It's been at least 35 years since I upgraded my receiver and it sounds great! Surprisingly this one has more dials and buttons than my previous one which I think is much better than relying on screens and button combinations. The streaming service integration is also nice. I am really happy with my purchase. The only downside was that the setup of the services was not intuitive and the online manual is pretty vague.

It sounds very clean, seems like it is built very solidly. I like having the tone controls on the front panel and the adjustable 'loudness' setting. My only gripe, and it is very small, is I wish there was a way to switch it into standby from the unit. I guess most people don't walk up to equipment to turn it off anymore. But when I do I then can't turn it back on the next day from the remote.

Pros: Solid Build Clean Sound

Cons: Would be nice to have a detachable power cord. A button to put it in Standby would be nice on the unit.

Replaced an older Denon AVR1312. The Yamaha gives clean sound through my B&W DM110 speakers. Plenty of power but not necessary for enjoying music. Having the latest tech is a pleasure as I was using a bluetooth adapter from my laptop. I'm very happy with the Yamaha. Set up was easy and quick and Crutchfield delivered in 2 days.

Pros: Clean, full sound with latest tech.

Cons: None so far.

Happy to have my new R-N600A tuner/amplifier to replace the 1991 vintage Luxman setup that has slowly been fading away one component at a time for a few years. Combined with a CD-C603 CD changer we're back in the music business. So nice to have all the tech advances like bluetooth, network connectivity and the ability to use online music services. A versatile unit and Yamaha still builds them solid as a rock. Crutchfield delivered, free of charge and in record time.

First, a shoutout to Crutchfield for its customer-focused business model. Second, a shoutout to the always knowledgeable, helpful, and patient techs, like Etch, Dwayne, and Fae. Now, for the Yamaha R-N600A - it's awesome. I have CD player, and two speakers connected. I stream a lot, mostly from Apple. The sound I am getting from my Wharfedale speakers is so much better. The setup was easy, but it was a wee bit time consuming. Make sure you access the very good Yamaha online manual that takes you step by step through the process. I wish I did not have to depend so much on the remote but, then again, it makes things very easy. Would I buy it again-YES but only from Crutchfield!

Mark from Newark, DE on 3/2/2025

Verified employee review (What's this?)

I've had the receiver for a week, so this is a preliminary review. I purchased this receiver model from Paul in sales for 2 primary reasons: add modern input versatility, especially net radio and services; install wireless stereo speakers in a room inaccessible to speaker wires. I did some prior research on Crutchfield's website, then called sales. Paul helped me select equipment to accomplish my goals. The receiver and wireless speakers arrived a few days later. With a few hours of effort, I used the enclosed paper instructions and downloaded the MusicCast software, hooked up the existing turntable, CD player, and CD player/recorder, successfully programmed some internet radio stations (we do not get over air FM reception), and linked my Amazon Music account to play digital albums. In a few hours the next day, I successfully installed and linked a stereo pair of Yamaha WX-021 wireless speakers. So far this is all working well, the receiver sounds great with my old Paradigm speakers, and the wireless speakers sound great in our kitchen. My only reservation at this point is I think I will struggle to get my SO to want to operate this setup, she just doesn't care to mess with this stuff. The MusicCast software is not particularly intuitive, but you must (I believe) use it to power on the wireless speakers and send a signal to them. You cannot do this with the front panel controls on the receiver.

Pros: Fairly easy setup. Sounds great.

Cons: Must use MusicCast app to select input for and operate the paired remote Yamaha WX-021 speakers, they cannot be operated from the receiver front panel.

Sound System Upgrade

Kenneth from El Lago, TX on 12/8/2024

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee review (What's this?)

Upgraded from a Yamaha R-N303 when upgrading my entire sound system, including replacing 43 year old Infinity 1500's with a pair of Paradigm Monitor tower speakers. Easy set up as I was very familiar with Yamaha MusicCast that is the same between the R-N303 and the R-N600A. Crutchfield tech and support staff were very accommodating of my many questions and aided my selection process. I've used Crutchfield support for many decades and highly recommend them.

Pros: Easy set up due to familiarity with older generation Yamaha receiver.

Cons: Not really a con but I didn't factor in the receiver depth size difference between the R-N303 and R-N600A when making the purchase. So had to expand the power cord and connection opening in the back panel of my entertainment center to accommodate the increased depth size of the R-N600A. Once opening enlarged there was no issue in placing the new receiver to allow the front door of the entertainment center to close.

So far, this unit has exceded my expectations. However, you must know that this is the first stereo receiver that I have purchase in 35 years. I bought it so that I can still play my "old school" vinyl and CDs on it. Things have changed a lot in 35 years !!! The sound quality is amazing, but this old guy is trying to learn about WiFi connectivity. Crutchfield is supposed to be great at tech support, so I will have give them a call with a few questions.

Not A+, but solid value for the price

Gregory Edwa from Tomball , TX on 12/1/2024

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee review (What's this?)

My two main reasons for buying this unit were (a) ethernet input so that I could play Hi-Res streams from my subscription service with optimum fidelity, and (b) the fact that it had a phono input that did not require a pre amp (I have a tube amp as well that I use for vinyl only, and that rig does require a preamp). I was also encouraged to stick with Yamaha because I recently purchased a guitar amp of theirs that I was extremely pleased with, and also for the fact that this unit was on sale, AND with a scratch and dent unit that allowed me to save even more money. There are a wealth of inputs here; there is hardly a device out there that I don't think you couldn't connect. CD, tape, coaxial, optical, USB, Bluetooth, and every music streaming service out there, and all controllable from the remote. The Music Cast app is a little tricky to set up, and I haven't figured that all out yet, and I don't think I need to for my particular audio needs. As far as the sound quality, I would give the R-N600A a "pristine" rating for Hi-Res streaming which is the closest I have heard digital fidelity come to analog thus far; if vinyl is 100, this is about 95; this is where this unit shines brightest. However, CD is just average, Phono input is "very good ++," but you really have to crank it to get the bass going without adding in a powered subwoofer, which is doable on this rig. FM tuner is about what you'd expect, but I hardly listen to radio. It all add

Pros: Reasonable price, lots of inputs, great sound; most features simple to learn how to use, although I wish Yamaha would use bigger fonts on the labels on the front buttons; very hard to see if you're old like me.

Cons: Music Cast app is complicated, if your computer goes to sleep, you have to quit and restart sometimes to get your music service reconnected.

I wanted to upgrade my system. I had a $160 Sony receiver. So I did some research and chose the Yamaha RN-600. At first I wasn't satisfied. But I bought a set of Klipsch tower speakers. It brought this amplifier to life ! The sound separation from the right and left channel is phenomenal ! Very distinctive! I have a turntable hooked up and it's like listening to your favorite song for the first time ! The sound is incredible! Tom Sawyer from Rush is just awesome! Sounds like the band is sitting in your living room playing the song live ! I played songs from other artist and I am impressed with being able to hear all the instruments in the songs ! I am very happy with this purchase ! The price tag is $900. But I got it on sale for $700. It is well worth it !

Finding a quality stereo receiver for non-audiophiles wasn't easy. This does everything I required with a dedicated phono in, Bluetooth, dedicated subwoofer out, basic tone knobs. Everything else I saw has 47.12 mega-atmos-hyper-deluxe rubbish, or just smacked of cheepnis (yeah, the Zappa kind). I'm driving a pair of Klipsch RP-6000F IIs and their 121SW, and it sounds great to my ears.

Pros: Not crazy expensive Classic, simple stereo tone controls Everything you NEED and not much more

I am running two rooms inside on the A channel using a splitter so either or both can be on at once. Family room has a set of ELAC Debut 2.0 OW4.2's which provide great stereo sound. I boosted that room with the Audio Engine S6 powered subwoofer to round out the base. I feel like I'm at a concert. The B channel is for outside again with a splitter. Two Polk Audio Atrium 4's for the deck and another two for the backyard. These little gems provide the perfect stereo sound for my back yard gatherings. Overall I am very pleased with my Crutchfield experience. I hooked up my old 5 disc CD player and it performs like a charm. I am most excited about my new Sony turntable. My vinyl collection is finally able to be heard in all its glory. The tuner provides me with excellent FM output. But I now need to purchase the dual cassette deck so I can play every bit of music I have collected. Only thing left to do is get out of the past and use the bluetooth and other digital capabilities. My son has already played from his phone and again everything sounds great. I just prefer all the pops and snaps from my old vinyl through a hardwired system. Thanks Crutchfield.

One major flaw

Would be a great receiver except one major issue. The system does not store settings for the app or streaming. If you power it off it looses all knowledge and you have to set it up again next time to connect via Airplay etc. I don't want to leave it powered on all the time. Unless this is fixed I would t recommend.

Pros: Great sound

Cons: Broken streaming system

A very nice easy to operate receiver. It has more functions than I'm likely to ever use but the options to use them are there if I want. It delivers a nice clean, crisp sound. I really like the pure direct feature.

Amazing Stereo Receiver

Paul from AKRON, OH on 4/26/2024

I absolutely love this stereo receiver. It has a rich full spectrum sound quality, especially with my Rotel CD11 Tribute CD Player, a match made in Heaven. The display is great, especially showing the volume level. I would rather have 0 to 100 max but this unit is -90db to 0 max. I am getting used to it. The AM and FM radio has a very strong signal reception, pulling in stations I normally don't get. It is compatible with all the major streaming services. It also works very well with my WiiM Pro Player and my Sony Phono Player.

Pros: Excellent Sound quality. Beautiful display especially for Volume Level. Love remote. Love AM and FM radio signal strength. Compatible with my WIIM Pro Player and my Rotel CD11 Tribute CD Player and my Sony Phono Player.

Cons: Not a fan of Volume level in DB's

What can I say? It's wonderful! I was torn between the Yamaha R-N600a and the Cambridge Axr100. I wrote Crutchfield and got a quick response from Lee about why he felt the Yamaha was better using my old WF-35 Klipsch speakers. I was using a Harman Kardon 3490 and the Yamaha is noticeably better. In all ranges it shines. Would I do it again? Bet your a** I would. Do your research, then call Crutchfield, these folks know what they're doing!

Pros: Sound Quality. Feature rich

Cons: None

Solid and clear sound. Purchased with Klipsh Reference Premiere speakers. Setup was easy. I especially like the built in WIFI and Bluetooth. Dedicated phono input for my Audio Technica turntable. Unit went on sale 2 day after mine was delivered. Thirty seconds after I called Crutchfield, I was issued a credit, no questions ask!

Pros: Clear crisp sound Easy setup Lots of input options WiFi Bluetooth and USB

Cons: Setup button (only on remote as far as I can tell)

Having been out of the audio scene for many years I was unsure of the available options to replace my aged shop stereo. Crutchfield and Yamaha came thru with good advice and a good product. The purchasing experience was smooth and professional and the Yamaha has exceeded my expectations. Smooth controls and clean performance across the board along with the ability to retain my vinyl and disc inputs. Win-win! Only one problem- as I am replacing the shop speakers also, I set up the Yamaha in the house with my old L100's. It sounds so good I don't want to take it out-now I need to buy one for the shop again!

I bought this receiver as the centerpiece of a two-channel stereo system. Everything is working well so far (about 1 week in). Sound is excellent. Streaming works well with the Music Cast. I went with this model because I wanted the normal components + streaming, and I liked the bass, treble, and loudness knobs on the front of the unit. I thought it would be louder with the Klipsch RP-5000F speakers, but it is more than enough for the room and my purposes.

I purchased this amp to replace an older onkyo surround sound receiver that died. I am really impressed with the sound of the RN600A. The build quality is excellent. I am running a Jolida CD unit and a turntable. And they both sound great. Very clean sound with plenty of power for my old Thiel speakers. Love the fact that it's two channels plus sub. Looking forward to getting Spotify going and fiddling with blue tooth. If you buy this amp you will be happy!

Quite the Upgrade!

I had an older Onkyo Home Theater receiver that I was using with a pre-amp to power my turntable. This Yamaha blows it out of the water sound-wise - so much quieter. No more soft white noise when listening to records. Everything is much more clean and crisp. With a dedicated phono input, I don't need my pre-amp anymore and the added flexibility of playing music from my phone is also a nice feature.

Pros: - Simple to set up. - Beautiful design - Superb sound quality - Get the best of both analog (turntable) and digital (bluetooth).

Excellent power to drive my old McIntosh ML1C speakers. Easy operation with front panel knobs and sound adjustments--just like the old days before digital took over! Also has all the streaming and wireless capabilities you'd expect in high-end equipment.

Pros: Price, power, ease of installation, ease of operation.

This Receiver /Amp replaced a classis Technics receiver with all the bells & whistles. This one has everything the old one had except for 110 vac outlets on the back and a mains loop for an outboard graphics Eq. But thats the way all the modern receivers are now, BUT added the new tech inputs for wifi, optical, etc . Overall i like the display, and easy to use front knobs. The remote is nice as well, but the outboard things like CD and phono arent up to speed with this, so still have to get up and go turn them on and fiddle. The remote is good for switching radio stations.LOL. It is driving teh new Klipsch 600M Ver.2 ,

Wonderful stereo receiver. Crisp highs without causing ears to bleed. I feel the depth of bass in my chest cavitys. Sleek design with separate bass/treble/midrange controls. Love internet radio and playing SiriusXM via MusicCast and my Android Phone is over the top. This streaming integrated amp is hitting all the marks! Enjoying the multi-cast and streaming, the ability for pure pass-through, the phono pre-amp, and the clarity with 100W/channel. Tried it with both my KEF Q350s and Klipsch R610s, and it has been perfect. Tons of inputs, classic Yamaha look, and the quality you would expect.
