Bose Companion2 Series III speaker system

Desktop convenience

Bose's TrueSpace® signal processing is the key — it creates a broad soundstage from speakers spaced no further apart than the width of your computer monitor or laptop. You'll hear improved warmth and detail from your MP3s and streaming audio, and added punch from your computer games and DVDs. Two sets of audio inputs let you hook up an additional source, like a portable MP3 player, without having to disconnect the speakers from your computer. A handy front-panel headphone jack makes private headphone listening easy for those times when you don't wish to disturb others.

Features

Powered Computer Speakers: The Bose Companion 2 is a two-piece computer speaker system (Left & Right speakers) that reproduces full, natural sound at your computer. The Bose Companion 2 will dramatically improve the audio from your computer, while its sleek, space-saving design complements your computer environment.

TrueSpace Technology: The Bose Companion 2 speaker system features TrueSpace stereo signal processing circuitry. This proprietary technology helps maximize audio performance by widening the image of closely placed speakers, making the audio seem to come from a soundstage wider than the two speakers.

Ported Cabinets: Each speaker features a rear-panel 3/4" diameter port to provide clearer, deeper bass from a small enclosure.

Automatic Tone Adjustment: The Companion 2 speakers automatically adjusts the tonal balance to give you rich audio performance at practically any listening level.

Dual Inputs: The Bose Companion 2 has two 3.5mm aux inputs. These dual analog inputs allow you keep the speakers hooked up to your computer, while you use the second input to hook up another source, such as a portable audio device. The dual 3.5mm aux inputs are located on the back of the same speaker. One 46" stereo audio minijack cable is included.

Headphone Jack: The right speaker is fitted with a front-panel 3.5mm headphone output; the speakers are muted when headphones are plugged in.

Tethered Speaker Connection: The left speaker features an attached 6' audio cable with a proprietary connector which plugs into the rear-panel proprietary port on back of the rear speaker (labeled "To Left Speaker").

Volume Control: The volume control is conveniently located on the front of the right speaker, giving you easy access. On your computer or an optional sound source, set the volume at about two-thirds the maximum volume. Then use the knob on the right speaker to adjust the volume as you listen.

Angled Design + Magnetically Shielded: The angled design of these speakers allows them to direct sound upward toward a seated listener. So placing them on a desktop is a good choice. Magnetic shielding protects your computer monitor from interference when the speakers are positioned close to it.

AC Power Supply: The Bose Companion 2 operates off of standard household AC current using the supplied AC power adapter. The AC power adapter plugs into the back of the right speaker.

  • Input: 100-240V ~ 50/60Hz, 600mA
  • Output: 12V - 1800mA

Q
Can I connect my Bose Companion Series 2 speakers to my Vizio TV?
kevin  Jun 15, 2022
1 answer
A
If your Vizio TV has an a analog (RC or 3.5mm) audio output, these can be connected with the correct cables.
thomas  Jun 15, 2022 (Staff)
Q
How do I add a subwoofer to Bose Companion 2 Series III speakers?
shawn  Oct 30, 2021
1 answer
A
These speakers do not have an output to send audio to a subwoofer and are not designed to be used with a powered subwoofer. However, some powered subwoofers have audio outputs so they could be used with these speakers as long as the audio source (i.e. computer, etc..) has the ability to control the volume level. I recommend contacting an advisor by calling 1-800-324-9695 to check if your application will work and get a recommendation on a powered subwoofer with the proper inputs and outputs to work

Q
Are the Bose Companion 2 Series III Multimedia Speakers compatible with Windows 10?
kent  Dec 19, 2020
4 answers
A
yes. the operating system of the computer [window 10] has nothing to do with the function or connectivity of the speaker to the computer. if the motherboard (back of your computer or laptop) accepts the standard 3.5mm audio connector and it be marked as green then that's all that's needed to connect the speakers and for them to work
ronald  Dec 23, 2020
A
yes they are...these are good speakers with great clarity, but if you like bass you need to get a set with a subwoofer
brooks  Dec 20, 2020
A
Yes
richard  Dec 19, 2020
A
Yes they are
mark  Dec 19, 2020
Q
Can these speakers be used with audio technica turntable?
gina  Mar 28, 2020
2 answers
A
as long as the audio input jacks are the same then yes they will work
john  Mar 28, 2020
A
I have no idea.
priscilla  Mar 28, 2020
Q
What type, material, and size are the drivers?
richard  Dec 10, 2019
3 answers
A
Bose does not release the specifications, or materials used in the construction of their speakers.
thomas  Dec 23, 2019 (Staff)
A
The drivers, like all Bose speaker systems, are small and cheap; but the sound is okay For the price. The speakers I really wanted were 4 x's as expensive.
john  Dec 23, 2019
A
I don't have the slightest idea. I suggest you ask the staff at Crutchfield.
charles  Dec 23, 2019
Q
is sound quality the same if they're on their side or upside down? I have limited space and seeing if i can put them under my monitors on their side? Thanks
j  Sep 28, 2016
3 answers
A
Regardless of horizontal or vertical placement it should sound the same. The speaker shoes add some bass response. But if you really want to improve sound for a computer invest in audio engine 2 worth the price.
william  Sep 29, 2016
A
I'm not sure that really matters. Wouldn't the sound be produced all the same? I'm no expert but I think you'll be ok
eric  Sep 28, 2016
A
I don't have the same space issue, but these should work just the same on the side. Just remember that there is a slight angle on the side, so the speaker will have a slight upward angle - almost identical to the angle for the vertical position.
david  Sep 28, 2016
Q
do the speakers power down when no input signal is received or are they on all the time?
marc  Jan 01, 2015
5 answers
A
awesome for the price!
david g  Jan 05, 2015
A
I assume that they stay on. There is no indicator light, which would be nice... I usually try to keep them turned off when not in use.
gary m  Jan 05, 2015
A
I do not believe the unit powers down. However I would imagine it draws very little current when not active. These are very good speakers. I use them all day at work.
charles  Jan 05, 2015
A
Hey Marc, The speakers are on all the time unless you turn the knob counter clockwise to power them off, However, if left on and there is no active input signal received, there will not be an annoying sound. So you can leave them turned on at all times, since the volume/mute/sound controls can be controlled through whatever device is connected to the speakers. I hope this helps.
j.  Jan 04, 2015
A
The volume knob when turned all the way to the left is the on/off switch. To answer your question if the switch is on all the time the speakers are powered.
barry j  Jan 04, 2015
Q
Is there a cable available to extend the left speaker? I need longer than the hardwired 6 foot it comes with. I was surprised to see the used what appears to be a power type connection on it
mark  Jul 20, 2014
1 answer
A
I forwarded your question to an Advisor and they responded with the following: I am unaware of any extension for the left speaker audio cable. Bose uses a proprietary connection for that. If they make one, you are probably going to need to get it from Bose. You can contact their service and parts department at 800-367-4008. If you would like to discuss further you can contact an Advisor directly by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat.

Q
Will this work with my kindle?
dale  Mar 16, 2014
8 answers
A
Yes, they'll plug into any device with a 3.5 millimeter headphone jack.
vincent  Apr 09, 2014
A
The speakers plug into anything with the small audio out plug like a headphone out plug .they work on my Apple IPad headphone plug and I have them plugged into the same sized audio out plug on the back of my flat screen TV .
michael j.  Mar 17, 2014
A
Hi Dale: I don't know. These are self powered speakers that accept only 1/8 inch stereo jack. So I don't see how to connect the Kindle to them.
harry  Mar 16, 2014
A
If ur kindle has a audio out put then answer to ur question is yes.
gerarda  Mar 16, 2014
A
I am not 100% sure but I don't see why it shouldn't as it's power source is totally independent of your Kindle.
fred  Mar 16, 2014
A
I am not familiar with the kindle, however if it has a headphone "out" plug in like on your computer or almost everything else now a days it will work and sound sweet
robert  Mar 16, 2014
A
No idea. Don't have a Kindle and you did not say which model you have. Seems there are several models with different possibilities. I'm using my speakers for computer.
beverly  Mar 16, 2014
A
yes if your kindle has an audio out earphone jack .
marvin  Mar 16, 2014
Q
Is everything I need in the box? I'm looking to get these for my laptop and wondering if I need to buy anything extra like cables in order to hook these up to my laptop and be ready to listen.
kelly  Feb 26, 2014
21 answers
A
Everything you need to connect these to the headphone jack on your computer will be included.
vincent  Apr 09, 2014
A
Open the box and hook them up. It's as easy as that. They are great speakers I use when watching blu-rays on my computer or listening to music. Great for gaming too.
chris gustavson  Mar 01, 2014
A
Everything is included in the box to hook it up to your laptop.
jared  Feb 28, 2014
A
Everything you need is in the box. You can definitely hook these up to your laptop and be ready to listen immediately. There are some options you can consider in the future: e.g.- You can buy a longer cable if you want to spread the speakers out farther than 6 feet. Or you can buy an extra cable if you want to leave the speakers hooked to your laptop while attaching a MP3 player to the auxiliary input.
mark  Feb 28, 2014
A
There is a basic mini-plug to mini-plug cable in the box that should suffice. If you want a higher-end cable, look at the Monster Cable AI 800 MINI-7. Good computer speakers!
russell  Feb 27, 2014
A
Sorry. I bought as gift and don't know.
rick  Feb 27, 2014
A
Everything's in the box: power supply, speaker-to-speaker cable, and a stereo cable that links the control speaker to the 1/8" headphone jack on your laptop.
vincent  Feb 27, 2014
A
Yes, everything is in the box and ready to go. However you may want to buy a longer audio cable that connects to the computer.
weldon  Feb 27, 2014
A
Everything you need is in the box. UNLESS, you plan on adding something else (ie. mp3 player, etc.), then you would need a cable.
greg  Feb 27, 2014
A
Everything is indeed included. The Audio input cable plugs right into the headphone jack of the laptop or PC. It is a short cable----only around 36 inches; I'm sure it can be extended with any standard compatible cable. The system has an awesome sound, you will love it! W
william  Feb 27, 2014

My wife was extremely pleased with the Bose Speakers. From unwraping her birthday present and cranking up the quality sound system was less than 5 minutes. Everything you will need is there.
david g  Feb 27, 2014
A
Everything is in the box and they are a great set of speakers by the way.
eric  Feb 27, 2014

Everything was with it . Had it up & running within 5 minutes. That even including her unwraping the birthday paper!
david g  Feb 27, 2014

Everything we needed to connect to our desktop was in the box! Great speaker system, Great sound!
barry m  Feb 27, 2014
A
I bought the speaker set as a Xmas gift for my daughter across the country where they were shipped direct. She is very happy with them and, as far as I know, did not have to buy any add'l material.
david  Feb 27, 2014
A
Everything you will need is in the box. I use these on my laptop and they sound much better than the laptop speakers!
hugh  Feb 27, 2014
A
Package is complete. Nothing else required for hook-up. Speakers are top quality, good sound.
calvin  Feb 27, 2014
A
Yes, everything I needed was included. The system has three cables included, AC power, cable to other speaker, and mini-RCA (I think its called) to connect to my PC. This is a great speaker set, I am very happy with it. I use them all day while I work at my PC.
charles  Feb 27, 2014
A
I bought these with the intention of using on my new laptop and is just recently discoverer I have not been able to use yet because the laptop is equipped with Windows 8 and I can't do a thing with it. If I had bothered to check my desktop at work I would have realized we are on Microsoft Windows 7 Professional and that is what I should have bought likewise. I have to get in touch with HP tech yet to see if they can bring it down to Micro 7 remotely or if I have to buy the software and reinstall. I received new desktop last October and that has had me literally "learning how to walk all over again" because I have to go through more steps to do the same thing, such is life....
john  Feb 27, 2014
A
Everything is in box and ready to go.
james  Feb 27, 2014
A
It is complete for your application.

Q
Can the volume be adjusted by changing TV volume or only with volume knob on speaker?
jody  Feb 20, 2014
9 answers
A
Set the TV to a comfortable volume, then use the volume knob to adjust to the best listening level.
vincent  Apr 09, 2014
A
I've only used the knob. Sadly there's no remote control device,
ozell  Mar 10, 2014
A
I am currently using this pair of speakers on my computer, and I can adjust the volume thru the computer controls and the volume knob. As far as working with a TV, I think it will depend on the model of TV you have. On my flat screen, when I installed a speaker bar using a fiber optic cable, the out-put volume of the TV was locked in the middle of the volume range and I can only adjust the volume with the speaker remote. But that might just be my model of TV
raymond  Feb 22, 2014
A
Set the TV volume at a comfortable listening level, then enhance the sound quality by turning on the Bose. Then when you adjust or mute the sound through the TV remote the input to the Bose speakers is affected and will adjust too.
gary  Feb 21, 2014
A
I do not believe these speakers will work with TV volume. They are made for connection with a computer. But to answer your question more properly, please contact Bose product support on the web.
frank  Feb 21, 2014
A
Either way. If you want to use the volume control on your computer or TV it's best to leave the volume on the speaker turned up high to allow full range from the source control.
lyn d  Feb 21, 2014
A
Mine are hooked up to my computer (Mac) and the speaker volume can be adjusted by changing the sound volume on my computer.
brigitte  Feb 21, 2014
A
Only the knob on the speaker
peter  Feb 21, 2014
A
I only have them hooked on my computer and you can do both...from the speaker anf media player. I assume that if you installed them directly on your tv they would act the same.
roberto  Feb 21, 2014

Yes, power must be applied in order for these speakers to work.
