Fortunately the trim ring that came with the head unit didn't have any gaps you could see through, although it's less tall and leaves it recessed overall. Overall content with how it looks and works after modifying it, but I was expecting something that actually fit (and if it isn't flush, it doesn't fit).
Pros: Free. Workable if you're willing to modify it. Plastic is soft so removing material isn't too bad.
Cons: Fit is poor, sticking way out from flush. Trim ring's internal hole is too big, leaving gap around head unit (head unit's trim ring may work).

Disappointing
Robert from Newnan, GA on 8/31/2018
2005 Honda Civic
This unit does not fit well at all in a 2005 Honda Civic Sedan. The tabs which hold the unit into the dash opening are moulded so poorly that the top of the panel sticks out almost the entire width of the mounting panel. It looks very aftermarket/backyard. Even if it fit properly it still does not blend well with the dash. Crutchfield sent me another one and it fit no better. The rep said that he would provide the information to research to see i there was a better option. I ended up using a similar kit for another maker which does fit better but still is a poor match. Disappointing that no one seems to produce a quality mounting kit for such a common car.
Pros: Well, it does hold the radio in the dash. Crutchfield service.
Cons: Dismal fit. Equally poor finish Doesn't even come close to matching dash finish. Poor design particularly if you want to ISO mount

It'll Work
Nathaniel from Reedley, CA on 10/8/2017
2005 Honda Civic
Definitely not the best dash kit. It's finish doesn't match very well and it doesn't fit completely flush with my dash(there us photo showing this). It also didn't fit entirely correctly with the radio I bought either, though this may have been because the screws to hold it in place were too short. It was a Dual XR4120 for reference. But after some improvising we got it to work. I plan to replace the Dual in time with something that has Bluetooth so hopefully that will fit better.
Pros: Does the job
Cons: May not fit flush Finish is a bit funky May not be able to properly mount radio you're using

This is fine, it fits, which is most important. The look in terms of plastic quality is not quite up to stock interior specs (for 2001 Honda Civic). For example the doored storage area below your stock stereo will now be a lower quality plastic opening. But it works. It was free. Can't complain.
Pros: fits. eases installation.
Cons: lower quality. loss of storage area with door (which is nice on a stock Honda Civic)

Decent Fit, Good Pocket
Rhett from Salt Lake City, UT on 1/2/2017
2003 Honda Civic
Fit well for the most part. Had to trim some plastic remains from the molding process and it didn't fit quite flush to the dashboard as I would like. Could have made some additional modifications to accomplish the flush fit but would have sacrificed the tight fit to do so. American International is an ok brand, on par with Scosche, but I'm a Metra fan.
Pros: Better than not having a kit. Fills the extra odd space left behind by the factory unit. Provides a pocket underneath instead of just blank wasted space.
Cons: Doesn't fit as flush to the dash as I would like, but I'm being nit-picky.

Gets the job done but not perfectly
Sam from Castlewood, VA on 12/21/2016
2004 Honda Civic
This dash kit does not fit flush; it sticks out roughly 1/16, and the finish does not match the factory either. The stereo unit I purchased has this cool carbon fiber look on the face-plate so I covered the dash kit in carbon fiber to match. That solved (hides) the problem of the look of the dash kit. Nothing can be done about the slight protrusion though which isn't too noticeable. I also reused the factory metal cradle (that secures the radio) instead of the plastic clips that come with the dash kit.
Pros: Okay fit, okay finish
Cons: Okay fit, okay finish

Poor quality, poor fitment
Jake from Denver, CO on 12/5/2016

Terrible fit and very poor quality plastic. The trim panel sticks out roughly 1/4" around the edge where the panel meets the dashboard. The grain of the plastic is extremely cheap-looking and does not match the adjacent stock plastics at all. In addition - very flimsy, the plastic cracked just to the right of the radio face location.
Pros: None
Cons: Terrible quality, poor plastic appearance, flimsy, poor fit

Civic Replacement Radio Trim
JoeS from Vero Beach, FL on 9/11/2016
2004 Honda Civic
Well made product and functional but t's visual appearance after install not ideal ; did not sit flush ( protruded about 1/16" ) and the trim face finish was uneven and did not blend well with the Honda dash. To help compensate for the deficiency I rubbed ( dulled ) the face trim finish slightly with mild abrasive to improve uniformity and then applied a light application of a plastic finish restorer ( i.e. Mother's M-Tech / ArmorAll ).
Pros: Robust plastic construction
Cons: Less than ideal fit & finish

Overall Satisfied
GReg from Pennsylvania on 4/28/2015
2004 Honda Civic
This product installs relatively easy. I'm confident I followed the directions but once installed in my 2004 Civic EX the adapter had a bit of a projected surface that made it seem it wasn't a perfect fit, or it could be installer error. Depending on what model receiver you have you may or may not need the side rails and front plate, it would be nice if this was mentioned in the instructions, however such matters may also be considered common sense. I cannot complain to much because it does it's job.

RBC from Bonaire, GA on 1/19/2015

I've not had to use a dash kit since the late 90's. I'm pretty sure the quality was higher back then. This dash kit does not fully sit flush with the dash. And the texture/finish of the plastic is not the same as my dash. I'm not sure why they didn't just make an adapter for the radio portion alone. This thing forces you to remove the stock compartment w/ door to an always open compartment. Needless to say, I'm not impressed.
Pros: It was free.
Cons: Fit, finish, design.

Its Okay...
Crutchfield customer from Navarre, FL on 11/10/2014

The item was easy to attach to the new radio but installation didn't go exactly smoothly. The main bezel has clips that attach to the frame of the stock radio cutout, and they don't seem to be in the best places. The bezel I received sticks out in certain places no matter how much I press on it. The clips are all locked into place so there is no chance that it will go in any further. I might have received a dud, but I was not happy about the gap that is around parts of the bezel after installation. I did get on chat with and explained my situation, but I was told to contact tech support. I didn't feel that this was necessary based on what I explained about the gap and the clips.
Pros: Easy to use
Cons: Doesn't fit well into the stock radio spot (Honda Civic).

Nate from Chico, CA on 9/1/2014
2001 Honda Civic EX
The mounting kit clipped in confidently but one side does not sit flush with the dash. It is a noticeably lighter shade and different texture than the black plastic of my 2001 Civic. The pocket is not as deep as the OEM pocket but thankfully doesn't have the holes in the back that I've heard of in other kits. A door like the OEM pocket would have been nice but understandably would have made the kit more expensive. It does it's job and it was cheap (thanks Crutchfield!) but in hindsight I would have preferred to spend more to find an OEM quality mounting kit (though I don't think those exist)
Pros: Cheap Easy to install Solid fit Has a storage pocket
Cons: Color and texture different from stock dash Fit isn't perfect, it doesn't sit flush on one side Storage pocket is shallow

Dimensionally the unit fits perfectly but sticks out about 16th of an inch. The insert lacks the CD door that the OEM has. The unit is a shade lighter then the OEM inclosure. The stereo seats not flush with the unit but a few degrees pointed up. I am not a picky person but I imagine someone who was would not be pleased with this installation package. For me my stereo is secure so the kit served its purpose.

2002 Honda Civic EX
Installed this in a 2002 Honda Civic EX with a Pioneer DEH-X6600BT. The color matches but the texture does not but it still looks nice. The instructions were pretty much useless. A simple diagram would have helped a great deal. I went for the ISO Mount install. First, the triangular mounting brackets do not fit - even after removing the locator posts in the dash panel - and the slots do not align with any of the screw holes in the radio. My advice - ditch the mounting brackets, don't bother cutting off the locator posts and use the screw holes in the steel mounting bracket. They line up perfectly with the screw holes in the radio. Done! The small rectangular pieces shown in the picture above - that reviewers here can't figure out what to do with - well, the manufacturer figured they were useless too as they are no longer included in the kit. The matching trim ring included with the kit does give the install a sleek look but it leaves a large gap along the bottom - the width of about two CDs.
Pros: - free - sleek looking & sturdy install
Cons: - poor instructions - included trim ring leaves a gap along bottom - useless parts included that made the install much more confusing than it needed to be

Fits decent, not quite flush on one side, but better then I expected.
Pros: Easy to install, color matches.
Cons: Not sure what the side triangle pieces were for, didn't seem to be any room for them anyway. Also the bin is smaller then the factory one.

Easy to install. Only complaint is that it isn't completely flush along the edges (at leas on my 01 civic). It sort of bulges out slightly on the left side. Other than that, the radio fits in quite tight and the color matches perfectly.
Pros: Easy to install & color matches the rest of the dash.
Cons: Not completely flush along the edges.

JoeB from Norcross, GA on 2/10/2014
2004 Honda Civic
The color matched quite nicely (was not specified at order time) and I have plenty of uses for the area below the radio (like holding the remote or other small accessories. My only issue is the mounting in the Honda makes the radio face point upward in stead of straight out. It provides a lot of reflection and difficult to use the remote for the radio.
Pros: Easy to install, good color match
Cons: Direction of radio seems to be upward instead of straight out.

Looks Great, Tight Fit
danf from Enterprise AL on 11/20/2013
2004 Honda Civic
This kit looks almost as good as the original equipment dash panel in my 2004 Honda Civic. My daughter loves that the little box below the radio doesn't have a door. That where she puts her connected phone. The instruction were weak. When it says 'sandwich' the side plates between the original steel frame - they aren't kidding. More than tight fit and needed screws to achieve final squeeze. Plan on being a little crafty with a box cuter.
Pros: Free, looks great from the drivers compartment
Cons: Instructions lacking and 'sandwiching' was exciting but worked.

I was very, VERY, concerned with how difficult the install process would be. I had never installed a car receiver before this. It was as simple as following the included directions and popping out the old receiver and plugging in the new one! No problems what-so-ever. The adapter kit fit perfectly (as they promised) and it looks incredible!
Pros: -Easy to install -FREE WITH PURCHASE OF MY RECEIVER -Seems to be of quality strength
Cons: -NONE

Not terrible
mattx900 from az on 9/1/2013
2002 Honda Civic LX
Pretty much every thing about this kit is an almost, the finish is almost nice, the fit was almost good, the instructions were almost OK. The finish is pretty cheap but it was free with my stereo so I guess I can't complain too much. It almost fit great in the console but there are definitely edges that protrude. I couldn't figure out for the life of me how the side supports were supposed to fit, on my car there just wasn't room for them between the deck and the steel support structure, period. Even if there was i would have had to modify them to meet the screw holes they are supposed to connect to, pretty disappointed at that cause i wasn't keen on not supporting the back of the deck at all, but that's what i had to do. The instructions are terrible, no pictures or diagrams whatsoever and the text is not clear enough, i wrestled with those side supports for 40 mins before giving up and moving on. Also the kit comes with these little rectangular pieces that look like they should be showing on the dash somewhere or something, but they don't tell you anything about what they are or where they should go, and I couldn't find anywhere for them. Oh yeah, the bin thing is kinda small too, I wish I could have kept the original bin with the door.
Pros: Free with my deck.
Cons: fit and finish are not great, poor instructions, pieces that don't fit where they are supposed to, pieces that don't seem to fit anywhere, and a small bin to boot.

Works Okay - Could be improved - Honda Civic
Royal from Dumfries, VA on 8/24/2013
2003 Honda Civic Hybrid
I guess the main problem with this product is the loss of storage space under the received. Factory assy has a door and will hold CDs. I can see no reason that this one could have a deeper pocket even without the door. The instructions were virtually useless. I couldn't use the side supports and the two small rectangle thingies would go anywhere. If I hadn't viewed a YouTube video on how to remove the Civic center console, I would have been totally lost. Lastly the standard DIN frame could/should have matched more that one hole in the new installation but it didn't. Maybe I did it wrong (but it works) but shouldn't I be sure based on the documentation? Oh, forget about the instructions to use the supplied faceplate rim instead of the receivers out of the box. It doesn't fit flush.
Pros: Fits the OEM space
Cons: Lousy instructions and needless loss of storage space under receiver

Pretty good Honda dash adapter, especially for the price
ClayH from Duluth, GA on 8/14/2013
2003 Honda Civic
I had no trouble setting the adapter up with the DIN / stereo, or placing it in the dash. I do dislike how the texture is rather different than the dash around it, and that it's not secured in any way - you can slide the whole panel out, though it does take a little work. The in-dash storage area is also a bit smaller than the OEM one it was replacing. But I'm willing to overlook these flaws because I got it free with my stereo :D
Pros: Good snug fit of both dash and stereo, price!
Cons: Mismatched textures, not well secured, less space.

Sturdy and Looks Great
Dave B from Raymore, MO on 6/20/2013
The kit fit perfectly in the dash of my son's 2002 Honda Civic. The DIN sleeve from the stereo fit nicely into the unit and seems to hold the stereo securely. I did not use the insert for the middle because it did not seem to need it. Also, without it the deck went in until it clicked and felt secure. The face trim on the stereo fit nicely just inside the main unit and all gaps are covered. I used the two triangle looking pieces but am not sure they were really needed. I did not use the two small square pieces as It was getting dark and I could not understand where exactly they were supposed to go. I am pleased with the installation, however, and it seems sturdy and solid in the dash.
Pros: Feels sturdy and looks nice. It actually looks like a factory part. It matches my dash perfectly.
Cons: None

Try to find a better option
KevinMc from Houston, TX on 6/15/2013
2003 Honda Civic Hybrid
This was used to install a Pioneer DEH-X6500BT in a 2003 Honda Civic Hybrid about 2 weeks ago. It does what it is intended to do, but no more. If it hadn't been free, might have returned it if there was a better option. It left me wishing I could install my head unit in the stock faceplate. Finish is black and pebbly and didn't match the car - the manufacturer had apparently never seen the car it was designed for. Worst, it requires a major sacrifice of storage space, as the compartment is much shallower than in the stock face, which was deep enough for a CD case and had a hinged cover. There is a gap around the head unit's face. Choosing between the mounting ring in the receiver kit or the head unit's ring just relocates the gap. Neither the Crutchfield nor the included instruction sheet met my expectations. For example, the Crutchfield sheet was silent as to how to mount a bluetooth microphone. Parts and instructions are why I bought from Crutchfield even though for a little more I could have had it installed by someone else right away. After this, I question my decision.
Pros: - Free - Allows installation of after-market head units
Cons: - Storage compartment worthless - Gap around head unit face plate - Installation instructions poor - Doesn't match car interior

Perfect fit
Semvhu from Cullman, AL on 11/13/2012
2005 Honda Civic
It fit perfectly in my dash. It was actually easier to install it than the stock version as it just clipped into place. It looks great even if it's a slightly different material than the rest of the dash; the dash itself is smooth and this piece is a more roughly textured piece of plastic, though I think it looks just fine. It matched the shape of the original precisely. I do wish it had a small swing down door on the front like the original piece, though. The inside is also very smooth and reflective, so if the sun happens to hit just right, it reflects right back at me and is distracting. I'll fix that with a piece of felt or other matte material glued to the back. Otherwise, the box holds my phone just fine. Being smooth, I could see it might fall out if I accelerate hard, but so far that hasn't happened. I may also glue a piece of less slick material to the bottom just in case.
Pros: Perfect fit, great look.
Cons: Glossy interior in the bottom box piece can reflect sunlight.

Perfect Fit for 2002 Honda Civic 4 Door
SonsDad from West Chester, PA on 10/2/2012
2002 Honda Civic DX
After more than an hour looking at various on-line sites with mixed reviews of other company's versions of this kit, I just felt it was worth an extra $5 to go with Crutchfield. I've been buying from them for more than 20 years, and everything has always worked the first time!! With this unit, you need to be careful about the angle at which the receiver enters this unit - If the bottom edge of the head unit enters first, the top edge won't go. Make sure you insert the head unit so the top edge enters this kit first, then push up and in to get the bottom edge to squeeze in - tight fit, but no need for shaping or sanding.
Pros: Once installed, looks great and could hardly fit better.
Cons: Installation is not quite "machine" quality - just take your time and be patient

50/50
DickF from The Triangle, NC on 8/25/2012
2001 Honda Civic LX
Installed this in my 2001 Civic LX. The unit is solid, the plastic being beefy it appears as if it should last. The fit into the console was great and fit extremely well into the dash panel. The problem was that the DIN mounting bracket fit loosely into the insert with no good place for the DIN locking tabs to hold it in place. Once the radios was installed it sagged so I ended up using screws to hold it in place so the convenience of the DIN mount is gone since I'll have to remove the dash panel to remove the radio. The trim insert was too small for the radio/bracket to go through so I had to remove that to mount the radio and there is a notable gap around the radio face plate. it's reasonable but obviously aftermarket. If I paid a shop to install it I would have had some issues with it - but with the kit being made for DIY it's not too bad.
Pros: Perfect fit into the car. Solid and secure.
Cons: Poor DIN mounting. Perhaps the ISO mount would have worked out a little better.

Jay D from Olympia, WA on 8/24/2012

Fit great in our 2005 Honda Civic. I agree with other reviewers, the texture is off, but given the cutout it fits, the different texture works. Also agree it would be nice if it had a door on the bottom box or at least the option to reuse the Honda "door" box with it... but all around, this is about the only way short of fabricating your own enclosure to get something to fit that goofy non-symmetric opening... worked great!
Pros: About the only option out there for the goofy Honda opening...
Cons: texture is slightly off and no option for a door on the bottom tray...

Look at reviews, This does not fit 2002 Civic Ex!
rcwithlime from Rochester NY on 7/2/2012
Crutchfield advisor stated this unit fit. After receipt, I found out that it does not. Has a gap all around the outer edges, not nice and tight fit shown in picture. Also, takes considerable amout of modification of factory part for this kit to work. Also, mounting brackets cannot be used. You have to drill a hole in both sides of the pocket into factory mounting bracket and bolt in place (using spacers) to hold the bottom of this in place. AND you need to sand down the bottom edge of the kit to make this fit. In short, if you are not very inventive and skilled at making modifications, don't have a dremmel and a lot of time, don't even think about this. I have used a great many of these install kits, and do know what I am doing. This kit does not fit.
Pros: If you have tools, considerable modification skills and a lot of time, You can rework this to fit.
Cons: Crutchfield advisor stated this unit fit. it does not! Gap all around the outer edges, not as shown in picture. Takes considerable modification of factory part for kit to work. I used this to install a Pioneer DEH-6400BT in my fiance's 02 Civix sedan. It made the mounting process pretty painless. It didn't fit *perfectly* flush in the dash, and as other reviews have said, it doesn't match the OEM trim surround texture. I'm curious if it didn't look flawless because the dash might have been warped over the past 10 years, or if it's a design flaw.
Pros: easy to use, fits the DIN kit well.
Cons: doesn't sit completely flush with dash. doesn't look as OEM (factory) as I'd like.

2001 Honda Civic EX
This kit came with the mounting bracket itself along with some other useless pieces of plastic that I don't know where to use. I was installing an Alpine CDE121 on my 2001 Civic and for an hour or so I was trying to figure out where the two triangular and two rectangular pieces go to. I ended up throwing them away and just shoved the receiver into the mounting bracket and it fit fine without a problem. The kit itself doesn't fit the factory center console perfectly and sticks out on some places. The material it is made out of looks cheap and brittle. Kinda looks like black styrofoam. The only reason why I bought this was because Crutchfield said I had to in order for the receiver to fit properly. It does fit fairly well, but the design, material, and instructions on how to install can be a lot better.
Pros: My receiver fits
Cons: Cheap looking, uglier than OEM, doesn't fit snugly into the center console, this price for this? Really?

Several reniwers seem less than satisfied with this kit. I don't really understand why. It is true that the texture does not EXACTLY match the dash, but the face of your new stereo doesn't, either. I even find the open pocket to be more useful than the OEM one. Ok it works. But that's it. The fit is poor, your dash looks worse after the install. Definately not professional looking. The replacement cubby box was all scratched up inside from the loose plastic parts in the bag. The headset is now too deeply recessed, the OEM surround sits below the dash, the kit replacement looks like cheap junk so I went with the OEM anyway.

Fogel from Palm Harbor, FL on 2/17/2012

This is a piece of junk. While it is nice that Crutchfield includes it, and I don't blame them for this, skip it. The manufacturer should have just stuck a blank piece of paper instead of instructions because the two are equal. It doesn't fit flush with the dash and it doesn't even match. As mentioned in another review it was asked why a company would make something for a specific vehicle and do it so half way. Again, this isn't the fault of Crutchfield, they tried to be nice by including this.
Pros: It was free
Cons: It was over priced

Cons: Well, my panel is smooth black plastic and this kit is rugged/grain kind of plastic with a different texture that it stands out. It looks bad.

Not stock but better than the rest

As a number of other people have said, this mounting kit isn't as good as the stock unit. However, I did research and purchase other mounting kits and this one ended up being my favorite. Other kits I got were more flimsy and didn't fit as well (I had trouble getting the edges flush). This kit isn't going to blow you away, but it is the best one I've found.

disappointing

It fits, but as many of the other reviews have said, it looks cheap. The finish has a different texture, and the color is slightly off. Plus, you lose the door below the stereo. I wish I would have looked around more before installing.

Very clean and easy installation, and looks great--as if it were provided by the factory.

Works, but not great

Fitment was ok, but not great. Texture of face didnt match factory dash opening either.Trim around head unit didnt fit, so I used the one that came with the stereo not the one that came with the receiver kit. But Crutchfield includes it free with purchases over a set amount so, I am not going to complaing about it.

Not as good as stock

The color is a poor match and the Civic storage door cannot be retained, other than that it is fine.

Good Fit

The kit was a good match. The color and fit was not perfect but was solid enough for my purpose. I had no trouble with the install.

American International HON-K809 Dash Kit
Richard W from California on 3/23/2011

Instructions are minimalist. Plastic mounts to screw the head unit into are obnoxious to make fit within the confines of the existing metal cage. The supplied surround leaves an ugly edge/gap around the head unit. So I sliced into it and mounted the head unit slightly farther out of the dash so the trim from the head unit could be used. Not a terrible product but could have been a lot better. I never did figure out what the 2 small squarish pieces were for.

Fits okay...

Seems to be made of a quality materials. The fit into the dash component is the 100% flush. Over all it looks alright. May require a small amount of modification to get it to sit flush with the dash like the OEM mount for the original stereo.

dissappointing
DougR from Quakertown, Pa on 3/2/2011
Product installed easily. Directions did not list what the extra parts were supposed to be used for. Not thrilled that the plastic is not of the same finish as the car: looks cheaper. Why can't they include a covered compartment on the bottom like the one that was there?
