Yamaha CD-S1200 CD Player
Crutchfield customer from TROY, OH on 2/13/2023
A well built solid unit, big and heavy. The fit and finish is immaculate, with all of the controls feeling high quality. Comparing the sound to the old BluRay player I had been using is the difference between night and day using the same material. From what I can tell the DAC is doing a fantastic job. The printing on the face plate is rather small and hard for me to read without getting close. The readout could definitely be better, as it appears crude compared to what is available on many devices today. The remote is the same, with tiny buttons and printing. The tray mechanism is fairly smooth, but not the quietest I've heard. It seems really slow to read the disc once loaded, and switching layers between CD and SACD on a hybrid disc takes so long it seems pointless to try an A/B comparison. The balanced connectors are nice and I'm using XLR cables into my A-S3200 integrated amp. I think it's a pretty good player, but this is a lot of money when you can get a decent one much less expensive. But then again, at least it's half the price of the CD-S3000.

Yamaha CD-S2100
Thomas from Lavigny, Switzerland on 12/23/2022
Merci Yamaha.

Slightly disappointed.
Rafael from Santa Rosa, CA on 10/6/2022
Long time Yamaha loyalist upgraded from the Yamaha CDC-845 changer to this unit on 7/19/22. Wanted an upgrade in keeping with other improvements in my analog system, Primaluna EVO 300 integrated amplifier, GoldenEar Triton Reference speakers, Music Hall MMF 9.3 TT, Ortofon 2M Black cartridge, Vincent PHO 701 phonostage, Blue Jean cables in a completely acoustically treated room. Found that this unit wasn't reading the SACDs correctly and wouldn't allow for layer change. I Liked it and wanted to keep it so I sent it off to Yamaha under warranty for diagnosis and repair rather then send it back to Crutchfield before the 60 day return window expired. Unit was returned and needed a new loading mechanism as well as a new control module. Now, working well and sounds wonderful. Would appreciate a longer warranty period.
Pros: Build quality, appearance, sound quality, reputation.
Cons: initial quality lacking.

Excellent SACD/CD player !
Charles from Corinth, TX on 8/28/2022
Outstanding SACD/CD player. Matches well with my Yamaha A-S2200 integrated amplifier. This SACD player is my best music source, winning out over high res streaming services.
Pros: Build quality. Sound quality. Excellent bang-for-the-buck.
Cons: Nothing related to the player. It can be challenging and expensive to find/purchase SACDs.

Great sounding player but random transport problems
Ralph from Wakefield, MA on 7/28/2022
An absolutely wonderful sounding CD/SACD player. I had it for three days and during that time it would play one CD or SACD after another with no issue. And then it would not play a disc at all. When I closed the tray with a disc the display would only say CLOSE and never go to LOADING. It may have been the same disc it just played. There were times that it would load and play 10 or 12 discs in a row and then without warning it would refuse to read any disc at all. Very random, totally unpredictable and very frustrating. I did go on line and read a number of reviews. Others have had the same issue and also a skipping problem. Once or twice over my three days of use it did skip twice. I wonder why Yamaha has not resolved the transport issues with this unit which has been on the market for a number of years now. I finally returned this unit and will try another one with fingers crossed. I thought the sound was excellent and decided to take a chance with fingers crossed that the second S2100 does not have the transport problems of the first unit.
Pros: Absolutely great sounding two track CD/SACD player with many input and output options.
Cons: Transport randomly refuses to load any disc. May play a dozen or more discs with no issue and then would not load any disc at all, even the same disc it just had loaded.

Another great Yamaha product
Crutchfield customer from Midland, MI on 12/17/2020
I purchased this to go with my Yamaha A-S2100 integrated amplifier that I got from Crutchfield a year ago. Like all the Yamaha products that I have owned over the past 35 years, this SACD player is built exceptionally well. One thing I noticed about it is its heft. The player is built like a tank, and sounds great to boot. I haven't explored all the features yet, but out of the box and using XLR's (not included), it sounds fantastic.

Yamaha CD-S2100
Crutchfield customer from West Bloomfield, MI on 8/4/2019
The Yamaha SA/CD player exceeded my expectations. The sound quality is so much better than my 30 year old CD player. Crutchfield provided surpurb service. They kept me up to date on my order status, and even sent me a personal thank you for my order. Same great service I received in the 90s with my first order.

Yamaha CD-S2100 All I Hoped It Would Be
Crutchfield customer from Fresno, CA on 4/29/2019
This player delivers the high quality sound from traditional and super audio CD's that you would expect from a player at this price point. Match this up to a great amplifier and speakers, and you'll witness life like performances (I listen through Ohm Walsh 4XO's). The Yamaha CD-S2100 is also pleasing in how smoothly and silently the disc transport works. For those who appreciate a minimalist design in their audio equipment they will enjoy the subtle appearance of the face plate, and everyone can appreciate the selection and craftsmanship of construction materials. In my experience this player certainly deserves its five-star rating.

Yamaha CD-S2100 brings digital audio to life
David C from Jackson, WY on 11/21/2018
At first my player skipped, even with brand new discs. The manual explains how to adjust the Digital Phased Lock Loop bandwidth. I was able to set it higher with the remote; now it does not skip. CDs really come alive. The sound is amazing. The unit is connected to a Mac preamp with XLR cables. The unit has multiple inputs (and outputs) for DAC, though I have not used these. You will find yourself playing your old CDs!
Pros: Sleek design, cool remote
Cons: Expensive

Quality Sounding
Carlo from Lexington, KY on 11/14/2016
Excellent CD player for audiophile entry. Seriously buying a player that would cost a couple of thousand more I couldn't justify the expense. Very clear and concise. My wife who doesn't really pay much attention to music was blown away how the unit sounded when hearing music. Ensure the player is connected to a quality amp that matches performance to reap the benefit of this magical player. Using XLR cables is a must also.
