Amplifier & Audio Section

Tonal Balance & Dynamics: Yamaha has always pursued the faithful reproduction of all sounds; from all instruments and all vocals, at all pitches and across the entire spectrum. As opposed to merely producing powerful sound, the R-N2000A delivers a sense of dynamics that expresses the contrast between stillness and motion in the music - allowing you to feel the intensely deep emotions in the music and immerse yourself in that musical world. Enjoy the full harmony and musicality in the sound even sounds you've never heard before.

Floating & Balanced Power Amplifier: Equipped with Yamaha's original amplifier technology, the power amplifier circuitry including the power supply is completely independent from the ground, and the influence of minute voltage fluctuations and external ground noise is completely eliminated. A variety of benefits result from this circuit design; including perfect symmetry of pull-pull operation in the output stage, attainment of excellent S/N ratio, and an overwhelmingly expressive power that perfectly draws out the sound of any musical instrument. The R-N2000A's amplifier is rated at 90 watts x 2 channels into 8-ohms @ 20-20kHz with 0.07% THD.

Toroidal Transformer: Usually reserved for Yamaha's flagship Hi-Fi components, the R-N2000A benefits from the technical proficiency and absolute musicality of a toroidal transformer. Combined with an array of high-end Hi-Fi features and components, the toroidal transformer assists in ensuring the musical emotion is conveyed to the listener. Moreover, a 3mm brass base is sandwiched between the bottom of the transformer and the inner chassis to control vibrations in the transformer, delivering an overwhelmingly spacious sound filled with realism.

Symmetrical Construction: The R-N2000A has adopted perfectly symmetrical, "folding-book" construction, with the power supply in the center and the power amplifier blocks at both ends of the main unit. This gives the unit ideal weight balance and suppresses adverse effects between channels for extraordinary channel separation. The result is remarkably pure reproduction of every part of the sound.

Low Impedance Concept: Yamaha's Low Impedance Concept, aided by the thick wires for ground connection, thoroughly eliminate energy loss and degradation of the audio signal. In addition, a screw connection is adopted for the output from the power amplifier section in order to strengthen the ground, which is important for audio quality. Thanks to Yamaha's Low Impedance Concept design, an open and natural sound stage is realized, bringing the artist and listener closer together.

Mechanical Ground Concept: The R-N2000A employs Yamaha's Mechanical Ground Concept. The concept begins with the bolts of the feet welded directly to the main chassis, and continues with the large heat sink, power transformer and block capacitors also directly bolted to the chassis. This design prevents unwanted vibration, resulting in powerful, highly expressive low-frequency response and letting you feel the deep groove of the music. Completing the solid rigidity of the amplifier are its heavy-duty silver-plated brass feet that firmly reinforce the rich, foundational low-frequency response and fills it with musicality.

High-Performance DAC: In pursuit of clear, transparent soundfield reproduction while delivering rich and fully detailed level of musicality, Yamaha has adopted the state-to-the-art ES9026PRO DAC (digital-to-analog converter) from ESS Technologies. This high-quality DAC achieves highly accurate signal conversion through the balanced analog audio output and further refined current delivery for four-channel operation, effectively reproducing even the subtle ambiance of concert halls and delicate expressive nuances in the sound.

Yamaha Parametric Room Acoustic Optimizer (YPAO): Environmental factors play an important role in the sonic signature of a room, and with any type of audio. Yamaha's own YPAO automatic calibration technique, refined over decades of use in their home theater products, has been optimized for the R-N2000A to deliver the ideal listening environment, as if you were in a professional audio listening room - without requiring complicated manual setting adjustments. YPAO features precision EQ, which performs exceptionally high-precision equalization with accuracy of up to 192kHz/64-bit audio resolution. YPAO R.S.C. (Reflected Sound Control) works in tandem to actively control the important early reflection sounds, automatically adjusting and optimizing how the sound is heard in your room, depending on the materials of the walls and the speaker placement. Which means you can enjoy the profound sound and immersive feeling unique to Hi-Fi audio - right in your own living room.

Note: The included wired microphone plugs into the front-panel setup mic input (3.5mm) on the front of the stereo receiver.

Tone Controls + Loudness: The Yamaha R-N2000A offers Bass (20Hz) & Treble (20kHz) control from -10 to +10dB, as well as Balance (L-R) and Loudness (Flat to -30dB). The Loudness feature makes it easier to hear bass and treble even at low volume levels. It allows the listener to enjoy natural sound even at low volumes by compensating for the human auditory characteristic that makes it difficult to hear bass and treble at low volumes.

Pure Direct: Pure Direct causes the R-N2000A stereo receiver's music signals to travel the shortest possible circuit route by bypassing the bass & treble, loudness. and balance controls, as well as YPAO settings - in order to virtually eliminate any signal degradation for the purest sound quality.

Note: MusiCast, front-panel display, and setup menu are not available when Pure Direct mode is activated.

A & B Speaker Output Terminals: Yamaha's meticulous obsession with quality continues through to the speaker terminals, which are the last and crucial link in the audio chain. Featuring two sets of binding-post speaker terminals (A/B) that are cut directly from pure brass enable secure connection with no reduction in sound quality. Contoured to the shape of human fingers, they not only look beautiful, but can be turned easily and fastened tightly with minimal effort. They are also compatible with connections using banana plugs (single only).

Note: You can use the A/B speaker outputs to power two pair of separate speakers or you can bi-wire a single pair of speakers. If you use two sets (A and B) of speaker, the impedance of each speaker must be 8-ohm or higher. When only using one set of speakers (A or B), use speakers with an impedance of 4-ohm or higher.

Pre-Outs: The Yamaha R-N2000A stereo receiver is equipped with a stereo preamp output for connecting an external power amplifier and to using the R-N2000A as a preamplifier. It also features a mono-RCA subwoofer output for connecting a powered sub. Both preouts are full-range. You'll need a powered subwoofer with its own built-in low-pass crossover.

Headphone Jack: The R-N2000A is equipped with a front-panel 1/4" headphone jack for connecting a set of headphones (sold separately). Once a set of headphones is connected, the stereo receiver's speaker outputs and preamp outputs are muted automatically.

Greetings Owen. What you have to look at is the receivers minimum impedance. This model is a minimum of 4 ohms. Now, speakers. Speakers have resistance. That is also measured in ohms. Most home speakers are 8 ohms. Two pairs of 8 ohm speakers would be 4 ohms at the receiver. If your speakers are all 8 ohm, this receiver can run 2 pairs.

Q
Below the back speaker output section, a warning reads A or B: 6 ohm min. Is this expensive amp not 4 ohm stable?
theodore r  Nov 28, 2023
1 answer
A
The U.S. specification for the Yamaha R-N2000A receiver is 4-ohm stable, Ted. When using one set of speakers, 4-ohms is the minimum. For the models sold outside of the U.S. in Asia the minimum impedance is 6-ohms for a single pair of speakers, and the product photo is of that model. If you want to check all the deep specs for the U.S model, you can click on the owner's manual link listed under the "what's in the box" column. I hope this helps!

Q
What is the footprint of the unit (the distance, center to center, form the feet - front to back and side to side)?
neville  Nov 05, 2023
1 answer
A
These are not measurements that are listed in the documentation for the Yamaha R-N2000A, Neville. The footprint would be slightly less than the chassis footprint of 17 1/8" wide by 19 1/16" deep (including RCA/speaker connections) but we cannot determine the exact amount. If you must have these exact measurements prior to purchase for your specific setup, I would reach out to Yamaha directly for that information. I hope this helps!

Q
R-N-2000a Can you Run YPAO on A Speakers and B Speakers plus a separate YPAO for the Preamp out to a separate amp? If so, can you have all three YPAO calibrations be run simultaneously, i.e.both A&B speakers on and the pre-amp out feeding a separate amp for a separate room?
bkatlantic  Nov 08, 2024
1 answer
A
The YPAO calibration can be applied either to speakers directly connected to the speaker jacks of this product, or to speakers driven by an external amp connected to the preamp output jacks, Brian. Only one calibration can be applied at a time, and the owner's manual states that A+B YPAO mode should be used for bi-wiring a single pair of speakers.

Does the FM tuner receive HD2 radio station signals?
vito m.  Jul 27, 2024
1 answer
A
This receiver will only bring in regular FM stations, rather than HD Radio. You do have digital radio options through Airable however. You can listen to Internet radio stations using Airable by TuneIn. Search worldwide internet radio content by Genre, Language, Location, Quality, Popularity, or do a keyword search. This is utilized through its wi-fi streaming capabilities.

I'm confused! My UB9000 has an arc plug, do I still need my receiver to have one? My Samsung oled has an arc plug!
brando  Feb 21, 2023
1 answer
A
You can only connect one device to your Samsung OLED's ARC or eARC port, Brando. If you are planning on adding the amazing Yamaha R-N2000A to your setup you would connect your Panasonic UB9000 to your TV directly with an alternate HDMI port, using the ARC port on the Samsung TV for the Yamaha. While this is a stereo unit and can only pass 2-channel audio, having the ARC HDMI connection can really help with CEC control (the Yamaha turning on automatically with your TV when powered up), or when streaming music over HDMI from TV apps like Apple Music. I hope this helps!
