Good sound
Luis from Spring Hill, FL on 6/6/2025
It's not as powerful as the built-in subwoofer is not strong enough to give ground shaking bass. The sound is good for not having a real subwoofer. The voices are clear and strong, which is the main reason I bout it. It gives me what I need.
Pros: It takes little space
Cons: Weak bass

After two days, we're enjoying the soundbar for its performance and functionality. It replaced a separates 3.1 system by eliminating a surround sound processor, multi-channel power amplifier and three loudspeakers. This low profile allows placement in front of the 65" TV for improved dialog intelligibility. The mobile device control app is appreciated for easy adjustment between sound options as well as from the next room. Connection and setup was mostly a matter of disconnecting other components and turning it on. I'm an industry professional with enough experience to look at the manual before making the purchase and even the most discerning critic in our home is pleased. I'm ready to pull out the extra devices for use in another room, storage or sale.
Pros: Easy setup, good sound and control.
Cons: Blocks TV remote sensor.

Add a sub and it's way better than expected
Pat from Phillipsburg, NJ on 3/7/2025
At first it was a little muddy then after a week it opened up. Always been a Yamaha fan and for under $200 you can't go wrong. I added a 10"sub and then it was what I'd hoped it would be. By itself it's was ok but bass seemed a little veiled or just off. I have a surround system in basement so I have that to compare it too as a reference. Of course my other system is NAD amp with Martin Logan's up front and KEFs in the rear so I wouldn't expect it to be close but for the price it's fantastic with an added sub and suites my needs for a small family room.
Pros: Price, ease of set up with arc and hdmi cable. Basically plug n play.
Cons: Bass is lacking and veiled on its own

Good overall inexpensive soundbar
Dennis from Massena, NY on 2/4/2025
This soundbar works good in my livingroom. Easy directions to hook up. I used the supplied optical cable instead of hdmi arc and connected it to my powered subwoofer. It took a while to adjust the bass response and I am still trying different setups. The clear voice feature makes voices easier to hear but the 3d surround sometimes gives an echo effect. Overall I am pleased with this soundbar. A good option for the price. The Bluetooth setup was seamless and music off my phone sounds great.

Great sound, Great value!
David from ANTIOCH, CA on 1/29/2025
Got so tired of trying to calibrate a 5.1 system in my main family room with vaulted ceilings. Never could get the sound or dialog to work together without cranking up the system until the house shook. Purchased this speaker and was happy with the sound and value even though it sat on a shelf, below the TV in a built in wall cabinet. Upgraded the TV recently to a larger model and had to mount the speaker under the TV with the top of the speaker pointed toward the listening room. WOW, what a game changer. The Yamaha speaker now projects all over the room. You won't find a better speaker for the price.

Perfect for the area
Donald from Hermitage, TN on 1/26/2025
Usually I go with a full compliment of speakers with a home theater receiver. However, since this was going in my dining room/kitchen area I didn't need all that extra stuff! This soundbar fit the bill with enhanced bass and surround. Fits perfectly with my Samsung 43" TV. My only complaint is that there is a noticeable audio lag when skipping ahead on my recorded programs. It takes it a second or two for the audio to start up again. I'm wondering if that is due to my HDMI connection and if adding an optical connection will fix it.
Pros: Low profile fits just below the TV on the shelf. Easy to connect up Great sound
Cons: Two second audio lag when skipping ahead on recorded programs. May not be a soundbar issue.

Lack of set up instructions.
Steven from Washington, DC on 10/21/2024
The product did not have adequate instructions for the various alternative sound approaches. It required too much experimentation, and I am still not sure if we have achieved all that we wanted, namely, a simple, clear voice sound. Some of the settings resulted in a sort of echo effect which was certainly not something that we wanted. I emphasize. This is probably the result of my experience with Soundbars and the lack of clear cut instructions rather than the potential quality of the product itself.

Had high hopes for this item based on reviews. Perhaps I just received a 'lemon', but this unit began to fail to operate correctly within a few months. I spent time with the Crutchfield tech department attempting to problem solve, to no avail. Became frustrated after too much time spent and gave up. Apparently a return/replace was not an option. This has been sitting in a closet and will now donate it to a thrift shop with the hope that a tech person can figure out how to make use of it. Am bummed that I spent this much for a short-lived negative outcome.

Yamaha SR-B20A V good buy
William from Westminster, CA on 9/15/2023
Paired this Yamaha SR-B20A with an older 60" Samsung LED TV. The TV and sound bar are setup on the backyard patio near my hot tub. The TV does not have an ARC HDMI so I used a regular HDMI cable along with the provided digital coaxial cable. The sound bar sounds great in surround mode when watching sports, TV shows and movies. Music sounded best in stereo mode or surround mode and performed well considering all sound is coming from one sound bar with no subwoofer. This sound bar meets my needs and would be perfect paired with TV in smaller rooms. If you are looking for a simple, low cost audio addition to your TV, this will work well. If you are looking to blow the doors off the house, or enjoy loud music, stick with a component system. Overall, this met my needs and was a great value. As a bonus, the remote is well thought out and has great range.
Pros: Value, remote, big and full sound for a sound bar.
Cons: Bass can muffle at higher volumes or during punchy tracks.

Two big thumbs up!
G. from Monmouth, NJ on 6/3/2023
I urge anyone looking for a budget home theater solution in a small to moderate size room that includes 3-D surround in a much more streamlined, space saving way, is to buy this sound bar for your SmartTV that has HDMI/ARC connectivity, and can automatically output PCM and bitstream audio formats. Worth the price of admission, and even better on sale! The Polk PSW-10 subwoofer pairs well this soundbar through the coaxial external sub connection. Turn filter and volume knobs clockwise about 40% and use the soundbar for control. The Standard Mode sounds good with the Polk in Virtual 3D surround format, and when you have a Dolby Digital bitstream, the Movie mode in 3D surround has excellent LFE (low freq. effects) into the sub, and is also when the Clear Voice option and your sub really shows you what they can do for your HT experience. . Basic stereo and Bluetooth modes are not as exciting, but are available if desired.

Mainly good but a few flaws
Mike from Singapore on 4/16/2023
First of all it lacks the support of Dolby Digital plus when u use direct bitstream or bypass ( meaning u let the soundbar do the processing). If yr tv doesnt have DD plus , all u will get is AC3 which is an older standard . DTS however works under bitream/bypass. secondly most netflix / prime video shows are in DD plus so u will be missing out on the more clearer sound of DD plus.Thirdly , When used on table top mode the tweeters are directly firing at u and this can cause a harsh sound with content that are not properly mastered from original source ( like e.g. youtube). Thirdly there is no way to adjust the treble to reduce this harshness. The 4th problem i noticed was that the feature called bass extension destroys the stereo imaging and creates sound distortion with poorly mastered content. When in table top mode do not engage this feature as it will give a distorted sound due to interacting with the table surface with poorly mastered content . the only time this works well is with properly mastered content or original quality sources. But for the most part its generally good or the best for most content at its price point compared to rivals
Pros: no need for a subwoofer decently spacious sound value for money
Cons: No Dolby Digital plus No treble controls.

This is my first sound-bar purchase and so far it has met all of my expectations. The Clear Voice feature is a noticeable improvement on dialog clarity. Occasionally it needs to be turned off then on again, but generally this is a good, budget item.
Pros: Better than my built-in TV sound
Cons: Needs restarting from time to time.

Jack from Trego, WI on 3/15/2023
In my opinion a great sound bar for 43" Samsung HD TV. Didn't need a wild subwoofer, but there is a good woof for a small setup, a separate subwoofer could be added if necessary. The clear voice feature works good, conversations seem to be getting harder and harder to pick out of video sound, clear voice reduces the need for subtitles. We used HDMI ARC to connect with TV and operates with TV, nice. The optical cable that comes with the Sound bar works, but it's worth it to spend a few bucks and get an HDMI cable and use the ARC TV port. Works good as Bluetooth speakers for streamed music. Crutchfield very good getting the product to us and keeping us up to date on shipping progress.
Pros: Good price! Download the soundbar app. Works great for knowing which soundbar settings are in use.
Cons: Using the included remote, it's a little difficult knowing what settings are without going and looking at the lights on the sound bar.

It's probably not your ears, it's the TV
David from Charlottesvle, VA on 2/25/2023
After asking each other "What did they say?" about a dozen times, the wife and I decided that the crappy, dime-sized speakers and pathetic sound from our new flat-screen kitchen TV had to go. Enter the Yamaha SR-B20A. This compact sound bar made a HUGE improvement in sound quality and intelligibility. Now we can hear all of the dialog clearly without the fuzz and distortion of the TV's built-in speakers. Plus, the Bluetooth sounds pretty good for streaming music from my smartphone while I cook. Recommended highly for a small to medium-sized room where you don't need massive volume or bass, just clearer, cleaner sound. For larger rooms, more volume, and deeper bass, look for a larger speaker with a powered subwoofer.
Pros: Big clear sound from a slimline design Effective "Clear Voice" feature gently boosts dialog without distorting Decent audio quality with music Optical cable included
Cons: Not ideal for a big rooms Somewhat limited bass response (get a powered sub for that) HDMI cable not included

For the price, options, & after comparison to other speaker systems costing much more, it's among the best that I've heard & well worth it. I'd literally have to spend twice the money to get a truly better sound bar or get a multi-speaker system with a sub woofer.

I got this sound bar to see if I could hear dialogue better in my study. As usual, Yamaha did not disappoint. I didn't want to build a sound system for my study, as this set up is only for when I'm listening to the news before work, but I've found it harder and harder to hear dialogue clearly through my television speakers over the years. This was a simple and easy solution, and its smaller profile meant I didn't have to move too much to install.

Lean and clean
Albert from Alhambra, CA on 1/12/2023
Long and lean with a low profile, good clarity, ample and clean sound, and sufficient bass. However, I can't detect a noticeable difference with the "Clear Voice" function. Too, I haven't felt a real need to add the subwoofer yet. My 2015 Sony Bravia didn't register the speaker with via HDMI Arc connection, so I opted for optical, and it worked straight away, no issues. The Bluetooth function works well with my iPhone, too.
Pros: Sound, profile, functionality

Not Louder than my TV.
Rach from Johnson City, TN on 1/7/2023
The sound is the same wonderful Yamaha sound I've always had in the past. I was, however, very disappointed that the 'power' on it, loudness/volume of sound is no better than my Samsung tv. I did pay more a Samsung model tv that had more 'wattage' to the sound, because I am a little hard of hearing. But when I turn on music channels, I turn the volume all the way up, or nearly all the way up, and it is No Louder than my Samsung TV speaker.
Pros: Amazing Quality Sound,
Cons: Not Loud enough.

Good quality product. "Clear voice" doesn't seem to make a huge difference when you use it but for the most part the sound is good. Highly recommend a separate sub for the system if you expect deep punch from the bass. Doesn't come with an HDMI cable and they send a very short optical cable with it. No screws come to mount on the wall either. All in all Not bad for the money and sound is decent.

Blew me away
Kate from Austin, TX on 10/15/2022
This sound bar blew me away! It arrived on time and in perfect condition from Crutchfield. It does not come with a HDMI cable so if you don't already have one, purchase one when you order the sound bar. Easy to hook up, less than five minutes. The sound this sound bar puts out is amazing. I was concerned the built-in subwoofer would not be enough, but it absolutely is, and you can adjust it with the remote. I purchased this mainly for the Clear Voice feature for my new 65" OLED tv. I got way more than I expected. I would highly recommend this product, great value also.
Pros: Easy to install, powerful built-in subwoofer, clear voice feature and great value
Cons: HDMI cable not included.

Excellent Upgrade
James from Pass Christian, MS on 9/8/2022
This is exactly what I was looking for. Since finally cutting the cord completely just recently, we've been watching a lot more movies and concerts and things that are sound intensive. Decided the stock Samsung TV speakers just weren't cutting it so went to the Crutchfield site and used their extensive library of articles about sound bars. Wanting to stay in the $200 range, I compared many that were competitive but this one came out on top for what I was looking for. The sound is SO much better. I like it best in surround sound mode for most things but there are several tweaking options to adjust for your taste and the room acoustics. I have a large Greatroom with high ceilings and this thing fills the room perfectly. Now considering buying more of these for the rest of the TVs in the house.
Pros: Easy setup Huge sound improvement over TV speakers Good remote Several modes to chose from Integrates with TV remote Ability to add a Bluetooth subwoofer if desired

Great when it works...which isn't consistently
Anne from Washington, DC on 7/31/2022
When it works its great. Rich sound with lots of dynamic range. Unfortunately, it doesn't work consistently. We have this mounted under our tv using Sanus soundbar mount. Connecting a cable to the single HDMI port interferes with the mount forcing a good three inches of separation between the bottom of the TV and the top of the soundbar. And the LG TV seems to "forget" the soundbar is there between uses. It's great one day, then two days later it's "Sound bar? What sound bar?" Giving this two stars because it might work better with another TV, who knows.
Pros: Low price Great sound
Cons: Doesn't consistently show up as a "device" HDMI port poorly located

Impressed with it!
Sean from SLIDELL, LA on 7/29/2022
What's not to like, nice clean look, easy to use, sounds great for being "just a soundbar", has bluetooth capability, and able to add a sub to it. Much cleaner and clearer sound vs the tv, great for my living room (granted it's not a BIG living room), I did add a sub only because I had one sitting unused in storage and WOW it really made it come alive! If I didn't have a sub sitting around it is still great for most listening, but add that sub for a really nice bonus.
Pros: Blue-tooth, add-on sub capability, different sound effects.
Cons: the optical cable was a pain, luckily I found a HDMI cable to use.

It's a huge improvement over the speakers in my Samsung. Set-up was very easy and sounds great. It does come with a optical audio cable, but I used the HDMI ARC output and paired it with my sets remote. Bass is incredible even without using the Bass Extension function on the SR-B20A remote. Subwoofer isn't necessary! Clear Voice elevates dialogue so that every bit of speech is distinct. Superior build-quality and low enough profile. It does come with a template for wall-mounting. At this price, you can't go wrong.

Decent sound for bedroom hookup. The selling point for me was the subwoofer output to allow for an external sub - which I already had. Combined with a sub, you get a decent, not great, sound.

great for hearing dialogue
Lauren from Aptos, CA on 4/13/2022
The reason I purchased this is because I have a certain kind of hearing loss where it's difficult to hear dialogue, especially when there's music in the background. This sound bar gives you the option of having clearer dialogue or surround sound for listening to music only. I like it because I can decrease the volume with the clearer dialogue option and the tv won't disturb others in the house. There is also a sub-woofer and bass adjustment. Finally, there are ports to add speakers if you want. Definitely worth the money.

Nice sound, easy to use.
Rick from Cleveland, OH on 3/31/2022
I really like this sound bar. The Clear Voice button really works, and it really has a pretty big sound for its size. It was really easy to hook up to my HDMI ARC output and pairing with my remote was easy, too. You can connect a subwoofer if you want, but I haven't felt the need. The speakers in this unit won't give you earth shaking bass, but it's not trying to. If you're looking for a soundbar without a sub you're probably not expecting it to sound like a theater, you just want better sound, and if you're like me you're getting sick of turning the volume all the way up and explosions and music blow your eardrums out while you still can't hear half of the dialog. The Clear Voice button really helps fix this stupid way of mixing sound on movies and this makes it so much better!
Pros: Clear Voice really works Really easy to connect Sounds very good Unobtrusive
Cons: Doesn't have as much bass as more expensive soundbars

Adds Clarity and Heft to Sound Quality
Ralph from San Francisco, CA on 3/4/2022
The improvement in sound quality from the television is unbelievable, especially for this price. If you use the optical connection from the tv, the sound will definitely be improved BUT if you can use an HDMI ARC connection the improvement will be spectacular! I was always missing some of the dialog in movies or other programs when the background music or special effects drowned out the speech. But Yamaha is famous for its Clear Voice function. By pressing this button on the remote, every bit of speech is clearly distinct. I previously had another brand, Zvox, which was a pioneer in elevating tv speech quality, but it did not sound nearly as good in my living room as the Yamaha SR-B20A.
Pros: Astonishing quality for a very reasonable price. Excellent remote control.
Cons: If you want lots of complex bells and whistles, get a more expensive machine that might be more difficult to operate.

No question the sound from this soundbar is much better than that from my LG tv. Really a surprising improvment. The augmented dialogue feature works just as advertised. Well enough that I have turned off closed caption on everything us seniors watch now. Just a few years ago the consensus was that if you didn't spend over $500 for a soundbar you were wasting your money. Not true now for sure. This unit deserves 5 stars for it's performance in this price range. Also of note was setup instructions were clear and easy. Satisfied Customer
Kevin from Atlanta, GA on 2/6/2022
Years ago I got off the high end audio train in favor of decent sound from small footprints in my shrinking housing choices. So, my appreciation for my Yamaha sound bar is mixed up with my appreciation for no longer having to mow the lawn and perform other home owner chores. Also, at age 73, my hearing ain't what it used to be. Measured against this lowered bar, the Yamaha is doing a great job. I may add a real subwoofer down the line. For now, the bass from the built in subwoofer is good enough to rattle the crystal. Thanks to HDMI/ARC, we really like that we are back to using just the TV remote to run both picture and sound. Why not 5 stars? We can't really vouch for the "clear voice" which was a big draw. Also, I find that if I over-boost the base for a heightened home theater experience, I muddy the high and mid ranges. But, there is no problem at normal bass levels.
Pros: One remote to control them all. Great for TV and my iTunes collection.
Cons: Will likely need a subwoofer for movies or more challenging music. Clear voice is not dramatically different from normal.

Now using 2 remotes!!!!!
Nicholas from Washington, IL on 1/26/2022
Got some good help from Stone at Crutchfield when picking out this Yamaha SR-B20A sound bar. The problems started with hook up to our LG OLED55C1. I had to make 2 calls to both LG & Crutchfield for help. The Yamaha directions say to hook up to both an HDMI cable (not included, I happened to have one spare) and the fibre optical cable. I am using the ARC outlet on the TV to go to my receiver, so plugged the HDMI into HDMI 2. No sound. I found out there is no speaker setting on the OLED for optical and HDMI, it's one or the other. Went with just the optical. Hurrah! we have sound. The TV is now set to use just the sound bar. Big disappointment was trying to get the LG magic wand to control the sound bar. Another call to Crutchfield only to find out that won't work. The sound bar sound is great, better sound for dialog, the remote with it is just so so. Biggest disappointment is having 2 remotes instead of one.

Crutchfield customer from Pflugerville, TX on 12/22/2021
previously had 5.1 channel amp and surround. bought bar for aesthetic reasons and it does look very nice. I do not have separate sub connected (my old one is 2wire not rca). For me I miss the eery sounds coming from behind me that make you look over you shoulder. I do have a large living area that is open to the kitchen wit only a bar separating the two. The clear voice setting does make dialogue clear from the furthest chair in the kitchen. My only remaining test is to watch Saving Private Ryan...MTF
Pros: clear voice, design,no added siri or google, simple bluetooth
Cons: no eery sounds from behind, no wall shaking

It is a great deal. I bought it to enhance the dialogue of mostly British TV shows and it does that well. Also, I don't need to have the volume up as much due to the clarity. This makes my neighbors happy.

i bought this to use as an in-place bluetooth speaker that would fit a vertically short but wide shelf in my eat in kitchen. i did test it with a tv i use to work out to, and it sounded great there as well, but for my original purpose it's perfect. stereo separation is awesome, clarity is good (best with voice enhancer on as i listen to primarily guitar/vocal based music) and if/when the bar attached to one of my tvs goes i have a good-sounding replacement already here. the downsides to using it for this purpose (not portable, dimensionally odd for a room speaker, no usb charging ports) are not issues for me personally, and the app eliminates the need to even keep the physical remote near it as it stays connected even with the power off.

Crutchfield customer from Grand Junction, CO on 12/14/2021
Not the most spectacular sound, but very good for the size and price (hence five stars). It really is easier to understand dialogue, which is the main reason I bought it. Impressive bass, all things considered. HDMI-CEC is easy and makes using it no different than using the TV's onboard speakers. I'd definitely buy it again.
Pros: size, price, clear dialogue
Cons: Sound quality is good, but could be better.

Good product and with a sub out it allows you to use an existing sub or one of your choice.
Pros: Better than the TV audio. Subwoofer output. Quality of previous Yamaha products has been good and this seems to follow.
Cons: At low volumes Clear Voice seems to try too hard. Parts of the dialog seems to get boosted while others do not. Again only at low volume, one or two clicks of added volume and everything smoothes out.

It's pretty good. I like that the subwoofer is inside so it's only one piece for the sound bar. The Bluetooth is helpful so I don't have cords everywhere. It's better than my TV sound but I still have to turn it up to about 80% or higher to understand the dialogue during movies. Even with the "clear voices" setting turned on. I'd say it's worth the money though. If you have more money to spend I'm sure it is worth investing more. But if you don't I think this is a solid buy

I may not have everything figured it all out yet. It was easy enough to hook up. It came with just an optic cable not an HDMI cable so I don't know if the HDMI would allow visual of the adjustments to the speakers or not. I have been hearing impaired for a while, so I was looking for something with more treble or voice focused, and this helps quite a bit. The problem is that it still has a lot of bass that I can't seem to adjust out. That is where if the screen showed me the levels I'd know where I'm at and if there were any tweaking to do that would help. I have ordered a HDMI cable, so I hope this will help. The instructions and lights don't seem to help me figure it out. Maybe it is beyond what my ears need. I know it has a clearer sound than the TV speakers give me.

Great Sound Bar for the price

This sound bar put out quality sound and packs quite a punch at a minimal price. I did connect my powered sub-woofer to give it a little more "thump." However, I reduced the volume on the sound bar's sub-woofer to increase the overall clarity.
Pros: Fills up my whole room and is very clear.
Cons: The built-in sub-woofer creates too much vibration when set to the maximum volume.

It's a really good soundbar for the price point. I have a Sony 43X800H and the sound wasn't good for the room it's in (which I already knew before buying it). It's not in its permanent place so I didn't wanna buy anything sound wise. but it got to be annoying. This one is pretty basic, doesn't have a lot of bells and whistles (which I wasn't looking for), and just flat out sounds good, especially when I added my Polk sub to it. If you're looking for a good 2.1 bar to make your TV sound better, then this is a good choice

Not What I Was Hoping For.
Crutchfield customer from Cadillac, MI on 6/17/2021
I purchased this sound bar hoping it would help my hearing impairment, especially with the dialog issue. When I enable the "Clear Voice dialog enhancement option, There is little if any improvement. I have this connected to my TV using both the optical and HDMI ARC cables. Also, when I connected it to my LG 49UJ6300 Flat screen TV, for some reason I lost the volume up and down scale indication on the TV. The volume does change with the remote although the visual indicator is missing. When I contacted LG support, they suggested I reset the TV back to factory settings which I refused to do. I was very pleased with the sales representative, Simon, who help me and answered all my questions prior to purchase.
Pros: Compact and stylish.
Cons: Owners manual lacking detail and doesn't reflect the actual device.

Excellent simple, clean soundbar!
Alfred from Port Chester, NY on 6/12/2021
I purchased this soundbar for my 1 bedroom apt. I previously had a 2016 Yamaha ATS-1060. It was working fine, but I wanted to upgrade, specifically for the DTS-X, Bluetooth 5 and cleaner design. First thing I noticed was how much better built this was then my 1060. Tighter and thicker cloth. The speakers were also better enclosed. On my 1060, you could pock a hole with your finger if you wanted to. Not with this bar. It is slightly larger at about .75" longer and every so slightly wider. Thickness appears the same. I should note that I had to use the included Toslink cable since my 2015 Samsung TV does not have HDMI-ARC. I did use my HDMI cable to place in the TVs regular HDMI, so I could control on/off with the TV remote. I also placed the soundbar lying flat in front of TV. I felt this speaker this speaker would sound better positioned on the wall. In stereo mode, there wasn't much difference and its just ok for that, but you need to play with the settings to get the sweet spot for YOUR ear. The Bluetooth 5 on the SRB20A worked perfectly. Much better than my 2.1 that my 1060 had. Now, with Movies, it sounds very good for a single bar. I was streaming, through FIOS, Wonder Woman 84 on HBO Max. Volume at 54, 3D surround on, extended bass on, bass set at 4, clear voice on. The DTS-X is a definitely an upgrade over my previous DTS virtual surround processor. The Bass sounded a bit tighter also. I would give it a 4.5. Thanks Cruthfie
Pros: DTS X Movies Clear voice Bass from only the bar
Cons: Stereo mode only average at best

Obviously there are more expensive sound bars out there. Listening to some friends' and comparing to my old, much bigger, pricier sound base, this unit is a bargain and sounds better than my old sound base. The different settings make a noticeable difference in dialog and music.Mine is connected to a small subwoofer (one of my must-haves) and the system sounds terrific. Interestingly, when I adjust the subwoofer settings on the sound bar, it seems to somehow adjust the external sub as well. Not sure if this is exactly the case, but I like it! Bluetooth works seamlessly for streaming. Also had some connectivity issues with a new TV and Crutchfield advisors are tops! Highly recommend this unit for the budget conscious.

Met my expectations as a huge improvement on my Sony TV's sound. It seems like one of the best sound bar values. I paid a lot more for the Zvox I'm replacing, and this sounds much better. I suggest paying extra attention to whether or not the connections suit your needs. This model is a little odd about what inputs/outputs it supports. It was perfect for my needs, but may not be for yours, e.g. if you're into having Alexa built-in. I just cared about the HDMI arc support, which works flawlessly. The bass is surprisingly adequate, even without an external subwoofer. The highs and mids are also clear. It can fill our medium size living room with plenty of quality sound. The remote lays out the features in a very clear and usable way. But I only use its remote occasionally to tweak settings for specific needs when they arise. In general everything happens through the TV remote.
Pros: Very good sound for the price. Works perfectly with HDMI arc. Good bass in a small size
Cons: Odd connection assortment. No built-in Alexa.

While not meant to be a high powered audio source, this soundbar delivers quality, an attractive look, and meets my all-around listening needs on several levels. I am happy with my purchase.

Simple setup and decent sound
Philip from Cary, NC on 3/29/2021
Bought this to replace a bulky low powered 15 year-old stereo receiver and speaker pair (Bose bookshelf) for our big 7 year-old LED TV. Goal was a simpler setup that wouldn't disappoint. HDMI ARC between the TV and soundbar basically took care of the "simpler setup" part, reducing the number of cables and remotes to just one. Although the room it's in in fairly large, the soundbar still does a decent job of proving clear audio without distortion. After trying out all of the options, I found that the Stereo preset with Clear Voice enabled to be our most used configuration.

Over the past 40 years I have owned and still own numerous Yamaha audio products. Never had an issue with any of them. About 10 years ago purchased a Yamaha YAS 101 soundbar. Still have it and it still sounds great. Needed another soundbar so I purchased a SR-B20A. No complaints. Sounds great by itself but I added a Polk PSW 111 subwoofer and it fills a large family room with amazing sound. Crutchfield customer from Cocoa, FL on 3/7/2021
The bass speakers in my 9-yr old Sharp TV crapped out, so I bought this. MUCH better sound! DEEP bass. Crisp highs. A great value. No sub is needed unless you want to move earth at very high levels.

I just needed something to enhance the under-powered sound from our new TV so we could hear it better. I thought I'd need to get a fancy array of speakers and mount them to the wall. But all I did was put this on the stand in front of the TV, and it worked perfectly. Easy to attach to the TV. I wish I'd looked into this sooner.

Satisfied. Great bang for the buck.
Lawrence from MARSHALL, NC on 2/13/2021
I purchased this for my Sony XBR-49X950H television. Connection was simple via HDMI and the sound is significantly better than the TV sound alone. I am completely satisfied with this soundbar. The bass is less than with a dedicated subwoofer but still plenty of bass since I'd rather not shake the walls. This soundbar also provides plenty of volume in my 45x22' room with high ceiling.

Excellent sound upgrade
Crutchfield customer from Hope, RI on 1/12/2021
I was concerned that this bar might not provide the sound improvement I was looking for, being that it's a 'lower end' unit. My concerns were unfounded. My surround sound system is more of a pain to use than it's worth, so I was looking for something that's mindless to use and still gives me the fuller sound I enjoy. I also already have a subwoofer, so wanted something that would take advantage of that and not add another piece of hardware. And I don't need WiFi or any of the smart features of higher end models. The Yamaha SR-B20A checks all those boxes. Once I got it hooked up, the difference in sound was immediate, even without the subwoofer. Voice dialog is crystal clear at very low to very high volumes and anywhere in between, so much so that it is actually clearer than my home theater system. With the sub plugged in, the sound is way more than I ever expected. Setup was quick and easy; just a little bit of fiddling and it's controlled through my cable remote. I am extremely happy with this purchase. Home theater system will be getting boxed up - I don't need it any more.
Pros: Great bang for the buck; awesome sound, especially with a sub; easy setup and operation.
Cons: Doesn't come with a HDMI cable.

Excellent upgrade to tv sound
Ed from Coventry, RI on 1/8/2021
Really pleased with this soundbar. I already have a subwoofer from my soon-to-be-retired home theater system, so I didn't need a soundbar with another sub. The SR-B20A is one of the few with a RCA sub connector, which was a must-have for me. To be honest, I was concerned about how it would sound, being a 'lower-end' model. But as soon as I connected it, even without the sub, the improvement in sound over the tv was immediate. In fact, this bar actually outperforms my home theater system for watching tv shows and movies. Dialog is so much clearer and easy to hear, whether at super low night time levels or cranked way up for noisy movies. HDMI connection to the tv's ARC connection is simple and works flawlessly with my cable remote. Bluetooth connectivity is also simple to set up. If there are any cons, it's that the SR-B20A does not have WiFi or 'smart' features offered in the more expensive units, if that's what you're looking for. I don't need any of the frills and extras, so this one suits my needs perfectly. Overall I couldn't be happier with this purchase.
Pros: Affordable, great sound, subwoofer RCA connector (if you already own a sub), easy setup and operation.
Cons: Can't think of any.

Great Performance for less tnan $200!
Crutchfield customer from Southgate, MI on 12/22/2020
Amazing performance for less than $200! I considered several more expensive options however after discussing with the Crutchfield Team this was the perfect solution for my current needs - to upgrade the soundstage from the existing TV integrated speakers . For anyone looking to spend a few dollars less, the "C" variant was surprising robust as well (SR-C20A).

Solid upgrade
David from Howell, NJ on 12/12/2020
I compared carefully against Yamaha's SR-C20A, and noticed this one is larger and heavier, which told me it'd have bigger sound, and it didn't disappoint, from a low-profile bar. In fact maybe a little too "boomy" sometimes, which is impressive since it doesn't have a dedicated subwoofer (which I did not have room for). Definitely far better than the TV's speaker. I don't love having (yet another) remote but I'm not sure there's ever a good choice with these sound bars unless there's some vendor-specific integration models which I've never found. I took a star off for two reasons: 1) no volume indicator, which not too many models have but I'd like to know it; 2) the "clear voice" setting doesn't seem to make much difference, and sometimes dialogue in some scenes is still low but that may be my environment. Not the cheapest bar I'm sure but a solid upgrade. Be sure to check the dimensions as mine just fits between the feet of my tabletop TV.

We now have much better sound when watching movies. The Clear Voice option enhances the dialogue making conversations somewhat easier to hear. At times, though, it's difficult to discern whether Clear Voice is ON or OFF. For the price it works as expected. Easy set up.

The Yamaha that wished it could but can't.
Crutchfield customer from Pageland, SC on 10/22/2020
Not really impressed. Unit build quality is good but sound isn't as good as I was hoping for. Unit does good on voice improvement for tv but it can not handle any lower frequency. I gave my samsung sound bar to my son and law when I got this unit which is far superior for over all sound. After I received this unit the price came down by twenty dollars. This was an open box unit but I don't believe that there is anything wrong with it other than it is not ready for the big leagues. I will use this unit in the den and just use the surround sound system when I need it.
Pros: Build quality, warranty and good voice improvement for tv.
Cons: Lower frequency Port out the end of the unit with really bad turbulence sounds.

This is a NOT the greatest sound bar. I bought it thinking that a Yamaha would be decent even at this price. Yes, it's louder than the tv speakers but the quality of the sound is worse. It sounds tinny/metallic even at low volume. The bass is mediocre at best. Don't let the "built-in subwoofer" phrase fool you. I'm surprised that Yamaha would sell this. I didn't give it one star because of the price. You get what you pay for.
Pros: super easy to use looks nice
Cons: sounds pretty terrible if you know anything about what decent speakers are supposed to sound like
