Perfect match for my dash.
Daniel from ARAB, AL on 8/21/2023

I am impressed with the fit and finish of this dash kit. The finish matches the rest of the dash perfectly.
Pros: Perfect fit and color
Cons: Slightly confusing directions when you first read them. The spring clip and slide it on to this kit instead of screwing in. I would but this kit again.

Works as intended. Not as solid as stock metal mounts and silver color is a bit off. Could be because of UV impact on an older vehicle. Two small gripes for a kit that made installation very easy.
Pros: Makes install easy
Cons: Not perfect color match

The picture is not descriptive enough i had to kind of spend time a
Daniel from Bellflower, CA on 7/4/2023

I'd contact American International to be more descriptive in their documentation, as the documentation provided raised many questions and left pretty much everything to be figured out by the user. A simple example would be: The screws provided had different thread pitch than the ones on existing factory radio so was totally hesitant to use them but had to byte the bullet and took my chance since the screws on the factory radio were way to short. Then the wire harness does not control the buttons used to control the radio from the steering column. I'd at least mention so the user would know that the steering column radio control buttons are not going to be usable from just the harness provided. Bo, the tech support from Crutchfield, did offer an additional harness at additional cost that would add the capability.
Pros: Works, kind of
Cons: very flimsy not my choice if i would have options.

Poor Quality
George from Lincoln NE on 2/9/2023
2009 Toyota Camry
The TOYK980 was very disappointing. The side bracket tabs and main frame slot do not match up. They were off by about 1/16 of an inch. After checking with tech support at American International I was told to just press hard and follow the written instructions. Crutchfield tech support said to just press REALLY HARD and if the tabs break they will send a replacement. Well, I pressed really hard and two of the most misaligned tabs broke. I was able to do some tinkering and finally was able to mount my unit in the dash. I needed to be able to drive my car, so I didn't want to wait for a replacement, which would probably suffer from the same manufacturing defect. Since this kit has gotten some good reviews some of the the stuff from their factory must come out OK, but mine must have been made on a bad day. Unfortunately, many US companies with factories overseas do not perform due diligence about quality control so junk like I got is the result. Wish Crutchfield would get a different vendor for the installation kits. The two tech support at Crutchfield I spoke with were 5 Stars.
Pros: None
Cons: Very poor tolerance, brittle weak plastic, useless tech support

The assembly instructions could use better details and information. Overall, I took my time and carefully assembled. I could see that you are aggressive and use a lot of pressure it would be easy to warp or break the plastic. I would suggest take your time and don't force anything into place. Once it is installed it looks great and fits very well. It came with all the hardware to cover most aftermarket radio installations for both Single and Double DIN.

Feels flimsy as you put it together, but once installed, is plenty sturdy. Silver is ever-so-slightly off. The extra bevel at the bottom makes it look much better than the other brands. I used this for my 2011 Camry Hybrid to mount a floating screen single din AV system. It fits, but instructions were not clear. I wish that instead of the pocket, they would give a part to just cover the space up, since my pocket is blocked by my new AV system's screen. Here's the order I did my assembly: 1. For the spacers, there are two grooves that will snap into the two holes in each of the mounting bracket on the inside. 2. Attach climate control under the main frame. The bottom of the frame has hooks which will attach to grooves at the top of your climate control (have to attach it offset first, then slide to the side to lock it). 3. At the bottom sides of the each mounting bracket, there are two holes and two grooves, which corresponds with the holes and grooves on the sides of my climate control. I screwed my climate control (with the main frame attached) on with the two diagonal holes. 4. I placed my radio in between the two spacers and screwed it in. 5. I inserted the pocket last
Pros: * Color matches the interior
Cons: * Unclear instructions, they need to label their parts and include more details on where to fit the spacers * Only has pocket for top part * Pocket is cheap plastic, so its a little bent and has a slight sliver of space between it and the radio

Fit the bill
Skunk from WI on 7/16/2019
2011 Toyota Camry
Fit and finish is near perfect, but I am very particular, and it wasn't perfect. Crutchfield's customer service excelled here, and they sent me a new kit free of charge. The color silver for my Camry is slightly off, and the durabiltiy of the finish is not there. Now to be fair, Toyota's factory finish durability is poor too. The one kit received had mold flashing that was not cleaned up prior to painting, and if removed caused unpainted areas, and if left, look like poor quality. Overall very pleased with this kit, and I was able to reuse the factory stereo brackets, giving me a perfect alignment of my DDIN deck.
Pros: Color was close Looks near factory Can reuse OE bracketry
Cons: Color is close Finish durability

Forget the flimsy side pieces when used to install a double din.
Dave from Helmetta, NJ on 3/10/2019
No need for the flimsy plastic sides that come with it if you're installing a double din (at least in my case). Just use the metal side brackets off the factory radio. Much sturdier and puts radio in the perfect position for this kits trim piece. My situation was putting a pioneer avh-2440nex into a 2009 Camry LE. Pretty straight forward. Looks really nice after install, the silver color on mine matched up perfect. The only other thing I'd recommend would If your headunit comes with a usb extension, buy a PAC USB-DMA flush mount adapter and drill it anywhere to make it look like the factory put a usb there instead of leaving the wire dangling.

Looks great, but as many have said, instructions could be clearer
Larry from Dublin, OH on 8/9/2017
2010 Toyota Camry
I had my Pioneer in a 2002 Camry but recently "upgraded" to a 2010 Camry. The nice thing was the wiring harness was the same so all I needed to order was this kit. As many have said, be patient and cautious as you are taking things apart and all will be good. I didn't realize that the 2010 Camry has an amplified antenna connection so I had to reopen the dash after finishing the first time (poor to no reception). The second time I knew what I was doing and it literally took 10 minutes to pull it out, make the antenna connection, and get it all back together. Crutchfield phone support was great when discussing my reception issue (not related to this kit, but to my radio and the car). I found the color to be a perfect match and everything fit nice and tight. A really great experience, but one I've come to expect from Crutchfield.
Pros: Perfect color match Near perfect fit Easy to install once everything clicked..
Cons: Instructions a bit lacking, but patience (and YouTube) made all OK

Allow For Flashing and Stereo Opening Issues
John from Vine Grove, KY on 2/28/2017
2007 Toyota Camry
I ordered the sliver kit to match the dash of the Camry I was installing a stereo in. The color was perfect. Everything I needed to install the stereo was present. The instructions could have been clearer and there was at least one term I didn't know the definition of (which I can't remember now) but with the help of youtube AND the provided instruction sheet, the installation was a success. HOWEVER, there were a couple of issues. There was flashing on the right side of the dash fascia...and because it was painted, I could NOT sand it off without removing the paint. So the flashing remains to my frustration. The coworker I installed it for may never notice, but it sticks out to me. I installed a single din unit with a removable faceplate (Sony) into the assembled dash kit. I slid the assembled kit into the dash of the car and tightened everything up, put everything in the dash area back together. After being tightly secured, the stereo was just a wee too far to the right for the faceplate to snap into place on the stereo! I've installed several stereos and kits and was surprised this happened. No amount of tugging and knocking would move the stereo. I had to file a bit if the opening of the kit with a pocket knife to get the faceplate on. It's too tight for my taste. Warning to future installers of this kit--make sure you have lee way on both sides of the stereo to allow for shrinkage. You may have to use a couple of thin washers to be sure.
Pros: Color and fit for dash is great.
Cons: Mine had flashing which I couldn't file (due to paint) and the stereo opening was 1-2 mm across too small.

Excellent color match to the OEM Camry interior. Even with the horrible instructions it went in fairly easy. Had to do some trial and a lot of error to get the radio positioned just right.
Pros: Nice color match
Cons: Read cooking instructions on a frozen Pizza...they will be better for installing this kit than the ones included.

Made the pioneer avh-x3800bhs look even better than the old kit from another seller. I had a scosche kit before with the pioneer fh-820bs. That kit is only good with that radio. Once I upgraded to the DVD radio, the. Fit was poor so I went looking for another kit. Finally decide the american international over the Metra since I had good luck. Fit was more better and it blends in with the stock look. The scosche was too tight with the factory brackets, but using all the parts off the new kit was best.

Good kit, instructions could be more clear.
Marc from Cumberland, RI on 1/1/2017
2010 Toyota Camry
I used this to install a Pioneer AVH-X3800BHS in my wife's 2010 Toyota Camry. It worked great and would have given it 5 stars if the instructions had been a little more clear. The radio wouldn't fit properly because of two plastic tabs on the side brackets that were at the rear of the radio. I had to call Crutchfield support and the technician said they were for supporting the rear of the radio, but in my case to just snap them off. I ended up using a coping saw I had and gently sawed the two tabs off. Once I did that I could fit the radio fine. There were also two oval plastic brackets that were included. But you don't need them for the double DIN install. I asked the technician and they explained that. It all ended up fitting perfect. Very happy with the purchase.
Pros: Works as expected, unit is secure and fits well.
Cons: Plastic tabs that had to be cut off caused extra install time.

Barely fits
Dwight from Rogers, AR on 12/12/2016
2009 Toyota Camry Hybrid
Works ok, but didn't quite fit the head unit I ordered it with. Said ti was comparable, but really isn't. It works, just does not fit securely. You really need to find a different dash kit to fit the Camry as the head unit and even the extra slot does not fit perfectly. It did go together fine in the end and things don't move, it's just jammed in the dash and the unit isn't attached to the faceplate that came with the dash kit. Strange that it doesn't fit, but it works somehow.
Pros:
Cons: front faceplate doesn't attach to the head unit, is loose.

Overall this kit does the job. The finished fit is excellent, and pretty easy to get together. Not really happy how the side pieces attach too. I think this aspect could have been sporadic her in a much more robust fashion. Other than that it's a great kit!
Pros: Great looking kit once it's installed.
Cons: The side pieces aren't held to the face plate by much at all. I have my reservations about this .

Despite the support pieces all being plastic, this kit actually works quite well and is surprisingly solid once it's installed. It took a little trial and error to line the head unit (double din) up just right, but nothing major. Most importantly (to me at least) is that the color PERFECTLY matches the surrounding dash. The styling also helps to make an aftermarket head unit not look so strange (other brands are basically just a flat plate).
Pros: Keeps head unit solidly in place. Color perfectly matches dash. Much more stylish than other brands.
Cons: It would be nice if it were available for single din without that useless/ugly pocket.

Flimsy
Alexander from Grand Rapids, MI on 5/25/2016
2007 Toyota Camry
Plastic breaks off this thing really easily. Installing my receiver was a huge pain because you have to mount the deck to the plastic pieces, then install it, then adjust how the deck sits in the mounts, then take it out, reseat the deck in the mounts, then reinstall it to see if it's seated right, then take it out if it isn't...it took forever to get my receiver installed. Then after everything was finally right, when I was connecting this to my temperature controls unit, the plastic broke right off. I'm sad I spent money on this thing.
Pros: It's finally installed. . . .
Cons: Took forever to install (see main review), flimsy plastic, not worth the money for sure.

Great Kit, poor instructions
jason from claremont, nh on 5/23/2016
2011 Toyota Camry
what can I say American international has always been poor quality since I was doing installs for circuit city back in the 90's however I was somewhat impressed with this kit. the color choice was nice and matched my silver a/c controls. the rear tabs in the inside top of the kit had to be cut off to fit two din units, the step in the side pieces where you have to put the oval spacers makes the screws too short so I had to remove the spacers. the a/c controls slid together with the kit nicely and the screw holes and pins lined up perfectly. after pressing the kit into place and tightening the 10mm bolts the top edge was not flush with the soft dash sides but when the vents were popped back into place they pulled the top edge back making for a very nice looking fit. way to go American International I am very impressed with how far you have come along. I always preferred Metra mounting kits and was hesitant to get yours but I am completely satisfied.
Pros: A/C controls bolt to kit allowing for the whole unit to snap into place just like the OEM head unit assembly. Looks good in the dash, silver matches OEM dash color, sides are now button free and looks cleaner then the OEM unit
Cons: poor instructions, step in side brackets require spacers and then screws are not long enough, rear inside tabs on top section have to be removed, don't know why they were there in first place, should supply clips as kit takes 4 and OEM only has two available to transplant

Cons: All components are plastic so you do need to be careful to not break something while putting it together

TOYK980 Dash Kit
Dave from Birmingham, AL on 3/14/2016

Excellent fit - Instructions where a little vague describing removal of car parts with no frame of reference (no pictures). There was a mistake with the disassembly of the old radio bracket - the climate control module did not pull straight out like described, it needed to be pushed left and up. It took some fiddling to figure this out. The entire side brackets had to be removed first to get this part out.
Pros: Excellent fit, looks good
Cons: Instructions need to be corrected, but if you take your time and don't force anything, it will be obvious once you get your hands on it.

This mounting kit works well in our 2007 toyota camry. The instructions were almost useless. It took me quite some time to figure out how to put this together, not having done this sort of thing before. I also had to file the sides of the front face plate as it was slightly too small for the radio I had bought. Clear directions should first label all of the parts in the package and then use those terms consistently do describe the assembly process. These instructions do not do that.
Pros: Fits. Works.
Cons: The included directions are not helpful.

Twas the proverbial piece-of-cake... once I figured-out that the dashed-lines (that indicate where front-&-sides snap-together) weren't exactly precise. A photo of the "Rubik's_Cube" type of snapping-together would have saved me some head scratching! Otherwise, nice fit and appearance. Several decades ago, I said that I would never work on one of my own vehicles again. Glad I opted to give this the 'old college try'...!
Pros: Made like O.E.M. , what else needs said?
Cons: If I were 30 years younger, the "snap-fit" probably would NOT have seemed so difficult ("ok", that isn't much of a "con").

Fits nice, but instructions wrong
Brian W from Pennsylvania on 11/24/2015
2007 Toyota Camry
Once installed, this installation kit looks great and fits in the dash quite well. I have two concerns with the instructions however. First off, I used mine with a single din device, which meant I needed to use the pocket that came with it. The instructions show and tell you to install the pocket on the bottom, but for the 2007 Toyota Camry, it actually needs to be on the top. Not a big deal, but it confused me for several minutes. The second issue is that it is not very clear by the directions on how to install the side "flaps". The diagrams show the unit from the front, but the flaps need installed in the rear, and it's pretty unclear on how to do this. I was afraid the plastic was going to break.
Pros: Nice fit, looks great in the car.
Cons: Instructions have a bit to be desired. Could be more clear and correct.

Does the job. Fits into car no problem. There are some minor flaws in the plastic. Making it look like there are dents on the face. Used it for a single din stereo and the pocket doesn't quite attach right. It sits out further than the rest and had to bend the tabs it screws into.
Pros: Holds the stereo and fits the car opening.
Cons: Cosmetically imperfect. Looks beat up and its brand new. Pocket doesn't install well.

Works Fine
Dr.GoodCar from Strongsville, Ohio on 6/14/2015
2007 Toyota Camry
This is a good looking easy to use dash kit. I installed this kit into a 2007 Toyota Camry and it looks very nice replacing the factory radio. I did however feel that when installing a single din radio the spare compartment included is pretty difficult to snap into place. This actually took me longer than almost any other part of the install. I DID get it to work and look perfectly fine. Also I'm used to the spare compartment being beneath the radio. This one installs above the radio only. The only other small thing that bothered me was that the Camry I installed this into is very gray. The headliner is gray along with the dash and seats and the climate control is more of a cream color or white even. The dash kit is pure black. It looks okay but could have liked a lot nicer if it matched the rest of the color theme.
Pros: Easy to use. Fits perfectly, no gaps. Diecently priced. Use single or double din head unit.
Cons: Spare compartment hard to install. Color isn't the greatest match with interior.

2008 Camry, flawless
Dan from Alabama on 5/24/2015
2008 Toyota Camry
JVC Double Din Install. Perfectly matched color and design. It took a little adjusting, then re-adjusting, and adjusting some more before it was a perfect fit, but it was worth it. Looks about as factory as you can get. Don't forget to re-use the yellow clips from the factory stereo. Directions aren't perfect but 99% of most people will figure it out after tinkering with it a bit. I've used about 30 different dash kits in my life and this one is among the best.
Pros: Color match - perfect Fit and finish - perfect How it looks compared to OEM - like it was designed by Toyota.
Cons: I've never understood why those little slide brackets are included. The supplied screws aren't long enough to use them., and its not even close. Am I missing something? I had to remove and re-install because I originally slid the radio about 1/8" too far forward at first, and it didn't quite snap into place perfectly in the dash. I removed the unit and slid the radio back 1/8" and it snapped into the dash perfectly.

Looks fine installed, but I had to trim about 1/8" off the bottom of the cubby pocket in order to get it to fit properly in the dash. Not too big of a deal, but definitely would rather not have had to do that. Luckily the plastic is easy to shave off with a utility knife.
Pros: Silver matches the factory Toyota Camry silver very well
Cons: Didn't fit out of the box; had to trim the bottom of the cubby pocket...

Just okay for me
Hal from Georgia on 1/15/2015
2011 Toyota Camry
Like another reviewer, I replaced the OEM radio in a 2011 Camry LE with a double din aftermarket radio (Pioneer FH-X820BS). I found that the plastic mounting brackets were too flimsy for comfort so I re-used the factory brackets. What I 'lost' by doing this was the ability to adjust the position of the radio so it now 'protrudes' about 1/4" so in that position it is not as flush as I would like but I think I can live with it. The finish does not quite match as it is just a shade darker and has more of a matte sheen than the original. Again it is something I can live with. The fit is perfect as relates to the dash itself.
Pros: Acceptable
Cons: Had I purchased it locally I probably would have returned it for the reasons mentioned above.

Just perfect!
Mike In Orlando, Florida from Orlando, Florida on 1/10/2015
If you're swapping out the OEM stereo in your 2007-2011 Toyota Camry for a double DIN aftermarket unit, use of this kit will leave you with a truly factory looking upgrade. I used this kit on our 2011 Camry LE, and was very pleased with the results. Fit and finish are top notch, and it matches the interior trim almost perfectly. One thing to note though is you're likely to only use the silver (or black) trim bezel out of the package, as you can easily reuse the stock OEM metal mounting brackets (preferred over the plastic brackets included in the kit). Do yourself a favor and go online to watch a couple videos on how the center console and dash come apart. Its not difficult, but there is a sequence/process that should be followed. If you're upgrading radios, this is a must have part of that process.
Pros: Well designed, fit and finish are excellent, trim color is spot on.
Cons: None that I can think of.
